I<br>typically prefer the hand painted pieces with heavy gold, but this piece is the exception. Very large piece measuring 12" tall x 10.25" handle to spout. It's in<br>mint condition with no gold wear, no chips, cracks, scratches or other issues.<br>Guaranteed from the second quarter of the 20th century. The mark has been<br>completely covered in thick gold. Likely made in Europe and decorated by Pickard or one of the other high end decorating studios in Chicago of the period. Great design with no damage<br>or issues.<br><br>In the early 1900s, as Italy was continuing to become the world leader in<br>fashion, the Primavera family worked as jewelry artisans in the beautiful area<br>of Pescara, Italy. In 1918, the family founded Primavera Designs and by 1921 it<br>had become the largest jewelry company in the Abruzzo region.<br><br><br><br>It was there that the family became well known throughout the region for their<br>ability to design and make jewelry for royalty and wealthy families. Often one<br>of the Primavera jewelry artisans would go directly into the home of a patron to<br>design and reproduce a cherished object of art into jewelry.<br><br><br><br>This continued in Italy until 1934, when Mr. Victor Primavera, Sr. immigrated to<br>the United States and incorporated his company in Rhode Island; the jewelry<br>capital of the United States. Primavera Designs now had a United States<br>division, known as Danecraft, with a small factory and Mr. Victor Primavera, Sr.<br>heading up the design and model making teams.<br><br><br><br>His forte in designing product was always timeliness. He often said that it was<br>easy to design a piece to be shown in a museum, but it took research and talent<br>to design product that would be worn by a woman with fashion sense.<br><br><br><br>Although the candlelight has been replaced by fluorescent light and some of the<br>painstaking handwork has been supplemented by modern machinery, the rich and<br>beautiful handcrafted look of distinction continues.<br><br>Since 1934, Danecraft has been privately owned and operated by the Primavera<br>family.

Composed of a large Central amethyst, Charoite, Spiny oyster shell,<br>and Opal. 44.9 grams.<br><br>Doug Nava was born and grew up in Southwest Colorado. His father was Apache and<br>his grandfather(mother’s father) was a Taos Indian. Doug’s grandfather’s name<br>was on the list of students at St. John’s school in Taos.<br><br>Doug went to college in Gunnison in Western Colorado. He earned a degree in art<br>and was also self taught as he went along. His wife, Elizabeth, also has an art<br>degree. One year after graduation, Doug bought Bennett’s Indian and Lapidary. He<br>made jewelry and sold it in his shop. His jewelry has evolved over the years<br>from Navajo style to fine inlay work. Doug is very talented in other art mediums<br>as well including painting and sculpting. He uses only the finest materials in<br>his jewelry.

