Antique Guatemalan Chachal Rosary cross necklace Sterling silver 1899 coins trade bead necklace Tested and guaranteed solid sterling silver beads, 28" long very heavy antique necklace that has been restrung at one point. I saw a few coins with 1899 dates, did not check them all. The word "Chachal" in Quiche language means necklace. These beautiful objects have a fascinating tale of history, culture, art, and economics that begins during the Pre Columbian period hundreds-thousands of years ago and continues to the present where they still worn by many Mayan populations. Guatemalan necklaces use coins from Spain, as well as all of the Latin American countries that were once Hispanic colonies along with trade beads from bead centers in Venice, Bohemia/Czechoslovakia, England, & Spain.
