Welcome to our humble Mom, Pop, and Baby store! Since we are a small operation we do not meet the thresholds to collect sales tax in any state but our own (Texas). If you are visiting after a conversation with me on Etsy or Ebay, the Item(s) you are looking for will be under the exact same title and the search box in the top center works really well. If you are "cold searching" for something I have found that "Less is more" when using the search box. Example: If you are searching for Size 7 rings, the most effective thing to do is type "sz7" in the search box (with no spaces). If you want size 7.25, 7.5, etc. to come up then don't put it in quotes. The same goes for bracelets, if you are looking for 6"(inside circumference) cuff bracelets just enter " 6" cuff" into the search box. From my experience adding more words leave out important search results and bring unrelated search results to the top. Then you have the ability to sort it high to low price, etc. It's tough organizing an inventory this size. We do a lot of business and we are so grateful for that, but for the most part we are high volume/low profit and still can't seem to get ahead enough to afford help. Thank you so much for taking the time to look at my stuff and considering taking some of it off my hands. Also if you have any questions or suggestions I'd love to hear them... Ian

  • Ramon Dalangyawma Hopi Overlay Corn plant pendant sterling

Ramon Dalangyawma Hopi Overlay Corn plant pendant sterling

    1 in stock

Ramon Dalangyawma Hopi Overlay Corn plant pendant sterling. No issues, weight and measurements in pics. Solid sterling. Ramon Dalangyawma Capital letters spelling DALANGYAWMA identify the sterling overlay jewelry produced by Hopi/Navajo silversmith Ramon Dalangyawma. Born Ramon Albert, Jr. at the Grand Canyon Village, January 26, 1954, Ramon was raised by his grandparents, and, aunts in the pueblo at Hotevilla, Arizona. In his formative years, Ramon worked the family five acre farm growing corn, beans and squash. He vividly remembers the time spent checking the plants daily for worms, and the unmistakable aroma of home made piki bread. As an initiated member of the Hopi Kachina Society, responsible for tending his five acre field, hauling the family water (five gallons per bucket, sometimes hauling twobuckets per day), one wonders where he finds time to make jewelry. Ramon moved from the pueblo to study at the IAIA school in Santa Fe for two years, transferring to Phoenix Indian High School high school, where he graduated in 1972. After high school, he enlisted in the Marine Corps. He was promoted from Private to Corporal taking his training at the Communications school in Twenty Nine Palms, California. He says that President Nixon is his “big hero because it was his decision to begin the withdrawal of troops from Viet Nam that kept him from being shipped overseas as a Field Radio Operator. Ramon completed a 12 month tour on Okinawa, in the pacific, and after the military, he worked for a short time with the Bureau of IndianAffairs in Tuba City. Ramon returned to Hotevilla in 1978 and began Silver work at the Hopi Arts and Crafts center. Working in copper, brass, and bronze, he signed his earliest work with stylized initials RA. (Ramon Albert) Many of Ramons works went unsold because they lacked a distinguishable Hopi surname. Like his father before him, Ramon was named after the son of Lorenzo Hubbell, who owned and operated the New Oraibi Trading Post. His grandmother gave Ramon Albert, Jr. the Hopi name Dalangyawma, which he has adopted as his hallmark. Ramon sells most of his jewelry at Indian art and craft fairs. Ramons designs often reflect his Hopi culture. Designs such as clouds, thunderbolts, and rain reflect the importance of weather in an area where there is no irrigation. Clan symbols, such as the bear, spider, and antelope, mixed with prayer feathers, kachinas, Kokopelli and corn are all combined in Ramons work. Ramon dislikes doing the smaller pieces not because of limited space for his hallmark, but because holding and cutting small pieces of silver is difficult and tedious. He prefers to work on larger items.

