c1880 Ferdinand Barbedienne, French, 1810-1892 Bronze Plaque Mother and Child. Nice antique bronze plaque guaranteed late 19th century. 14" wide, 8 pounds. Ferdinand Barbedienne (Jan 10, 1810 – Mar 21,1892) was a French metalworker and manufacturer, he was well known as a bronze founder. Born the son of a small farmer from Calvados, Barbedienne started his career as a dealer in wallpaper in Paris. In 1838 he went into partnership with Achille Collas (1795-1859), who had just invented a machine to create miniature bronze replicas of statues. Together they started a business selling miniature antique statues from museums all over Europe, thus democratising art and making it more accessible to households. From 1843 they extended their scope by reproducing the work of living artists and also diversified by making enamelled household objects. The F. Barbedienne foundry was started in Paris in 1838 by Ferdinand Barbedienne and his partner, Achille Collas, who was the inventor of a machine that would mechanically reduce statues. At first they produced bronze reductions of antique sculptures of Greek and Roman origin. Their first contract to produce bronzes modeled by a living artist was made in 1843 when they arranged to produce the works of Francois Rude. They barely survived the revolution and financial collapse of 1848 which caused many artists and foundries to declare bankruptcy. Barbedienne actively pursued contracts with the many sculptors of Paris contracting with David D'Angers, Jean-Baptiste Clesinger, and even producing some casts for Antoine Louis Barye, as well as others. Achille Collas died in 1859 leaving Ferdinand Barbedienne as the sole owner of the foundry which by that time had grown to employ over 300 workers at their workshop in Paris. Barbedienne became President of the Reunion of Bronze Makers in 1865,a post he held until 1885. The outbreak of the Franco-Prussian war in 1870 and the shortage of raw metals caused him to have to stop making sculptures but he did receive a contract from the French government for the production of cannons which kept his foundry open. After the war he resumed his casting of sculptures and put even more effort into signing contracts with various sculptors. Barbedienne purchased 125 casting models from the late Antoine Louis Barye's sale in 1876. He set about casting and selling editions of these sculptures which was very successful, devoting an entire catalogue to these works. Ferdinand Barbedienne died on March 21, 1891 and was mourned by many in the world of sculpture. It was said that he strove to the highest quality in his castings Albert Susse said of him that he was the "pride of the nation" and that that he "carried the splendor of our industry so loftily to all international competitions". The running of the foundry was taken over by Gustave Leblanc, a nephew, and continued the high standards set by Barbedienne. The foundry set up agencies in Germany, Britain, and the United States to market their production. Leblanc actively purchased models and production rights form sculptors including Auguste Rodin and the estates of sculptures including Emmanuel Fremiet. c1925 Royal Doulton Chang over Sung decorated Flambe Signed by Charles Noke<br>(1858 - 1941); Harry Nixon (1886 - 1955). Large, rare, one of a kind and<br>important. 9.75" 24.5cm tall x 6" 15cm wide. No cracks, chips, restorations or<br>wear. Overall crackle glaze from production. This is likely the most fun and<br>interesting piece of pottery I've owned and I've appreciated art pottery the<br>majority of my life. This piece was entirely decorated with the prunus<br>chinoiserie "Sung" decoration (Iridescent branches and flowers) and flambe glaze<br>then they poured this crazy thick Chang glaze on it and just let it run. I feel<br>this is likely a piece from the very beginning of Chang production in 1925 or<br>even before when they were experimenting as it's a most unusual and extremely<br>labor intensive piece, even the bottom seems like a party. In addition to the<br>painted marks and signatures there is also an impressed Doulton and something<br>else that I just couldn't decide what it was. For international shipment it will<br>be sent Fedex so it will be there in less than a week unless you have an<br>objection.<br>B33

1920's Lightolier Pendant Light With Iridescent Uranium Glass Painted Shade<br>Parrots and Geometric Art Deco Designs. It's really amazing to find a light<br>light this intact. It has the Lightolier label inside the brass ring where it's<br>wired to the ceiling. The top iron section is 15.5" The shade is 8.5" tall and<br>the Ornament at the bottom of the shade is 4.5" long. So it will hang about<br>28.5" down from the ceiling. The Globe is about 10.5" wide. It's Iridescent but<br>didn't show well in the pics. There is also some uranium in the glass as it<br>glows green under a blacklight but not as much as full on yellow vaseline glass.<br>Tiny flakes where shade attaches to hardware, no big deal and expected. No large<br>chips, no cracks, extremely rare and super cool. It will be packed with the<br>hardware in one box and the glove in another then tons of padding. There's a<br>little surface rust on the iron but really it's just got character and lots of<br>it.<br>B33

