Alfred Seaweed Kwagiulth Northwest coast sterling silver hand carved cuff bracelet. Solid sterling silver, signed as shown with no issues very clean pre-owned condition. Weight and measurements in pictures. It would be a struggle to find a better example of this artists work. Alfred Seaweed was born May 22, 1949 in Alert Bay, a small fishing village off the northeastern coast of Vancouver Island. This area is representative of the Kwagiulth Nation, a tribe that inhabits mainly the southern region of the province. Alfred takes the Sisiutl (double headed sea serpent), from his mother, and the eagle, from his father, as his family crests. Alfred is a descent from a large family of carvers, so it was only natural that he began carving. In 1978 Alfred apprenticed under Lloyd Wadhams, a prominent Kwagiulth artist also from Alert Bay, who is now deceased. Lloyd taught Alfred the art of jewellery carving, using silver and gold as his mediums. Alfreds style is traditionally Kwagiulth depicting motifs that are common to the Kwagiulth mythology. Alfred is a well-respected artist in the native community as he avidly preserves the carving traditions of his ancestors for future generations.

His silverwork is influenced by traditional old-style silverwork. The Burbank family history in silversmithing goes back many generations. Nelson, a silversmith for over 35 years, was taught by his father and his father before him back to man who lived in the Black Mountain area of Northeastern Arizona. 6 7/8" Bisbee turquoise and coral David K Lister Navajo sterling watch cuff braclet. No issues, watch needs a battery.DAVID K. (D.K.) LISTER (Navajo)The Lister family, with Alice Lister and David Lister at the helm, are one of the most highly regarded families of Navajo jewelry makers working today; their renowned pieces in turquoise and sterling silver represent meticulous traditional methods and both traditional and contemporary designs. Living on the vast Navajo Reservation in northeastern Arizona, David Lister and Alice Lister, both silversmiths, have practiced their artistry together for thirty-five years, passing their craft on to four of their daughters, including their youngest, Davida Lister, who lives and works with them and Dee Nez, who lives across the street and also works alongside her parents in the same workshop. It is land where David’s grandmother once lived and which now houses several homes, workshops, sheds and horses - and from which exquisite jewelry makes its way to eager and discerning collectors. Each Lister creates their own pieces from start to finish, the only collaboration being some pieces which Alice Lister and David Lister create together, and each individual has their own distinctive style: Alice Lister puts a modern twist on traditional ideas and prefers to work with blue-green turquoise while David Lister also likes working with coral and tends to include stamp work; Dee Nez likes lots of color with the oranges of spiny oyster turning up alongside turquoise, blue lapis, green gaspeite or purple sugilite; pieces by Davida Lister are defined by the depth and size of her stones and she enjoys collecting from a wide variety of mines. Silversmiths Alice and David Lister, who helm one of today's most highly regarded families of Navajo jewelers, reflect both tradition and contemporary style in their stunning hand-cast work. Alice often features blue-green Turquoise Mountain stones in her pieces, which draw inspiration from her dreams and from the stones, as well as from modern fashion. Alice notes, "I look through modern fashion magazines and put the turquoise where the diamonds are." David is drawn to coral and stamp work. When they collaborate, David makes his own stamp dies and Alice acts as lapidary. The couple married in 1972 and has been making silver and gold jewelry together since 1975. Their small, tidy workshop on the Navajo reservation in northeastern Arizona hosts both Alice and David, as well as their daughter Dee Nez and, on weekends, her younger sister Clarissa Hale and husband Vernon – all accomplished jewelers. (Andrienna Tapaha and Andee Lister, two other Lister daughters, craft jewelry in Flagstaff.) Alice and David typically work only with galleries in Sedona. All of their silver is hand-cast; all of their stones are of the highest quality, all natural and untreated. From necklaces, cuffs, earrings, buckles and bolo ties, the Lister family sets a high standard in the world of high-end Navajo jewelry. Dan Jackson Navajo rug tufa cast bracelet with Ajax turquoise Fits up to a 6
7/8" wrist including the 1" gap. 117.2 grams.

Dan Jackson (1944-2022) was an award winning Navajo silversmith who is best
known for his meticulous “rug pattern” etchings in silver and gold.

Living true to the culture and traditions of the Navajo way of life, Dan keeps
horses and sheep, but creates silver and gold jewelry that typically
incorporates rug patterns in brilliantly executed overlay designs. With a
variety of finishes – textured, polished, matte, darkened – and meticulous
workmanship, these intricate designs take on a very contemporary, urban allure.

Dan says, “I learned silverwork from my father, who worked with silver until he
was 95. The rug designs on my (jewelry)…come from my mother’s weavings….I
continue the heavy silverwork of my father.” His hallmark signature on his
jewelry is the Hogan, the traditional home of the Navajo—“a gift to the Dine by
First Man. This round structure of earth and wood embodies the framework of
Navajo life: the circular nature of life. All things are alive and composed of
two parts–it is the joining of these two parts which make the whole and thus
create balance and harmony.” Dan brings this notion of balance and tradition to
the meticulous silver of his jewelry.

Dan learned silversmithing from his father, John Nez Begay, who made jewelry for
over 80 years, and lived to be 106 years old. His mother, Bernice Charlie, was a
weaver and is the source of Dan’s inspirations. He tells of his mother visiting
him in a dream, where she stirred him to create his now famous triple overlay
rug design jewelry.

Dan’s formal education is in engineering. He worked for the Bureau of Indian
Affairs for 20 years. After being injured in 1985, Dan needed another way to
support his family (4 daughters). Being an accomplished silversmith, it only
made sense to him to devote his time to making jewelry.