I have not tested the stone, but it looks like Lavender Jadeite, my stone tester isn‘t accessible due to time/space limitations. This artist typically only used the best materials. Allison "Snowhawk" Lee (1958 - 2022) was an award-winning Navajo artist from Mexican Springs, New Mexico. He was the third oldest of eight (four brothers and three sisters). Allison lived in Albuquerque, New Mexico with his three sons, Wyatt, Kyle and Trent. He enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting, fishing, hiking, and camping with his family. When there was a boom in Native American jewelry in the early seventies, Allisons mother and uncle started making Squash Blossoms. At the young age of 14, Allison was asked by his mother to make a silver ring with a turquoise stone. He made the ring well and so began his interest in jewelry making. Allison graduated from Tohatchi High School, during the summers he worked at various silver shops in the Gallup area, where he perfected the methods of silversmithing from the top silversmiths in the shops. Allison began competing in juried art shows back in 1988 and continued this tradition of competition throughout his life. He received many top awards, such as: Best of Division at the Santa Fe Indian Market, the George C. West Memorial Award for Excellence in Silver Jewelry which he won three years in a row. Allison was asked to join in on making a piece for the millennium sampler concha belt along with twelve renowned Indian Market jewelers. He was very honored to be chosen to participate in this collaboration. The proceeds of this auction benefited the Southwestern Association for Indian Arts (SWAIA). Allison was a highly skilled and respected silversmith, loved throughout the field of Native American jewelry. Sadly, Allison passed away in June of 2022. He will be greatly missed, but his legacy lives on in his sons‘ beautiful jewelry.

  • Carl and Irene Clark Navajo sterling high grade turquoise pendant necklace

Carl and Irene Clark Navajo sterling high grade turquoise pendant necklace

    1 in stock

Carl and Irene Clark Navajo sterling high grade turquoise pendant necklace. 22" long, solid sterling with no damage or significant wear. Weight and measurements in pics. Carl and Irene Clark are well known for their extremely fine quality jewelry. Carl is the great innovator in inlay jewelry. “There was no teaching handed down to us. However, I do have a great-uncle Peshlakai Atsitty, whom was known as one of the first silversmiths, taught by a Mexican blacksmith. We have many cousins and nephews that are silversmiths and painters. I learned all my smithing and inlaying techniques by trial and error without a teacher or predecessor. Once I began to inlay, it took 2 years of progression to perfect my micro-fine inlaying techniques. Early on he was a kachina carver, however a summer job during his college years changed his craft and he started making jewelry. Conceiving a new style, Carl incorporated the styles of the Navajo, Hopi, and Zuni into one. Carl is the founder of the “micro-fine intarsia inlay technique reminiscent of the art deco school of the 1930s. The Clarks did not pattern themselves after any European or American jewelers even though they found out after 5 years of creating their jewelry that there were other micro-fine jewelry artists in the Art nouveau style and Art Deco Era. Carls great innovation involves using micro-inlay to color blend a design into day and night depictions of monument valley, Navajo rugs or rainbow man Yeis. The Rainbow man Yei that is in their inlay, symbolizes “Jewelry of Protection. “Artistically speaking, we use the inlay as a picture and the metal work as a picture frame. The Clarks have developed the “Picture of a micro-fine Rug Design and the Color Blend (from day to night) that creates an authentic technique that makes it hard for “copy cats to duplicate. Since their jewelry takes much longer to make than a common piece of jewelry, the Clarks work together to create beautifully handcrafted jewelry with the utmost precision, care and quality. Carl was self-taught in 1973 and then taught Irene in 1974. They then taught their son, Carl Jr., their art when he was in high school and also Irenes brother Tom (Monk) Baldwin in 1974. A true team, Carl and Irene always work together, handcrafting each piece of beautiful jewelry. They both cut, assemble and inlay the stones and Irene hand fabricates the gold and silver. Irene does much of the design work and Carl does the tufa stone casting. They very often stamp the inside or the back of their jewelry and often incorporate traditional Navajo figures such as the Yei figure. “I learned all my silver-smithing and inlaying techniques by trial and error without a teacher or predecessor. Since there was no category for my type of inlay back then, I then classified it as “micro-fine intarsia. They create masterpieces in gold and silver, using turquoise, coral, sugilite, opal, shells, jet, and other gems and stones. “Micro-fine intarsia inlay is a time consuming and rarely practiced technique in which fine strands of cut stone are laid in pattern and glued together then cut cross-wise in slabs. One bracelet often will require five to six thousand stones. Carl and Irene take pride in their work and it shows in the detail. They feel that it reflects the Navajo tradition because “We use good feelings and make jewelry traditionally with precision and care without rushing. Our jewelry takes much longer to make than common piece of jewelry. Listed in every important reference book on Indian jewelry, the Clarks are accepted as unique masters of micro-mosaic inlay. Some even claim they are the greatest Indian jewelers of all. Each piece they make contains hundreds, if not several thousand, individual tiny pieces of various stones. The fame of their incredibly tiny mosaic inlay pieces is world-wide. They have been awarded practically every prize available for their astonishing jewelry, which adorn many collections and undoubtedly will be displayed in many museums.

