African carved wood full helmet mask, Mende people, Sierra Leone, worn exclusively by women, particularly by women of the Sande Society, devoted to
initiate women coming into adulthood, the carved coifed hairdo with top knot
over the nicely carved face, the base with tie down holes, approx 15.5"h,
10.5"w, 11"d. Nice patina, came from what looked to me like an honest collection
put together in the 1970's.
