Pharmacien

c1850 Portrait of a Young woman Oil on Canvas in incredible frame. This piece is incredibly vivid more than shown. It was professionally restored in 2004. They are very descriptive about what they did, it doesn't sound like it had any holes or anything significant but it sounds like they did it right and I bet it cost a few grand to do this job as this type of work doesn't come cheap. I'm including the folder I got with the painting. The painting measures 13 3/8" x 15.25" framed with a 10" x 8" canvas.tw194

Dewey Bradford (1896-1985) Austin Texas Landscape c1920's Oil on Canvas Board
Dewey Bradford (1896-1985) Austin Texas Landscape c1920's Oil on Canvas Board.<br>9" x 12" painting in a 14.5" x 17.5" original frame. This painting is about<br>85-100 years old with no significant issues to painting or frame.<br><br>Dewey Bradford was the founder of The Country Store Gallery, Austin, Texas. In<br>1939, Porfirio Salinas began working with Dewey Bradford (1896-1985), one of the<br>great characters of Texas art. Bradford was a second-generation dealer whose<br>family operated the Bradford Paint Company in Austin, where they sold art<br>supplies, framed artwork, restored paintings and hung artists work. Salinas was<br>struggling when he met Bradford, but the older man took the young artist under<br>his wing and began to sell his work reliably, even though the prices that people<br>would pay for a painting were still low due to the lingering effects of the<br>Great Depression.<br><br>Bradford was a born salesman with a gift for storytelling, and truth be told, a<br>bit of embroidery. The relationship between Bradford and Salinas was often<br>rocky, but it was to last the rest of the artists life and give him a modest<br>sense of loyalty and security, things which are all too rare in the art world.<br>While Bradford could be critical of his work, Salinas knew that he had a dealer<br>who encouraged him, believed in him and was not shy about singing his praises to<br>anyone who entered Bradford's store on Guadalupe Street.

Grace Lai (1927-2010) Watercolor Painted of Beijing China Motorola Office while
This piece came from the estate of one of the Head Executives of I think most of<br>Asian Motorola which is headquartered out of Chicago where Grace Lai was from.<br>She was most likely flown to Asia, I believe this is the Beijing Building, for<br>this comission. It measures 23"x 30". It was rolled up at one point so I will<br>likely roll it up for shipping but not too tightly unless the buyer has a major<br>objection to that. NO issues with painting.<br><br>Grace Lai painted downtown Chicago in concrete and steel bloom, for two decades<br>producing vibrant montages of skyline-shaping buildings as they climbed.<br><br>An "on-site" artist who didn't seriously take up painting until nearly 60, Mrs.<br>Lai donned a hard hat and was unafraid to board construction elevators for rides<br>high into the sky to complete her work. In winter she'd wrap herself in plastic<br>garbage bags and substitute rubbing alcohol for water in her paints, so they<br>wouldn't freeze.<br><br>"She just really captured the essence of the dynamic nature of construction,"<br>said Tom Broderick, executive director of the Construction Safety Council in<br>Hillside, which has about 100 of Mrs. Lai's paintings on display. "The craft<br>workers will feel the loss of Grace. She really cared about the industry and the<br>people who worked in it."<br><br>Until her husband, Harry, died in 1985, Mrs. Lai was essentially an artist's<br>assistant. He maintained a studio on Kinzie Street in the building that now<br>houses Harry Caray's restaurant, producing signs that graced everything from<br>theater marquees to train stations.<br><br>He was also a fine artist, and on every wedding anniversary, which fell on<br>Valentine's Day, he gave his wife a painting of a rose.<br><br>Mrs. Lai did prep work and handled the books at her husband's business. While<br>she dabbled in drawing and painting, her husband always told her she needed to<br>learn the artist's trick of perspective and made her promise she'd one day go to<br>art school.<br><br>So when he died, she enrolled at the American Academy of Art in Chicago. Each<br>day she took an uncrowded, early morning bus to her classes so she'd have room<br>for her art materials.<br><br>She got off at LaSalle and Adams streets in front of a construction site. With<br>time to kill, she pulled out a pencil and sketched the action.<br><br>"The developers liked it so much they hired her to develop a documentation of<br>the progression of their buildings," her son said.<br><br>Thus the craft of construction became the primary subject of her art. Working in<br>watercolor or pen and ink, she became a familiar sight at construction projects<br>around town. Laborers stopped by to chat with the gregarious artist, asking if<br>they had been sketched in that day, sometimes buying work that bore their<br>likeness.<br><br>In addition to her work on display at the headquarters of the Construction<br>Safety Council, a longtime patron, Mrs. Lai's paintings are part of the<br>corporate collection at BP (formerly Amoco) and Northwestern Memorial Hospital,<br>her son said.<br><br>The daughter of immigrants from the Chinese region of Canton, the former Grace<br>Lee moved frequently in her youth as her family followed her father's various<br>restaurants. She graduated from Schurz High School in Chicago.<br><br>For many years, she was the Sunday school superintendent at Chinese Christian<br>Union Church in Chinatown.<br><br>She kept painting until only recently, working on projects including the Trump<br>Tower.<br><br>"If I lose myself in painting, that's good," she told the Tribune in 2002, still<br>vibrant as she neared 75.

