7" Chief Wolf Robe Hunt (1905-1977) Acoma Ingot silver and turquoise Snake cuff bracelet. Extremely sturdy, but could be cinched in .5" or so for a smaller wrist.Wayne Wolf Robe Hunt, a full-blood Acoma Indian (1905-1977). Born on the Acoma Reservation, Wolf Robe was the son of Chief Day Break (Edward Proctor Hunt), Chief of the Delight Makers -- a man instrumental in the improvement of relations between the Acomas and whites. His mother, Morning Star, whose own father was Governor of Acoma seven times, was a potter and weaver. Wolf Robe learned silver-smithing from his older brother on the reservation. Wolf Robe achieved recovnition and fame for his jewelry and art work, winning the prestigious Philbrook Art Center's Grand Award in 1967. In addition, he was a businessman, with his own arts and crafts store in Tulsa, a lecturer, international traveller, author, and translator for the Bureau of American Ethnology. He assited L. A. White in his extensive studies of the Acoma Indians and made recordings for the National Anthropological Archives. Wolf Robe was particularly interested in the preservation of tribal customs, language and culture, and devoted his own time to this and the encouragement of others in similar efforts. Of his work at BAE he said, "My work there as an interpreter is the highlight of my efforts in trying to preseve all of the rich and wholesome lore of my people."* Not only was the preservation of the 'old ways' important to Wolf Robe, but also the representation and dissemination of his culture to whites, in an effort to promote their understanding and appreciation. He travelled all over Europe and to Australia for the Departments of Agriculture and Commerce, representing the American Indian to an appreciative audience. All precious metals are tested and guaranteed. A Native American jewelry piece referred to as "silver" or "ingot" is guaranteed to be at least 90% silver. I rarely use the word "sterling" when referring to older Native American silver or really any older silver jewelry as silver contents vary and "sterling" is 92.5% silver. No older jewelry is going to be exactly 92.5% silver, some a little over, some a little under. It wasn't an exact thing with handmade jewelry. I've seen thousands of pieces xrf'd to prove this. • 7" Emerson Bill Navajo heavy stamped silver cuff bracelet

7" Emerson Bill Navajo heavy stamped silver cuff bracelet

    1 en stock

Emerson Bill has a technique all his own. His bracelets and buckles are done in overlay technique; a base layer of sheet silver with an overlaid layer from which the design is cut and then soldered to the base layer.

Where his technique differs is in his manner of creating the overlaid layer. In Hopi overlay jewelry the design is cut away from the top layer of sheet silver with a jeweler's jigsaw. In Emerson's technique the top layer's design is sculpted with a cold chisel. This allows him to get beveled edges and cut out angles that couldn't be achieved with a saw.

At first glance his work appears to be very deep stampwork, but stamps won't cut that deep. The visual effect he seeks is characterized by dramatic relief and bold designs. As a result, his cuffs are extremely thick and absolutely indestructible.

Marked or unmarked as shown in pics, weight and other measurements in pics. 7" Greg Lewis Acoma Carico lake turquoise repousse silver cuff bracelet

    1 en stock

7" Greg Lewis Acoma Carico lake turquoise repousse silver cuff bracelet.

Greg Lewis is a silversmith who excels at creating fine American Indian jewelry in the traditional style. Often, when looking at his work, you could almost swear that it is actually a historic piece. This is because Greg is at least the 3rd generation of jewelers carrying on the time-honored traditions and techniques that have been handed down through his family.

Greg Lewis began working with silver when he was just 15 by studying with his paternal grandfather, Alvin Concho Lewis of Acoma. So much influence comes from Greg’s grandfather including his Arrowhead hallmark, which Alvin first established in 1922. It is said that this arrowhead hallmark came to Greg’s grandfather from a birthmark on his right leg that had a similar shape.

Like his grandfather before him, almost everything that Greg Lewis does is by hand including most of his tools, which he creates out of old files and tool steel bar. All of his stamps are handmade too – either by Greg or passed down from his grandfather. Even the fine natural turquoise that Greg Lewis often sets in jewelry is hand-cut and hand-set. In fact, only Greg's torch and buffing wheel are modern – a true testament to the level of workmanship in every unique piece that Greg Lewis makes. Consider, if you will, this silver frog box by Greg Lewis. The entire box is made by hand from the heavily stamped bezel that holds the Teddie Weahkee frog fetish to the hinges that open perfectly to the 12 repousse flowers that adorn the surface to the four silver tadpoles that are carefully shaped and appliqued onto the box. No detail has been left untouched. This is the kind of quality that we’ve come to expect only from the old masters, and it is refreshing to see it continuing today.

Greg Lewis and Dyaami Lewis
Greg Lewis and his son, Dyaami
It is a painstaking and time-consuming process, but the end result is an exquisite legacy to the silversmiths that came before Greg Lewis.

Marked or unmarked as shown in pics, weight and other measurements in pics. "When silver is all shined up it hides all of the intricate
detail in the stamp work and the bezels. This older style is what I grew up with
and what I love."

