Dave Sellers Canada Geese at Elkhorn 1991 Painting San Jose California Artist Waterfowl 39.75" x 23.5" framed x 13.5" x 29.5" sight. Incredible guaranteed original painting.Biography of the ArtistDave began his career as a means to fund his college education. His initial focus was wildlife. After attending Humboldt State University in Northern California, he began his career in earnest. Success came early with requests from California Ducks Unlimited and The California Waterfowl Association to be their artist of the year. Dave was also among the youngest artists to be asked to exhibit his work at the internationally recognized “Birds in Art” exhibit at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum. For the first decade of his career, Dave held his focus on wildlife paintings, however, by the mid 1990’s, he turned to landscape painting. Most of his early work in landscape was done outdoors but, over time, he shifted to more refined studio work with his outdoor work done primarily in pencil. This eventually led to his original concept of “Notebook” paintings. He was first inspired to pursue this location focused artistic expression by an exhibit at the Denver Museum of Art displaying the famous notes and sketches by the cowboy artist Charles M. Russell. With Dave’s active life in backpacking and extensive outdoor exploration, carrying small. light weight notebook sized prepared surfaces was the only practical way to express himself in art while on long back country trips.More recently, in 2015, Dave and his wife, Christiane, began working together. Chris took up refined craftsman style wood working and all of Dave’s painting are now framed exclusively in these beautiful, finely crafted hardwood frames. Chris uses only American hardwoods sourced and milled in America. Both Dave and Chris are committed to the highest quality work using American made materials – even Dave’s paints are American made.Dave has enjoyed a quiet, yet long and successful career by pursuing his individual artistic goals. Most of his work is sold in galleries catering to clients who appreciate Dave’s approach to art and his powerful desire to express his interests with authenticity and honesty. He is an expert fly caster and fly tyer and remains very active in backpacking and outdoor travel. He lives with his wife and two dogs on the shores of a beautiful Sierra mountain lake in far Northern California.

  • Davey Morgan Navajo Sterling turquoise cluster pendant

Davey Morgan Navajo Sterling turquoise cluster pendant

    1 in stock

Davey Morgan Navajo Sterling turquoise cluster pendantAll precious metals are tested and guaranteed. A Native American jewelry piece referred to as "silver" or "ingot" is guaranteed to be at least 90% silver. I rarely use the word "sterling" when referring to older Native American silver or really any older silver jewelry as silver contents vary and "sterling" is 92.5% silver. No older jewelry is going to be exactly 92.5% silver, some a little over, some a little under. It wasn't an exact thing with handmade jewelry. I've seen thousands of pieces xrf'd to prove this. Bracelets are photographed on a 6" women's wrist.

    David Lotton Art Glass Birdhouse

David Lotton Art Glass Birdhouse. 10.25" tall x 4.25" wide, unused with paperwork and take, signature shown in last pic. No cracks or chips but roughness in inner rim of factory ground base, likely always been like that.DAVID LOTTON David Lotton is a second generation American glassblower. He is the oldest son of Charles Lotton and was introduced to the world of glassblowing at a very young age. In 1970, Charles started building a furnace and began blowing pieces of glass from melted down pop bottles in a shed behind their house. David was there in this infancy and he was Charles first assistant at the age of ten. David has vivid memories of his childhood working in the shop with his father. When most children were playing childhood games he was spending time after school and on the weekends helping him at the bench. By the age of 14 he started learning how to do finishing work, polishing the bottom of the glass flat. David eventually followed in his fathers' footsteps and by the age of 15 began making paperweights. That ignited a passion to begin glass blowing.David has been creating his one of a kind vessels since 1978. His unique handcrafted works are designed with precise attention to detail. Developing his own glass formulas, David has created a complex palette of colors, giving him the ability to create his multi-layering and sculpting style. Each year David continues to study and refine the techniques he uses in creating his art.David's Clematis Reflection Series, Hollyhock Paperweight Series and Mixed Bouquets Series all reflect his floral patterns which capture his love for detail. He combines color and layering to create depth and beauty. His Organic Sculptures reflect movement and rich hues of a summer sunset. David is inspired by all nature. He has a successful ranch in the hills of Kentucky where he is inspired to evolve, change, and grow continually. He commutes back and forth to fulfill both loves.