Dave Sellers Canada Geese at Elkhorn 1991 Painting San Jose California Artist
Dave Sellers Canada Geese at Elkhorn 1991 Painting San Jose California Artist Waterfowl 39.75" x 23.5" framed x 13.5" x 29.5" sight. Incredible guaranteed original painting.Biography of the ArtistDave began his career as a means to fund his college education. His initial focus was wildlife. After attending Humboldt State University in Northern California, he began his career in earnest. Success came early with requests from California Ducks Unlimited and The California Waterfowl Association to be their artist of the year. Dave was also among the youngest artists to be asked to exhibit his work at the internationally recognized “Birds in Art” exhibit at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum. For the first decade of his career, Dave held his focus on wildlife paintings, however, by the mid 1990’s, he turned to landscape painting. Most of his early work in landscape was done outdoors but, over time, he shifted to more refined studio work with his outdoor work done primarily in pencil. This eventually led to his original concept of “Notebook” paintings. He was first inspired to pursue this location focused artistic expression by an exhibit at the Denver Museum of Art displaying the famous notes and sketches by the cowboy artist Charles M. Russell. With Dave’s active life in backpacking and extensive outdoor exploration, carrying small. light weight notebook sized prepared surfaces was the only practical way to express himself in art while on long back country trips.More recently, in 2015, Dave and his wife, Christiane, began working together. Chris took up refined craftsman style wood working and all of Dave’s painting are now framed exclusively in these beautiful, finely crafted hardwood frames. Chris uses only American hardwoods sourced and milled in America. Both Dave and Chris are committed to the highest quality work using American made materials – even Dave’s paints are American made.Dave has enjoyed a quiet, yet long and successful career by pursuing his individual artistic goals. Most of his work is sold in galleries catering to clients who appreciate Dave’s approach to art and his powerful desire to express his interests with authenticity and honesty. He is an expert fly caster and fly tyer and remains very active in backpacking and outdoor travel. He lives with his wife and two dogs on the shores of a beautiful Sierra mountain lake in far Northern California.

Wanting to give a gift to Nixon, then-U.S. Sen. John Tower of Texas commissioned Austin artist Brenda Polsky Morgan Childs to paint a scene from the game, which he then sent to Nixon. The painting was flown to Washington first class, but she flew coach, Childs' friends recall. Large 1920's Muller Frères Cameo Glass Landscape vase
Large 1920's Muller Frères Cameo Glass Landscape vase. 12" tall x 5.25" wide<br>with no cracks, chips, or restorations. tw108<br><br>Cameo glass is a luxury form of glass art produced by cameo glass engraving or<br>etching and carving through fused layers of differently colored glass to produce<br>designs, usually with white opaque glass figures and motifs on a dark-colored<br>background. The technique is first seen in ancient Roman art of about 30 BC,<br>where it was an alternative to the more luxurious engraved gem vessels in cameo<br>style that used naturally layered semi-precious gemstones such as onyx and<br>agate. Glass allowed consistent and predictable colored layers, even for round<br>objects.<br><br>From the mid-19th century there was a revival of cameo glass, suited equally to<br>Neo-Grec taste and the French Art Nouveau practiced by Émile Gallé. Cameo glass<br>is still produced today.<br><br>Muller Frères (Co.) was an esteemed French glassmaking company based in<br>Luneville, France, famous for its Art Nouveau vases, lampshades, and<br>chandeliers, which often incorporate layered and colored glass. Their workshop<br>was established by Henri Muller and his brothers in 1895 after they trained with<br>Émile Gallé—who would retain a grudge against Muller for setting up a rival<br>enterprise. In 1910, the company began making lamps in association with Chapelle<br>and, at its height, employed around 300 workers. Production was stopped in 1933<br>and the factory closed three years later, a victim of the Great Depression.

