Clean frame with minor wear, no wear or<br>issues whatsoever with painting.<br><br>As a school boy, John B. Powers drew pictures of his classmates in the margins<br>of his assignment papers - not always to the delight of his teachers. But some<br>of them recognized and encouraged his early talent, and Powers, who was born in<br>Oklahoma in 1919 and has lived in Texas and the Southwest all his life,<br>successfully combined art with an engineering career. He is today a Registered<br>Professional Engineer turned full time Artist.<br><br>Powers stays busy painting for his many collectors in several states. His<br>pictures hang in Austin homes and in homes and offices in California, Arizona,<br>Oklahoma, Arkansas, Wisconsin, Ohio, Colorado and Washington, D.C. One of his<br>paintings has hung in the United States Senate.<br><br>As an environmental engineer, Powers knows the various moods of nature, their<br>awesome intensity and fierce powers. As a painter, however, he most often<br>prefers nature in gentle beauty and spreading color, with contrast in light and<br>color and with special emphasis on good composition.<br><br>The artist has traveled and painted throughout Texas, Colorado, Arkansas,<br>Oklahoma, Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, Nevada and California. Among favorite<br>scenes are Texas Hill Country, Yosemite National Park and Monterey Bay, Calif.,<br>the California, Arizona and New Mexico deserts, Big Bend National Park, Red Rock<br>Country, Arizona (Sedona) and Palo Duro Canyon.<br><br>Dr. Merlin Enabnit of Phoenix, the world renowned colorist, teacher, lecturer<br>and author with whom Powers has studied, has said this about his work: "The<br>paintings of John Powers are creations of rare beauty as they are not only<br>beautiful in color but also powerful in third dimension true living symbols of<br>nature."<br><br>Powers has studied also with the late A.L. Browning of California, well known<br>for his Rocky Mountain scenes, and with Wes and Roberta Speir of Austin and<br>Taos, N.M., western and landscape artists, and E.M. Moore, Austin landscape<br>artist.<br><br>He has attended seminars and demonstrations by many noted artists , among them<br>A.D. Greer and Dalhart Windberg of Austin, Edgar A. Whitney of New England and<br>Jose Vives Atsara of San Antonio.<br><br>His paintings have been exhibited in Austin, Texas at Fiesta; Little Rock,<br>Arkansas; Vail, Colorado and Prescott, Arizona.