No damage, very special limited production item with no damage. 2.75" tall David Salazar has been a glassblower and designer for over 50 years. He began in 1972 at Lundberg Studios in Davenport, California. Using new techniques to decorate glass, he eventually became their chief designer. Some of his pieces during this period were exhibited at the Corning Museum of Glass. It was during this time that he became associated with Larry Selman, one of the foremost paperweight dealers in the world. David’s work has been featured in many of Selman’s catalogues, as well as books for the paperweight collector. David also exhibited pieces at the Tiffany Exhibit for the Museum of Art in Chicago. In 1981, David left Lundberg’s to form his own studio. David’s work in miniatures led to doing marbles in flower and sea life patterns, as well as traditional swirls. His Angelfish marble was featured in the April 1988 issue of the Smithsonian Magazine. Today, his marbles are some of his most popular items, and he carries over 30 different kinds. His work is featured in many periodicals and reference books, including Marilyn Barrett’s book, Immies, Aggies, Shooters and Swirls, The Art of the Paperweight by L.H. • Dennis & Nancy Edaakie Zuni Cardinal inlaid sterling earrings

Dennis & Nancy Edaakie Zuni Cardinal inlaid sterling earrings

    1 in stock

Dennis & Nancy Edaakie Zuni Cardinal inlaid sterling earrings 2.25" long with hooks x 5/8" wide. 13.5 grams total.Dennis and Nancy Edaakie started making jewelry in 1965 and have become known for finely detailed bird imagery on pieces made in the overlay inlay technique. Dennis’s father, Merle Edaakie, did stonework for trader C. G. Wallace. In 1970, at the urging of traders Ruth and Leon Ingram, Dennis and Nancy first produced inlay jewelry bearing images of birds. Overlay inlay is similar to Hopi overlay. In both methods, one piece of silver with a cut-out pattern is overlaid on another piece of the same size and shape. In the Hopi technique the bottom layer is darkened so that the cut-out areas contrast with the polished silver of the top layer. In the Zuni overlay inlay technique, mosaic stonework fills the blanks, forming a brilliantly colored counterpoint to the monochromatic silver. Beginning in the late 1970s, Dennis and Nancy further innovated on the overlay technique through the use of gold, as opposed to silver.Dennis has been given credit for development of the spinner pendant, another design he developed at the urging of the Ingrams. This form of pendant can be reversed while remaining on the wearer’s neck. Dennis first produced flat spinner pendants, but he now also makes a domed version.Nancy started out doing some of the inlay details on Dennis’s work and now does all of the inlay. Dennis has always done the silverwork on their pieces. They originally used a parrot beak stamp as their hallmark, since Dennis is of the parrot clan. Later, they used DENNIS E., and, subsequent to that, DENNIS AND NANCY EDAAKIE. Dennis and Nancy Edaakie’s sons, Myron, Sanford, Derrick and Dale, also make overlay inlay jewelry.Unfortunately, Dennis passed away in early 2008.Their sterling silver and genuine gemstone inlay bird pins and pendants are some of the most sought after pieces in Native American Indian jewelry. Much of their jewelry is made from sterling silver, turquoise, jet, mother of pearl, abalone, and coral. The Edaakie’s pieces are well known as being excellently hand-crafted; from their silver and gold technique to their impeccable inlay. They have passed the torch to their sons, who are trying to carry on their parents traditions. Dennis passed away close to Memorial Day of 2008, and Nancy is no longer producing jewelry. Their work will truly be appreciated by the world over for years to come! All precious metals are tested and guaranteed, any Native American jewelry referred to as Silver or Sterling is guaranteed to be a minimum of 90% (coin) silver and possibly higher content. Denys Puech (1854-1942) French Bronze Dore Statue of Boy with Fish

    1 in stock

Denys Pierre Puech, French, (1854-1942), marked in the cast Barbedienne Fondeur, circa 1880's-1890's a very uncommon bronze by an important French Sculptor in very good condition. 16.25"h, 8.5" wide x 26.75lbs From a family of farmers (his brother was Louis Puech, Député for the Seine Department from 1898 to 1932, and Minister of Public Works from 3 November 1910 to 27 February 1911), he began as an apprentice in the marble workshop of François Mahoux in Rodez. In 1872, after two years training, he pursued an apprenticeship in Paris in the workshop of François Jouffroy then of Alexandre Falguière and Henri Chapu, at the same time following an evening course at the Beaux-Arts. 1881 and 1883 saw his first successes, when he twice won the second prize in the prix de Rome contest, for his Tyrtaeus singing the Messanians (Tyrtée chantant les Messéniennes) and Diagoras dying for joy on learning of his two victorious children's triumph at the Olympic Games (Diagoras mourant de joie en apprenant le triomphe de ses deux enfants vainqueurs aux Jeux Olympiques) respectively. He at last won first prize in 1884, with Wounded Mezentius (Mézence blessé). From then on he received several official commissions from the French Third Republic, sculpting (among others) busts of Jules Ferry (1895), Charles Augustin Sainte-Beuve (1898), Émile Loubet (1901) and Benito Mussolini (1925). In all, 573 works are inventoried. He founded a museum of fine art in Rodez in 1903 (now the Musée Denys-Puech). The building, inaugurated in 1910, was designed by him in conjunction with the architect Boyer to best show off his sculptures. He was elected a member of the Académie des Beaux-Arts in 1905, and made a knight of the Légion d'honneur on 17 January 1908. On 13 May 1908, he married princess Anina Gagarine Stourdza (1 June 1865 – 14 April 1918), a painter herself, of whom he sculpted a statue holding a painter's palette in 1914. He was Director of the French Academy in Rome from 1921 to 1933. Among those who studied with him were the American sculptors Clara Hill,[2] Ernest Keyser[3] and Helen Farnsworth Mears.

