I was actually thinking it was an eagle on top until it came to type the title/description...it's whatever you want it to be if it's yours.Wayne Wolf Robe Hunt, a full-blood Acoma Indian (1905-1977). Born on the Acoma Reservation, Wolf Robe was the son of Chief Day Break (Edward Proctor Hunt), Chief of the Delight Makers -- a man instrumental in the improvement of relations between the Acomas and whites. His mother, Morning Star, whose own father was Governor of Acoma seven times, was a potter and weaver. Wolf Robe learned silver-smithing from his older brother on the reservation. Wolf Robe achieved recovnition and fame for his jewelry and art work, winning the prestigious Philbrook Art Center's Grand Award in 1967. In addition, he was a businessman, with his own arts and crafts store in Tulsa, a lecturer, international traveller, author, and translator for the Bureau of American Ethnology. He assited L. A. White in his extensive studies of the Acoma Indians and made recordings for the National Anthropological Archives. Wolf Robe was particularly interested in the preservation of tribal customs, language and culture, and devoted his own time to this and the encouragement of others in similar efforts. Of his work at BAE he said, "My work there as an interpreter is the highlight of my efforts in trying to preseve all of the rich and wholesome lore of my people."* Not only was the preservation of the 'old ways' important to Wolf Robe, but also the representation and dissemination of his culture to whites, in an effort to promote their understanding and appreciation. Child labor laws kept the young man from working as a craftsman, but after World War I he was old enough to be hired as a designer for an important jewelry firm. In 1924 he contracted tuberculosis, and the firm sent him to a sanatorium in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Patania was seduced by the active art colony and healthy climate, and chose to remain in the Southwest even after his health improved. His work reflects both his European training and his exposure to Pueblo and Navajo jewelry.The legacy left by Frank Patania, Sr. came from the integration of two distinctly different traditions-one European, and the other Native American. On the one hand, Frank Sr. drew from a long history of Italian creative spirit, combining technical expertise and artistic imagination. He instilled in his family the Italian commitment to fine craftsmanship, as well as the Italian custom of family corporate bonding.This uniquely Italian tradition can be traced back as far as the Renaissance, and provides a structure in which each member of an artisan family has a job to perform that contributes to the family enterprise. This familial check and balance system has been a powerful asset to the Patania family's continued standard of excellence through the years. But Frank Sr.'s style was drastically transformed when he was introduced to the work of southwest Native American jewelers in the 1920s.His inspiration was multi-faceted; he began to work in a new medium-silver and turquoise-as well as in increased scale, and using new techniques. The successful marriage of these two disparate traditions has become the foundation upon which each generation has maintained the tradition of excellence in craftsmanship and design that has come to be known as the "Patania Thunderbird" style.

Size 9.5, clean<br>ring with no issues. 31 grams.Tommy Jackson was born in Phoenix, Arizona on<br>January20, 1958 but grew up in the heart of Navajo land in Chinle, Arizona. He<br>went to high school in Chinle, the town at the mouth of the legendary Canyon de<br>Chelly—a stronghold for 19th century Navajo, known then as the “Lords of the<br>Land”. Steeped in mythology, this landscape echoes the strength and beauty in<br>the Navajo bedrock of beliefs—foremost of those is responsibility to family and<br>clan. A husband, father, and grandfather, Tommy is also a world-renowned gold<br>and silversmith, his award-winning pieces on exhibit in museums and treasured in<br>collections around the world. As a premier Navajo Silversmith he counted amongst<br>those few known as “The Supersmiths.” Jackson started silversmithing in 1973,<br>learning at the bench of his parents, renowned silversmiths Gene and Martha<br>Jackson. (He is also the nephew of Dan Jackson, another well-known silversmith.)<br>However, it was his mother who urged him to pursue a degree, and he followed her<br>footsteps into education, eventually teaching elementary school at Wide Ruins on<br>the Reservation.
