In 1876 Herman van Pampus opened a small business on the Wittenburgergracht
on the Oostelijke Eilanden . He was a good neighbor of the Vroom family, the
founders of the current V&D group. Relocation to the center of the city was
necessary. In 1897 we moved to the Nieuwendijk and in 1905 we expanded with a
second business in the building Leidsestraat 106.

The business was transferred to sons Carel and Willem in 1909, with Carel
getting the business on Nieuwendijk and Willem in Leidsestraat. During the new
construction of buildings nos. 106-108 in Leidsestraat in 1919, which
temporarily involved a temporary wooden building on Leidseplein, a riot arose in
the municipal council. Councilor Loopuit submitted a motion not to have any
buildings placed on public roads in the future, without first obtaining the
council's opinion. The speaker pointed out the temporary goldsmith's shop on
Leidseplein, popularly called “the fortress of Pampus”. He said: “This goldsmith
is also cheap, because he only pays twenty cents per square meter per week and
has had a better place than he had in Leidsestraat for quite some time.” In 1927
it was moved to Kalverstraat, an even better shopping street. In 1952 there was
an expansion with a branch in The Hague and then in 1971 a total new
construction over four buildings: Kalverstraat 117-119 and subsequently Taksteeg
8-10. All shop buildings were rebuilt in 19th century style under the
supervision of the Monumentenzorg. From then on, the business was officially
called Willem van Pampus Amsterdam BV. The Kalverstraat and Nieuwendijk branches
were closed on December 31. 1981 discontinued. The Kalverstraat and Nieuwendijk
branches were closed on December 31. 1981 discontinued. Large JR Native American silver and turquoise pendant, Nice wide bail, approx 22mm inside, other measurements in pics. All precious metals are tested and guaranteed. A Native American jewelry piece referred to as "silver" or "ingot" is guaranteed to be at least 90% silver. I rarely use the word "sterling" when referring to older Native American silver or really any older silver jewelry as silver contents vary and "sterling" is 92.5% silver. No older jewelry is going to be exactly 92.5% silver, some a little over, some a little under. It wasn't an exact thing with handmade jewelry. I've seen thousands of pieces xrf'd to prove this. Bracelets are photographed on a 6" women's wrist.

  • Large Leon Applebaum Art glass sculptural vessel - Estate Fresh Austin

Large Leon Applebaum Art glass sculptural vessel

    1 in stock

Large Leon Applebaum Art glass sculptural vessel. This piece is really heavy, probably 10-15 pounds 9.5" X 8.5" X 5.5" Signed Leon Applebaum clearly I just couldn't photograph it. This piece can be displayed on several sides, I found one rough spot shown in the center of the second pic, I believe it could have easily left the studio like that as it isn't sharp and not in any way a distraction. No other chips, no cracks, no restorations. This piece retailed for several thousand dollars. Born in Toledo Ohio, in 1945, Leon Applebaum grew up in what would become the birthplace of American Studio glass. While an art student in Toledo, Leons’ dream of becoming a high school art teacher was shattered upon enrolling in his first hot glass class. Leon was instantly intrigued by the molten material, resulting in an addiction to working hot glass that would shape and define the rest of his life. Leon completely immersed himself into this newly discovered world of glass. He completed his BFA at the Massachusetts College of Art and then received his MA at Peabody College of Vanderbilt University. Although Leon experienced success exhibiting and selling his work as an undergraduate, he sought to further his education beyond what the available universities could offer. In 1973 Leon journeyed across the Atlantic to study the enduring tradition of Swedish glass forming at the Orrefor’s Glass School. There Leon began to explore the Swedish style of optically thick glass that would influence the future of his work. After a year of studying and working at Boda Glass in Sweden, Leon returned to the U.S. to pursue his MFA in glass fort he Rochester Institute of Technology. During this period, Leon was able to synthesize the Swedish glass techniques with his ideas of using the color spectrum and trapping air to create bubbles as a design element that continues to define his work. For the next 25 years Leon has been developing new ideas, techniques, and designs on hot glass. He has taught at RIT and Naples Mill Art School in Naples, NY, and conducted workshops throughout the country. Leon Applebaum’s work is represented in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, Washington, D.C., the Corning Museum of Glass, Corning, New York, and the Ajeto Glass Museum, in Novy Bor, Czech Republic, among many others. He shows in many galleries, both nationally and internationally. Leon currently resides with his family in Prattsburg, NY, at the Sahaj Glass Studio. In his textured series, Leon uses tools to manipulate the surface of hot glass creating an optically transformed piece. This very non-traditional approach to glass working allows for the exploitation of the transparent and reflective qualities of glass. In Leon’s contemporary sculpture series, he uses glassblowing as a means, not and end. Leon uses cooled blown pieces that are cut in elemental forms and assembles them using ultraviolet glue. This technical approach offers great freedom to explore and execute ideas that are not possible with hot glass. Leon’s sculptures use circular forms reflecting the cyclical nature of life. With eyes toward the future, Leon plans to focus his energy on sculptural glass.

Great cuff with no damage or significant wear.Los Ballesteros Jewelry - History This business was established in 1937 by Jalil Majul Ballesteros in Iguala, Mexico. He had been apprenticed in the art of silversmithing by his grandfather and father, and early on, he made jewelry with a filigree look. In 1941 he moved his workshop to Taxco and adopted styles that were more in line with the tourist pieces produced there.During the 1950s, piecework was farmed out to smaller family workshops in the Taxco area, and the pieces were marked Talleres de los Ballesteros. These pieces were sold in shops throughout the country, including Mexico City and Acapulco. The company also began exporting jewelry in 1952.A modernized corporate version of Los Ballesteros continues to sell its products, both jewelry, and decorative giftware, through stores in Mexico as well as through other vendors worldwide. The company’s commitment to quality in honor of their heritage is strong, and they are still using the traditional Talleres de los Ballesteros stylized B logo in their branding.

Large Manuel Weahkee Zuni Turquoise, coral sterling bolo tie. Very substantial bolo with no issues. Tips have loops to hang danglies if wanted.Manuel and his family live north of the Zuni reservation. He is the grandson of Willie Weahkee who was the brother of Teddy Weahkee. Teddy was the father of Edna Leki, grandfather of Dinah (Gasper) and Lena (Boone). When Manuel married Sharon,he moved north to live near her family to raise his own family. Even so, the Weahkee's retained strong ties to Zuni and returned to the Pueblo often for family gatherings, ceremonies and dances. Manuel carves primarily bears though there are other animals in his repertoire. He routinely uses feathers in his bundles which is unusual by today's standards among Zuni carvers but Manuel does it in homage to a friend who was a Hopi elder. When this gentleman passed away, Manuel, in the Hopi tradition, began to use feathers in his bundles. This showing included two standing bears, which we hadn't seen him carve before, as well as the inclusion of quartz crystals points in the offering bundles.Marked or unmarked as shown in pics, weight and other measurements in pics.
