The beautiful designs of Edward H. Bohlin, one of America's greatest craftsmen, are a treasured part of American history and are highly sought after by museums and other collectors. Bolen items are currently produced by skilled artisans in Dallas, Texas, recreating their beautiful curves and ornamentation. Not only are each pieces exquisitely crafted, but the stories behind the buckles and motifs continue to fascinate people as more than just decorative objects. This limited edition buckle was specially produced by Bohlin to commemorate the release of the film "The Lone Ranger." The Lone Ranger, originally aired as a radio drama in 1933, was adapted into a television series in the late 1940s, a popular series that ran for about 10 years, and also aired in Japan from the late 1950s. This popular American work has since been adapted into a film several times, and in 2013, Walt Disney Pictures will release a new version with an all-star cast, including executive producer Jerry Bruckheimer, director Gore Vabinski of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" film series, and Johnny Depp as Tonto. Bolen, which has a deep historical connection to The Lone Ranger and has produced decorative items for the TV series, has been given special permission by Disney to create buckles featuring the most memorable scenes and motifs from the show. This special model, released in a limited edition of only 80 pieces worldwide, marks the 80th anniversary of the radio drama's first broadcast.

c1940‘s Dan Simplicio Zuni Lone Mountain turquoise silver ranger belt buckle set. 3/4" ranger set, unmarked, attributed to Dan Simplicio, likely from the second quarter of the 20th century. The belt fits a 38-41" waist with existing holes. The belt is signed Fred Harvey, which is really cool and likely really rare and possibly collectible in it‘s own right. The belt is old but liikely has some life left in it if cared for. I don‘t really feel like I‘m charging a premium for the leather belt as this ranger set is rare and important, especially with this high grade turquoise which is most likely Lone Mountain. Zuni silversmith, Dan Simplicio (1917-1969) learned the art of jewelry making from his uncle, Juan DeDios, one of the earliest Zuni silversmiths. Although this World War II veteran only had about 30 short years of jewelry making, his talent and techniques are still recognized. Simplicio is one of the first known artists to begin incorporating natural red coral branches and rough-cut coral nuggets into his jewelry. As early as 1931, it is also said that he is possibly one of the first Zuni artists to begin using gold. Simplicio worked at C.G. Wallaces trading post and collaborated with amazing Zuni artists including Leekya Deyuse, Teddie Weahkee, Leo Poblano, Bernard Homer and Lee Edakkie. Throughout his time, he developed an inapt ability to create stunning leaf motifs with intricate stamps and carved details, beginning his signature balance of delicate leaf work and heavy turquoise and coral designs.

Circa last quarter of the 20th century with no damage, fully functional. Big buckle, takes up to a 1.75" belt. This is an important buckle won by a historically important cowboy. There is a ton of gold on this buckle. All of the raised areas are solid 14k and 10k gold. It would not take much at todays prices for there to be 1k in gold on this buckle, I honestly think there is more than 1k worth of gold on this buckle, and it‘s historically significant. Harry Charters at the Hayward CA rodeo, later known as Rowell Ranch Pro Rodeo. Attached are two digital images I found of Harry Charters online, I don‘t have physical copies of these images, nor are they included in the listing. Just showing the Famous Cowboy who won/owned this buckle. Harry Charters Steer Wrestling Inducted 2015 Although Harry Charters didnt buy his RCA permit until 1958, at the relatively advanced age of 33, he managed to compete at an elite level for a decade. He won his only world championship as a rookie steer wrestler in 1959, and went on to put nine NFR qualifications on his career résumé six in bulldogging and three in tie-down roping. He barely missed a second world steer wrestling title in 1962, when he finished second by $773 to fellow Class of 2015 ProRodeo Hall of Fame inductee Tom Nesmith. “If he would have started (with the RCA) as a young guy, 11-time World Champion Dean Oliver said, “He probably would have won more than anyone in the history of bulldogging. At 6-6, 250 pounds, Charters was perhaps the biggest world champion in rodeo history and yet was described by his peers as “dazzling fast and fleet of foot. Charters was also well-known for his innovative approach to timed-event technique. He is said to be the first calf roper to dismount from the right side of his horse and his bulldogging style was uniquely his own, giving the appearance that he was picking up the steer, spinning it around and flinging it to the ground. His Pendleton (Ore.) Round-Up steer wrestling record of 5.0 seconds stood for 11 years. Crowned the “Rodeo King of the West for his contributions to the sport, Rowell part of the ProRodeo Hall of Fames inaugural class of 1979 was a stock producer for 25 rodeos throughout the West, including the Grand National Rodeo in San Francisco. But it was his own home rodeo that held a special place in his heart. Upon Rowells death in 1969, his wife, Maggie, kept the rodeo going with help from Art Palmer and Cecil Jones, and she had it written into her will that the Hayward Area Recreation and Park District could purchase the rodeo site as long as city officials promised that the grounds would be made available for free each year to continue the Rowell Ranch Rodeo and a junior rodeo. In 1977, a local non-profit organization was formed in compliance with Maggies wishes to assure the continuation of the rodeo as a traditional historical community event, a fundraiser for local charities and a lasting tribute to her British-born husbands love of the West. The rodeo begins each year with a lone rider galloping down “Harrys Hill, carrying the American flag into the arena.