Boyd Tsosie Navajo Tufa Cast silver high grade turquoise cobblestone pendant. Both the pendant and necklace made by Boyd Tsosie, necklace 24" long. Pendant marked, vintage piece with no damage or significant wear. Weight and measurements in pics. BOYD TSOSIE (Navajo b. 1954 presert) Boyd Tsosie is a jeweler who draws inspiration from the rich heritage of his Navajo traditions. Born in 1954, he has been making jewelry since he was sixteen years of age. In 1979, Boyd Tsosie was only 23. He was already among the top echelon of Southwestern jewelers / silversmiths (both past and present). Boyd was featured in Arizona Highways along with other greats like Jesse Monongye, his brother Richard Tsosie, Gibson Nez, James Little, and Larry Golsch. These Navajo silversmiths all would go on to build fine reputations and set the standards you see today for Southwest jewelry. Kenneth Begay, a teacher at the Navajo Community College on the Navajo Reservation, inspired Boyd at a young age. Boyd gives credit to Kenneth for teaching him his trade. Kenneth Begay has been deemed the father of modern Navajo jewelry. Before Kenneth Begay, Navajo Indian Jewelry was much like it had been for the past 100 years. Navajo jewelry had a strong Spanish influence. Which is entirely understandable since it was a Mexican silversmith (who learned from the Spanish) that taught the first Navajo to work silver. Boyd considers Kenneth Begay a major influence and carries on today the work of Kenneth Begay. Boyd Tsosie continues to move Navajo jewelry forward and he, like Kenneth Begay, generously shares his knowledge with other silversmiths. Boyd, working with his brother Richard, first gained widespread recognition for his soldered flower and leaf designs. Later, he moved his jewelry designs to a more complex, contemporary look. Over the years Boyd has developed a contemporary style of work primarily in 14K gold combined with turquoise, coral, lapis, and sugilite. Boyd feels that he is creating “tomorrows tradition in Navajo jewelry by being given the rights and prayers by his elders to create his special pieces. He is featured in Navajo Indian Jewelry and Enduring Traditions by Jerry and Lois Jacka and North American Indian Jewelry and Adornment by Lois Dubin. In recent years, Boyd and his son have given back to the Navajo Nation with a nonprofit to give counsel and help to those with substance challenges.

1980‘s Carlos Eagle Navajo sterling turquoise corn row pendant. Weight and measurements in pics. No issues, very substantial piece that I believe was possibly once a belt buckle. "Carlos career as a jeweler began in the 1970s, inspired by his mother, who was an artist of Ottawa/Chippewa descent. He is completely self-taught. Unlike many jewelers, he is both a lapidary and a silversmith, and fabricates all of his jewelry by himself. Nothing is cast or manufactured. He is an Elder in the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians, but also considers himself part of Gods Universal Family. His greatest pride comes from his work with animals and caring for the land. ‘I am doubly blessed. I have been able to pursue my passion for art as a career which has enabled me to live the life I have dreamed of. No one could ask for more‘." He‘s been featured in magazines and has adorned celebrities with his amazing pieces. 32" Large Federico Jimenez sterling turquoise slabs necklace

