sale - www.estatefreshaustin.com Estate Fresh Austin sz9.5 Tommy Jackson Navajo sterling and turquoise cobblestone ring
Tommy Jackson Navajo sterling and turquoise cobblestone ring. Size 9.5, clean
ring with no issues. 31 grams.Tommy Jackson was born in Phoenix, Arizona on
January20, 1958 but grew up in the heart of Navajo land in Chinle, Arizona. He
went to high school in Chinle, the town at the mouth of the legendary Canyon de
Chelly—a stronghold for 19th century Navajo, known then as the “Lords of the
Land”. Steeped in mythology, this landscape echoes the strength and beauty in
the Navajo bedrock of beliefs—foremost of those is responsibility to family and
clan. A husband, father, and grandfather, Tommy is also a world-renowned gold
and silversmith, his award-winning pieces on exhibit in museums and treasured in
collections around the world. As a premier Navajo Silversmith he counted amongst
those few known as “The Supersmiths.” Jackson started silversmithing in 1973,
learning at the bench of his parents, renowned silversmiths Gene and Martha
Jackson. (He is also the nephew of Dan Jackson, another well-known silversmith.)
However, it was his mother who urged him to pursue a degree, and he followed her
footsteps into education, eventually teaching elementary school at Wide Ruins on
the Reservation. But jewelry-making called to him in his spare time, in the
after-hours, in the late night, and by 1988 he was winning prestigious awards,
and has continued winning nearly every year since at the big shows, including
Santa Fe Indian Market and the Heard. He was also chosen as Navajo Tribal
representative for the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics.A striking example of
Tommy’s pieces is the motif of Navajo rug designs. He sometimes works these
patterns directly into the gold or silver; or he inlays stones in visually
stunning creations that reflect the complexity of Navajo tapestries. Other
pieces are a declaration of his passion for high-grade American turquoise. These
pieces are all about the great stone. He will use heavy-gauge silver, and in
keeping with the old style tradition then chisel or hand-stamp, all with an eye
of showcasing a great old American turquoise stone such as Bisbee, Morenci,
Lander Blue or Candelaria. He is known for integrating traditional Navajo
designs with a modern flair, working with gold and silver and a variety of
precious and semi-precious stones. He has won numerous awards for his beautiful
and unique jewelry from the Heard Museum Show in Phoenix, Santa Fe Indian Market
and The Museum of Northern Arizona, to name a few including First at Indian
Market, as recently as 2014. He and his wife, Marie, who does much of the
stone-cutting for his pieces, have pieces featured in national publications. Most rings are shown on a a ring sizer in the pictures and the size is typically given at the beginning of the title and description. Size 9 Ring.

He is particularly known for a style of jewelry most
silversmiths shy away from a technique known as ‘cluster and row work’ where
multiple tiny stones are used together to form a delicate, colorful designs in
jewelry. Paul is happy to work with the little stones, even the tiny round
“snake eye” ones and is renowned for how exquisitely aligned the stone clusters
and rows of stones are on his pieces.

Even at his age Paul continues to experiment with new jewelry techniques and
design styles. He especially enjoys working unusual textures created on metals
and will often incorporate a new surface
finish or other design application to see if these changes might enhance the
jewelry’s appearance and appeal. Though his forte has always been more
traditional even vintage looking Navajo style jewelry, his
contemporary designs are also in high demand. Paul Livingston creates beautiful
jewelry using stones that aren’t often found in Native American jewelry. The
intricate ‘saw work designs’ of his pieces are especially difficult to achieve
but so very visually appealing in Paul’s finished work.