All items will likely have some age appropriate/expected wear, the older they are the more wear they should have. Circa last quarter of the 20th century.. Fits up to a 1.75" beltClarence LeeNavajo SilversmithBorn in 1952 in Ft. Defiance, AZ, Clarence Lee was the second oldest of six children. His parents, Tom and Emma Rose Lee raised their children in Twin Lakes, NM. Currently, all his siblings work with silver to one degree or another with the exception of a sister who works in the health care system.Clarence learned his craft from his late father Tom Lee who built and owned a Trading Post in Twin Lakes and learned how to make silver jewelry to supplement his income when business at the Trading Post was slow. Tom Lee fought in the Pacific Theatre during World War II, was a POW for four years and a survivor of the infamous “Death March of Bataan.” He later became New Mexico’s first Native American State Senator. Clarence’s mother, Emma was recognized in her own right as the maker of the first Navajo Nation Flag.Clarence discovered his love of art work in elementary school when a teacher saw promise and encouraged him to pursue his talent. Later on at Tohatchi High School in New Mexico he met his first real art teacher Mrs. Hale. Clarence favored his art classes over academic classes because he suffered from dyslexia. In school he made metal sculptures and worked in oil and watercolors. (Clarence still paints occasionally.)Mrs. Hale also saw potential yet admonished him, “Don’t start giving stuff away.” Her comments did not discourage him and while he was still in high school continued selling his jewelry to teachers. In addition to his art, Clarence was interested in rodeo and participated in calf and team roping events. Throughout his high school years, Clarence continues to help his father sell traditional jewelry. When financial pressures grew Clarence left school just short of his high school graduation to support his family. His first pieces of silver work were traditional hammering and stamp work set with stones. Clarence developed his own unique style almost by accident when he shaped a piece of silver resembling a dog. “I did that for eight months and sort of fell over backwards into storyteller style. I made my first bracelet and pin. I didn’t set any stones in my work until later.”His ideas come from his childhood memories of summers spent with his great grandmother at her summer home in the mountains. He remembers herding sheep and cattle near his home with friends and relatives. Images of windmills, water barrels, old trucks, wood stoves, dogs and rabbits are reflected in his artwork today. Along the way he has added whimsical animals, cowboys, dancers, children and many other images to his collection.Clarence prefers to sell his jewelry at Indian shows and present his work in competitions and exhibitions. HIs first show was at the Grand Canyon in Arizona. In early years he struggled to make a name in the art world and support his family. Fortunately, the first few shows provided the emerging silversmith encouragement. “I got a good response and it just opened up from there.”His first competitive show was at the Navajo Nation Fair where his work garnered a first place ribbon in 1977. “ I started signing using an engraver at the beginning, using my family’s registered brand stamp. Using the brand was my dad’s idea, but by 1988 I added my own signature.”In 1976, Clarence married and later that year his son Russell was born. By 1980 Clarence was a divorced single parent raising his four year old son and began taking his son along to all his shows.“When Russell was about ten or so he wanted a toy he saw at the mall. I told him you have to earn it by selling something first.” From there Russell was encouraged to try his hand as a silversmith. Russell followed his father’s footsteps and eventually entered various junior competitions winning numerous awards for his work. Russell hoped to go to college after he graduated from high school but during his senior year Russell’s responsibilities in the family jewelry business began to rapidly grow. Russell postponed his college plans to tend the family business, a business that has not slowed down since. Now as an adult, Russell helps full time with the jewelry business work. An apprentice and talented artist in his own right, Russell fashions most of the tiny figures his father incorporates into his storyteller images. Three museums currently display pieces made by Clarence and Russell. You can see a bracelet on display at the San Diego Museum of Man in San Diego, California. In June 2006, the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art in Indianapolis, Indiana purchased the 3-D card holder, “Mr. Yazzie goes to town” that will remain in their permanent collection. There are also several pieces on display at the British Museum in London, England.Clarence passed away February, 2011.