    Out of stock

32" Large Federico Jimenez sterling turquoise slabs necklace 32" long, weight and measurements in pics. This is a very substantial necklace. Federico Jimenez Federico comes from the tiny village of Tututepec, Mexico. When he was 12 years old he accidentally set fire to a nativity set in his village. His family was pressured into sending him to live in the city of Oaxaca. When he returned to Tututepec in his late teens, Federico and his father were repairing the foundation of their home and uncovered a big pot. Inside was a pre-Columbian Mixtec Indian pectoral (a chest ornament) with strands of gold, turquosie and shell that had been secretly buried by his family. Later when he worked for the Anthropological Museum he learned that the village had once been the kingdom of the Mixtecs and his great-grandfather had probably been their chief. During his years in Oaxaca he developed an appreciation for antiques. After finding the pectoral he became interested in collecting antiques and started going village-to-village searching for more. He started collecting jewelry and Indian costumes. A few years later he met his future wife who was with a group of American anthropologists. She said, "If you love me, you‘ll follow me". So he followed her to Los Angeles where he hit all the big swap meets, buying, selling, trading and building his inventory. He also built up a private collection of Mexican jewelry that he claims is now the world‘s largest as it incorporates pieces from contemporary, colonial and pre-Columbian periods. He organizes exhibitions and acquires items for UCLA‘s Museum of Cultural History and the National Folk Art Museum in Santa Fe. He displays many pieces of his jewelry in the Anthropological Museum in Mexico City. Vidal Aragon Santo Domingo sterling turquoise and coral overlay pendant

    1 in stock

Vidal Aragon Santo Domingo sterling turquoise and coral overlay pendant, weight and measurements in pics. Nice older piece circa mid 20th century. From Santo Domingo Pueblo, Vidal Aragon (1923-2015) translated pueblo life into intricate storyteller jewelry. He became internationally renown for his inventive silver and gold overlay designs. His representations of the elements of nature, animals and pueblo life are symbolic of the Indian way. One symbol refers to “everlasting happiness. Other common motifs are animals and the tracks they make and the blessing and nourishment of corn. An expert craftsman, Aragon drew each story strip with his saw blade and soldered it to a textured oxidized underlayer to illuminate the images. He often incorporated a trademark gold disk to represent the sun or moon. Vidal Aragon learned the overlay technique in the 1930s when he was a student at the Santa Fe Indian School. Before inventing the storyteller jewelry, he experimented with tufa casting and other metalworking techniques. He briefly lived in Scottsdale where he honed his skills as a shop smith. He has fond memories of the time he spent learning ballet as a young man in Phoenix. By the early 1940s, Vidal was already being recognized alongside such prominent smiths as Ambrose Roanhorse and Tom Burnsides for his innovative yet classical designs. Aragon found his true calling though when he began to translate his rich sense of the pueblo way of life into wearable stories, often full of his unique humor.

15" 1940's William Spratling sterling beaded necklace.

