During this period he also began attending<br>Marguerite Wildenhain’s Pond Farm School (located in northern California) in<br>1968. Peter went on to earn his M.A. from the University of Iowa in 1971.<br><br>Inspired By Art & History<br>During this time, Peter caught the inspirational fire of the Bauhaus movement of<br>Walter Gropius in Post World War I Germany. Allenroy Paquin (Jicarilla Apache/Zuni) Multi-stone channel inlay lizards beaded<br>Sterling necklace approx 22" long, 79.7 grams with no issues.<br><br>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zjw_iOVUyhM<br>above is a link to a video of the Artisan who made this piece being interviewed<br>15 years ago.<br><br>Allenroy Paquin is a jeweler who is known for his wonderful depictions of<br>lizards, frogs and sea turtles in silver and gold, often with beautiful inlay<br>work. He likes to incorporate humor into his work, as can be seen in his<br>wonderful lizard pins that are designed to perch on the wearer's shoulder, one<br>of his unique designs.<br><br>Growing up in Albuquerque, away from his father's Zuni Pueblo and his mother's<br>Jicarilla Apache Reservation, Allenroy was not always interested in his native<br>heritage, much less in making jewelry. In high school, he became interested in<br>fancy dancing, one of his favorite activities through today. At this same time,<br>his father took up jewelry making to support their family after being disabled<br>in an accident, but it still did not interest Allenroy. Instead, he earned a<br>degree in technical engineering. It was not until his father died several years<br>later, when his mother gave him his father's tools, that Allenroy realized this<br>was his inheritance and heritage. Today he considers his father to be his<br>strongest inspiration.<br><br>This feeling was reinforced one time when he was having a creative block. He<br>found a lizard in a shed he was cleaning, and was captivated by its colors and<br>shapes. "It was like someone told me, 'make inlay lizard jewelry.' I felt it was<br>my dad telling me to do that." It seemed logical after that to move on to<br>turtles and frogs.<br><br>Allenroy is interested in educating as well. His sons, Ignacio and Kyle, have<br>already started making jewelry, and have won awards for their work. Allenroy<br>also teaches school children about native heritage, trying to break down the<br>image of the "stereotypical Hollywood Indian." He performs a solo show that<br>incorporates storytelling, dancing and flute playing at schools. MCM Sterling Danecraft Necklace 16" long 43.5 grams. Great design with no damage<br>or issues.<br><br>In the early 1900s, as Italy was continuing to become the world leader in<br>fashion, the Primavera family worked as jewelry artisans in the beautiful area<br>of Pescara, Italy. In 1918, the family founded Primavera Designs and by 1921 it<br>had become the largest jewelry company in the Abruzzo region.<br><br><br><br>It was there that the family became well known throughout the region for their<br>ability to design and make jewelry for royalty and wealthy families. Often one<br>of the Primavera jewelry artisans would go directly into the home of a patron to<br>design and reproduce a cherished object of art into jewelry.<br><br><br><br>This continued in Italy until 1934, when Mr. Victor Primavera, Sr. immigrated to<br>the United States and incorporated his company in Rhode Island; the jewelry<br>capital of the United States. Primavera Designs now had a United States<br>division, known as Danecraft, with a small factory and Mr. Victor Primavera, Sr.<br>heading up the design and model making teams.<br><br><br><br>His forte in designing product was always timeliness. Doug Nava Taos/Apache Sterling silver multistone Channel inlay Necklace.<br>Approximately 17" total length, unmarked other than Nava's hallmark, tests<br>sterling. Composed of a large Central amethyst, Charoite, Spiny oyster shell,<br>and Opal. 44.9 grams.<br><br>Doug Nava was born and grew up in Southwest Colorado. His father was Apache and<br>his grandfather(mother’s father) was a Taos Indian. Doug’s grandfather’s name<br>was on the list of students at St. John’s school in Taos.<br><br>Doug went to college in Gunnison in Western Colorado. He earned a degree in art<br>and was also self taught as he went along. His wife, Elizabeth, also has an art<br>degree. One year after graduation, Doug bought Bennett’s Indian and Lapidary. He<br>made jewelry and sold it in his shop. His jewelry has evolved over the years<br>from Navajo style to fine inlay work. Doug is very talented in other art mediums<br>as well including painting and sculpting. He uses only the finest materials in<br>his jewelry.

