No damage or significant wear, circa last quarter of the 20th century. Navajo silversmith Nelson Burbank is known for his beautiful row cuffs, mostly using Arizona’s Sleeping Beauty Turquoise. His silverwork is influenced by traditional old-style silverwork. The Burbank family history in silversmithing goes back many generations. Nelson, a silversmith for over 35 years, was taught by his father and his father before him back to man who lived in the Black Mountain area of Northeastern Arizona. This family friend had learned the art from the famous first Navajo silversmith Atsidi Sani (Old Silver Smith) back in the mid 1800‘s. Experts in the area seem to agree that Atsidi Sani (“Old Smith”) was the first Navajo silversmith. Learning skills as a blacksmith first, he may have begun silversmithing as early as 1860. Nelson is the father of silversmith Nelvin Burbank. Nelson Burbank‘s hallmark of "N B"

6.8" Alfred Seaweed Kwagiulth Northwest coast sterling silver cuff bracelet
Alfred Seaweed Kwagiulth Northwest coast sterling silver hand carved cuff bracelet. Solid sterling silver, signed as shown with no issues very clean pre-owned condition. Weight and measurements in pictures. It would be a struggle to find a better example of this artists work. Alfred Seaweed was born May 22, 1949 in Alert Bay, a small fishing village off the northeastern coast of Vancouver Island. This area is representative of the Kwagiulth Nation, a tribe that inhabits mainly the southern region of the province. Alfred takes the Sisiutl (double headed sea serpent), from his mother, and the eagle, from his father, as his family crests. Alfred is a descent from a large family of carvers, so it was only natural that he began carving. In 1978 Alfred apprenticed under Lloyd Wadhams, a prominent Kwagiulth artist also from Alert Bay, who is now deceased. Lloyd taught Alfred the art of jewellery carving, using silver and gold as his mediums. Alfreds style is traditionally Kwagiulth depicting motifs that are common to the Kwagiulth mythology. Alfred is a well-respected artist in the native community as he avidly preserves the carving traditions of his ancestors for future generations.

6.8 1950's Wallie Sekayumptewa Hopi Overlay cuff bracelet sterling silver
Wallie Sekayumptewa (1917-2003) Hopi Reed Clan Silver overlay snake bracelet<br>1.5" gap, fits up to 6 7/8" wrist (including gap) 1" wide, 38.6 grams. This is<br>an older bracelet circa mid 20th century. There is not etching in the<br>background, which some of the early artist did not do.<br><br>Wallie Sekayumptewa (1917-2003) Reed Clan<br>Wallie produced jewelry from 1948 to 1967, when he ceased working due to<br>impaired eyesight, he was an early innovator in silver overlay technology at the<br>Hopi Guild in the late 1940s. The Hopi Arts & Crafts Co-op Guild was formed in<br>1947, after World War II, when returning Hopi servicemen were trained at a<br>silversmithing school founded under the G.I. bill. The late Paul Saufkie, Sr.<br>was the technical instructor and the late Fred Kabotie, noted Hopi artist and<br>designer, taught design. Although many techniques of silver work were used, the<br>overlay style gradually emerged as the dominate style. This simple, unique,<br>elegant jewelry is now considered essentially the Hopi style of jewelry.<br><br>Sekayumptewa originally made jewelry with turquoise but switched to the overlay<br>technique when the Hopi Arts & Crafts Co-op Guild was established (1947).<br><br>All precious metals are tested and guaranteed, any Native American jewelry<br>referred to as Silver or Sterling is guaranteed to be a minimum of 90% (coin)<br>silver and possibly higher content. 6.75" Wilson Begay silver and petrified tree sap cuff bracelet
6.75" Wilson Begay silver and petrified tree sap cuff bracelet. NO issues, natural substances, Etsy bots don't like the A word.<br><br>Wilson and Carol Begay are traditional Navajo silversmiths. These talented<br>silversmiths have been creating traditional Navajo jewelry since 1969. They came<br>from families well known for their jewelry making. Wilson’s father, Luke, taught<br>John Adair, author of “Navajo and Pueblo Silversmiths” how to make sand cast<br>jewelry. He worked for many years with Mike and Dean Kirk, at the famous Kirk<br>Brothers Trading Company in Gallup, New Mexico.<br><br>Carol’s parents, Angela and Allen Chee were both silversmiths who worked by C.G.<br>Wallace, the famous jewelry trader from Zuni, New Mexico.<br><br>The Begays began their career making sandcast jewelry, a traditional type of<br>Navajo jewelry that requires the artist to make carvings in Tufa stone to make<br>forms to shape molten silver. They first worked for Tobe Tupen, a well known<br>trader in Gallup. Carol remembers that silver was only $1.25 an ounce when they<br>started.<br><br>Today they are independent artists whose work is widely sought after and<br>admired. Wilson concentrates on the casting and building the foundations of the<br>jewelry and Carol sets the stones and does the finishing work. They work<br>together to design their jewelry.<br><br>Traditional sandcast silver jewelry is a unique Navajo art form. The process,<br>although it sounds simple, requires careful discipline and years of practice to<br>obtain quality results.<br><br>The artist takes two pieces of pumice stone and grinds them together to create<br>two flat surfaces. Then the design is carved into one of the two pumice stones.