    1 in stock

15" 1940‘s William Spratling sterling beaded necklace. Weight and measurements in pics. Who Was William Spratling? William Spratling was born in 1900 in Sonyea, New York. His father was well respected and widely known for his study and writings concerning epilepsy. After the death of both Spratling‘s mother and sister, Wilhelmina, in 1910, Spratling‘s father moved temporarily to his father‘s Alabama home (known as Roamer‘s Roost) with sons William and David as well as older daughter, Lucile. At that time, the three Spratling children became wards of their grandfather. By the end of 1912, the family had moved once more and the children were separated; each went to live with with various aunts and uncles. In 1917 William Spratling attended Auburn University and a year or two later, during his stay at Auburn served as an instructor in architecture. Spratling moved to New Orleans in 1921 where he was an Associate Professor of Architecture at Tulane University. During the following nine years, Spratling published articles in Scribners Magazine, Journal of the A.I.A., Architecture Record, and many other architecture and travel publications. He became an active part of the New Orleans literary colony during those years, and his frequent companions were Natalie Scott, Sherwood Anderson, Oliver La Farge, Frans Blom, John Dos Passos and William Faulkner. Faulkner lived with Spratling for a time, and together they wrote and published Sherwood Anderson and Other Famous Creoles in 1926. 1926 was also when Spratling visited Mexico for the first time. He returned for summers over the next several years, and in 1929, moved to Mexico. Spratling quickly was introduced to and became a welcome participant in the artistic circles of Mexico. His activities in promoting the art of Diego Rivera among New York galleries led to his participation in the first exhibition of Mexican arts held in the United States. The exhibit was funded by the Carnegie Institute and opened at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Spratling assisted in assembling the exhibit and also lent a number of his own pieces. During this same period, Spratling was working on drawings for the expanding Morrow home in Cuernavaca. Many of these drawings were included in the book written by Elizabeth Morrow, Casa Mañana. Dwight Morrow, the US Ambassador to Mexico, suggested to Spratling in 1931 that Taxco had been the site of silver mines for centuries, but Taxco had never been considered a location where jewelry and objects of silver were designed and made. Subsequently, Spratling hired an experienced goldsmith from Iguala who moved to Taxco and created silver jewelry of Spratlings design. Other craftsmen joined Spratling‘s shop and produced tin ware, copper items, textiles and furniture - all designed by Spratling. These earliest designs were based on pre-Columbian motifs as well as simple themes utilizing rope borders, strap designs and other such basic ideas. The enterprise grew far beyond Spratlings expectations! Because he had created an apprentice system of training young silversmiths many new talented artisans had an opportunity to develop their craft. Over time many of these artisans opened shops of their own all with Spratlings support. During the Second World War, U.S. department stores were unable to import merchandise from Europe, and many retail stores purchased luxury goods in Mexico. In order to meet this dramatic increase in demand, Spratling opened his company to private investors, and by the end of 1944 had lost control of his company. Early in 1946, Spratling y Artesanos was out of business. By this time, Spratling had moved to a ranch he had earlier purchased south of Taxco at Taxco-el-Viejo. He never again lived within the town of Taxco. In 1946, he was asked by the U.S. Department of the Interior to develop a plan for development of native crafts in Alaska, and in 1949, a group of 7 young men from Alaska arrived at Spratling‘s ranch at Taxco-el-Viejo and began their training. Spratling had designed and produced 200 models for that effort, but after the men completed their training and returned to Alaska, the program languished primarily due to lack of government funding. The actual benefits of the program (both for Alaskans and for Spratling) were never realized. The time, however, that Spratling spent studying Alaskan native cultures and visiting all parts of Alaska created great impact as seen in Spratling‘s later silver designs. His design ethic in 1949 was dramatically different from those designs of the 1930s until mid 1940. He also used new materials in combination with silver for many of these later designs. Spratling continued to rebuild his business and had silversmiths fabricating his jewelry and object designs at his ranch. His designs were also produced by the Conquistador Company in Mexico City for a couple of years. Spratling published More Human Than Divine in 1960 and his archaeological interests not only continued but by the early 1960s seemed to take precedence over the creation of new silver designs. He donated collections of his pre-Columbian materials to the National University of Mexico and the National Museum of Anthropology in Mexico City. Spratling has been called by many "a Renaissance Man." Throughout Mexico he is acknowledged as "The Father of Mexican Silver." Certainly the town of Taxco and its economy would be vastly different without the initiative and creativity of this man. He complemented its valuable historic past with a new vitality and spirit which recognized the importance of the indigenous culture. The artistic and economic foundation he established continues to flourish today. William Spratling was killed on August 7, 1967 in an automobile accident just outside Taxco.

  • c1940 Early Matl 930 silver cross pendant - Estate Fresh Austin

c1940 Early Matl 930 silver cross pendant

    1 in stock

c1940 Early Matl 930 silver cross pendant. Late 30‘s-early 40‘s. No issues, weight and measurements in pics. Selling pendant and giving necklace free with it. This isn‘t as big or fancy as some of the later crosses, but I believe it‘s rare if not one of a kind and likely made by Poulat herself. Also known by her jewelry studio name MATL, Matilde Poulat was a Mexican silversmith and jewelry designer. Best known for her exquisite and intricate necklaces, Matilde was an exceptional craftsman, fashioning handset pieces that alternate between opulent and ebullient. Poulats career took off when she launched her studio in 1934. Only a decade later she would set the tone for the rest of the industry, inspiring silversmiths in Mexico, California, and beyond to copy her designs. These pieces have come to be synonymous with the name MATL, even when they arent made by Poulat, often being described as Matl-esque. That said, there is only one Matilde Poulat and her pieces are ultimately un-copyable. Starting as a painter, Matilde brought much of her colorful aesthetic to the jewelry making business, coming up with designs that absolutely pop with fresh colors of the American Southwest and Mexico. Matl pieces were extremely popular during Poulats lifetime, and that demand has only increased as the years have gone by. These pieces of jewelry are considered extremely rare and many dont see the open market, making any upcoming Poulat auctions something to watch out for. Matilde Poulat was a Mexican jeweler and silversmith whose pieces were famed for their ornateness and their color. Best known for the work she did with her own studio, MATL, a Poulat necklace shows two things: perfect knowledge of silversmith craftsmanship and a whimsical, fun side to jewelry that to that point hadnt been explored. That whimsy made MATL an extremely popular brand during her lifetime. It was impossible to get a Poulat piece for many years. Utilizing opal, amethysts, and one-of-a-kind pyramidal designs, Poulat was able to create pieces that had never been thought of, let alone created, before by a jewelry maker. Her practice was continued by her nephew, Ricardo Salas, upon her death in 1960.