In 2019 prickly pear Cacti<br>Landscape by Salinas brough $125,000 with the buyers premium at the same David<br>Dike Fine Art.<br><br>The paper on this frame possibly covers the title of this painting, I'm tempted<br>to remove it but I'm going to try my best not to as the old brittle paper does<br>help date the painting and I really like to leave things as I found them. No<br>damage or restorations whatsoever to the painting, thoroughly examined under<br>both natural and UV light.<br><br>Porfirio Salinas (November 6, 1910 – April 18, 1973) was an early Texas<br>landscape painter who is recognized for his depictions of the Texas Hill Country<br>in the springtime. He was one of the first Mexican American artists to become<br>nationally recognized for his paintings. He was described by The New York Times<br>as being United States President Lyndon B. Johnson's favorite painter. Works by<br>Salinas are displayed in the Texas State Capitol, the Texas Governor's Mansion<br>and in a number of museums including the Witte Museum in San Antonio, Texas and<br>the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum.<br><br>Early history<br>Salinas was born on November 6, 1910, near Bastrop, Texas. He came from a family<br>of Mexican American tenant farmers, his father Porfirio G. Salinas and his<br>mother Clara G. Chavez Salinas leaving the farm for San Antonio when Porfirio<br>was a child. Salinas was a precocious talent who drew and painted from the time<br>he was a small boy and received encouragement from his teachers. He had little<br>formal education and left school when he was young in order to work in an art<br>supply store. When he was fifteen he met the English-born landscape artist<br>Robert William Wood (1889–1979) at the store.<br><br>Salinas went to work in Wood's studio in 1925, where he learned the basics of<br>being a professional painter. He stretched Wood's canvasses, and learned to<br>frame paintings, how to mix paints and how to prepare canvas under Wood's<br>supervision. Wood was a very capable businessman, and Salinas learned how to<br>sell and market his art from the English painter. Salinas accompanied Wood and<br>the Spanish-born artist and teacher José Arpa (1858–1952) on sketching trips to<br>the hills and valleys surrounding San Antonio where they painted blooming<br>wildflowers in the spring and the Texas Red Oak in the fall. With his talent and<br>hard work he was soon capable of professional work.<br><br>Professional career<br>Salinas began painting professionally in 1930, when he was twenty years old.[4]<br>His early work was influenced by his mentor Robert Wood's paintings.[5] He<br>painted many scenes of Texas bluebonnets, the state flower, which were sold to<br>tourists by the artists and galleries in San Antonio, Texas. In 1939 he began<br>working with the art dealer Dewey Bradford (1896–1985), who sold paintings,<br>frames and art supplies in the state capital of Austin.<br><br>National recognition<br>While Salinas sold his work steadily, by 1960 he was known primarily to Texas<br>collectors and tourists who visited San Antonio. In 1961, this changed rapidly<br>with the election of his collector Lyndon B. Johnson (1908–1973) to the Vice<br>Presidency of the United States. With his ascension from the United States<br>Senate to being Vice President, Johnson and his wife Lady Bird Johnson<br>(1912–2007) purchased a large French-style chateau from the socialite and<br>heiress Perle Mesta (1889–1975). They decorated the house with French antiques<br>and tapestries that were already in the home, but the foyer was hung with Texas<br>wildflower paintings by Salinas. Lady Bird Johnson was quoted as saying, "I want<br>to see them when I open the door, to remind me of where I come from." At the<br>time of the President Kennedy's assassination, Salinas had completed a scene of<br>a horse drinking titled "Rocky Creek" that was meant to be presented to Kennedy<br>during his ill-fated visit to Dallas. Lyndon Johnson told the Washington press<br>that Porfirio Salinas was "his favorite artist." President Johnson also<br>presented a Salinas painting to President Gustavo Diaz Ordaz of Mexico as an<br>official gift from the United States. The patronage of the President was a<br>tremendous boost to the artist's career and during the 1960s, his work sold<br>briskly for ever higher prices. The Johnsons' Salinas paintings remain in the<br>collection of the LBJ Ranch today. President and Lady Bird Johnson were both<br>advocates and admirers of wildflowers. Lady Bird Johnson will always remain<br>linked to the subject of wildflowers because of her "Beautify America" campaign<br>and the Highway Beautification Act, which was passed by the United States<br>Congress in 1965. As part of that effort, many miles of Texas roadsides were<br>seeded with Texas bluebonnets, Lupinus texensis, the flowers that Salinas is<br>known for painting.<br><br>Death and posthumous reputation<br>Salinas was recognized by the city of his birth, Bastrop, Texas in 1960, when he<br>was fifty years old. He had a solo exhibition at the Witte Museum in San Antonio<br>in 1962. His work was widely published by the New York Graphic Society, which<br>added to his national reputation. In 1967 his work illustrated a book titled<br>Bluebonnets and Cactus that was published in Austin.<br><br>Salinas died on April 18, 1973, after a brief illness. He was memorialized in<br>the City of Austin with Porfirio Salinas Day in 1973. Ruth Goddard wrote a book<br>titled Porfirio Salinas that was published two years after his death. There is a<br>Youth Art Exhibition showcasing work by K-12 students, named after the artist,<br>held each year in Bastrop. In celebration of the centennial of Salinas' birth,<br>the Witte Museum mounted an exhibition titled Porfirio Salinas: Painting South<br>Texas that opened on October 16, 2010, and ran to March 20, 2011.<br><br>Artistic production<br>The professional career of Porfirio Salinas stretched to more than forty years.<br>According to the art historian Jeffrey Morseburg, he is estimated to have<br>painted between two and three thousand works. His work is divided among a number<br>of subjects, but Hill Country landscapes of the Texas bluebonnets predominate.<br>The bluebonnet landscape has remained eternally popular with both collectors of<br>historic Texas paintings and contemporary artists. Salinas also painted many<br>scenes of Texas red oak trees in the autumn and prickly pear cactus. There were<br>also scenes of the Texas desert in the Texas Panhandle and of arid West Texas.<br>Salinas made trips to Mexico and painted rural Mexican villages and the<br>volcanoes that are south of Mexico City. For Mexican American audiences, Salinas<br>painted small scenes of bullfights, cockfights and Mexican fandangos.<br><br>Personal life<br>Salinas married Maria Bonillas, a Mexican woman who worked for the Mexican<br>National Railways, in San Antonio in 1943. They had a single child, Christina<br>Maria Salinas, who was born in 1945. Maria Bonillas Salinas helped manage her<br>husband's career. The Salinas home and studio was located at 2723 Buena Vista<br>Street in San Antonio. It consists of a small stone home with a detached studio.