History of Moorcroft Pottery Compared to many other Stoke Pottery brands, Moorcroft started quite late, created by William Moorcroft in 1897. Now, however, it’s a worldwide brand and has been growing in quality and prestige ever since its inception. In 1928, Moorcroft was appointed ‘Potters to H.M. The Queen’, cementing the quality and demand of the brand. After William died in 1945, his son Walter Moorcroft took over the responsibilities his father had held and became the sole Moorcroft designer. Walter introduced many of the exotic flowers that are seen and loved in the designs today. Walter retired from this role in 1986, and Moorcroft have since seen a steady increase in designers and have even developed the Design Studio, a place which now hosts five world-class ceramic designers. From its early conception, Moorcroft pottery was in high demand from prestigious department stores such as Harrods, Liberty of London, and even Tiffany & Co. Mid Century Hector Aguilar Taxco 940 silver bracelet. Fits up to a 7" wrist, the<br>way it's made it naturally tapers with the wrist 1.25" wide, 58.1 grams with no<br>issues.<br><br>Who was silversmith Hector Aguilar?<br>Hector Aguilar was a master silversmith, jewelry maker, and the first graduate<br>from William Spratling’s famous apprenticeships in Taxco, Mexico. He met<br>Spratling almost by chance while bringing a load of tourists to Taxco from<br>Mexico City in the 1930s. Aguilar was one of Spratling’s best pupils, who often<br>worked with close-to-pure silver (rated at 980 instead of the 925 of sterling<br>silver on the silver scale). Aguilar was also a great businessman who only<br>stayed at Spratling’s workshop for three years before finding investors for his<br>own workshop, Taller Borda.<br><br>Aguilar’s Taller Borda became a huge success in 1943, when they secured a<br>contract with an American jewelry company, Coro. They produced several notable<br>designs for Coro throughout the 1940s. Hector kept Taller Borda running until<br>1966 when he closed up shop and enjoyed a nearly 20-year retirement, his place<br>in the firmament of great Mexican silversmiths already secured.<br><br>What kind of art did Hector Aguilar make?<br>Hector Aguilar was a silversmith, jewelry designer, and artist whose work helped<br>popularize Mexican silver in the 1940s and 1950s. His workshop’s pieces for the<br>retailer, Coro were instrumental in this endeavor. That relationship lasted<br>nearly a decade and produced some of Aguilar’s most vital work. As with most of<br>the Mexican silversmiths from this time, these designs were heavily inspired by<br>pre-Columbian artifacts and the folk art of Mesoamerica. Aguilar’s work<br>continued to innovate over the next several decades, bolstered the quality of<br>his pieces, which often used much more pure silver than his competitors. These<br>days Aguilar’s jewelry is highly sought after for his mastery of the craft of<br>silversmithing as well as its extremely high silver rating.<br><br>How did silversmith Hector Aguilar get started?<br>Hector Aguilar was born in 1905 in Mexico City. Not much is known of his early<br>years, but a chance encounter with William Spratling in the early 1930s set him<br>on a silversmithing career that would span three decades. Aguilar brought<br>tourists from Mexico City to the small town of Taxco, a place that as fate would<br>have it also was where Spratling was starting his silver workshop. Aguilar<br>worked for several years as the shop manager for Spratling while also becoming<br>an apprentice silversmith. After three years, Aguilar left to start his own<br>workshop, Taller Borda. That workshop would create countless beautiful pieces,<br>with unceasing quality up until its closure in 1966.

John Bryan (1897-1982) MCM Sterling Enamel Pin/Earrings set. Great set from the<br>50's or 60's with no significant issues. One earrling with slight crazing in the<br>enamel on the edge, I believe it happened in initial firing rather than damage<br>later. Earrings 1" long, pin 1 5/8" wide. 12.6 grams total.<br><br>John William Bryan was born in 1897 in North Carolina. He was a journalist and<br>teacher in New York for a time, but returned to Asheville, North Carolina in the<br>1950's to start jewelry crafting. It is not understood how he moved from one<br>profession to the next. His jewelry was mostly abstract in design, as was most<br>of the other hand crafted jewelry of the time. He worked in sterling silver and<br>enamel, as far as is known. His work was sold mostly in the Southern Highlands<br>Handicraft Guild located in Asheville, North Carolina, which had been<br>established in the 1930's to educate the region and arts community on the<br>importance of craft and its ability to impact the local creative economy. John<br>Bryan died in 1982 in North Carolina.

Glazed<br>over pre production chip on footrim.<br><br>Jose Arellano Castelló (1921-1997) was a potter and ceramist Spanish , creator<br>of the seal Ceramistas Arellano in the field of oscense craft .<br>Heir to a pottery tradition of Moorish origin over 300 years old, he trained in<br>the family workshop, until in 1968, encouraged by the ethnographer Josep Llorens<br>i Artigas , he abandoned traditional pottery to train -with his daughter Carmen<br>and his Comrade Joaquín Javierre Rosel- the 'Arellano group', which in 1976 was<br>recognized with the National Ceramics Prize, and which at the beginning of the<br>1980s would sign the monument to «les dones de faldetes», donated to the Fraga<br>city council and which has presided over the town hall square since April 23,<br>1982 (the sculpture represents the popular Fragatina woman in typical costume<br>and with two jugs, in homage to her daily task of fetching water from the Cinca<br>River ).<br>Monument to «les dones de faldetes», in Fraga.<br>After his death in 1997, his native municipality awarded him the Medal of the<br>City of Fraga and gave his name to the street where he lived.<br>isshelf

