The Lentes continue to carry on their well-known family tradition in fine jewelry design, being taught by Melanie’s father, renowned artist Andy Lee Kirk.Constantly striving to combine contemporary elegance with Native American design themes is the driving force that motivates this husband-and-wife team to continually evolve, allowing their designs to actually redefine the art form. Their jewelry design is known for the use of traditional and contemporary materials, such as gold, sterling silver, turquoise, coral, Australian opal, sugilite, and diamonds. Both as collaborators and individuals, the Lentes have amassed an impressive list of top awards and showings at premier venues, including the Santa Fe Indian Market, Eiteljorg Museum, and Heard Museum. Considered by many to be true works of sculptured fine art, their pieces are presented for acquisition in select fine art galleries throughout the United States, including Santa Fe’s premier venue: Legends Santa Fe.The family tradition of creating high-quality, collectible jewelry works was established by Andy Kirk, and extends throughout the family to include Melanie’s uncle Michael Kirk and his family: Cousin Anthony Gatewood, Sister Kimberlee Kirk, and most recently, Michael’s brother Andrew Lente. There are other art mediums constantly explored and expanded on by their family: Metal art by brother Cody Crumbo, and cousin Brandon Jojola, pottery by grandparents, aunts, and Melanie’s mother. The Lentes draw from the rich heritage in Native arts that the entire family shares.Surrounded by their three daughters, Justine, Taylor, and Samantha, inspiration never runs short. Life in their native Isleta Pueblo is ingrained with their Native beliefs and steeped in centuries-old traditions. Participation in pueblo ceremonies remains a priority to their family values. Melanie and Michael share, “Our way of life has been handed down for hundreds of years, and will continue to flourish through the next generation of the Native people.”All precious metals are tested and guaranteed, any Native American jewelry referred to as Silver or Sterling is guaranteed to be a minimum of 90% (coin) silver and possibly higher content.

sz7 14k Ming's of Hawaii White Jadeite ring. Guaranteed Grade A Natural Jadeite, solid 14k gold marked and tested. The last two pics show Ming's Hallmark and 14k mark. 25mm x 15mm face of ring, stone a few mm smaller.

Ming’s opened in 1940’s by Wook Moon and eventually had retail stores not only
in Hawaii but in San Francisco and New York.
Ming’s became popular among folks in the downtown area with a store here in Fort
Street mall. Some of our clients themselves tell us their memories of Mr. Moon
offering no-interest lay-away for modestly paid downtown secretaries and office
workers to afford buying a piece every now and again.

Ming’s became a favorite staple in Hawaiian jewelry as it often featured
beautiful Hawaiian and Asian cultural themes.
They often featured delicately carved "Off White" pieces, as well as sterling
silver brooches, pearl and jade clusters, and gold bangles.
Popular themes includes the Peony, Lotus, Chrysanthemum, and Plum Flowers, the
infamous “Bird in Plum” and others. Some are said to represent the seasons, or
represent the blending of different Asian cultures.

A Native American jewelry piece referred to as "silver" or "ingot" is guaranteed to be at least 90% silver. My thoughts are
with (Hematian’s son) Benny and his family,” Rocha said.

Sarin Bachmann, group vice president of the RX Jewelry Portfolio, said: “We were
so saddened to learn about Effy Hematian’s passing. Effy has been a wonderful
partner to JCK over the years and a force in the industry.

“We appreciated his deep passion for creating beautiful jewelry stemming from
his roots as an engineer. Effy’s legacy will live on with his family, his
namesake business, and the wonderful jewelry creations he inspires.”

On social media, members of the trade—including many Effy Jewelry employees—and
the brand’s customers reacted to news of Hematian’s passing with similar
remembrances, recalling a man who was kind and had a passion and a talent for
design.

Jan Swartz, the group president for Holland America Group, wrote on LinkedIn,
“Mr. Effy Hematian was much more than one of the world’s most brilliant jewelry
designers and visionary entrepreneurs.

“Beyond his professional achievements, he had a kind and generous spirit. Sz7 Alvin Yellowhorse Navajo Sterling channel inlay ring

    1 in stock

Sz7 Alvin Yellowhorse Navajo Sterling channel inlay ringJust a few miles west of Gallup, NM., nestled among the canyons & hills of the small town of Lupton, AZ., lies the quaint, cozy workshop of the young Navajo artist, Alvin Yellowhorse. Alvin learned the silversmithing trade at an early age from his father, Frank Yellowhorse, and later mastered the techniques of cutting the small turquoise & other colorful stones into precise little pieces in which he assembles into intricate designs inspired by his Anasazi ancestors. This technique is called “Channel Inlay”. A style of inlay where all the stones are cut & assembled together first & then ground flush before being highly polished. Alvin is credited for originating another style of inlay called “Corn Row Wave Inlay” in which the stones are individually cut & rounded over before setting them into a silver or gold bracelet, pendant, ring, or link bracelet. Corn Row Wave Inlay is much more time consuming as he has to completely finish each stone one at a time before placing them into the gold or silver setting.Alvin creates each piece one at a time . There are no mass production techniques or assembly lines. His designs, although very contemporary, are enriched by the Zuni, Hopi, & Anasazi influences along with his own Navajo heritage. Alvin also receives inspiration from the ancient petroglyphs found along the canyon walls near his workshop. Alvin is forever amazing the jewelry & art galleries with new designs & techniques.Aside from being featured in several high-end galleries, Alvin was recognized by the Smithsonian Magazine in their August 1999 issue, along with Art Book Arizona Magazine doing a profile on his life. Each year Alvin enters his jewelry into the Santa Fe Indian Market competition & has won several Blue Ribbons..