Dan consistently collects awards and accolades at juried art shows, such as
Santa Fe Indian Market. He has won numerous awards and ribbons at Gallup
Inter-Tribal Ceremonial, Window Rock, Arizona Tribal Fair, the New Mexico and
Arizona State Fair and the Shiprock, NM Fair.

All precious metals are tested and guaranteed, any Native American jewelry
referred to as Silver or Sterling is guaranteed to be a minimum of 90% (coin)
silver and possibly higher content. His unique heavy metal work style and
delicate inlay earned him a reputation as a master jeweler.

His work is a combination of strength and delicacy. The most common reaction
when people first pick up a piece of his work is to comment on the weight of the
jewelry. It feels substantial. 6 7/8" Mark Jimenez Apache/ Comanche 14k/sterling cuff heavy cuff bracelet. No issues, weight and measurements in pics. Solid 14k gold center piece in sterling. Mark Jimenez knew at fifteen years old that he was destined to be a silversmith and jewelry designer. He remembers distinctly the first time he felt the metal in his hand and the creativity it inspired in him. "Jewelry," he explains, " is an inanimate object until it is worn and takes on the personality and life of the wearer." Each piece he designs is done with the idea that the piece is meant to bring life - the past, present and the future - to the wearer and he uses that imagery when designing his silver and gold pieces. Born in Santa Fe, New Mexico in 1958, Mark descends from a long history of artists. His mother‘s family are renowned weavers from Chimayo in which the family has weavings on permanent display at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C. and their work dates back to 1732, according to the archives in Santa Fe. Mark‘s father‘s family are Mescalero, Apache and Mexican, are known for thier Native American sculptures in alabaster and wood. The artist has taken the precise detailed work of his mother‘s weavings and blended it with the Native American traditional themes of his father‘s family‘s sculptures to design jewelry that represents the past, present and future, of not only Native Americans, but all of mankind. He explains, "it is mankind - what we all share that is the same that I try to present in my jewelry. I try to create in jewelry the similarities we all share, the past, the present and future." Although most Native American jewelry is silver, Mark combines silver and gold in many of his more contemporary pieces. he is not confined to any one style and allows his art work to reflect, not only the traditions of his Native American roots but allows his creativity to inspire his vision of the future. mark has exhibited in The Heard Museum in Arizona and The Gilcrease Museum in Oklahoma. His jewelry is displayed in galleries in Coronado Island, California, Naples, Florida, Boca Raton, Florida, San Diego, California, Berlin, Massachusetts, Woodbine, New Jeresy, and Soho in New York City. He has won several first place awards in numerous shows and has been featured in Southwest Magazine. Mark is most proud that many celebrities are Mark Jimenez collectors including Oprah Winfrey, Linda Grey, Paul Rodriquez, Brooks and Dunn and several other country and western personalities.

A Native American jewelry piece referred to as "silver" or "ingot" is guaranteed to be at least 90% silver. 6 7/8" William Spratling Sterling Snake Scale link bracelet. Measurements in pics, no significant issues. I believe this version with the open back is less common, not that the other version is common. I have one of each at the time of listing and I'm going to price this one considerably less because it weighs about half as much, not that that's a bad thing for some.Spratling, an architect and artist who taught at Tulane University in New
Orleans, came to Mexico in the late 1920s and settled in the city of Taxco.
Having developed an interest in Mesoamerican archaeology and culture from his
colleagues at Tulane, he traveled to Mexico for several summers lecturing and
exploring. He sought out remote villages in the state of Guerrero, 110 miles
from Mexico City, where in some places Nahuatl, the Aztec language, was spoken.
Spratling collected artifacts and contemporary indigenous crafts. Spratling made
a fortune manufacturing and designing silver, but his true life's work was to
conserve, redeem, and interpret the ancient culture of his adopted country. He
explained for North American audiences the paintings of Mexico's modern masters
and earned distinction as a learned and early collector of pre-Columbian art.
Spratling and his workshop gradually became a visible and culturally attractive
link between a steady stream of notable American visitors and the country they
wanted to see and experience. Spratling had the rare good fortune to witness his
own reputation -- as one of the most admired Americans in Mexico -- assume
legendary status before his death. William Spratling, His Life and Art vividly
reconstructs this richly diverse life whose unique aesthetic legacy is but a
part of its larger cultural achievement of profoundly influencing Americans'
attitudes toward a civilization different from their own.

Used contemporary bracelet in good condition with no issues. Harry Morgan is known for his classic revival style jewelry with its smooth, soft, antique finishes and classic design. He is a fifth-generation silversmith. Born and raised on the Navajo Reservation in Arizona, Harry Morgan began casting jewelry at age seven. His mother Louise inspired him to make jewelry in the old style. The Navajo Tribe offered him a four-year scholarship in engineering, but being a rodeo cowboy was his dream, at the time. He ultimately returned to his passion for silversmithing, and became a silversmith in 1965. He spent most of his life in the Gallup, NM area, and at one point opened a jewelry supply store in Crownpoint, NM. He also operated a smithing studio, and employed many smiths who would also emulate the classic revival style. One of those employed was well-known silversmith Kirk Smith. Many of Harry Morgans stamps were inherited from his parents and uncle, or made by him. Harry Morgan was married to Navajo silversmith Betty Joe, and is the nephew of accomplished silversmiths Charlie Bitsue and Ike Wilson. Brother Henry Morgan is known for his exceptional sandcast pieces. Linda Marble, his sister, was also known for her sandcast pieces. She passed away in 2004. Of his five children, three have taken up silversmithing. Harry Morgan won awards at every major Indian art show, and had an exhibit of his creations at the Heard Museum in 2007, a year before he passed way.