87 c1978 Ford Motor Company Promotional Department Glass Slides Set. Selling the<br>box shown in the last pic with 87 slides. I have pictured 54 of them, the two<br>left ones in the 5th pic are cracked, that's the only two that are damaged.<br>There are 33 more that aren't photographed individually 3 of them are like<br>mirror or interior pics and 30 of them are specs for Pinto's and a few other<br>vehicles as shown in the next to last pic for Mustangs. The slides measure 3.25"<br>x 4" each and will be very well packed. I have them on a lighted table for the<br>pics. These are really great, some greater than others obviously. I don't have<br>them in any specific order for the pics, the process while fun was tedious<br>enough as it was. This is the whole lot exactly as acquired, nothing was<br>separated or sold individually. This is a very rare find. 1920's Durand Blue Cut to Clear glass Vase. 8 5/8" tall with no cracks, chips,<br>or restorations. Does appear to have some cloudiness in the interior which I<br>didn't attempt to remove. unmarked.<br><br>Durand art glass was made between 1924 and 1931. Durand was the art glass<br>division of Vineland Flint Glass Works in New Jersey which was founded by Victor<br>Durand in 1897. Many of the glass artists came from the Quezal Art Glass company<br>which closed in 1924. The artists at Durand were granted a great deal of freedom<br>to produce glass in a variety of styles. Many pieces were blown using an unusual<br>yellow glass which many collectors now refer to as "Ambergris". Durand produced<br>a wide variety of art glass items including bowls, vases, perfume bottles,<br>candlesticks and lamps. Durand's art glass quickly gained fame for its beauty<br>and quality. In 1926 Durand received a medal of honor at the Sesquicentennial<br>International Exposition in Philadelphia. Sadly production ceased in 1931 when<br>Victor Durand died in an auto accident.<br>b34