<br>An opening is carved from the design to the top and bottom of the stone. The two<br>pieces of stone are then tied together so that the carved design is between the<br>two flat areas. Silver is then melted in a crucible, and when it reaches the<br>proper molten form, it is poured into the opening on the top of the design. If<br>it is the proper temperature, it flows through to the bottom where it cools and<br>hardens, filling the design space. After cooling, the stones are separated, the<br>casting removed and the protrusions on the top and bottom are cut off. The<br>silver is then filed smooth and shaped.<br><br>If stones are to be set on the piece, the artist builds a silver bezel to hold<br>the stone and then solders it to the piece of jewelry. Sawdust is put in the<br>bottom of the bezel to cushion the stone and the bezel is tightened. The piece<br>is then polished to the shine the artist likes.<br><br>Wilson Begay of Gallup is the acknowledged master of the art of sandcast<br>jewelry. Luke Begay, Wilson's grandfather, demonstrated this skill to John Adair<br>in the early 1930's when Adair was conducting a survey of native silversmiths of<br>the Smithsonian. Luke taught the skill to Wilson as a young man. Today, in his<br>60's, Wilson continues to make sandcast jewelry in his Gallup home. His wife,<br>Carol, chooses the stones to be used and sets them in bezels. The Begays have<br>three daughters, Nichole, Yvonne and Bonnie, are continuing the family<br>tradition.<br><br>Wilson's stamped signature is a flat brimmed Navajo hat with his initials under<br>it. His signature is one of the most recognized in Indian jewelry. His work has<br>won top awards at the Gallup Inter-tribal Ceremonial and is a "must have" for<br>serious collectors of contemporary Indian jewelry.<br><br> Marked or unmarked as shown in pics, weight and other measurements in pics. Sorry but my jewelry is stored in a secure location and cannot be accessed for more pictures,<br>videos, or measurements until sold. If you look at pictures/description your<br>question should be answered. Thank you so much for your time and consideration!<br><br>All precious metals are tested and guaranteed. A Native American jewelry piece referred to as "silver" or "ingot" is guaranteed to be at least 90% silver. Bracelets are photographed on a 6" women's wrist.

A Native American jewelry piece referred to as "silver" or "ingot" is guaranteed to be at least 90% silver. I rarely use the word "sterling" when referring to older Native American silver or really any older silver jewelry as silver contents vary and "sterling" is 92.5% silver. No older jewelry is going to be exactly 92.5% silver, some a little over, some a little under. It wasn't an exact thing with handmade jewelry. I've seen thousands of pieces xrf'd to prove this. 6.75" UITA-21 30's-40's Navajo Silver cuff bracelet with turquoise
6.75" UITA-21 30's-40's Navajo Silver cuff bracelet with turquoise, early 1930’s to 1940’s and the place was Santa Fe, New Mexico at the prestigious Indian trading company of Julius Gans known as Southwest Arts and Crafts. The United Indian Trader’s Association or U.I.T.A., founded in 1931 was a voluntary organization made up of the leading Indian traders of the day organized to promote and enforce the highest quality standards for the creation of genuine traditional Indian Arts and Crafts. The members were a veritable who’s who of the leading Indian traders of their dayand all pieces certified by UITA and stamped with their unique arrowhead hallmark had to pass a rigorous set of quality inspections regarding the materials and techniques used. Each member of UITA was assigned a specific numeric code which all pieces sold by them had to be stamped with. One of the most prestigious Indian trading companies of the time was Julius Gans’ Southwest Trading Company of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Julius Gans was an enterprising and dynamic trader who employed at one time or another a veritable All-star team of some of the finest Native American silversmiths in the business; the Roanhorse brothers, Ambrose and Sam, Mark Chee and the fine Cochiti Pueblo silversmith David Taliman among others. The numeric code assigned by UITA to Southwest Arts and crafts was “UITA21” which is the stamp this bracelet is marked with. This bracelet could very easily have been made by any one of Southwest Arts and Crafts’ ace silversmiths; it most resembles in our minds the work of Ambrose Roanhorse but it could easily have been made by his brother Sam or even possibly by Mark Chee or David Taliman or a number of others. The design is a beautiful repeating pattern of nine perfectly-executed diamond-shaped Navajo textile-style designs running across the center of the bracelet’s shank.“The United Indian Traders Association (UITA) was established on September 13, 1931 for the expressed purpose of authentication of Indian crafts. At the time, the UITA as an important player both in Indian cultural life and in advocating for the sale of authentic Indian arts and crafts.UITA was incorporated as a non-profit in New Mexico, with the support of a number of traders and San Francisco attorney Charles Elkus. Bert Staples (Coolidge, NM) was UITA's first President, R. C. Master (Zuni, NM) was Vice President, C. N. Cotton (Gallup, NM) served as Treasurer and Tobe Turpen (Gallup, NM) was Secretary. Directors included L. L. Sabin, C. G. Wallace, J. M. Drolet, Ramon Hubbell, Lloyd Ambrose, Bruce Barnard and Mike Kirk. All of the founding directors and officers were veteran owners of trading posts in the Southwest. The founding membership of 753 grew to over 125 in about 10 years.”-Quotation source and © Bille Hougart BooksAll precious metals are tested and guaranteed. 6.75" Tom Dewitt Sterling high grade turquoise cuff bracelet