Dewey Bradford (1896-1985) Austin Texas Landscape c1920's Oil on Canvas Board.
9" x 12" painting in a 14.5" x 17.5" original frame. This painting is about
85-100 years old with no significant issues to painting or frame.

Dewey Bradford was the founder of The Country Store Gallery, Austin, Texas. In
1939, Porfirio Salinas began working with Dewey Bradford (1896-1985), one of the
great characters of Texas art. Bradford was a second-generation dealer whose
family operated the Bradford Paint Company in Austin, where they sold art
supplies, framed artwork, restored paintings and hung artists work. Salinas was
struggling when he met Bradford, but the older man took the young artist under
his wing and began to sell his work reliably, even though the prices that people
would pay for a painting were still low due to the lingering effects of the
Great Depression.

Bradford was a born salesman with a gift for storytelling, and truth be told, a
bit of embroidery. The relationship between Bradford and Salinas was often
rocky, but it was to last the rest of the artists life and give him a modest
sense of loyalty and security, things which are all too rare in the art world.
While Bradford could be critical of his work, Salinas knew that he had a dealer
who encouraged him, believed in him and was not shy about singing his praises to
anyone who entered Bradford's store on Guadalupe Street.

In 1981 he was named one
of the top twelve world’s greatest living potters by Ceramics Monthlyreaders.

Reitz earned his MFA at Alfred University in 1962, where he began experimenting
with salt-glazing, a technique largely neglected by the post-World War II
ceramic studio movement. Readily embracing this firing technique, Reitz quickly
realized that it allowed the clay to keep its natural character, and its
malleability did not obscure the creator’s hand. In a decade’s time, he was
dubbed “Mr. Salt” by his peers.

He spent many years as an educator as well as a potter; he taught at the
University of Wisconsin-Madison for more than 25 years before retiring as a
professor emeritus in 1988. His extensive body of work is represented in over 50
distinguished public and private collections.

Don Reitz lived and worked in Clarkdale, Arizona. He claimed that he would have
been a poet but for dyslexia and his inability to process language. This
redirected him toward visual art where he found his voice in clay. Reitz’s art
is his legacy, and through constant reinvention and originality, he extended the
definition and potential of the ceramic arts.