Jolene Eustace (Cochiti/Zuni) 18k/14k/sterling Carved Turquoise, coral, and<br>shell necklace. Jolene is an extremely talented artisan, the galleries that<br>carried her work seem to be mostly out of stock. I believe she has always been<br>quality over quantity, producing a very limited amount of jewelry as you can<br>tell she invests a lot more time/skill/money into her pieces than a large<br>percentage of todays Native American artisans'. Amazing piece as shown. Bottom<br>piece has 18k, 14k, and sterling(marked and tested), two side pieces 14k and<br>sterling. Approximately 17" total length, 144.6 grams total weight.<br><br>Jolene A. Eustace-Hanelt is respected as a master jeweler. She comes from a<br>family of jewelers and potters. She grew up helping her parents. In a cover<br>story for Indian Artist Magazine, Jolene shared: "I was eight when I made my<br>first piece. I got an order to do 100 tie tacks...That was over 100 bucks." She<br>bought a 10 speed bike with the money. She added, "Then I realized I could be<br>self-sufficient with my work as an artist...My work is my release. My work is my<br>meditation. It's a way of going back to Mother Earth." (Zuni/Cochiti, active<br>1985=-present: contemporary, gold, silver leaf, set stones jewelry, alabaster<br>sculptures)<br><br>(A note from Keishi Jewelers a retailer of her wearable art) Sharing our Keshi<br>"Jolene" story: Jolene is (obviously) quite a beautiful woman, and the staff of<br>Keshi commonly referred to her as "the jewelry dess." One day, someone fessed up<br>and told Jolene what she'd been nicknamed, and her reply was "I'm not the<br>jewelry dess, I MAKE jewelry FOR desses!" That response certainly endeared her<br>to us even more!<br><br>Jolene is a daughter of well-known artists Ben and Felicita Eustace. Ben, from<br>Zuni, was a jeweler who, in turn taught his Cochiti wife Felicita the art of<br>jewelry making. Felicita is also a potter, specializing in traditionally made<br>storytellers. The Eustaces passed their demand for quality on to their 13<br>children, including Jolene.<br><br>Jolene was educated at the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe. She<br>learned jewelry making from her parents and Hopi jeweler Duane Maktima. She has<br>been fabricating jewelry since the mid-80s.<br><br>Always seeking challenges, Jolene relocated to Essen, Germany in the mid-1990s<br>with her German-born former husband and infant son. Several times a week, she<br>commuted by train between her home and Europe’s renowned art school, the<br>Künstakadamie, in Düsseldorf. There she studied frawing and painting. Jolene is<br>a recipient of a fellowship from the Southwestern Association for Indian Arts<br>(SWAIA) and has worked with SWAIA’s mentor program, teaching jewelry techniques<br>to Native students.<br><br>Jolene’s jewelry is characterized by the quality of materials and its striking<br>individuality. She says, “Whoever said you have to play by the rules? I want my<br>jewelry to say something. It cannot be just jewelry. In my jewelry, design and<br>fabrication have to deal with personal experiences and traditional values<br>conflicting and collaborating with present society.”<br><br>Jolene’s parents once said to their children, “If you’re going to do jewelry at<br>tall, you have to do it our way, the right way.” It wasn’t the designs they were<br>talking about, it was the technical aspects of their work: setting stones,<br>welds, and engravings. From the time of their training, the Eustace kids learned<br>a respect for materials and techniques of their art.<br><br>Jolene’s hallmark is a stamped “JAE” and a trademark design which represents<br>sage that was designed by her Dad long ago.<br><br>Tribal Affiliation<br>Cochiti/Zuni<br><br>All precious metals are tested and guaranteed, any Native American jewelry<br>referred to as Silver or Sterling is guaranteed to be a minimum of 90% (coin)<br>silver and possibly higher content. Menu  Cart Home › WEC: Thoughts about Jewelry ›Jonette Jewelry Company aka JJ Jewelry Jonette Jewelry Company aka JJ Jewelry Posted by Laurie Zeiden on Aug 07, 2017 Jonette Jewelry Company, or JJ, was a Providence, Rhode Island company in business from 1935 through 2006. The name of the company wasn't always the same. Originally, the company, started by Abraham Lisker, was called The Providence Jewelry Company. Over the years, the company's name was changed to Lisker & Lisker and after a significant slow-down in production during the years of World War II, the company revamped and resurfaced as Jonette Jewelry.  JJ is known for it's novelty jewelry, including figurals and animal designs and its Christmas themed jewelry. In the 1980's, JJ produced two specialty lines: Artifacts, a line of novelty pins, and Santa Fe, a line of American western jewelry.  JJ jewelry is fairly easy to find in the secondary marketplace and prices can be very reasonable. The most recent pieces can usually be purchased even if you have a very tight budget making JJ a great value and an easy start to a costume jewelry collection.