Natural American turquoise, solid sterling silver from the second quarter of the 20th century. Weight and measurements in pics. Unmarked as typical of this era. ONDELACY, WARREN & DORIS (Zuni, active.1940-1960‘s). Specialized in large Zuni cluster work. Warren was considered a master silversmith along with his wife Doris. Recognizable techniques of silver repousse work often accompanied their designs along with the consistent use of high quality materials. Trader C. G. Wallace, retained many of the Ondelacy‘s pieces for his private collection. All precious metals are tested and guaranteed. A Native American jewelry piece referred to as "silver" or "ingot" is guaranteed to be at least 90% silver. I rarely use the word "sterling" when referring to older Native American silver or really any older silver jewelry as silver contents vary and "sterling" is 92.5% silver. No older jewelry is going to be exactly 92.5% silver, some a little over, some a little under. It wasn‘t an exact thing with handmade jewelry. I‘ve seen thousands of pieces xrf‘d to prove this. Bracelets are photographed on a 6" women‘s wrist.

  • Justin Morris Navajo sterling charoite pendant - Estate Fresh Austin

Justin Morris Navajo sterling charoite pendant

    1 in stock

Justin Morris Navajo sterling charoite pendant. Weight and measurements in pics, no issues. Silversmiths Justin and Irene Morris began making jewelry over 50 years ago. At that particular time in American History many Native Americans were turning to art to bring in extra income to support their families (particularly those without college educations); he got the idea from his Grandpa Bitchittti. Not surprisingly, Grandpa proved to be right. In the mid sixties, Southwestern Indian jewelry started to make its way into mainstream America, finding its way across Sacs of Fifth Avenue Catalogs to featured articles in Arizona Highways. Before Justin decided to take up silver, he was a instructional aide for the Government at Dilcon Boarding School. Morris recalls Grandpa looking out for the livelihood of the family and notes, "the idea (for me to become a silversmith) was all Grandpa‘s...the learning (however) was all self-taught." Over the next few years, Morris began to learn and refine the skilled trait of not only fabricating jewelry from sheets of silver and turquoise but also learned the art of marketing. He managed to establish--over the course of 50 years--a clientele that spanned from as close as Sedona, Arizona to as far away as Frankfort, Germany. Also over the next few years would come Justin and Irene‘s children, Charles, Luskey, Calamity, and Keturah who would also take up silversmithing. Today, the business is a family affair and Justin accredits his success to his children‘s participation in the business and the support of his wife Irene, "(Everyone) They all helped out in the shop, (the children) ever since they were small...working together has brought us closer together." And from the looks of it has kept them together as well. Being in the business for over 50 years hasn‘t however been without its hard times. The Morrises, for business proposes, decided rather than continue to wholesale to retailers to take the business directly to his customers through a market place venue. In the early 90‘s Justin and his family decided to start to explore these markets. The bonus of exploring markets provided the Morrises with the opportunity that they very rarely had--to meet collectors of his jewelry. These markets also allowed the Morris name to take their business to a wider range of customers, enabling them to hone business according to their customer‘s needs. Over the past years Morris has been able to instinctively, wield his business according to seasons and market places which at times--the family unanimously have admitted--have been a hard study. Surprisingly, the heard times, the Morrises admit, are what measure the high points, which for them were building the family business name. And even in the dreariest of times, which Morrises have confessed their share, they comment, "you keep your mind on the Creator, and keep laughter close." The both of which have propelled his business forward in to the unknown. Today they, the Morrises, together, continue to forge into unknowable.
