Begay comes from the Navajo tribe, and has specialized in handmade Native American jewelry since the early 1970s. His silversmithing style is curated through ingot silver that has been mined from mountains and caves from across the country. The talented proceedings using ingot silver is endeavoring work; that specializes in melting the silver to a desired shape, to curate the designs, with the ending result of a heavy solidified piece of jewelry. Dina uses only the best stones and does extremely high quality work. This ring is in clean pre-owned condition and retailed for about twice what I‘m asking for it. Wichita jewelry designer Dina Huntinghorse incorporates a blend of traditional and contemporary jewelry techniques to create masterful works of wearable art. Although gold and silver work is rarely seen among the tribes of the Great Plains, Dina‘s life experiences introduced her to the craft, and inspired her to develop her own unique style. Raised in southwestern Oklahoma, Dina‘s first love was of horses, and she learned to reproduce their likeness in pencil sketches and paintings. She was later taught the traditional art of beadwork by an aunt, and became known for her beaded deerskin purses. In 1989, her interest in jewelry was piqued when her late husband, Navajo jeweler Herbert Taylor, taught her to cut beads and do inlay work. Dina began making jewelry on her own in 1996. Her work is featured in galleries throughout the southwest, and she is a regular participant at the Heard Museum Market and the Santa Fe Indian Market. Along with her respect for the horse, Dina is also known for her affection for the wolf. Through many of her designs, Dina honors her tribal teachings of the wolf‘s legendary hunting abilities and their human-like regard for the family (pack).

Nice ring from the third quarter of the 20th century. size 11.5 ring Jerry Roan (1919-1977) Navajo tribal native Jerry Roan (1919-1977) had a productive life as a silversmith and jewelry maker. He began actively working at silversmithing around 1968. In 1969, a year after he began smithing, he on a 1st Award at the Navajo Tribal Fair in Arizona. Roan was included in the 2002 exhibit “Jewels of the Southwest” at the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture, Santa Fe. His work is included in the collections of the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian, Washington, and the Yellowhorse Museum in Paradise Valley, Arizona.

High quality ring with no issues. Nelson Garcia was born October sixth, 1955 in the village of Santo Domingo Pueblo, New Mexico. He was raised in a large family made up of four brothers and four sisters. One of the eldest, he matured early and with a good heart, shared in the responsibilities of his youth. From working in the fields with his brothers or watching the trade of his father, the seeds of perfection were sown. His father, Joe Jay Garcia, was a silversmith with talents in traditional designs and Heishi necklaces. From studying his fathers workmanship more than a talent was formed. Nelson learned that any job can be completed but if not done correctly, it is a pointless task. In his grade school years he created his first works. Buying silver from his uncle, he would make silver cones that are used as the ending tips to a Heishi necklace. Once completed, he would walk throughout the village selling his silver cones to the many artists. Who knew that these elements would lay foundations to greater achievements in the years to come. After high school Nelson said farewell to the comforts of home and in 1974 moved to Phoenix, Arizona. In school and full of optimism, he would begin the next chapter to his life. He started working in a local jewelry store as a silversmith. Once again studying his surroundings, this experience would give him the momentum to go into business for himself. As time passed, like every man he would find his happiness. In 1975 he married his wife Helen, a Navajo from the Naakaii Dinee clan. A year later his first child was born, a daughter whom they would name Coreen. To any business the early years define character and will. In 1983 with a newborn son, AAron, he decided to go into business for himself. With his creations packed and loaded into his car he drove to Page, Arizona for his first Art show. That Saturday he would make his first sale as an independent artist. Sadly, that would be his only sale for that day. One ring, in which he had to debate the price, but was finally sold. With a fresh fourteen dollars in hand, one would think dread would set in. Showing resilience he drove the next day to the Coconino center in Flagstaff, Arizona. This bold step would define his business ethic. He would attend this next art show with high hopes and patient hands. Driving home later that night with four-hundred eighty dollars in his pocket, his American dream had become a reality. As the years have passed, Nelson has won many distinguished awards at some of the nations largest art exhibits. From the Santa Fe Indian Market to Red Earth in Oklahoma city. His jewelry has traveled into the heart of Europe with shows in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. He has formed relationships of trust with his many customers in the western world. Assured perfection in his work is what should be expected. Only selecting the finest stones and designing the most careful expressions. He lives a life of success in Phoenix to this day with his wife and family.

sz11.5 Norbert Peshlakai Navajo sterling silver petroglyph modernist ring. Tested and guaranteed solid sterling silver. Nice ring with minimal wear. Norbert Peshlakai was born on May 6, 1953, into the Black Sheep clan of the Dine people. Growing up in Crystal, New Mexico, with nine brothers and sisters, his mother is an accomplished weaver and all of his sisters and one brother followed in her footsteps. Norbert began discovering his artistic abilities as a painter in high school, starting with landscapes and abstract portraiture. He enrolled in painting classes at the University of Kansas intending to pursue a career in art. On a whim he decided to take a single jewelry making class, but after making mistakes on his first few class assignments he began to think, “making jewelry must not be my thing.” He started skipping classes, until one day he ran into his teacher on campus. His teacher told him he was failing due to his absences and in order to pass he needed to present his sketchbook, identify 65 necessary tools, and make six pieces of jewelry. Norbert made more than six pieces of jewelry, and passed the examination with ease. As the teacher was photographing all of his students’ end of semester work in class, he motioned for Peshlakai to come over and take a look into the camera. When Norbert saw his jewelry through the lens of the camera something struck him, he reminisced, “I saw my work for the first time.” Norbert continued through college attempting both painting and jewelry, but it was not long before jewelry took over as his passion. The artist sees his jewelry as a combination of painting and sculpture, and credits the sculptural work of John Boomer’s abstract wooden forms as an inspiration for him throughout his career. Norbert makes his own unique stamps from concrete nails to create imaginative, energetic patterns on his spirited shapes and has developed his own style of textures and overlays he is now known for. In the late 1970’s he began making intricately ornamented silver pots, something he was introduced to in college and continues to experiment with today. His work is identified with a hallmark he created in the very beginning of his career consisting of a circle, dot, and v stamp forming the shape of an eye, symbolizing ‘vision.’ Norbert continues to make jewelry and silver pots from his home in Gallup, New Mexico, breathing life into his creative, one-of-a-kind pieces.