Myrtle Lillian Stedman (1908-2007) 1931 Houston Texas Watercolor of Southern woman of color Feeding chickens. This is a really great watercolor from 1931 when she was living in Houston Texas and attending the Houston Museum of Fine Arts School. I personally find it extremely refreshing to find a picture from this era depicting a woman of color just "doing her thing" in a non derogatory fashion. 9.25" x 11.5" sight in a 15.5" x 18" frame. No issues with painting or frame. It's behind museum glass. It came with a note that I seem to have lost but it was just a pre-internet explanation of the importance of the artist with notes of when it was reframed behind museum glass. Myrle is more famous for her New Mexico landscapes, I personally find this one very interesting and refreshing. c1980 Bob white Quail Watercolor by Anita Diebel
c1980 Bob white Quail Watercolor by Anita Diebel. Very nice watercolor from the seventies or 80's. 13.75" framed 9.5" sight. No issues or damage. ART has always been part of my life. It is my personal means of expression, of reaching out, of sharing my world and the wonder I find within it. The marvels of nature infuse my work, whether realistic or abstract. I am blessed, now, to live by the sea, where endless horizons meet marvelous sunrises and the sound of the gull, the heron, the crane mingle with the music of wind whistling in the palms. Every turn in my life brings new inspiration. My art is a delightful journey of never ending exploration. I find joy in each experience and delight when the viewer findS Something within my work that reaches out to them. I will never paint all the things that call to me but I shall surely try. Enjoy Anita Diebel is recognized for her sensitive water-media and collage paintings that resonate with layers of color and texture. An intuitive painter, her work evolves from an inner spirit as she responds to the interaction of colors and shapes, line and rhythm. Each painting is the combination of many layers: painted, collaged, obscured, found, hidden, enhanced and melded into the whole as the many events in our lives serve to make us who we are, a combination of that which has gone before, that which we experience and that of which we dream. Diebel's paintings hang in private and corporate collections throughout the US and abroad. Her work has been honored with awards at local, national and international levels. She has attained signature status in Texas Watercolor Society, Southwest Watercolor Society and Western Federation of Watercolor Society. b41

