sz5.75 Ed Wiener (1918-1991) New York Modernist sterling and amethyst ring<br><br>"His jewelry of the period has unusual clarity in contrast to the baroque exuberance and surrealistic fantasy of some of his contemporaries," Dr. Milton W. Brown, an art historian, wrote later.<br><br>Among his clients were Louise Nevelson, the sculptor, and Martha Graham, the dancer.<br><br>Mr. Wiener worked largely in silver until the late 1950's when he branched out into new settings in gold and precious jewels, moving, as one critic put it, from craft into art. Over the years he had studios on 53d Street and on Fifth Avenue and continued to work at his Fifth Avenue gallery, by appointment, until his death.<br><br>A native New Yorker, he was largely self-taught and learned to make jewelry with plumbers' and carpenters' tools.

  • sz6 c1974 Luis Mojica modernist silver sodalite ring

sz6 c1974 Luis Mojica modernist silver sodalite ring

    1 en stock

sz6 c1974 Luis Mojica modernist silver sodalite ring, total masterpiece with no issues. Acquired with a similar bracelet by the same artist, selling the ring shown 2" long, 22.4 grams. Below is the information I recieved with it from it's original owner."Both pieces were purchased during the time that I lived in New Mexico in 1972-75 time frame. They were purchased from J. Ray Corliss (aka Rick Corliss) who owned a shop on Old Canyon Road in Santa Fe called Yazzi, Mohamed and Muldoon. Rick was quite connected to the art community at the time in Santa Fe and he was always looking for new and unusual things to sell in his store. He was quite taken with Mojica's work and told us on more than one occasion that he had visited Luis. My husband (now deceased) commissioned a bracelet from Mojica through Rick and this bracelet I am selling is the result. He had asked for a show stopper ladies ring (to me it could be either male or female) as well which is the other piece for sale. Mojica was just beginning to gain acclaim for his work but it was in no way main stream. Rick Corliss and I grew up in the same small town in CA so he was not a stranger to me and therefore I did not question him when he said he knew Luis. Rick had other pieces by the artist for sale as well during the years I lived there. That is all I can tell you about the provenance."LUIS MOJICA The artist has lived all his life in the Rio Grande valley of southern Colorado and New Mexico in the region once known as the frontier territory of the Spanish Empire in the new world and later as a state of the Republic of Mexico. The region became part of the United States in 1848. the term mestizo or “mixed blood” describing the heritage of inter-marriage between Europeans and the native peoples of the Americas is correctly applied to the artist, and is where his artistic identity began and continues. The cultural roots that underlie the artwork of Luis Mojica may not be obvious to the casual observer. Throughout his extended career as as an artist, designer, jeweler, ceramist, and painter, he has striven to transcend the limitations of provincialism and conservatism that characterize his traditional Hispanic upbringing in order to create work that is current and expressive of a larger world view. Yet, values such as respect for tradition, persistence in the face of adversity, and a belief in the importance of life long education and spiritual growth have formed the foundation of his artistic efforts as well.Over the years of his career, Mojica has become recognized as one of the most innovative and proficient jewelry artists in the Southwest. His work is distinguished by the highest standards of craftsmanship, unusual combinations of materials, and a clear sense of functional design. His inspirations include the landscape, colors and cultural icons of the American southwest which are subsequently abstracted into his jewelry designs and finished pieces. His intent to offer jewelry that is well designed and executed, which has the distinct and unique qualities that can only come from the hands of a seasoned practitioner.Mojica’s work in precious metals has been seen in museum exhibitions and collections of the Heard Museum, Phoenix, AZ, the Museum of International Folk Art, and the Museum of Spanish Colonial art in Santa Fe, NM, the Albuquerque Museum of Art and History, Albuquerque, NM and the Millicent Rogers Museum, Taos, NM. For over twelve years the artist was a participant in the annual Traditional Spanish Market held each July on the Plaza in Santa Fe, where his role as award winning exhibitor expanded to include lecturer, teacher and mentor of aspiring youth artist. He retired from Spanish Market in 2011.The artist currently maintains a home and studio in Albuquerque, NM.All precious metals are tested and guaranteed. A Native American jewelry piece referred to as "silver" or "ingot" is guaranteed to be at least 90% silver. I rarely use the word "sterling" when referring to older Native American silver or really any older silver jewelry as silver contents vary and "sterling" is 92.5% silver. No older jewelry is going to be exactly 92.5% silver, some a little over, some a little under. It wasn't an exact thing with handmade jewelry. I've seen thousands of pieces xrf'd to prove this. Bracelets are photographed on a 6" women's wrist.

