Benny Armijo Navajo sterling silver multi-stone intarsia inlay stamped earrings
Benny Armijo Navajo sterling silver multi-stone intarsia inlay stamped earrings. Large stud earrings with no issues, tested and guaranteed solid sterling silver. Weight and measurements in photos.Benny Armijo (1937-2022). Benny was a renowned master Navajo silversmith who specialized in this complex inlay and "corn row" type cobblestone inlay using high quality stones. His jewelry was featured on the Oprah Winfrey show and was collected by many high-profile artists from James Taylor, Charlie Daniels, to Hank Williams Jr. His pieces can be seen on many album covers of top music groups and are highly collectable today. His incredible sense of humor was as well-known as his jewelry. He was simply the most generous man that one could ever imagine, always helping complete strangers he encountered along the way. He was active from the early 70's until the late 20th century.. His older mark from the 1970's looks like a tadpole and has been misattributed to "Edward Zuni", but I'm 100% sure this is Benny Armijo's work and hallmark, it's been confirmed by his living relatives. Benny was born in Santa Fe, New Mexico Benito M Armijo Jr The older stamp he first used was to represent the letter C and letter M which stood for Chief Marcos. Many years later maybe around 1989 he stamped his jewelry with Benny Armijo. He lived in California for many years and returned to New Mexico and passed away January 2022. He was known for his stone inlay on what he called a Hopi wedding band in which all the stones were inlaid inside the ring or bracelet. Giving the thought that the beauty between the couple is in the eye of the beholder and the couple would choose the different color of stones and their meanings to be inlaid on their wedding bands. Many of his designs are inspired by prehistoric rock art found in the hills and canyons of Southern California.Golsh studied architecture and art at Arizona State University where he met renowned sculptor Ben Goo who encouraged and inspired Golsh. In 1969 he began to work with Paolo Soleri’s Arcosanti project touring major art museums in the U.S. and Canada. It was shortly after that he met Hopi jeweler, Charles Loloma, who Golsh credits, as his inspiration for beginning his world-renowned jewelry designs.Forbes magazine in their article “American Fabergé” said of Golsh and Loloma, “They have attained a whole new aesthetic level, keeping the vital connection with their past, yet transcending it. Their style is now fully international.”Golsh has been the recipient of numerous awards and the subject of many articles. He has received two NEA grants and been featured in the PBS documentary film, “Larry Golsh-American Indian Artist”One of the most accomplished artists of our time, Golsh has defied the boundaries traditionally placed on Native American jewelers. He was the first Native American to study at the Gemological Institute of America and with master jeweler, Pierre Touraine. Golsh often uses diamonds and other precious stones in conjunction with traditional cultural techniques. The result is abstract sculptural pieces that are innovative yet possess a timeless quality. Richard Chavez Kewa sterling silver Black Jade-turquoise-coral necklace/earrings
Richard Chavez Kewa sterling silver Black Jade-turquoise-coral necklace/earrings. Selling the set shown in good condition with measurements in pictures. Both the necklace and earrings are signed. Earrings hand signed by base. For over 50 years Richard Chavez has been at the forefront in changing the perception of what “Indian jewelry” is supposed to be. His appreciation for simplicity and meticulous attention to detail evident in his jewelry-making grew out of his training as an architect. Chavez uses his immense talent as a lapidary artist to inlay distinct forms with irregular cuts of stone and carefully selected color schemes to create his contemporary, chic pieces with an emphasis on purity and balance. From start to finish, each piece of jewelry involves many steps; beginning with sketches, followed by soldering, sanding, cutting, polishing and the lapidary process. Each step is done entirely by Chavez, with the lapidary process being the most intensive. This time-consuming labor of love begins with the purchase of only the best raw materials which Chavez then cuts to become part of his signature designs set into a silver or gold frame. His work has received numerous awards since his first competition in 1976. Yet in 1990, Richard stopped entering juried competitions, feeling he no longer required competitive validation. Instead, he finds the positive reactions and comments from the public and his esteemed clientele to be more gratifying than any award he could receive.

Les Baker Shop southwestern Sterling silver vintage sugilite earrings
Les Baker Shop southwestern Sterling silver vintage sugilite earrings. Great earrings with no issues, tested and guaranteed solid sterling silver, any marks detected, weight, and measurements will be shown in the pictures. Circa third quarter of the 20th century.Les Baker was a well-known southwest jewelry artist who designed and also made jewelry himself. Although he was Anglo he employed many Native American silversmiths throughout the years, most notably Fritson Toledo, the great Navajo artist.Les had a great deal to do with the success of the Stagecoach. We have sold more Les Baker jewelry throughout the years than any other jewelry artist. But beyond that, Les was a great mentor and friend to Susan and Gary, here at the Stagecoach. Back in the late 1970’s Gary called Les about selling his jewelry. Gary and his father, Jim, met Les in Denver and have sold his jewelry ever since. In the early 1980’s, Gary spent a week in Albuquerque while one of Les’ Navajo silversmiths taught Gary the craft. This was one of the turning points at the Stagecoach. We could now size our own sterling silver and gold rings and eventually make our own jewelry right here at the Stagecoach. This was and is a huge advantage in selling jewelry as our knowledge of the craft went up exponentially. And for all this, Les asked nothing in return.Les was born in 1935 and when he was older joined the Navy. After the Korean War he headed back to New Mexico and became interested in American Indian jewelry. His wife at the time (ex-wife now) wanted a Navajo squash blossom necklace but Les couldn’t afford it. He was always resourceful and since Les didn’t have the money to purchase the squash blossom he figured he would try making one himself. It turned out so nice that when Les’ wife was at a party with Edith Maisel, the “Queen of Indian Jewelry” was so impressed that she offered Les a job. Maisel helped popularize “Indian Jewelry” and though it wasn’t actually handmade, Maisels’ offered many Native Americans a job and increased the awareness of this art form. This was Les’ big break and he later also learned from the great Native American artist Carl Louthey.Eventually Les opened his own shop and was at the right time and the right place when the great “Indian Jewelry” boom in the 1970’s hit. Everybody wanted this turquoise Indian jewelry, from celebrities to the common man and woman. Les teamed up for a while with Bing Crosby (not the singer but the Indian Trader) and at one time had around 50 Native Americans working for him.