c1850 Texian Campaigne 10.5" Purple Transferware Staffordshire James Beech Historical Texas Battle Scenes Plate made with Texas Revolution Scenes in the 1840's or 50's. No chips or restorations. It does have overall crazing and some stains, it also has a very tight hairline on the upper right that extends almost to the footrim, it is stable and can't be seen from the front without very close examination. The "Texian Campaigne" transferware pattern was introduced about 1837; although made in Staffordshire, it was produced to appeal to Americans. The pattern was designed to commemorate the 1835-1836 revolution fought against Mexico by Texans for their independence (the word 'Texian' is the British form for Texas.) The Texas Revolution (October 2, 1835 – April 21, 1836) was a rebellion of colonists from the United States and Tejanos (Texas Mexicans) in putting up armed resistance to the centralist government of Mexico. While the uprising was part of a larger one, the Mexican Federalist War, that included other provinces opposed to the regime of President Antonio López de Santa Anna, the Mexican government believed the United States had instigated the Texas insurrection with the goal of annexation. The Mexican Congress passed the Tornel Decree, declaring that any foreigners against Mexican troops "will be deemed pirates and dealt with as such, being citizens of no nation presently at war with the Republic and under no recognized flag". Only the province of Texas succeeded in breaking with Mexico, establishing the Republic of Texas, and eventually being annexed by the United States. The revolution began in October 1835, after a decade of political and cultural clashes between the Mexican government and the increasingly large population of American settlers in Texas. The Mexican government had become increasingly centralized and the rights of its citizens had become increasingly curtailed, particularly regarding immigration from the United States. Colonists and Tejanos disagreed on whether the ultimate goal was independence or a return to the Mexican Constitution of 1824. While delegates at the Consultation (provisional government) debated the war's motives, Texians and a flood of volunteers from the United States defeated the small garrisons of Mexican soldiers by mid-December 1835. The Consultation declined to declare independence and installed an interim government, whose in led to political paralysis and a dearth of effective governance in Texas. An ill-conceived proposal to invade Matamoros siphoned much-needed volunteers and provisions from the fledgling Texian Army. In March 1836, a second political convention declared independence and appointed leadership for the new Republic of Texas. Determined to avenge Mexico's honor, Santa Anna vowed to personally retake Texas. His Army of Operations entered Texas in mid-February 1836 and found the Texians completely unprepared. Mexican General José de Urrea led a contingent of troops on the Goliad Campaign up the Texas coast, defeating all Texian troops in his path and executing most of those who surrendered. Santa Anna led a larger force to San Antonio de Béxar (or Béxar), where his troops defeated the Texian garrison in the Battle of the Alamo, killing almost all of the defenders. A newly created Texian army under the command of Sam Houston was constantly on the move, while terrified civilians fled with the army, in a melee known as the Runaway Scrape. On March 31, Houston paused his men at Groce's Landing on the Brazos River, and for the next two weeks, the Texians received rigorous military training. Becoming complacent and underestimating the strength of his foes, Santa Anna further subdivided his troops. On April 21, Houston's army staged a surprise assault on Santa Anna and his vanguard force at the Battle of San Jacinto. The Mexican troops were quickly routed, and vengeful Texians executed many who tried to surrender. Santa Anna was taken hostage; in exchange for his life, he ordered the Mexican army to retreat south of the Rio Grande. Mexico refused to recognize the Republic of Texas, and intermittent conflicts between the two countries continued into the 1840s. Steuben Air Twist Cordial Crystal Stems Set of 8. Selling the set shown with no cracks, chips, restorations, cloudiness, or scratches. 3 7/8" tall x 1 9/16" wide at rim. They are all hand signed Steuben in the center .Steuben Glass is an American art glass manufacturer, founded in the summer of 1903 by Frederick Carder and Thomas G. Hawkes in Corning, New York, which is in Steuben County, from which the company name was derived. Hawkes was the owner of the largest cut glass firm then operating in Corning. Carder was an Englishman (born September 18, 1863) who had many years' experience designing glass for Stevens & Williams in England. Hawkes purchased the glass blanks for his cutting shop from many sources and eventually wanted to start a factory to make the blanks himself. Hawkes convinced Carder to come to Corning and manage such a factory. Carder, who had been passed over for promotion at Stevens and Williams, consented to do so. In 1918, Steuben was acquired by Corning Glass Works and became the Steuben Division. In July 2008, Steuben was sold by Corning Incorporated for an undisclosed price to Schottenstein Stores,[2] which also owns 51% of Retail Ventures, a holding company for DSW, Filene's Basement, and formerly Value City Department Stores; Value City Furniture, which changed its name to American Signature Furniture; 15% of American Eagle