6.75" Tom Dewitt Sterling high grade turquoise cuff bracelet. Weight and measurements in pics. No issues, solid sterling with markings shown. Tom Dewitt (American, 1947-2021) Anglo Santa Fe artist Tom Dewitt is known for creating “old style silver pieces. He is inspired by silverwork from the 1880s-1940s. Toms work regularly is mistaken for being much older than it is. Tom has been creating retro-style jewelry for over four decades and sells his work in galleries around the country. Tom was born in Michigan and raised in Los Angeles, California. He graduated from Venice High in 1965. He began his silver- smith career directly after school while also working as a lighting technician for major venues in L.A. during the wave of the 1960‘s psychedelic rock & roll concerts. He eventually landed a job with Fox Studios working as an electrician for long-running TV series‘ such as M.A.S.H., Dragnet, The Love Boat, and others. He also worked on some big films; The Doors, Lonesome Dove, Natural Born Killers, The Missing, and others. He made frequent trips to Santa Fe starting when he was 21 to buy and sell jewelry, trade and pick up tools. He made New Mexico his home in the 1970s settling in Pojoaque as a silversmith also returning to L.A. for work in the movie and TV business. He was one of the original "Anglo Silversmiths" in New Mexico and a trader. He called his jewelry "old pawn while you wait" because it looked like the old Native American jewelry found in pawn shops. He had a special relationship with the Zuni Pueblo and revered the culture and artistic styles of the Native American silversmiths and artisans. He sold to major galleries in Santa Fe and had a line with Ralph Lauren in the early 2000s. He was extremely talented and people from all over the world collected his work. Tom was a silversmith for 52 years making over 20,000 pieces of southwestern and cowboy style jewelry and art. Marked or unmarked as shown in pics, weight and other measurements in pics. 6.75" Shreve Saville Sterling spiderweb turquoise inlay cuff bracelet
6.75" Shreve Saville Sterling spiderweb turquoise inlay cuff bracelet. Weight and measurements in pictures, solid sterling silver with no issues. Modern, possibly unworn at a fraction of retail. “I believe that jewelry should not only be beautiful but have intrinsic value that can be passed on to future generations Shreve Saville Shreve R. Saville loves adventure, design, and treasure. He grew up on a ranch near Fredericksburg Texas and was influenced by Native American art at an early age. It was tradition for his Mom to display all of the wonderful pieces his family had collected dating back to before the 1930s. The pieces with turquoise from famous mines and the intricate patterns in the wool Navajo rugs were his favorites. To Shreve, these were treasures with intrinsic value, to be handed down for generations. In college in Oregon, he joined a college-sponsored adventure travel/Eco-tourism program. Traveling throughout New Zealand and Australia, he had the opportunity to experience immersion into the local Maori culture. Later his travels led him to Asia, where he was able to explore ancient temples, marveling at the amazing diversity of art. These experiences impacted him deeply and he began to bring ethnographic art home. The scope of the pieces ranged from ancient Majapahit beads and Dayak tribe wood carvings to antique Javanese textiles and many other unique items. In time, Shreve decided to make his own treasures, turning his travel experiences and cultural influences into objects of art. The mission was to incorporate adventure, intrinsic value, and design into pieces he could share with the world. From this new beginning, he was brought full circle back to his early influence of American Turquoise. Shreve now owns several mines that supply his designs. One is Thunder Mountain, which produces exceptional, highly collectible turquoise. Shreve also has exclusive contracts for the production of other mines such as the Grasshopper mine which produces both turquoise and faustite. The constants throughout Shreves life have been his love of adventure, his pursuit of travel, and his belief in the quality of goods. With every piece that Shreve makes, there is a love of quality, a love of creativity, and a devotion to excellence. Shreve now resides in the mountains outside of Santa Fe with his wonderful wife and son, close to nature, and free from hustle.

6.75" Richard and Rita Begay Navajo sterling Kachina overlay cuff bracelet
6.75" Richard and Rita Begay Navajo sterling Kachina overlay cuff braceletRichard S. and Rita Begay are both Diné. Richard started making traditional and contemporary gold, silver mosaic inlay, overlay jewelry in 1974. Richard is also a painter and a recording artist. It is unclear when Rita Begay started making her silver jewelry. Her first publication was in 1985, and is the same time they had a booth at Indian market in Santa Fe. They use the same stamp RB.All precious metals are tested and guaranteed. Bracelets are photographed on a 6" women's wrist.
