In their own words...We are Raymond and Dorothy Kyasyousie and are from the village of Hotevilla. We both started Hopi Overlay jewelry at different times with slightly different styles.Raymond started in 1975 while employed at the Hopi Craft Gallery under the instruction of Glen Lucas and for the past 37 years has devolved a unique style featuring Ko-ya–la (Hopi clown), wild life and full figure katsina scenes as well as the traditional geometric design in silver and gold. I, Dorothy started in 1994 with contemporary abstract designs using a variety of stones such as turquoise, lapis, amethyst, garnet, coral, and quartz crystals. Since becoming comfortable with cutting silver, I have expanded into overlay jewelry incorporating both styles. Both Raymond and I have had a great demand in doing clan related symbols and have since been creating a somewhat different type of contemporary Hopi overlay design.

Wichita jewelry designer Dina Huntinghorse incorporates a blend of traditional and contemporary jewelry techniques to create masterful works of wearable art. Although gold and silver work is rarely seen among the tribes of the Great Plains, Dina‘s life experiences introduced her to the craft, and inspired her to develop her own unique style.Raised in southwestern Oklahoma, Dina‘s first love was of horses, and she learned to reproduce their likeness in pencil sketches and paintings. She was later taught the traditional art of beadwork by an aunt, and became known for her beaded deerskin purses. In 1989, her interest in jewelry was piqued when her late husband, Navajo jeweler Herbert Taylor, taught her to cut beads and do inlay work. Dina began making jewelry on her own in 1996. Her work is featured in galleries throughout the southwest, and she is a regular participant at the Heard Museum Market and the Santa Fe Indian Market.Along with her respect for the horse, Dina is also known for her affection for the wolf. Patricia learned the fundamentals and technique jewelry making from her parents. Fortunately, Patricia learned inlay from her husband, Edward Becenti who worked for BG Mudd in the past years. Since Patricia learned the uniqueness of inlaying, she began to express a southwestern style and diamond shape in her articulate design. Having learned his skills from his accomplished father, Darren works in very similar materials: heavy gauged sterling, traditional turquoise and coral stones but reaches beyond to opals and other semi-precious stones as has his father.