Born on the Acoma Reservation, Wolf Robe was the son of Chief Day Break (Edward Proctor Hunt), Chief of the Delight Makers -- a man instrumental in the improvement of relations between the Acomas and whites. His mother, Morning Star, whose own father was Governor of Acoma seven times, was a potter and weaver. Wolf Robe learned silver-smithing from his older brother on the reservation. Wolf Robe achieved recovnition and fame for his jewelry and art work, winning the prestigious Philbrook Art Center's Grand Award in 1967. In addition, he was a businessman, with his own arts and crafts store in Tulsa, a lecturer, international traveller, author, and translator for the Bureau of American Ethnology. He assited L. A. White in his extensive studies of the Acoma Indians and made recordings for the National Anthropological Archives. Wolf Robe was particularly interested in the preservation of tribal customs, language and culture, and devoted his own time to this and the encouragement of others in similar efforts. Of his work at BAE he said, "My work there as an interpreter is the highlight of my efforts in trying to preseve all of the rich and wholesome lore of my people."* Not only was the preservation of the 'old ways' important to Wolf Robe, but also the representation and dissemination of his culture to whites, in an effort to promote their understanding and appreciation. He travelled all over Europe and to Australia for the Departments of Agriculture and Commerce, representing the American Indian to an appreciative audience. All precious metals are tested and guaranteed. sz6 Darrin Livingston Navajo Sterling Carico Lake turquoise ring

    1 en stock

Darrin Livingston Navajo Sterling Carico Lake turquoise ring. Natural stones with some natural fissures. 29 grams, size 6. Darrin Livingston resides in Church Rock, New Mexico, where he has lived most of his life. He currently lives there with his family. Church Rock is where his father and grandfather are from also; this is where he learned his silversmith trade at the age of thirteen. He attended public high school, which he enjoyed, and after graduating he really got serious with the silversmith trade and earned a living from it. A hallmark of Darrin’s jewelry is how is how precisely each piece is constructed and finished. We call this how “clean” the workmanship is. The stones are evenly set into tight fine silver bezels. There are no sharp edges or other careless craftsmanship. His pieces are obviously the work of an artist who takes no shortcuts and whose care for quality of every piece that leaves his studio is professional and complete. From the simplest single stone pendant to the advance design and crafting of a mulit-stone dragonfly necklace, Darrin’s work reflect the best traditional of Navajo silver work and pride. All precious metals are tested and guaranteed, any Native American jewelry referred to as Silver or Sterling is guaranteed to be a minimum of 90% (coin) silver and possibly higher content. Anything marked is guaranteed to be what it's marked, most bracelets are photographed on a 6" wrist (non hairy), rings photographed on the appropriate sized finger when possible. With bracelets if the measurement is not given in the description then inside circumference is shown where the metal meets the number on the the cloth tape measure.

Harald Christian Nielsen for Georg Jensen Silver and Hematite ring 46A Size 6, super clean with no damage or detectable wear. <br><br>Harald Nielsen (20 July 1892 – 22 December 1977) was a Danish designer of silver for Georg Jensen. The younger brother of Georg Jensen's third wife, he joined the company at 17 as a chaser's apprentice but later became one of the company's leading designers in the 1920s and 1930s and Jensen's closest colleague. One of his most well-known designs being the pyramid flatware pattern. In the early 1950s he headed the company's apprentice school and in 1958 became its artistic director.<br><br>Georg Jensen, (born August 31, 1866, Raadvad, Denmark—died October 2, 1935,<br>Copenhagen), Danish silversmith and designer who achieved international<br>prominence for his commercial application of modern metal design. The simple<br>elegance of his works and their emphasis on fine craftsmanship, hallmarks of<br>Jensen’s products, are recognized around the world.<br><br>Jensen was apprenticed to a goldsmith at age 14. His artistic talents were<br>briefly focused on sculpture, but he returned to metalwork, primarily jewelry<br>and silver pieces, produced in the workshop he opened in Copenhagen in 1904.<br>Jensen exhibited his works at several major foreign exhibitions (winning a gold<br>medal at the Brussels Exhibition of 1910) and quickly built a reputation as an<br>outstanding and highly original silversmith. He moved to a larger workshop in<br>1912 and acquired his first factory building in 1919.<br><br>Jensen’s silverware achieved immediate popularity and commercial success. He<br>was, in fact, the first silver maker to realize a profit from the manufacture of<br>modern silver. Until Jensen’s time virtually all successful silverware producers<br>had relied on a standard repertory of popular traditional designs. Jensen,<br>however, found that the market for his sleek, simple pieces was larger than<br>anyone had predicted. His firm grew rapidly, expanding throughout Europe and<br>opening branches in London and New York City. On both continents Jensen’s work<br>set trends for contemporary tableware. He was among the first designers to<br>fashion steel—formerly considered fit only for low-quality, inexpensive<br>flatware—into handsome, serviceable cutlery.