His career, which spanned more than 60 years, earned him national recognition, including being named an Arizona Indian Living Treasure in 1994.Born on June 7, 1922, in the village of Shungopavi on Second Mesa, Victor was a member of the Waterhouse Clan. He first learned the basics of silversmithing in 1940 under the guidance of Paul Saufkie. But his early career was interrupted by World War II, during which he served with distinction in the South Pacific. A member of the 167th Combat Military Police and later the 5309th Infantry Division under General Frank Merrill (Merrill’s Marauders), Victor saw heavy combat in Burma and was awarded the Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, and Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Ribbons. After being honorably discharged in 1946, Victor returned to Hopi and became one of the first students in the now-legendary Veterans’ Classes established under the G.I. Bill. Taught by Fred Kabotie and Paul Saufkie, these classes marked the beginning of a new era in Hopi silversmithing. Victor not only mastered the overlay technique but innovated within it—introducing a background texturing method inspired by leatherwork that became a defining feature of Hopi overlay jewelry.Victor's designs, executed in both sterling silver and gold, are known for their precision, spiritual depth, and elegant symbolism. Many of his pieces reflect Hopi traditions and cosmology, and his work has been collected by major institutions and private collectors around the world. In addition to his artistry, Victor was deeply rooted in the traditional Hopi way of life. A lifelong dry farmer, he raised corn, squash, beans, and watermelons without irrigation or chemical inputs, relying entirely on prayer, ceremony, and natural rainfall. “Jewelry is my hobby; corn is my work,” he once said with characteristic humility. He attributed the success of both his crops and his craft to blessings from the Creator. “When you pray, you should pray for all things, and in return, all things are benefited. Nothing can be accomplished without prayer.”Victor retired from silversmithing and farming in 2006 and continued to live with his family at Hopi until his passing on July 3, 2011, at the age of 89. Today, his legacy lives on in the work of his descendants and in the broader community of Hopi artists who follow the path he helped shape. His jewelry remains among the most iconic and sought-after expressions of Hopi artistry—no serious collection of Hopi overlay work is truly complete without a piece by Victor Coochwytewa.

Hollands Fine Jewelry has been a prominent contributor in the West Texas community for over 100 years. The family owned business began its story in 1918 when Chase Holland, Sr. purchased a jewelry store from Mr. C. C. McBurnett and renamed the business “Hollands Jewelry. Prior owners can, however, be traced to 1891. In addition to traditional jewelry and watches of the period, Hollands Jewelry was widely recognized for its extensive inventory of fine silver, china, and crystal. The Hollands Spur Clip was created and patented in 1936. With the country emerging from the difficult years of the Depression, Mr. Holland designed a miniature sterling silver spur tie clasp as a symbol of recognition, given to someone who had “earned their spurs. Two of these first “Spurs Clips were presented to President Franklin Roosevelt and Vice-President John Nance Garner. Over the years, many other celebrities, politicians, and dignitaries have been presented spur jewelry as gifts of both accomplishment and gratitude. The spur clip marked the genesis of Hollands Jewelrys debut into the world of jewelry manufacturing, specializing in hand-crafted buckles, spur jewelry items, and a variety of other hand-made, hand-engraved specialty pieces, many of which are still in production. The family owned business grew quickly. Chase Hollands son, Chase, Jr. began his work in the business after completing his service in the Army Air Corps during WWII. Chase Jr., with his wife Virginia, began management of the company in 1960. Many of our clients still remember working with Mrs. Virginia, who was a major staple in the community. With the help of the store manager Mr. George McCormack, and her two sons Chase III and Bill, the company grew into the successful establishment that it is today. Brant Horner of Brownwood, TX joined the company in 1985. After graduating with an accounting degree from Angelo State University, he continued to progress at Hollands Jewelry and quickly worked his way to Master Jeweler. Aside from his fine craftsmanship as a jeweler, Brant brought a new age of tailored jewelry making to Hollands. He specializes in die making, hand carving and modern rapid prototyping for custom jewelry, stone setting, and hand engraving. In 2012, Brant became business partners with the Holland brothers. After celebrating the 100th year for the company, Bill Holland joined Chase Holland III in retirement and Brant Horner took over ownership and management of the company. The family operated tradition continues with Brant Horner and his daughter, Evyn Horner Higgins, who began working at Hollands in 2011. Hollands Jewelry is a member of The American Gem Society, Jewelers of America, Jewelers Vigilance Committee, Better Business Bureau, and many other trade organizations. For over 100 years, Hollands has been committed to providing professional, knowledgeable service while offering quality diamonds, jewelry, gemstones, watches, and exclusive gift items. anderas

