He was 84.\u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e“Ishmael’s passing is a loss for us all in the community,” said Sylvia Orozco,\ndirector of Mexic-Arte Museum. “He was a great human being, teacher and artist.\nIshmael was one of the first, if not the first Mexican-American Austinite to\nbecome a professional visual artist.”\u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003eArtist and teacher Ishmael Soto died Feb. 27 at age 84. His 57th\nAnnual Potters Show and Sale took place in December 2016.