Mr. Avery believed that meaning is what makes life more beautiful and this concept continues to drive how we design jewelry to this day. In 2007, 53 years after he first founded the company, James Avery officially stepped down as CEO and passed the reins on to his sons, Chris and Paul. Mr. Avery’s mission was simple: to create jewelry with meaning—both for himself and others. With a focus on creating straightforward designs and a core belief of integrity in all things, his jewelry became more than precious metals and gemstones. sz6 Mitchell Calabaza Kewa silver ring with Mediterranean red coral<br><br>Award winning Kewa Pueblo artist Mitchell Calabaza has been making excellent Southwest Indian Jewelry since the 1970s.<br><br>Residents of Kewa Pueblo have taken advantage of their proximity to trade routes since ancient times to sell their handmade jewelry and pottery. Before the Spanish arrived in 1540, they were actively involved in the trade of turquoise mined at the nearby Cerrillos mine. When the Spanish established the Camino Real, the trade route that connected Mexico City with Santa Fe, Kewa Pueblo was one of the stopping points along the way. In the early 20th Century, both the railroad and Route 66 traversed the Pueblo. This has given artists a venue to sell their wares and allowed them to maintain their traditional religious practices and social structure. Almost every family has at least one member involved in the production of jewelry making.<br><br>Calabaza was born in 1949 and lives at Kewa Pueblo today (formerly known as Santo Domingo Pueblo). He is married to Marie Christine Trujillo. He has been an award winner at Santa Fe Indian Market and has exhibited there and at Eight Northern Pueblos Arts & Crafts Show and at the Museum of New Mexico portal display site in Santa Fe. He was born in Tuba City, Arizona in 1943 and lived and worked in Shiprock, New Mexico. Saville loves adventure, design, and treasure. He grew up on a ranch<br>near Fredericksburg Texas and was<br>influenced by Native American art at an early age. It was tradition for his Mom<br>to display all of the wonderful pieces<br>his family had collected dating back to before the 1930s. The pieces with<br>turquoise from famous mines and the<br>intricate patterns in the wool Navajo rugs were his favorites. To Shreve, these<br>were treasures with intrinsic value, to<br>be handed down for generations.<br>In college in Oregon, he joined a college-sponsored adventure travel/Eco-tourism<br>program. Traveling throughout New<br>Zealand and Australia, he had the opportunity to experience immersion into the<br>local Maori culture. Later his travels<br>led him to Asia, where he was able to explore ancient temples, marveling at the<br>amazing diversity of art. These<br>experiences impacted him deeply and he began to bring ethnographic art home. The<br>scope of the pieces ranged<br>from ancient Majapahit beads and Dayak tribe wood carvings to antique Javanese<br>textiles and many other unique<br>items. In time, Shreve decided to make his own treasures, turning his travel<br>experiences and cultural influences into<br>objects of art. The mission was to incorporate adventure, intrinsic value, and<br>design into pieces he could share with<br>the world. From this new beginning, he was brought full circle back to his early<br>influence of American Turquoise.<br>Shreve now owns several mines that supply his designs. One is Thunder Mountain,<br>which produces exceptional,<br>highly collectible turquoise. Shreve also has exclusive contracts for the<br>production of other mines such as the<br>Grasshopper mine which produces both turquoise and faustite.<br>The constants throughout Shreve s life have been his love of adventure, his<br>pursuit of travel, and his belief in the<br>quality of goods. With every piece that Shreve makes, there is a love of<br>quality, a love of creativity, and a devotion<br>to excellence. Shreve now resides in the mountains outside of Santa Fe with his<br>wonderful wife and son, close to<br>nature, and free from hustle.<br>All precious metals are tested and guaranteed, any Native American jewelry<br>referred to as Silver or Sterling is guaranteed to be a minimum of 90% (coin)<br>silver and possibly higher content.
