sale - www.estatefreshaustin.com Estate Fresh Austin 15th/16th century vellum antiphonal leaf 2
15th/16th century Vellum Antiphonal leaf. This is on Vellum/hide. There are some tears but it's stable in the frame. For some weird reason there is clear tape on the back of the glass and a little on the front, possibly they taped the two panes together and over time the tape degraded a little, still it displays well. Slightly illuminated in the picture shown. 22.5" x 16" framed. The origins of liturgical music traditionally date back to St. Gregory the Great (d. 604), who was inspired by the Holy Dove to record the principles of 'Gregorian' chant. The Gradual contained the musical parts of the Missal and was sung from the steps (gradus) of the altar. The Antiphoner contained the musical sections of the Breviary. These terms have become interchangeable in modern times. Because of their size and complexity, these manuscripts were still being handmade in the traditional way for centuries after the introduction of printing. They were boldly hand-written and illuminated on large sheets of sturdy vellum so that the entire choir could read from one book.

16" c1900 Wilhelm Schiller Austrian Majolica Vase 11.75" wide with handles. X 15 7/8" tall. No cracks, chips, or restorations.Wilhelm Schiller began production of porcelain and earthenware in Bodenbach, Bohemia in 1829, operating under the name of Schiller and Gerbing. In 1885, the firm was dissolved and renamed Wilhelm Schiller and Son and remained in operation until the onset of World War I. It is unknown whether the firm of Schiller and Gerbing produced majolica, but the firm of Wilhelm Schiller and Son is clearly the most prolific of the Bohemian manufacturers of majolica. The color palette used by Bohemian majolica makers including Schiller is much more subdued than that of their Staffordshire counterparts. The background of many Schiller pieces is of a matte-finished taupe, light gray or turquoise with glazed surface features in various shades of brown and black. The interiors are usually glazed in turquoise. Much of the firm’s production reflects the transition from traditional Victorian majolica to the Art Deco style. The most common Schiller pieces are decorative vases, jardinieres, table centers and ewers. No examples of Schiller majolica plates, bowls or other functional table-wares are known.Wilhelm Schiller and Sons majolica was marked with the letters ‘WS&S’ that was either impressed or contained within a raised cartouche.

No issues whatsoever.Georg Jensen, (born August 31, 1866, Raadvad, Denmark—died October 2, 1935,
Copenhagen), Danish silversmith and designer who achieved international
prominence for his commercial application of modern metal design. The simple
elegance of his works and their emphasis on fine craftsmanship, hallmarks of
Jensen’s products, are recognized around the world.

Jensen was apprenticed to a goldsmith at age 14. His artistic talents were
briefly focused on sculpture, but he returned to metalwork, primarily jewelry
and silver pieces, produced in the workshop he opened in Copenhagen in 1904.
Jensen exhibited his works at several major foreign exhibitions (winning a gold
medal at the Brussels Exhibition of 1910) and quickly built a reputation as an
outstanding and highly original silversmith. He moved to a larger workshop in
1912 and acquired his first factory building in 1919.

Jensen’s silverware achieved immediate popularity and commercial success. He
was, in fact, the first silver maker to realize a profit from the manufacture of
modern silver. Until Jensen’s time virtually all successful silverware producers
had relied on a standard repertory of popular traditional designs. Jensen,
however, found that the market for his sleek, simple pieces was larger than
anyone had predicted. His firm grew rapidly, expanding throughout Europe and
opening branches in London and New York City. On both continents Jensen’s work
set trends for contemporary tableware. He was among the first designers to
fashion steel—formerly considered fit only for low-quality, inexpensive
flatware—into handsome, serviceable cutlery.

16.5" Polia Pillin(1909-1992) Mid century Modern California Art Pottery Bowl
late 1940's-50's. Exceptional early heavily potted Pillin piece just discovered
estate fresh. Bought from Polia for $75, I'm thinking the 101 on the tag
indicates it was likely her 101st piece made. This is a really big bowl with
typical crazing and 3 of the tiniest glaze flakes on the outside rim. No cracks,
chips, or restorations.

Polish-born Polia Pillin (1909-1992) and her husband William established their
ceramic studio, The Pillin Art Pottery Company, in their Los Angeles, CA garage
in 1948. Her husband shaped and glazed the pots that became canvases that Polia
used to paint fanciful scenes of people and animals in the mid-century style.
Thousands of pieces were produced and Polia became one of the most highly
regarded of contemporary studio potters today.