Josuë Dupon (Belgian, 1864-1935) Art deco universal exposition Anvers 1930 medal

    1 in magazzino

Josuë Dupon (Belgian, 1864-1935) Art deco universal exposition Anvers 1930 medal 3 1/8" from side to side. Josuë Dupon | Belgian, 1864-1935 A talented and prolific sculptor whose work, which includes painting and graphics, is still far too little known. After successfully studying at the Roeselare and Antwerp Academies (1887), he received a gold medal for a monumental bronze, Samson killing the lion, in 1890. From that year on, his work appeared regularly in exhibitions at home and abroad. Although not an innovator, he worked in every genre and mastered every technique and material. He was one of the first in Belgium to carve statues in "Off White" (1893), including an exceptionally refined Diana which was bought by the Antwerp Royal Museum of Fine Arts, which also acquired his spectacular bronze Vulture defending its prey a year later. The career that the sculptor subsequently built brought him numerous important awards and an appointment as professor at the Antwerp Academy, as well as commissions for facade sculptures and monuments. Although Dupon did not play a very active part in clubs or associations, he developed into an authority who was associated with reliability and class. The installation of his life-size Camel Driver (1902) on the roof and of his two bronze bird groups at the entrance to Antwerp Zoo confirmed his reputation as a first-rate animal sculptor. The thoroughness with which he approached this specialised area from the beginning is unequalled by any other Belgian sculptor. There were few animal species that did not succeed in inspiring him, and of those that did, he was as faithful to their anatomical detail as he was capable of expressing their nature. It appears from this that Josuë Dupon was in every inch a realist whose technically faultless art, with his sense of the dramatic, his feeling for decorative complexity and his slight tendency towards idealizing, was in every way in keeping with a 19th century conception of art. To describe Dupon as the Belgian Frémiet (1834-1910) is in this light elucidating without implying anything derogatory to either of them. As a gifted specialist in depicting horses – as if we can talk of preferences in this thoroughbred animal sculptor – he created the remarkable equestrian sculpture of Pater C. Lievens in Moorslede (1930). Rather than attempting to provide an overview of his works, exhibitions and honours here, it seems more appropriate mention the telling fact that his pupils at the Antwerp Academy included leading sculptors such as A. Julian Lovato (1922-2018) Kewa Sterling Mediterranean coral concho belt 2.75" x 2" buckle, (9) 2.5" x 1 5/8" conchos. No isssues, I'll follow up with length and weight.Since 1948, the Southwest has offered the world distinctive and unusual jewelry of Julian Lovato. His work has the individual stamp of a creative craftsman, yet the tradition of the Native American Southwest is evident. Lovato express his own sophisticated modern designs in handmade sterling silver and gold jewelry and objects of art. Coral and turquoise are the traditional gemstones of the Southwestern Indian, "the most valuable thing to possess, something to treasure, the way people want to have a diamond no matter what price," Lovato explains. He designs each piece of jewelry around the stone, selecting the finest turquoise and coral available.Lovato's love of turquoise goes back to his childhood: Santo Domingo Pueblo is renown for turquoise bead making and silversmithing. His father and grandfather both worked with turquoise. Upon his father's death, Lovato got a job at age thirteen cutting stones at Maisels in Albuquerque. Later, he spent several years with a similar operation in Kansas City. Then in 1948 he had the great fortune of becoming apprentice to the internationally distinguished Italian silversmith, Frank Patania.Patania came to Santa Fe in 1924. He brought with his a new sense of design elegance to Southwestern jewelry. During his years at Patinia's Thunderbird Shop in Santa Fe, Lovato was responsible for the silver monogram that became the Thunderbird specialty: contemporary buckles, cufflinks, brooches and rings. Patania and Lovato also made sterling silver pitchers, bowls, teapots and trays.Whereas most traditional Native American jewelry is flatwork, either stamped or overlay, Lovato has adopted the techniques and design elements learned from Patania into what he calls a raised or dimensional jewelry design. Lovato's bracelets curve not only along it's length, but also softly across the width. The bezels hold the stones elevated from the surface, so that the turquoise or coral stones appear to float above the surface. The effect of suspension contrasts with the second characteristic of Lovato's style- a deliberate look of weight in the metalwork. Lovato uses substantial sheets of sterling silver and gold, giving an importance to the metal work. However, the exquisite balance and craftsmanship belie the weight of the metal.Julian Lovato combines tradition and innovation, and the permanence of metal and stone with the elusive grace and beauty of design in works of art which will endure. "I have strong feelings about the things I do. I'd like to leave something behind someday when I am gone. Something that people can remember me by, something that is worthwhile. I'd like somebody to think of me as a silversmith whose work can be treasured. I think my work can speak for itself."All precious metals are tested and guaranteed, any Native American jewelry referred to as Silver or Sterling is guaranteed to be a minimum of 90% (coin) silver and possibly higher content. Anything marked is guaranteed to be what it's marked, most bracelets are photographed on a 6" wrist (non hairy), rings photographed on the appropriate sized finger when possible. With bracelets if the measurement is not given in the description then inside circumference is shown where the metal meets the number on the the cloth tape measure.

When he sits down to make a piece, the exact pattern of the inlay comes as he places one stone at a time and the piece takes on a life of its own. Many of the pieces in his inlay process take on the texture, feel, and look of a village, particularly multi-storied Taos Pueblo. Together, from<br>the ground up, Konstantino Jewelry soon estab- lished its presence in the US and<br>global market.<br><br>1998: Global Impact<br>As the admiration and craze for Konstantino spread, the dream continued to grow,<br>where now our designs can be found in 10 countries globally. With the addition<br>of a longstanding presence in Neimans, Sax, etc. etc. Konstantino is proud to<br>represent an evolution of the Greek style to the world of fine jewel- ry lovers.<br><br>2016: A Family Future<br>Konstantino and Annette’s children, Julian and Phaedra joined the team, further<br>continuing the legacy of love, risk, and passion for gold smithery and design.<br>This new generation leads with humility, knowledge and a natural instinct for<br>the dynamic of the Konstantino brand. Preserving the core philoso- phies of the<br>brand and expanding on its already established style, is a challenge that’s been<br>taken on with confidence.
