His grandparents are from the Around the House Clan and the Bitter Water Clan. This craftsman was guided by his mother early on and continued those traditions into his adult years. He worked as a silversmith for over 35 years, since the mid 1970’s, until his passing in 2014. His mother started him out with buffing the earrings she made. From there she gave him other duties, such as soldering things for her. With this beginning, Ernest started making his own jewelry, and he did not ever look back. He continued those traditions into his adult years. Ernest worked out of his own home, and worked for various traders. Along the way he met many other silver and goldsmiths, and he always enjoyed sharing stories about the metals, turquoises and other materials they use.

Antique Norwegian 830 silver mirrors wedding brooch. Late 19th to early 20th century. 3" tall, 15.6 grams with no issues. Really nice pin. Catches the light as you move around.Traditional wedding pin Norway. Great coat lapel or hat pin here. From the Web: The Power of Silver In rural Norway in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, women, men and children wore some kind of silver jewelry every day. Often that silver was in the form of a brooch or slje. Some styles of slje were specific to a region, others were used across the country. Simple pins were worn daily as the only fastener on a shirt or blouse. On special occasions, Norwegians wore more silver with their bunader, festive folk costumes, such as large brooches, buttons and shoe buckles, and finger rings.Silver showed the wealth and prosperity of a family, and Norwegians also believed it cured sickness in humans and animals, improved crops, and protected against storms and evil spirits. Huldrefolk were perhaps thep rimary reason for wearing silver jewelry. Also known as underworld creatures, huldrefolk tried to strengthen their gene pool by marrying humans and stealing children. Rural Norwegians never knew when or where they would encounter a huldrefolk, so they felt it was important to wear silver jewelry daily. The metal itself was strong, and dangling ornaments added protection by reflecting evil away from the wearer. Each time jewelry was worn in churc hor was handed down to the next generation, it became even more powerful.Rites of passage, especially baptism and marriage, were common times of huldrefolk attack, because humans were vulnerable as they changed status. The time between birth and baptism was particularly dangerous for infants because they were in constant danger of being swapped with huldrefolk babies. Parents often pinned a tiny slje on the baby's clothes until baptism provided more permanent protection. Girls might get their first full-sized slje to protec tthem at confirmation. At the precise moment a woman went from being single to married, she risked being taken to the mountain by huldrefolk. Brides wore the most and the finest jewelry, including several large broches, finger rings and bridal necklaces. Women throughout Norway wore special headdresses. Brides in central Norway wore headdresses decorated with beads and dangles. In western and northern Norway, brides wore metal crowns with hanging decorations shaped ike circles, crosses, leaves and birds. the few crowns that existed in a church parish were often available for rent from the owner, usually a minister or wealthy farmer. The Norwegian immigrants often took their bunader with them to their new homes but rarely used them. The did, however, continue to use their sljer.Norwegian women quickly adopted American clothing but proudly wore a slje at the neck to show their Norwegian heritage. Sljer are no longer used for protection; in fact, most wearers today are not even aware of that function which was so important in the past. Silver is still powerful as a symbol of ethnic ancestry. anderas

Hawkes in Corning, New York, which is in Steuben County, from which the company name was derived. Hawkes was the owner of the largest cut glass firm then operating in Corning. Carder was an Englishman (born September 18, 1863) who had many years' experience designing glass for Stevens and Williams in England. Hawkes purchased the glass blanks for his cutting shop from many sources and eventually wanted to start a factory to make the blanks himself. Hawkes convinced Carder to come to Corning and manage such a factory. Carder, who had been passed over for promotion at Stevens and Williams, consented to do so. tw210

Extremely rare, likely one of the first promotional items from Warner Brothers Records when they first started in 1958, not much later if it is. From the Estate of Tom Middleton (1953-2020) No cracks, chips, or restorations. tw209In 1973, Tom found a catalog of instruments from Warehouse Music Sales in Fort Worth that contained multiple dobros. He sold his two guitars and used the funds to buy his first dobro. After it arrived, his life was never quite the same. If you ever had the pleasure to hear him play, you saw Tom doing what he loved. Before making his way to Arizona to continue his education, Tom worked as a towboat deckhand for the United Maritime Union on the Ohio, Monongahela, and Allegheny Rivers. Tom received a BS in English Literature from Northern Arizona University. During his time in Flagstaff, he was a member of the Mormon Lake Hotshots on the Coconino National Forest. Bill Mack's "All Night Open Road" show from WBAP in Dallas kept him company at the Mormon Lake Guard Station. He became lifelong friends with several of his fellow firefighters and kept in contact with them the rest of his life. But music kept calling, and Tom began working for R.Q. Jones Resophonic Guitar Company in Wanette, Oklahoma. Now he wasn't just playing dobros, he was making them. In fact, he made one for a young dobro player named Jerry Douglas who is now widely regarded as "the" dobro player of our time. The dobro in question now belongs to the Music Instrument Museum in Phoenix. Jerry and Tom became good friends and whenever Jerry toured through Austin in recent years, they would take in some live music together at Ginny's Little Longhorn Saloon among other music venues. In 1978, Tom went to work for Peaches Records and Tapes in Oklahoma City, then The Handleman Company, and finally Pickwick Distribution Company in Dallas. These three jobs showed Tom the buying, selling, and distribution side of the music business. By 1985, Tom was working as a Print Production Manager at The Richards Group, an advertising agency in Dallas. He excelled at print production and would stay with it in Austin at both GSD&M and McGarrah Jessee from which he retired after 24 years shortly before his death.Tom's work in print production should not go unrecognized. There is no doubt that countless times you've seen ads, packaging, and products that he produced – you just didn't know it. He had a wealth of experience and knowledge and was always keen to share what he knew with young producers and creative types. When Tom retired, his coworkers, vendors, suppliers,

  • Antique Lobmeyr Austrian Double Eagle bottle - Estate Fresh Austin

Antique Lobmeyr Austrian Double Eagle bottle

    1 en stock

Antique Lobmeyr Austrian Double Eagle bottle. Great piece likely from the last<br>quarter of the 19th century. 6 7/8" tall x 3 5/8" wide. Measurement doesn't<br>include cork. At one point it likely had a metal mount and cap. They made a ton<br>of flasks with that type of enclosure and this is pretty much better than all of<br>them so it wouldn't be a very difficult task to find a lid. All hand painted,<br>very fine faceting all over. No cracks, chips, rough spots, or other issues,<br>some expected wear to gilding.<br>Unmarked But obviously top end antique bohemian glass of the Moser/Lobmeyr<br>class.<br>b14

  • Vintage Navajo Silver turquoise choker necklace - Estate Fresh Austin

Vintage Navajo Silver turquoise choker necklace

    1 en stock

Vintage Navajo Silver turquoise choker necklace. This measures between 14.25" and 15.5" long with the extension cable. Center pendant with dangle is 2 5/8" tall x 7/8" wide, total weight 62.4 grams. I have no idea if it was originally for a child or a choker. I know it's really fantastic and old with great natural stones. When XRF tested the metal is 85.9% silver, 8.5% copper, 3.6% zinc, and .5% Iron, the other 1.5% is a mixture of gold and other minerals. I don't feel this was a piece made for commercial sale, this was an old piece that somebody likely made for someone important to them.
