• Fred & Elsie Lonconsello Reversible spinner pendant turquoise and coral sterling

Fred & Elsie Lonconsello Reversible spinner pendant turquoise and coral sterling

    1 in stock

Fred & Elsie Lonconsello Reversible spinner pendant turquoise and coral sterling, throwing in free 24" Italian sterling necklace. No issues. All precious metals are tested and guaranteed. A Native American jewelry piece referred to as "silver" or "ingot" is guaranteed to be at least 90% silver. I rarely use the word "sterling" when referring to older Native American silver or really any older silver jewelry as silver contents vary and "sterling" is 92.5% silver. No older jewelry is going to be exactly 92.5% silver, some a little over, some a little under. It wasn't an exact thing with handmade jewelry. I've seen thousands of pieces xrf'd to prove this. Bracelets are photographed on a 6" women's wrist.

    1 in stock

Fred Davis (1880-1961) large sterling and amethyst tulip flower pin 39.8 grams, other measurements in pics.Frederick W. Davis is known among collectors for his work as a jewelry
designer and silversmith based in Mexico City, Mexico. He began designing and
crafting jewelry and decorative objects in the 1920s. The wares he produced
often reflected his affinity for pre-Columbian artifacts. He occasionally
collaborated with Valentín Vidaurreta, another respected Mexican silver
craftsman with roots in Mexico City. Davis is credited as an avid promoter of
other silver artists, including William Spratling, who worked in Mexico from the
1920s through the 1950s. Frederick Davis Jewelry - HistoryDavis moved from the
United States to Mexico in 1910. Working as an assistant manager for the Sonora
News Company, he toured the country on buying trips to stock railway station
shops with native folk art for his employer. He established relationships with
many artisans during his travels, and his knowledge of Mexican crafts grew
extensively. His ardent work resulted in a promotion to manager of Sonora’s arts
and crafts showroom in Mexico City. René d’Harnoncourt, who later served as the
director of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, was employed by Davis in 1927
as an assistant. Their work together led to the company’s distribution and
exhibition of works by Mexican painters who are now well known, such as Diego
Rivera, among many others. During this era, Davis and d’Harnoncourt left an
indelible footprint on the trade of Mexican handcrafts, including silver
jewelry, from that point on. Davis took a position managing antiques and fine
crafts for Sanborn’s department store in 1933 after d’Harnoncourt moved to the
United States. He remained with the store for 20 years, where he continued to
promote Mexican art and artisans while designing and producing silver wares.
Davis died in 1961.

Though there is not significant evidence the practice was be by
Lorenzo Hubbell, owner of Hubbell Trading Post, the beads have become associated
with his name. They were purchased as a less expensive way of producing jewelry.
Since the traders often supplied the Native artists with the materials for
jewelry sold at the trading posts, the traders looked for ways to lower the
costs of producing enough jewelry to meet the market demand. They found one way
through the cottage crafters in areas such as Czechoslovakia.

By the turn of the twentieth century, Czech bead makers were exporting large
quantities of glass beads to a worldwide market. They came in a wide array of
shapes, sizes and colors. Ones imported to the Southwest were shaped and colored
to resemble the turquoise and coral used in Native American jewelry. While their
use may have been only a substitute for the real gems that make up true handmade
jewelry from the Southwest, their import helped families in areas such as
Bohemia make a living during the tumultuous times in Europe.

G.A.R. civil War Veteran GAR Annual Encampment Medals/Watch Fobs 1896, 1904, 1905, 1906, 1914, 1915 Ohio. The 1896 is missing the pin from the back, the rest are in good condition. These are all from the same civil war veteran. I believe the last name was Wayland. The Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) was a fraternal organization composed of veterans of the Union Army (United States Army), Union Navy (U.S. Navy), Marines and the U.S. Revenue Cutter Servicewho served in the American Civil War. Founded in 1866 in Springfield, Illinois, and growing to include hundreds of posts (local community units) across the nation (predominately in the North, but also a few in the South and West), it was dissolved in 1956 at the death of its last member, Albert Woolson (1850–1956) of Duluth, Minnesota. Linking men through their experience of the war, the G.A.R. became among the first organized advocacy groups in American politics, supporting voting rights for black veterans, promoting patriotic education, helping to make Memorial Day a national holiday, lobbying the United States Congress to establish regular veterans' pensions, and supporting Republican political candidates. Its peak membership, at more than 490,000, was in 1890, a high point of various Civil War commemorative and monument dedication ceremonies. It was succeeded by the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War (SUVCW), composed of male descendants of Union Army and Union Navyveterans.

If you would like to chat, that would be great, but lets chat about something that isn't answered in this listing that we put so much effort into already :)

    Gentile Glass Millefiori Paperweight

    1 in stock

Gentile Glass Millefiori Paperweight. Nice large paperweight in mint condition with no scratches or dings. 3.25" tall x 3" wide. The original glass worker in the Gentile family was Peter Gentile, born in Naples, Italy in 1884. He worked in Naples(Italy), Rochester (Pennsylvania), and Morgantown (West Virginia) before building his own factory in Star City (West Virginia) in 1947. His sons, Frankie, John and Joe Gentile helped him make paperweights in the off hours at the Guild Factory in Morgantown. However, most paperweight production since WWII has been associated with Peter, John, or John's wife Gertrude Gentile. Few weights were signed prior to1963. It is believed that Gentile Glass remained in production until 2006. Most, if not all, paperweights produced from 1975 on were signed. For more information, you can read about the Gentiles in the book American Glass Paperweights and Their Makers by Jean Melvin (1967 and 1970). b34