He studied painting at the Indian School under Florence Prentiss. His skill and love of painting brought him to Santa Fe where he began to innovate the traditional "flat" style. These innovations did not suit his teachers, so from there he moved on to making jewelry. From this point on in his career, Lomay became one of the best jewelers of his time. He worked and studied with Frank Patania in Santa Fe. He worked in both silver and gold, letting his influences range from traditional to European. His work became known for its innovation, and he is noted for being a designer ahead of his time.Marked or unmarked as shown in pics, weight and other measurements in pics. If you would like to chat, that would be great, but lets chat about something that isn't answered in this listing that we put so much effort into already :)

All precious metals are tested and guaranteed. A Native American jewelry piece referred to as "silver" or "ingot" is guaranteed to be at least 90% silver. I rarely use the word "sterling" when referring to older Native American silver or really any older silver jewelry as silver contents vary and "sterling" is 92.5% silver. No older jewelry is going to be exactly 92.5% silver, some a little over, some a little under. It wasn't an exact thing with handmade jewelry. I've seen thousands of pieces xrf'd to prove this. Age appropriate wear. For over 50 years Richard Chavez has been at the forefront in changing the perception of what “Indian jewelry” is supposed to be. His appreciation for simplicity and meticulous attention to detail evident in his jewelry-making grew out of his training as an architect. Chavez uses his immense talent as a lapidary artist to inlay distinct forms with irregular cuts of stone and carefully selected color schemes to create his contemporary, chic pieces with an emphasis on purity and balance. From start to finish, each piece of jewelry involves many steps; beginning with sketches, followed by soldering, sanding, cutting, polishing and the lapidary process. Each step is done entirely by Chavez, with the lapidary process being the most intensive. This time-consuming labor of love begins with the purchase of only the best raw materials which Chavez then cuts to become part of his signature designs set into a silver or gold frame. His work has received numerous awards since his first competition in 1976. Yet in 1990, Richard stopped entering juried competitions, feeling he no longer required competitive validation. Instead, he finds the positive reactions and comments from the public and his esteemed clientele to be more gratifying than any award he could receive. Listed with ExportYourStore.com

It was there he first learned about rocks. He attributes his design sensibility to his Scandinavian upbringing as seen in the simple designs of furniture and wood- working. He says he thinks of his work as a hybrid of sculpture, painting and jewelry.“Inlay is a field of color, very much like painting. I’m always thinking empty and full space. You have to fill the space with something beautiful and once it is made, it can’t be adjusted, like Cinderella’s slipper.” Listed with ExportYourStore.com

Many of the pieces in his inlay process take on the texture, feel, and look of a village, particularly multi-storied Taos Pueblo. Lorraine Waatsa Zuni sterling silver turquoise cluster buckle for 1.5" belt. Solid sterling silver (tested) with weight and measurements in pictures. Circa third quarter of the 20th century. Age appropriate wear.Lorraine descends from a family of Zuni jewelers; the daughter of Alice and Duane Quam and grandchild of Doris and Wayne Ondelacy. Silversmith is in her blood and she was taught the craft as a youngster by her parents. Lorraine recalls making her first piece in 1971 whilst still living at home with her parents. She describes their process of making jewelry starting with shaping the stones to get them closer to the shape needed. Lorraine then grinds the stones on a 100 grit wheel without using any water. One the stone is close to the shape, she uses a sealing wax melted to a stick (size depends on the stone) and uses the stick instead of hands to perfect the size of the stone. Luwayne then finishes with the silverwork. Lorraine and Luwayne are prolific and their work is a mixture of pass-downs and newer designs. She has received recognition for her art including being published in ‘Zuni Jewelry,’ by Theda and Michael Bassman. Listed with ExportYourStore.com

Dan Simplicio (1917-1969) is best known for innovative turquoise and coral settings as well as his impeccable silver work. Dan worked at C.G. Wallace’s trading post and ultimately Wallace became one of the biggest Simplicio collectors. He used branch coral it its natural form, which was unheard of during this time period. He innovated the natural coral and turquoise style of jewelry while simultaneously excelling with his silver work. He was also a master of inlay, which he did only in his formative years of which we have few examples of today. Simplicio worked with silver in a very interesting way, a way that his son credits to his time overseas in WWII. He was influenced by the French, German and Italian use of leaf patterns. It is this leaf work that sets Simplicio’s pieces apart from traditional Zuni work.

