Ernest Thomas BilagodyNavajo silversmith Ernest Thomas Bilagody (ETB) was born in Tuba City, Arizona to the Red House Big Water Clan and has been immersed in his trade for the better part of his life. His grandparents are from the Around the House Clan and the Bitter Water Clan. This craftsman was guided by his mother early on and continued those traditions into his adult years. He worked as a silversmith for over 35 years, since the mid 1970’s, until his passing in 2014. His mother started him out with buffing the earrings she made. From there she gave him other duties, such as soldering things for her. With this beginning, Ernest started making his own jewelry, and he did not ever look back. He continued those traditions into his adult years. Ernest worked out of his own home, and worked for various traders. Along the way he met many other silver and goldsmiths, and he always enjoyed sharing stories about the metals, turquoises and other materials they use. Geraldine Yazzie Navajo Silver and turquoise cluster concho belt. 59" total length with no holes in 1" leather belt. New old stock condition, never worn, purchased for 6500k about 20 years ago. High grade turquoise, very high quality workmanship. 3" x 2.5" buckle, (10) 2.5" x 2" conchos. 670 grams. Geraldine Yazzie started creating beautiful silver jewelry in the late 80‘s. Learning from her mother, she supports her own family with her well-crafted belts and other forms. She resides on the Navajo reservation in the area of Smith Lake, New Mexico near Crownpoint, New Mexico. Geraldine is a Navajo silversmith in her early 50‘s who has been smithing silver for over thirty years. She is known for her Traditional Revival style jewelry. Geraldine‘s work is sometimes misrepresented as vintage, old pawn because her detailing is so like the work common to the middle of the twentieth century. She is also particularly adept in her manner of oxidizing her silver so that the patina seems to be due simply to age of the piece. In addition, she pays particular attention to using stamps of a bygone era and sometimes adds small nicks to her pieces to make them look as though they‘ve been worn for decades. Marked or unmarked as shown in pics, weight and other measurements in pics. These innovations did not suit his teachers, so from there he moved on to making jewelry. From this point on in his career, Lomay became one of the best jewelers of his time. Lynn Gaylord Sterling Silver Cocker Spaniel Belt buckle. Appears unused, very well cast, 2.5" x 1 5/8", takes up to a 1" belt, 43 grams. This design was inspired by a turn of the century fireplace decoration found in England. Fits a 24mm strap. Lyn Gaylord had been an avid collector of 19th century treasures for many years before she made a career out of her passion. Her fascination with these precious collectibles dates back to a trip she made to Europe with her daughter Jenny, over 25 years ago. The pair roamed the markets of London and Paris falling deeply in love with the history and drama of these magnificent objects of art. This was also the beginning of their yearly trip to the island of Capri and the start of their love affair with all things Italian. When, some years later, Lyn discovered a tobacco box with a particularly charming relief, inspiration struck and the idea for Lyn Gaylord Accessories was born. sterling silver buckleShe learned jewelry design and took courses in subjects as varied as wax carving, granulation, photography, stenciling and painting. To avoid drilling holes in these prize collectibles during the casting process, she made an imprint of the surface and then painstakingly hand- carved the intricate design. With her daughter for a partner, the artist took her wares to market. At their first juried trade show at the Plaza Hotel, the fabled Giorgio boutique in Beverly Hills was quick to lend its support - spurring a loyal following that today extends to hundreds of exclusive specialty stores across the country. Lyn and Jenny still travel abroad several times a year to scour the markets for hidden treasures. With over 250 designs in the repertoire, the Lyn Gaylord collections have expanded to include not just buckles, but cufflinks, hand-blown crystal vanity jars with sterling lids. A glimpse of the artist at work in her Bell Island studio, surrounded by the waters of Long Island Sound and a dizzying array of collectibles, and it's clear this is truly a labor of love.