sale - www.estatefreshaustin.com Estate Fresh Austin Navajo Ray Tracey Knifewing modernist Sterling Inlaid Earrings
Navajo Ray Tracey Knifewing Modernistic Inlaid Earrings 1.25" wide square. Light scratches, no deep scratches, bends, or damage to stones. The Creative Process Fueled by Inspiration “God blesses everyone with a variety of gifts and talents.” The Creator blessed Ray with the spirit of Creativity. Inspiration is the basis for his creative spirit. Inspiration arrives in many forms and disguises when least expected. Hiking the canyons of the Southwest, where his ancestors did the same, gives Ray a feeling of reverence. Walking in peace with gratitude and thanksgiving opens up the senses to receive ideas. Petroglyphs carved on canyon walls turns into wearable art. Stories from an ancient past are re-lived on the faces of Yei pendants. The evening sky’s transformation of color inspired the Earth and Sky jewelry line. Once while golfing, a white butterfly landed on Ray’s golf bag and accompanied him down the fairway. This incident brought the Butterfly and Dragonfly design concept to reality. Having awareness of this special gift, he aspires to know the origin. Artist Ray Tracey has had a life-long love of jewelry. As a child growing up in Sawmill, AZ, Asa Tracey, his Grandfather, influenced him with his stories of working the goat bellows for his uncle. Asa would pump the goat bellows all day long to fuel the fire in the forge that would melt silver in a small cast iron crucible. This process was very labor intensive and his grandfather hated it. The molten silver would then be poured into a tufa stone mold to form an ingot. The jeweler would then execute his craft and a new piece of jewelry would be created. “I wanted to see finished jewelry and wanted to learn everything I could. Whenever we would go to Gallup, NM, I would visit curio stores to see creations in silver.” Ray spent time viewing jewelry designs at the Gallup Intertribal Indian Ceremonial and at the Navajo Nation Fair. Anywhere, there was jewelry on display; Ray could be seen viewing the works of art. Ray’s family moved to Ganado, AZ when he was six years old. One summer day when he was nine years old, he complained to his mother of how bored he was. The next day his mother enrolled him into summer school and changed his life forever. He went straight to art class and found a silver smithing table in the corner. He remembered his grandfather’s stories and the rest is history. “In class I fabricated my first ring out of silver for my Mother. I found an unknown stone and made a cabochon. I tried to copy an old style ring design that I had seen at Hubbells Trading Post. One teardrop flanked the sides of the stone. It was a very simple design but it took me a week to finish. I kept melting the silver. I made my next silver and stone creation at the age of 21 and gave it to my mother. It was another ring, but this time it was a split shank with three ribs and three tear drops on the side of the stone.” I told my father, I want to make jewelry for the rest of my life.” Ray continued making jewelry while attending Brigham Young University. Studying chemistry and physics by day and making jewelry at night. “The designs were simple, my first love was Old Style Navajo jewelry. Weekends were spent traveling to Gallup, NM, to sell his work. While at BYU another opportunity arose to express his creativity—acting. “I wasn’t a very good student so Hollywood had an instant appeal. My gift of creativity carried over into acting. Acting was just another outlet of creative expression.” His adventurous nature allowed Ray to spend several years as an actor in feature films and television. This acting detour never made him lose interest in jewelry design. Eventually, Ray’s love of jewelry brought him back to New Mexico to permanently pursue this art form. “One time while traveling to Albuquerque from Gallup, I noticed the horizon over Laa Pueblo. I saw steps on a mesa. I incorporated this imagery of tiered steps into a bracelet design.” “Another time, while golfing at Hobble Creek Golf Course, I saw pebbles aligned in a row on the river bottom. Those pebbles became my inspiration to place them on the sides of an inlaid bracelet.” “Sometimes my creativity comes to a screeching halt. When this happens I go to my roots; Old Style jewelry. That is the place of fascination. The Old Ones utilized rudimentary tools to create their simple, yet perfected, pieces of craftsmanship. From this point I am able to create from an inspiring idea. On the flip side, sometimes my mind becomes flooded with more designs than I can remember. Ideas come so quickly I can’t draw them fast enough.” “When I see someone wearing one of my designs, it takes me back to the time when the piece was created. Sometimes I can recall what I was eating or even the music I was listening to. I will remember the inspiration that helped create that design.” Ray has found his path or gift of self-expression that has blessed, enlightened, and influenced his life and others. Awareness of this special gift, fuels his energy and creativity. Inspiration helps to translate his creativity into artistic-visual expression. His creations stand as transitional figures from traditional to contemporary. He creates something good as he is drawn toward untouched fields of yet-to-be-discovered imagery. Unknowingly he is creating a legacy from which generations can learn and grow. Ray has learned to appreciate and embrace the journey of life and its gifts.

I believe the necklace was made by Richard Tsosie also. 37.8 grams total
weight. Both necklace and pendant tested sterling, both amazing quality.

Richard is perhaps best known for his distinctive textured silver designs. His trademark techniqie of granulation was discovered by accident when he noticed silver filings were fusing onto a ring he was soldering. He calls the process which produces this granulated surface texture “reticulation,” and he has been perfecting the technique throughout his career.

Born in 1956, Richard has been a jeweler since the mid 1970s. He learned jewelry making from his brother Boyd and from Kenneth Begay at Navajo Community College in Arizona. He quickly progressed from basic tasks of cutting and polishing stones to the more complex process of inlay.

Richard’s contemporary silver and hold work features the use of fabrication, overlay, and granulation. He is also known for colorful inlay work with a variety of natural stones and for his fine degree of control and attention to detail. His designs are motivated by images of the natural world, particularly the Wide Ruins area of the reservation where he spent a large part of his youth. Richard says of his work, “I am inspired by the colors of the mountains at sunset, the patterns of shadow and light that emerge at dawn, and the pinpoints of starlight against the black night sky.”

His pieces typically contain the symbol for lighting and an arrow pattern. The lightning stands for natural causes, while the arrowhead symbolizes man-made elements. Richard says the design represents the ups and downs of life. “Some things we can’t do anything about and you should try to enjoy life to the fullest.”

Begay Sr. was born and raised in Kayenta - Chilchinbeto,
AZ. In 1975-76, Ernest took a silversmithing class at Monument Valley High
School. “We used copper in the class, but that’s where I got my start. I took
the class because it looked like something fun and easy to do. I used to watch
my brother-in-law, and his father make jewelry, they used to give me scrap
silver to work with,” recalls Ernest.

Ernest’s career in jewelry making didn’t really take off until he entered some
rather distinguished pieces into the Navajo Nation Fair and the Gallup
Intertribal Indian Ceremonial. Here, he received many awards and ribbons, which
helped him begin his career as jewelry artist.

Over the years, Ernest has slowly built a reputation for coral and turquoise
cluster work on heavy gauge silver with deep custom-designed stamp work. Ernest
gets much inspiration from traditional and old jewelry styles. “Concho belts,
squash blossoms, bracelets, necklaces, rings, earrings, and belt buckles, I do
them all in my own signature old style series. This old style jewelry always
caught my eye. I used to go to the Trading Posts just to look at some of the old
pawn on display. The ones that caught my attention were always the pieces that
used the thick silver, and the stamp work on them,” says Ernest. Ernest now
lives in New Mexico with his wife, Readda, and twins Ernest Jr. and Faith Begay. Most rings are shown on a a ring sizer in the pictures and the size is typically given at the beginning of the title and description. Women's Size 8 Ring.