Richard Tsosie Navajo Cobblestone inlay Tufa cast belt buckle. 2 5/8" x 2", takes up to a 1.25" belt.Artists › Richard Tsosie Richard is perhaps best known for his distinctive textured silver designs. His trademark techniqie of granulation was discovered by accident when he noticed silver filings were fusing onto a ring he was soldering. He calls the process which produces this granulated surface texture “reticulation,” and he has been perfecting the technique throughout his career.Born in 1956, Richard has been a jeweler since the mid 1970s. He learned jewelry making from his brother Boyd and from Kenneth Begay at Navajo Community College in Arizona. He quickly progressed from basic tasks of cutting and polishing stones to the more complex process of inlay.Richard’s contemporary silver and hold work features the use of fabrication, overlay, and granulation. He is also known for colorful inlay work with a variety of natural stones and for his fine degree of control and attention to detail. His designs are motivated by images of the natural world, particularly the Wide Ruins area of the reservation where he spent a large part of his youth. Richard says of his work, “I am inspired by the colors of the mountains at sunset, the patterns of shadow and light that emerge at dawn, and the pinpoints of starlight against the black night sky.”His pieces typically contain the symbol for lighting and an arrow pattern. The lightning stands for natural causes, while the arrowhead symbolizes man-made elements. Richard says the design represents the ups and downs of life. “Some things we can’t do anything about and you should try to enjoy life to the fullest.”All precious metals are tested and guaranteed,

1.75" Les Baker Shop Navajo sterling silver vintage carved turquoise belt buckle. Solid sterling silver (tested) with weight and measurements in pictures. Circa third quarter of the 20th century. Age appropriate wear. Fits a 1.75" belt.Les Baker was a well-known southwest jewelry artist who designed and also made jewelry himself. Although he was Anglo he employed many Native American silversmiths throughout the years, most notably Fritson Toledo, the great Navajo artist. Les had a great deal to do with the success of the Stagecoach. We have sold more Les Baker jewelry throughout the years than any other jewelry artist. But beyond that, Les was a great mentor and friend to Susan and Gary, here at the Stagecoach. Back in the late 1970’s Gary called Les about selling his jewelry. Gary and his father, Jim, met Les in Denver and have sold his jewelry ever since. In the early 1980’s, Gary spent a week in Albuquerque while one of Les’ Navajo silversmiths taught Gary the craft. This was one of the turning points at the Stagecoach. We could now size our own sterling silver and gold rings and eventually make our own jewelry right here at the Stagecoach. This was and is a huge advantage in selling jewelry as our knowledge of the craft went up exponentially. And for all this, Les asked nothing in return.Les was born in 1935 and when he was older joined the Navy. He told me once that he lied about his age to get into the Navy and became one of the youngest Navy pilots ever. After the Korean War he headed back to New Mexico and became interested in American Indian jewelry. His wife at the time (ex-wife now) wanted a Navajo squash blossom necklace but Les couldn’t afford it. He was always resourceful and since Les didn’t have the money to purchase the squash blossom he figured he would try making one himself. It turned out so nice that when Les’ wife was at a party with Edith Maisel, the “Queen of Indian Jewelry” was so impressed that she offered Les a job. Maisel helped popularize “Indian Jewelry” and though it wasn’t actually handmade, Maisels’ offered many Native Americans a job and increased the awareness of this art form. This was Les’ big break and he later also learned from the great Native American artist Carl Louthy.Eventually Les opened his own shop and was at the right time and the right place when the great “Indian Jewelry” boom in the 1970’s hit. Everybody wanted this turquoise Indian jewelry, from celebrities to the common man and woman. Les teamed up for a while with Bing Crosby (not the singer but the Indian Trader) and at one time had around 50 Native Americans working for him.Les developed his signature look, the swirling free flowing scroll work with leaves and flowers which he used throughout his life. He was one of the first to incorporate gold and diamonds into “Indian Jewelry”. Even though he had his own signature “look”, he was an expert at many different styles and techniques.