In 1975, Rebecca took a silversmithing class, where she discovered her passion for creating wearable works of art. Before she designed jewelry, she was an artist, and her paintings are now highly collectible.Rebecca Collins travels the world in search of materials for her jewelry, buying gemstones and antiquities from thousands of sources. Rebecca's designs are each singular and unique: as in nature, no two items are ever exactly alike. When she started designing jewelry, she discovered her fascination with connections between unrelated objects, which lies at the heart of her distinctive designs. Fans admire her artistic combination of contrasting materials such as faceted aquamarine with fossils, jade with vegetable ivory, or two-thousand year old Roman glass....... her "quirky" combinations create her signature look. Her favorite artists for inspiration are Gustav Klimt and Henri Matisse. The back of all of Rebecca's pieces are stamped with spiritual messages in order to create a "talisman", which by definition, is something "imbued with magic by its maker".

Oscar Betz southwestern sterling silver turquoise, spiny oyster, lapis earrings. Great earrings with no issues, tested and guaranteed solid sterling silver, any marks detected, weight, and measurements will be shown in the pictures. Circa last quarter of the 20th century. Oscar Betz moved to Jerome, Arizona sometime between 1967 and 1979. He was among the many hippies, renegades, freethinkers, and artists who relocated to Arizona’s richest copper mining city during those years. Many of his later years were spent in anta Fe, New Mexico. He is now recognized as a renowned silversmith. His work has been featured in galleries and movies, and also worn by many celebrities. His work is highly collectible. Oscar Betz‘s work was most prominent in the 1970‘s and 1980‘s. His pieces were actively sought out and purchased by Hollywood celebrities as well as collectors of fine one-of-a-kind handmade Indian jewelry. He was one of the first southwest artists to use many different stones together in one piece of jewelry. Oscar‘s work remains in high demand today.Sought after by the likes of Ralph Lauren in the early 90‘s Oscar crossed over into the fashion world with his remarkable jewelry. Part of the popularity of the Betz earrings was that for their size they are well balanced and easy to wear. Designs are set on 2 part silver frames that are hinged. Betz’s pieces include earrings, pendants, and pins in sterling silver and turquoise. He is most well-known for a collaborative design he created with Rocki Gorman and made a place for himself in Southwestern culture with his highly sought after chandelier earrings. These are typically sterling silver, set with turquoise, spiny oyster, variscite, amethyst, and agate. Other earring designs of this type incorporate a variety of stones that include coral and black onyx and frequently using rare and other high end stones. Rocki Gorman continues the Betz tradition with her jewelry. Among his other notable creations are Navajo Sterling Silver cuff bracelets that have a three-dimensional design with excellent engraving. Oscar Getz is now retired. His son, L’Mont Betz, who learned the jewelry business from his father, has been running his own shop called, ‘Broken Wing Designs’ since 1983 where he sells designs created by Oscar and keeps the family tradition alive.

Vintage Leo Feeney for Don Lucas multi-Gemstone/opal earrings. Great earrings with no issues, tested and guaranteed solid sterling silver, any marks detected, weight, and measurements will be shown in the pictures. Circa last quarter of the 20th century. Rubber replacement backs as shown. Leo Feeney 1948-2025) Leo Feeney has been designing his southwest style jewelry for more than thirty-five years. He was first introduced to southwest style jewelry in Flagstaff, Arizona. The jewelry of the Zuni Pueblo had a great influence on his style. He uses a mixture of semi-precious and precious stones to create his one of a kind artistic jewelry. The son of a Navy career father, Leo Feeney moved around the United States frequently–from Key West, Florida as a child, to Emmaus, Pennsylvania for high school graduation. After attending a local community college, a silversmith professor took a strong interest in Leo’s work and an apprenticeship was born. Over the years, Leo learned numerous silversmith techniques and began to hone his craft with contemporary jewelry styles. In 1971, while visiting Havasupai in the Grand Canyon, Leo met his now wife, Emily, and relocated to her home town in Flagstaff, Arizona. This move inspired him to study different jewelry styles including the rich history of Native American design. It wasn’t long before he opened a store in a building owned by his father-in-law and began selling his unique Southwestern style jewelry. Greatly influenced by Zuni designs, Leo mixes precious and semi-precious stones to create his unique pieces. His signature cluster-style settings featuring intricate stone patterning is highly regarded in the jewelry community. Leo currently resides in Arizona with his family.