The clay used for Pillin pottery was typically red-brick in color. William
experimented with different glazes and produced some pieces without Polia’s
artwork. However, it was Polia’s artistic designs that garnered her
international recognition. Polia was inspired by the Cubism movement and by the
works of Pablo Picasso whom she greatly admired. Her style is often referred to
as “Byzantine”. Polia’s favorite subjects were women, horses, birds, fish and
other animals painted over colorfully rich glazes. The overall pallet had an
organic, jewel-toned quality.

Each piece of Pillin pottery was hand-thrown, glazed, painted and hence, unique.
Because Pillin worked from her garage (and in her kitchen when she lived in
Chicago), she did not have access to expert tradesmen, chemists or specialized
equipment that could mass produce her work. For that reason, most Pillin pottery
is highly crazed. Rare pieces with little to no crazing command higher values.

Most pieces of Pillin pottery were produced beginning in 1948 and marked on the
bottom with Polia’s signature “Pillin” in either thick or thin black ink. Rare
pieces produced in her Chicago kitchen in 1946 and 1947 are incised “46” or
“47”. Some very early pieces are marked “W+P” above the Pillin signature to
indicate William throwing the pieces and Polia decorating them. Thicker thrown
pieces tend to indicate earlier works.

18" Konstantino 18k gold and sterling station necklace 18" long 21.5 grams, clean with no issues. Center parts are 18k gold on one side and 18k gold on toggle.Konstantino was born in Filiadona, a small village located in the heart of Greece, where the Ancient city of Melitea once stood. There, he watched his father closely as he worked on the farm, building machines and tools of his own, developing a great appreciation for the art of hand craftsmanship, history and archaeology. As a young boy, Konstantino would uncover broken ancient ceramics, coins and marbles in the fields, sparking a profound connection to his heritage.1978: A musical influence Following his love for music, Konstantino became a disc jockey in the city of Athens, collecting everything from jazz, blues and rock ‘n roll, to folk music from around the globe. Musical legends and artists inspired a stylistic fluidity that introduced an essence of glam rock to the scene. Konstantino began curating his own aesthetic identity as a creative mind, artist and style icon. Influencing what would become the rule breaking spirit that drives the design team at Konstantino to this day.1983: Jewelry saved my life Konstantino fled the music scene of Athens in search of an oasis, he took a weekend trip to the island of Hydra where he ended up living for the next 15 years. It was on this magical island that he fell in love with jewelry, collecting and curating collections of his own, whereby in 1988 the first Konstantino store opened.1991: Annette Hydra is not only the birthplace of Konstantino’s love for Jewelry but is also where Konstantino met his soon to be wife and creative partner, Annette. Together, from the ground up, Konstantino Jewelry soon established its presence in the United States and global market.1998: Global Impact As the admiration and desire for the Konstantino brand spread, the dream continued to grow, where now our designs can be found in many countries globally. With the addition of a longstanding presence in stores across the United States, Konstantino is honored to represent an evolution of the Grecian style, to the world of fine jewelry lovers.2016: A Family Future Konstantino and Annette’s children, Julian and Phaedra joined the team, further continuing the legacy of passion and risk for the craft of gold smithery and design. This new generation leads with knowledge, humility and a natural instinct for the dynamic of the Konstantino brand. Preserving the brand’s core philosophies and expanding on its already established style, is a challenge that’s been taken on with confidence.

These have great painting and strong embossing, the feet are
really great.

Following the death of his father Josiah Spode II in 1827, Josiah Spode III kept
a watching brief over the Spode works. Incapacitated by an unfortunate accident
at the factory in 1802, he was unable to engage in the day to day business. On
his death in 1829 the executors administered a long standing agreement which saw
William Taylor Copeland running the London retail business as well as holding
one quarter share in the factory. At the termination of the agreement on March
1, 1833, Copeland purchased the remaining shares in the factory and the London
business. Being greatly involved in in politics, in developing art school
education, and living the life of a well to do London gentleman, Copeland
engaged one of his senior London employees as a partner and Thomas Garrett took
responsibility for overseeing the smooth running of the Stoke factory.

The factory grew in size during this partnership and the production of
porcelain, earthenware, and stoneware continued. New shapes were added and
patterns and designs were influenced by the rococo revival that dominated
fashions in the 1830s. Copeland & Garrett's bone china and felspar porcelain
attracted the attention of highest echelons of society, and after her Majesty
Queen Victoria's accession to the throne in 1837, she acquired wares for both
Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle. Despite the prominence of their porcelain
productions they continued to make earthenware in even larger quantities with
markets at home and abroad. Among their finest productions are the printed
patterns some of which were traditional designs from Spode's time and other
newer patterns introduced for the contemporary market.

After 14 years, in 1847, the partnership was dissolved and Garrett returned to
London while Copeland continued to run the business.
tw221
