Jared Chavez Santo Domingo modernist sterling Link bracelet. 7" long x 1 1/6" wide x 75.1 grams. Does have a scratched signature JJC-00 on reverse side. Jared J. ChavezI began my journey as an artist learning to craft jewelry from my father, Richard I Chavez, a renowned lapidary artist. I was not given exact direction as to what to make but was only given the tools and instruction on how to use them. Along the way my work would be critiqued by my father and I would continually strive to evolve my designs and fabrication processes. He stressed the quality of the design and construction making sure that every aspect of a piece looked “finished” and no corners were cut. Along with all that I learned in my father’s studio, I would receive a Bachelor of Arts from Georgetown University in Studio Arts with a focus in Digital Art and Printmaking. After I graduated, I would attend The Revere Academy of Jewelry Arts’, Intensive Bench Jeweler Program in San Francisco. Each of these educational experiences added a particular technical or visual aspect to my work and would encourage me to continue to explore all the ways I could enhance my designs. My current work focuses on the reflective nature of polished silver. Though fabrication, metal stamping, and some casting, I explore how light and reflection interacts with the materials I utilize. I’ve found that polished silver takes in the colors and the light of the world around, and through the use of surface texture a dynamic play of light is created across the surface of my designs. I further enhance my work thought the use of semi-precious stones (agates, quartzs, jades, etc.). However one of the most important qualities in my selection of stones is often translucency. I’ve found that by allowing light to shine though a stone an overall rich and warm effect is created in the overall design. Along with my yearly schedule of shows where I sell my designs, I’ve also made it a point to educate the public about my work. Growing up in my father’s studio, I always saw just how much of himself he put into his designs and how sometimes he was met with disbelief as to how much work was put into his pieces. I found this to be a similar case when I entered the business, as the general public only sees the finished piece. For that reason, though in person demonstrations and self-produced video mini-documentaries, we’ve made it a point to show the skill, time, and passion that goes into every design. I continually strive to evolve my work and hold every design to the exacting standards that my father established when he created Chavez Studio 50 years ago.All precious metals are tested and guaranteed, any Native American jewelry<br>referred to as Silver or Sterling is guaranteed to be a minimum of 90% (coin)<br>silver and possibly higher content. Child labor laws kept the<br>young man from working as a craftsman, but after World War I he was old enough<br>to be hired as a designer for an important jewelry firm. In 1924 he contracted<br>tuberculosis, and the firm sent him to a sanatorium in Santa Fe, New Mexico.<br>Patania was seduced by the active art colony and healthy climate, and chose to<br>remain in the Southwest even after his health improved. His work reflects both<br>his European training and his exposure to Pueblo and Navajo jewelry.<br><br>The legacy left by Frank Patania, Sr. came from the integration of two<br>distinctly different traditions-one European, and the other Native American. On<br>the one hand, Frank Sr. drew from a long history of Italian creative spirit,<br>combining technical expertise and artistic imagination. He instilled in his<br>family the Italian commitment to fine craftsmanship, as well as the Italian<br>custom of family corporate bonding.<br><br>This uniquely Italian tradition can be traced back as far as the Renaissance,<br>and provides a structure in which each member of an artisan family has a job to<br>perform that contributes to the family enterprise. This familial check and<br>balance system has been a powerful asset to the Patania family's continued<br>standard of excellence through the years. But Frank Sr.'s style was drastically<br>transformed when he was introduced to the work of southwest Native American<br>jewelers in the 1920s.<br><br>His inspiration was multi-faceted; he began to work in a new medium-silver and<br>turquoise-as well as in increased scale, and using new techniques. The<br>successful marriage of these two disparate traditions has become the foundation<br>upon which each generation has maintained the tradition of excellence in<br>craftsmanship and design that has come to be known as the "Patania Thunderbird"<br>style.

Fantastic ring signed David SM Allende. Sz 6.5 1 1/8" face. 14.5 grams. High quality sterling and turquoise ring with no issues. Davíd ínez became one of the most interesting and innovative silversmiths and jewelers in San Miguel de Allende. Today, he is a master of his craft. Watching him work, you can see his confidence in the sureness of his hand, the familiarity with which he handles his tools. "You have to be very relaxed to make jewelry, very comfortable with yourself," he claims. "And you can't be in a hurry."He says he's never sure how a piece will turn out when he starts. He doesn't draw his pieces in advance. His work is all freestyle. "Sometimes I don't have any idea. I put some nice music on and let it guide me."His designs come from his head and his heart. "Most of the time, the stone tells you what it wants to be," he explains. "Then you just have to provide it." The results are fresh, different. People familiar with his work can often look at a case full of jewelry, point to one piece and say "That's a Davíd ínez design."No two pieces are ever exactly alike, though sometimes he'll see a copy of a piece he's made. "If people steal my designs, well, I'm glad to be an inspiration for them. It took me a while to get to that point. I used to get mad. Now, I just make something different."A San Miguel ArtistNow in his 40s, Davíd ínez has found his voice and his art. He lives with his wife Claudia and their daughter, Andrea, 8. He makes his jewelry, shares his skills with others. He now teaches in one-on-one sessions. Most of his students are Americans."First you learn the basics, how to make a clean bezel to hold the stone. You learn to work with sheet, wire, how to solder. But really it's all basic. What's a bracelet? It's a band. What's a ring? It's a band. Then you hammer it, burn it, melt it, stamp it. It's just metal. But the metal becomes alive by what you do to it."From papel mache painter to tinsmith to ditch digger to waiter to silversmith to consummate San Miguel artist, Davíd ínez has lived an adventure and arrived back home.