Warren Cullar "Arm Chair Dreams" Acrylic on Canvas Austin Texas Listed Artist
Warren Cullar "Arm Chair Dreams" Acrylic on Canvas Austin Texas Listed Artist<br>12" x 16" with no issues or damage.<br><br>Warren Cullar opened his first art gallery as a senior in college. After<br>receiving a BFA in 1965, he joined a staff of six artists in a commercial ad<br>agency and as he says: “I learned more in that one year than I did in 5 years in<br>college." A bigger job was offered to him and he spent a brief career as an<br>advertising director in a large department store. A move to Mexico to study art<br>at the Instituto Allende in San Miguel de Allende was a major influence. The<br>color of Mexico is evident throughout the art he has produced during his career.<br>With an MFA degree under his belt, he received a teaching contract from Hardin<br>Simmons University in Abilene, Texas and later opened the art department at<br>Western Texas College, completing 8 years of experience as a college art<br>instructor.<br><br><br>After spending the summer of 1976 in Egypt on a study grant that he had received<br>from the college, he made the decision to become a full-time professional<br>artist. He came to the Austin area and opened an art gallery and 5 years later<br>moved into the Austin home he has now occupied for over 30 years.<br><br>Warren started his art career by selling his hand pulled stone lithographs and<br>watercolors. In the December 1978 issue of Southwest Art Magazine, he was<br>featured in an 11-page article about his art. He continued to produce<br>watercolors and enjoyed selling his work in art fairs in Texas, Colorado, and<br>California.<br><br>In 1982 he read a magazine article about the need for an adventure artist and<br>began traveling the world using his skills as an artist on scientific<br>expeditions in Peru, Brazil, Venezuela, Spain, and Easter Island, to name a few<br>of the 49 countries stamped in his passport. Warren travels the world with a<br>sketchbook and watercolors to record his impressions of the various cultures and<br>peoples he encounters.<br><br>In the early 90’s he built an 840 sq. ft. painting studio on the back of his<br>wooded property and took up acrylic painting; then he produced hand-pulled<br>serigraphs and soft ground etchings. One of his collectors asked him to create a<br>sculpture for women who had survived breast cancer. The sculpture was completed<br>and he was captivated by working with clay. That was the first bronze he had<br>created since his student days in Mexico. A large bronze commission was awarded<br>to him and a new direction emerged. Today Warren laughs at the thought that for<br>20 years painting in watercolor was all he ever wanted to do. In 2004 he built a<br>second studio dedicated to sculpture.<br><br>Today, Warren and his wife, Kitty Biel, who has a dual career as an independent<br>CPA , Cruise Planner, and Travel Agent, live and work from their spacious home,<br>two studios and sculpture garden in Austin, Texas. You can find Kitty working in<br>her treetop office on the second floor of their home and Warren creating in the<br>sculpture or painting studio.<br>alt<br><br><br>Warren is an accomplished sculptor and painter, and he extends the opportunity<br>for you to visit, explore his galleries/studios and gardens. You will quickly<br>discover that he simply loves to create and recognizes opportunities to do so in<br>all areas of their space, from the kitchen mosaic on the breakfast room floor to<br>the backsplash in the kitchen made from fish fossils he dug in Wyoming. Warren’s<br>passion for creativity and his seemingly boundless energy keep him constantly<br>moving forward in new directions. In addition to creating new paintings and<br>sculpture, Warren’s goals for the immediate future include finding new<br>opportunities for young artists and he has already coordinated an apprentice<br>program with the local high schools. Warren says “I collect friends who in turn<br>collect my art."<br>tw106

Arthur Bishop Jeffreys (American/Texas, 1892-1970) large Texas landscape paintin
Arthur Bishop Jeffreys (American/Texas, 1892-1970) large Texas landscape painting. 22" x 29" canvas 28" x 35" framed. No damage or notable issues. Nice old painting from the second quarter of the 20th century. Arthur Bishop Jeffreys, 1892-1970, was born in Hillsboro, Texas. He had a mixed career as a painter and newspaper journalist. Starting late to paint in 1923, when in his early thirties, he was employed, 1942 through 1969, by one newspaper, which changed its name three times: the Tyler Morning Telegraph, Tyler Courier-Times, and Courier-Times-Telegraph. He had moved to Tyler, Texas from Dallas in 1936, and for the newspaper worked primarily as a proofreader. However, using the name Arthur Bishop, he also wrote feature articles and shorter columns. As a young man, his destiny lay elsewhere, he was employed by the Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railway Company, apparently in Dallas, where he worked until 1918 as a road master's clerk, secretary to the chief engineer, and secretary to the general manager. Though he briefly studied in New York with Frederick Jarvis, Jeffreys was essentially self-taught.