Outfitters, retail liquidator SB Capital Group, some 50 shopping centers, and 5 factories producing its shoes, furniture and crystal. On September 15, 2011, Schottenstein announced it was shutting down Steuben's Corning factory and Manhattan store, ending the company's 108-year history. Soon after, Corning Incorporated repurchased the Steuben brand. In early 2014, The Corning Museum of Glass announced that it would work with independent contractors to reproduce Steuben using a new, lead-free formula and their classic leaded crystal. Carder period (1903-1932)[edit] Steuben Glass Works started operation in October 1903. Carder produced blanks for Hawkes and also began producing cut glass himself. Carder's great love was colored glass and had been instrumental in the reintroduction of colored glass while at Stevens and Williams. When Steuben's success at producing blanks for Hawkes became assured, Carder began to experiment with colored glass and continued experiments that were started in England. He soon perfected Gold Aurene which was similar to iridescent art glass that was being produced by Tiffany and others. Gold Aurene was followed by a wide range of colored art glass that eventually was produced in more than 7,000 shapes and 140 colors. These are a pair of handblown Steuben gold Aurene glass candlesticks designed by Frederick Carder for the Steuben Glass Works, ca. 1913. (From a private collection in Manhattan, New York.)Steuben Glass Works continued to produce glass of all sorts until World War I. At that time war time restrictions made it impossible for Steuben to acquire the materials needed to continue manufacture. The company was subsequently sold to Corning Glass Works and became the Steuben Division. Carder continued as Division manager without any real change in the company's operation except that he now had reporting responsibilities to Corning Glass Works' management. Corning's management tried, mostly unsuccessfully, to limit the articles that Steuben made to only the most popular. Production continued until about 1932. In 1932, there was a major change in Steuben management. The nationwide depression had limited the sale of Steuben and there was a lessening of public interest in colored glass. In February 1932, John MacKay was appointed to Carder's position. Carder became Art Director for Corning Glass Works. Steuben then produced primarily colorless art glass. Steuben still produced colored art glass, but mostly to fill special orders. A few new colors were added after Carder transitioned into his new role with Corning Glass Works, but the last known sale for colored art glass by Steuben was in 1943. Houghton period (1933–2012) An example of Steuben Glass design during the Houghton era is the Balustrade Candlestick set, which mimics a classical balustrade. Some pieces, such as the Ram's Head Candy Dish, playfully included clean lines crowned by an ornate design (a ram's head, complete with a ruff) on the lid as an homage to its classic earlier pieces. The company also entered into the field of larger show and presentation pieces celebrating various scenes (such as its cut-away design featuring an Eskimo ice fisherman above the ice, and the fish below, or the Cathedral Window design) and elements that incorporated etchings. In some cases sterling silver or gold plating were used on metal finish elements such as the golden "fly" atop the nose of a rainbow trout. Each piece is signed simply with "Steuben" on the underside of the object. Toward the 1990s, the company also began production of small objects—"hand coolers"—in various animal shapes. Antique Persian Copper Coffee Pot. This is a really early piece, hundreds of<br>years old I think. It was laquered on the exterior and put on display about 60<br>years ago and was an antique then. I like to think I'm an expert in quality and this is a<br>premium quality period art nouveau vase from the early 20th century. The<br>porcelain is heavy and factory ground on the base, the entire piece is hand<br>decorated including the portrait and the gold. This is a really special and over the top<br>piece that required immense skill to make. The bronze frame is heavy so when it<br>is opened it will tip easily when the back leg is fully extended so it will need<br>to be on a not so slick surface if you intent to display it open with the photos<br>showing rather than with the incredible Pietra Dura plaque showing. This is a magnificent glass vase on a metal base. Overall height is<br>approximately 10 3/8 ", the glass vase measures 9 1/2" and is up to 3 1/4" wide.<br>The diameter of the opening is 1 7/8". Pressed white milk glass with a beaded<br>top rim. Multiple embossed designs around the neck and base as well as embossed<br>scroll-like designs down the full length of the sides. Beautifully hand painted<br>on front and back with multiple small blue flowers with yellow centers and long<br>wispy brown stems and leaves. Reddish-brown accents and many white beads. The<br>metal base consists of a silver-colored ring and four attached gold-colored<br>feet. The ring appears to be made of brass with a silver colored paint, the feet<br>seem to consist of a white/grey metal with gold painting. Both ring and feet are<br>quite ornate. Manufactured by the C.F. Monroe Company in Meriden, CT and the<br>bottom of the vase is accordingly marked with the orange Wavecrest mark as used<br>around 1900.