History of Moorcroft Pottery Compared to many other Stoke Pottery brands, Moorcroft started quite late, created by William Moorcroft in 1897. Now, however, it’s a worldwide brand and has been growing in quality and prestige ever since its inception. In 1928, Moorcroft was appointed ‘Potters to H.M. The Queen’, cementing the quality and demand of the brand. After William died in 1945, his son Walter Moorcroft took over the responsibilities his father had held and became the sole Moorcroft designer. Walter introduced many of the exotic flowers that are seen and loved in the designs today. Walter retired from this role in 1986, and Moorcroft have since seen a steady increase in designers and have even developed the Design Studio, a place which now hosts five world-class ceramic designers. From its early conception, Moorcroft pottery was in high demand from prestigious department stores such as Harrods, Liberty of London, and even Tiffany & Co. Mid Century Hector Aguilar Taxco 940 silver bracelet. Fits up to a 7" wrist, the<br>way it's made it naturally tapers with the wrist 1.25" wide, 58.1 grams with no<br>issues.<br><br>Who was silversmith Hector Aguilar?<br>Hector Aguilar was a master silversmith, jewelry maker, and the first graduate<br>from William Spratling’s famous apprenticeships in Taxco, Mexico. He met<br>Spratling almost by chance while bringing a load of tourists to Taxco from<br>Mexico City in the 1930s. Aguilar was one of Spratling’s best pupils, who often<br>worked with close-to-pure silver (rated at 980 instead of the 925 of sterling<br>silver on the silver scale). Aguilar was also a great businessman who only<br>stayed at Spratling’s workshop for three years before finding investors for his<br>own workshop, Taller Borda.<br><br>Aguilar’s Taller Borda became a huge success in 1943, when they secured a<br>contract with an American jewelry company, Coro. They produced several notable<br>designs for Coro throughout the 1940s. Hector kept Taller Borda running until<br>1966 when he closed up shop and enjoyed a nearly 20-year retirement, his place<br>in the firmament of great Mexican silversmiths already secured.<br><br>What kind of art did Hector Aguilar make?<br>Hector Aguilar was a silversmith, jewelry designer, and artist whose work helped<br>popularize Mexican silver in the 1940s and 1950s. His workshop’s pieces for the<br>retailer, Coro were instrumental in this endeavor. That relationship lasted<br>nearly a decade and produced some of Aguilar’s most vital work. As with most of<br>the Mexican silversmiths from this time, these designs were heavily inspired by<br>pre-Columbian artifacts and the folk art of Mesoamerica. Aguilar’s work<br>continued to innovate over the next several decades, bolstered the quality of<br>his pieces, which often used much more pure silver than his competitors. These<br>days Aguilar’s jewelry is highly sought after for his mastery of the craft of<br>silversmithing as well as its extremely high silver rating.<br><br>How did silversmith Hector Aguilar get started?<br>Hector Aguilar was born in 1905 in Mexico City. Not much is known of his early<br>years, but a chance encounter with William Spratling in the early 1930s set him<br>on a silversmithing career that would span three decades. Aguilar brought<br>tourists from Mexico City to the small town of Taxco, a place that as fate would<br>have it also was where Spratling was starting his silver workshop. Aguilar<br>worked for several years as the shop manager for Spratling while also becoming<br>an apprentice silversmith. After three years, Aguilar left to start his own<br>workshop, Taller Borda. That workshop would create countless beautiful pieces,<br>with unceasing quality up until its closure in 1966.

John Bryan (1897-1982) MCM Sterling Enamel Pin/Earrings set. Great set from the<br>50's or 60's with no significant issues. One earrling with slight crazing in the<br>enamel on the edge, I believe it happened in initial firing rather than damage<br>later. Earrings 1" long, pin 1 5/8" wide. 12.6 grams total.<br><br>John William Bryan was born in 1897 in North Carolina. He was a journalist and<br>teacher in New York for a time, but returned to Asheville, North Carolina in the<br>1950's to start jewelry crafting. It is not understood how he moved from one<br>profession to the next. His jewelry was mostly abstract in design, as was most<br>of the other hand crafted jewelry of the time. He worked in sterling silver and<br>enamel, as far as is known. His work was sold mostly in the Southern Highlands<br>Handicraft Guild located in Asheville, North Carolina, which had been<br>established in the 1930's to educate the region and arts community on the<br>importance of craft and its ability to impact the local creative economy. John<br>Bryan died in 1982 in North Carolina.