Early 1920's Van Briggle Rabbit Paperweight in mulberry. No cracks, chips, restorations or crazing. 3 7/8" long x 2.5" tall. tw122Van Briggle Art Pottery was at the time of its demise the oldest continuously operating art pottery in the United States, having been established in Colorado Springs, Colorado in 1901 by Artus and Anne Van Briggle. Artus had a significant impact on the Art Nouveau movement in the United States, and his pottery is foundational to American Art Pottery. The Art Nouveau style favored by its founders continues to influence the pottery's designs. Artus Van Briggle settled in Colorado Springs in 1899 after establishing himself as a notable artist with the Rookwood Pottery of Ohio. With Anne Louise (née Gregory), his new wife, Artus began exploring the Art Nouveau style in their pottery creations, drawing awards and accolades from the American and European art communities. Although he was a talented painter who had displayed and won awards in Europe, from 1899 until his death Artus devoted himself almost exclusively to the craft and art of pottery. Van Briggle's Art Nouveau designs and distinctive matte glazes were awarded high honors from prestigious sources, including the Paris Salon, the Saint Louis Exposition, the Lewis and Clark Centennial Exposition, and the American Arts and Crafts Exhibition in Boston. The Van Briggle Pottery Studio closed in spring 2012Artus Van Briggle in 1900. Born to artistic parents on March 21, 1869, Artus Van Briggle had an early introduction to painting using materials found about the home. The Van Briggle family lived in Ohio, one of America's hotbeds of ceramic design. At the age of 17 he moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, where he decorated china dolls at the Arnold Fairyland Doll Store, while attending his early art studies at the Cincinnati Art School. After a stint at the Avon Pottery where he was introduced to the ceramic arts, Artus took a job at Rookwood Pottery; there he excelled at hand-painting designs. His skill and talent were recognized by Rookwood founder, Maria Storer, who became his benefactor, even sending him to France to study art at the Académie Julian in Paris. In Europe, he was exposed to styles of art and became infatuated with an early matte glaze from the Chinese Ming Dynasty; a type that was lost to history. Artus also met his future wife, fellow American student Anne Lawrence Gregory, an accomplished artist in her own right. Finishing their Paris studies in 1896, they returned to America. Artus resumed his work at Rookwood and also started sculpting and experimented with recreating the lost Ming Dynasty glazes.Perfecting the distinctive dull or matte glaze In 1899, struggling with health issues due to tuberculosis, Artus left Rookwood and moved to the drier air of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Upon befriending the Holmes family of Chico Basin, he stayed at the HOP Ranch during the summers of 1899, 1900, and 1901 to reduce work stress and regain strength while pursuing his own styles of pottery, centered around the Art Nouveau movement. He continued his research on the ancient matte glazes that fascinated him in Paris. After two years of trials and experiments a matte glaze was perfected. One of the matte glazes perfected by Artus was the matte blue glaze, based on an ancient Chinese process that had long been lost to history.Artus opened Van Briggle Pottery in 1901 and was joined by Anne Gregory, who took a position as a high school art teacher in Colorado Springs. In 1903, Artus Van Briggle was appointed First Director of the Department of Art and Design in Colorado College, succeeding Louis Soutter, a Swiss artist (born in Geneva, Switzerland) he met in Paris in 1895.In 1902, Anne and Artus were married, and she devoted herself to their pottery; she created designs and collaborated in all aspects of the enterprise with her husband. Late 1902 brought Van Briggle awards for his glazes and designs in Art Nouveau from the prestigious Paris Salon; he was now an accepted artist. During their early years, Artus and Ann established hundreds of Art Nouveau styles of pottery under the Van Briggle name. The Despondency vase won Van Briggle wide acclaim and first place at the Paris Salon in 1903. A display at the 1904 Centennial Exhibit in St. Louis won Van Briggle more awards and greater international fame. Van Briggle Memorial Pottery Pottery loses its founder Artus Van Briggle died in July 1904, at the age of 35. Anne continued the pottery using the forms created by Artus as a foundation and adding more designs of her own. In 1907, Anne and pottery stockholder and city-founder William Jackson Palmer began construction on a new pottery on Uintah Street. The Van Briggle Memorial Pottery — designed by Dutch architect Nicholas Van den Arend — was opened in 1908 and stands today as an historic landmark noted for its architecture and use of ceramics in the facade.Having remarried in 1908, Anne Louise Gregory Ritter leased the pottery in 1912 to Edmund deForest Curtis, who ran it until 1916. She sold the company in 1922 to J.F. and I.H. Lewis and moved to Denver the following year, where she would concentrate on painting and where she remained until her death in 1929. In her absence, the pottery fell under financial hardships and was sold at sheriff's auction; later it was re-sold, once more becoming the property of Mr. Curtis.Surviving disaster and war The pottery was sold twice more in the ensuing decade and survived a fire in 1919 that gutted the interior but left the brick shell and kilns. New owners I.F. and J.H. Lewis took the opportunity to modernize and expand the facility beginning in 1920 and stabilized the production and financial aspects of the pottery for the first time. Despite damage from the flood of 1935—the most destructive flood in Colorado Springs history — that destroyed much of the company's records and molds, the pottery continued to enjoy success up to World War II, when they closed for approximately three years as the United States focused its resources on the war effort. With the increase of interstate travel in the United States a freeway was planned in 1953 for Colorado Springs which J.H. Lewis estimated would run through the Memorial Plant site. Although the freeway eventually was planned to avoid destroying the historic pottery, Mr. Lewis nonetheless put into action plans to relocate the pottery to a higher-traffic area of Colorado Springs. In 1955, Mr. Lewis and Clem Hull brought a new facility on line at a renovated railroad roundhouse on Midland Road. The new facility, known as the Midland Plant, had a smaller capacity but enjoyed quick success due to its location on the main highway to the Garden of the Gods and other tourist locations. In 1968, Mr. Lewis sold the Memorial Plant to Colorado College, and it fell into disrepair for the ensuing 40 years, being used variously as offices and storage.

    1 in stock

Early Antique Primitive Childs Soldered tin Watering can. 7.5" tall with handle x 10.25" handle to spout. Early handmade piece predates the tin litho ones you see from the mid 20th century. I actually think it's likely from the last half of the 19th century but it could be early 20th. Great condition, it was collected mid 20th century and has been displayed since. TW222