Although it was his mother who inspired him to create this style of jewelry that
had that old Navajo look,it was Harry however who was the 1st to bring this
style to the forefront of the industry..Paving the way for others like his
brother-in-law Kirk Smith who then followed in Harry's footsteps & with Kirk's
connection with other artists, they then followed in Kirk's footsteps. Now this
is the dominant style amongst most Navajo artists & you see this old pawn style
darkened finishing everywhere..Kirks name will always be associated with Harry's
& vise versa.

if you've ever wondered why most Navajo pieces have that old style look &
finishing where many of you can't tell if the piece is new or old anymore,it was
this man who we can give the credit to for bringing a style of jewelry that we
now see everywhere. 7" J Lyn Tlingit Hand Carved Sterling cuff bracelet. No issues. Weight and measurements in pics. Award winning Alaskan artist Jenny Lyn Smith, is regarded by many as the Northwest’s best woman carver of wood and silver in the totemic tradition. Her childhood interest in art included drawing and painting and she carved all through high school in California. After graduating in 1967, she came to Haines with her parents, imbued with a desire “to carve a totem pole.”She trained under such noted carvers as Leo Jacobs Sr., John Hagen and Johnny Avatock, working in both wood and silver, and learned silk screening from Nathan Jackson.Jenny helped carve the world’s tallest totem pole which was exhibited at the World’s Fair in Osaka, Japan and is now in Kake, Alaska. You can find her work world-wide now, from Japan to Scandinavia; on totems at the Waster Airlines pavilion in Los Angeles; at the Alaska ferry terminal in Seattle where one of her masks is on display.Jenny has kept close to the traditions of Northwest Indian art – she was adopted into the Raven Clan of the Tlingit people in 1977 – but creates her own designs within those traditions. She was adopted as aL'uknaxhadi by Lillian Hammond, mother of Tommie Jimmie Sr. and Charles Jimmie Sr., both master carvers in the 1970s, '80s and '90s.All precious metals are tested and guaranteed, any Native American jewelry
referred to as Silver or Sterling is guaranteed to be a minimum of 90% (coin) silver and possibly higher content. Inside measures 5.75 inches plus a gap of 1.25 inches. Stamped
Sterling and Hallmarked. Weighs 51.1 Grams. Native American, Navajo,
Southwestern Indian Jewelry.Leon MartinezNavajo artist Leon Martinez says he was
influenced by his parents, Leo and Edith Martinez, to become a jewelry artist as
early as 1970. “At the age of nine, I was assisting my parents with buffering,
solder, and setting stones,” recalls Leon. He also helped his parents make
squash blossom necklaces, rings, and bracelets during the high demand for Indian
Jewelry in the 1970s. Making jewelry soon became a passion for Leon and his
talent grew enormously. “I was a self starter artist using nature from plants,
flowers, rocks, and landscapes for designs and structures. I use everything
that’s in my environment, even clouds. Everything God has made. The designs are
used for bracelets, rings, conchos, bolos, and earrings. I do my art work for
competition, and the jewelry gives me unlimited joy,” says Leon.In addition to
his parents, Leon considers many people and artists his teachers and influences,
including Calvin Martinez, Kirk Smith, Sunshine Daniel Reeves, Ernest Begay,
Tommy Jackson, and Tommy Singer.Leon’s jewelry is described as early 1900s old
style mixed with contemporary style. “In making designs, even making one piece
has made me to become patient, putting quality time into the smallest item. This
helps me to perfect my work - soldering, setting stones by size, measurement for
perfect fitting, and selection of stones for each piece of work. I try to make
each piece of jewelry close to its perfection,” says Leon.Leon has won several
first place awards at the Navajo Nation Fair and Gallup Intertribal Ceremonial,
known as the largest fair and annual event.

Brought up on the reservation in the village of Pruitt, New Mexico and born to the Meadow People Clan, Michael is also part Apache. Mr. Avery believed that meaning is what makes life more beautiful
and this concept continues to drive how we design jewelry to this day. 7" Retro Danecraft sterling/Rhinestone Large cuff bracelet. 7" including .5"
adjustable gap, no damage or issues 2" wide 64.3 grams

In the early 1900s, as Italy was continuing to become the world leader in
fashion, the Primavera family worked as jewelry artisans in the beautiful area
of Pescara, Italy. In 1918, the family founded Primavera Designs and by 1921 it
had become the largest jewelry company in the Abruzzo region.

It was there that the family became well known throughout the region for their
ability to design and make jewelry for royalty and wealthy families. Often one
of the Primavera jewelry artisans would go directly into the home of a patron to
design and reproduce a cherished object of art into jewelry.

This continued in Italy until 1934, when Mr. Victor Primavera, Sr. immigrated to
the United States and incorporated his company in Rhode Island; the jewelry
capital of the United States. Primavera Designs now had a United States
division, known as Danecraft, with a small factory and Mr. Victor Primavera, Sr.
heading up the design and model making teams.

His forte in designing product was always timeliness. He often said that it was
easy to design a piece to be shown in a museum, but it took research and talent
to design product that would be worn by a woman with fashion sense.

Although the candlelight has been replaced by fluorescent light and some of the
painstaking handwork has been supplemented by modern machinery, the rich and
beautiful handcrafted look of distinction continues.

Since 1934, Danecraft has been privately owned and operated by the Primavera
family.