Unused condition, they<br>were tucked away in a box when I found them. 1 3/16" wide.<br><br>HISTORY OF MATISSE RENOIR VINTAGE JEWELRY<br>Matisse jewelry and Renoir jewelry are two separate lines housed under the same<br>umbrella. They first came into the market during the mid-20th century. Both<br>vintage jewelry lines used solid copper, which was once again available during<br>the post-World War II years.<br><br>Arts and Crafts Movement Influences<br>From the 1890s, and extending through several decades, the Arts and Crafts<br>Movement influenced several United States decorative art styles, including<br>jewelry making. The movement’s enthusiasts believed in a strong connection<br>between the artist and their handcrafted work.<br><br>First and foremost, Arts and Crafts artisans emphasized the use of top-tier<br>materials and functional designs.<br><br>For example, jewelry makers, like Matisse Renoir, insisted on using solid copper<br>rather than a copper-coated base metal. The artisans didn’t compromise on this<br>basic tenet. This was true whether they made a copper bracelet and matching<br>earrings or a striking copper brooch and clip-on earrings.<br><br>Due to metal purification advances, jewelry makers were able to access<br>higher-quality raw copper materials.<br><br>And, improved knowledge of copper’s properties enabled artisans to manipulate<br>the copper better, producing intricate designs.<br><br>In particular, Arts and Crafts-inspired jewelry often features nature images,<br>such as leaves and berries. A Matisse green enamel leaf brooch is a good example<br>of this nature-themed motif.<br><br>American Mid Century Designers’ Creative Inspirations<br>The Arts and Crafts Movement certainly influenced 1940s and 1950s jewelry<br>designers. Many mid-century modern designers incorporated abstraction and<br>surrealism into their pieces. And, numerous items display biomorphism, or shapes<br>that bear a resemblance to organic forms.<br><br>The bold copper motifs appealed to forward-thinking women who no longer wanted<br>to wear their mother’s or grandmother’s understated jewelry. For these ladies, a<br>copper choker, cuff bracelet, or Nefertiti necklace made the perfect accessory<br>for a night on the town.<br><br>Renowned Mid-Century Costume Jewelry Houses<br>During the post-World War II years, copper was a striking base material for<br>different jewelry genres. Deco, Native American, and modernist designs<br>prominently showcased this versatile metal.<br><br>Numerous costume jewelry manufacturers jumped on the copper jewelry bandwagon,<br>each introducing its own line of jewelry accessories. Copper is an extremely<br>adaptable metal. Not surprisingly, specialized copper jewelry makers understood<br>its properties best.<br><br>As a result, several renowned manufacturers produced most of the highest-quality<br>vintage jewelry available today. Matisse Renoir copper pieces carry a notable<br>pedigree. In addition, copper jewelry by Bell Trading Co., Francisco Rebajes,<br>and Gret Barkin remains very collectible.<br><br>Matisse Renoir Copper Jewelry Origins<br>In 1945, Jerry Fels, a Brooklyn, New York native, moved to California.<br>Previously a fighter pilot in World War II, Fels had cultivated his design,<br>painting, and sculpture talents at New York’s National Academy of Design. In<br>1946, a new jewelry style began to take the United States by storm, and Fels was<br>at the forefront of it.<br><br>Upon his arrival in the Los Angeles area, Fels and his brother-in-law Kurt<br>Freiler teamed up to create “Renoir of Hollywood.” The two later changed the<br>name to “Renoir of California,” then to “Hand Made Renoir of California,” before<br>finally settling on “Renoir.” Renoir specialized in creating copper jewelry that<br>incorporated bold geometric forms.<br><br>Not content to rest on his laurels, Fels launched “Matisse Ltd.” in 1952.<br>Matisse (which later became part of the Renoir jewelry business) also produced<br>finely crafted copper jewelry. Matisse’s decorative enameled embellishments set<br>it apart from Renoir.<br><br>From the mid-1950s until 1960, Renoir also marketed a third jewelry line called<br>“Sauteur Sterling Silver Jewelry.” The Sauteur pieces are much less common than<br>the companies’ copper jewelry items.<br><br>Renoir: A Jewelry Industry Innovator<br>Renoir was an innovator in the jewelry industry. Besides being at the forefront<br>of a jewelry style revolution, Renoir jewelry displayed three distinctive<br>product finishes that set it apart from its competitors. The first finish is the<br>“Copron” coating, which minimizes tarnishes from fingerprint oils.<br><br>Some Renoir jewelry also contains a corrosion-inhibiting shiny lacquer finish<br>that Fels obtained from an Air Force chemist friend. Unfortunately, Fels didn’t<br>note the formula, and the company’s chemists couldn’t successfully re-create it.<br><br>Finally, the third finish is the shadow. Some modernist jewelry makers<br>exaggerated their soldered copper marks by adding a black shadowing effect<br>around the soldered area. Collectors who buy these pieces are advised not to<br>polish the area to avoid eliminating the shadow.<br><br>The Renoir jewelry fabrication facility also pioneered three other innovations.<br>First, skilled machinists handled all the pre-production prep work. This left<br>the artisans free to finish, brush, and polish each piece by hand. As a result,<br>the jewelry attained a handcrafted appearance.<br><br>The Renoir shop area benefited from a complicated ventilation system that<br>prevented workers from breathing dangerous fumes. And, Fels and Freiler often<br>hired disabled and minority workers, a very uncommon practice during the 1940s<br>and 1950s. Matisse’s Curtis Tann was a highly respected African American enamel<br>artist of the era.<br><br>Matisse Renoir Ceases Production<br>Three unfortunate events collectively led to the end of Matisse and Renoir<br>jewelry production. During the early 1960s, jewelry sales were strong, and the<br>companies expanded their production facilities.<br><br>Then, American jewelry tastes began to change, and the demand for bold geometric<br>jewelry waned. At the same time, Matisse and Renoir were frequently mounting<br>expensive legal defenses against cheap copycat manufacturers.<br><br>Finally, the companies faced constant problems with a popular (and troublesome)<br>enamel design. High rejection levels led to massive losses, and finally, the two<br>companies went bankrupt and closed in 1964.

He is the oldest son<br>of Charles Lotton and was introduced to the world of glassblowing at a very<br>young age. In 1970, Charles started building a furnace and began blowing pieces<br>of glass from melted down pop bottles in a shed behind their house. David was<br>there in this infancy and he was Charles first assistant at the age of ten.<br>David has vivid memories of his childhood working in the shop with his father.<br>When most children were playing childhood games he was spending time after<br>school and on the weekends helping him at the bench. By the age of 14 he started<br>learning how to do finishing work, polishing the bottom of the glass flat. David<br>eventually followed in his fathers' footsteps and by the age of 15 began making<br>paperweights.
