• c1940's Matl Cross pendant Sterling Turquoise Amethyst and coral

c1940's Matl Cross pendant Sterling Turquoise Amethyst and coral

    1 in magazzino

c1940‘s Matl Cross pendant Sterling Turquoise Amethyst and coral Designed by Matilde Poulat (AKA "Matl" (Aztec for "Water") who is & always will be one of my personal favorites that made her fame during the "Mexican Silver Renaissance Days" & later..She was a painter & designer 1st & was born in the Yucatan & later on went to study at the San Carlos Academy in Mexico City at the same time the famous muralist & husband to Frida Kahlo,Diego Rivera was studying there..One of her 1st teachers was a "P.OCHOA",a man whose works you rarely come across & you will find Matl‘s earliest works, emulating Ochoa‘s,which was nothing like the style she ended up owning. She opened shop in 1934 & ended up having her own ‘signature look",which to this day people still pay homage to her designs. She produced some of the most ornate jewelry that was being produced in Mexico back in the day..The inspirations she fell back on were inspired from the Mixtec people of Monte Alban, Oaxaca area. Each designer during the Mexican Silver Renaissance days had their own unique style, but it was Matilde, who brought the beautiful motifs of doves, flowers, and tiny bells that are reminiscent of the whimsical subjects of contemporary Mexican folk art...The beauty of her metal work, was so time consuming & was considered Baroque in style with a undeniably "Mexican"look.. She was known for laying round turquoise or coral cabochons all in one bezel that was then crimped‘ to hold the stones in,rather than setting them individually & you will see the perfect example of this style in this pin, which gives her piece‘s a whole different look, because of this. Another one of her signature styles was her time consuming ‘chasing‘ work in the metal,as well as using ‘pyramidal‘ cuts of amethyst.Every piece made are works of art..She is highly collectible!! She taught her nephew Ricardo Salas the art of jewelry making & taught him her style that was signature to only her & worked side by side her till her death in 1960 & while continuing to stay true & keep her style alive till his death in 2007.

Allison Lee - Navajo Sterling and turquoise pendant

    1 in magazzino

Allison Lee - Navajo Sterling and turquoise pendant. No issues, weight and measurements in pics. Allison "Snowhawk" Lee (1958 - 2022) was an award-winning artist from Mexican Springs, New Mexico. He was a full-blooded Navajo and is the third oldest of eight (four brothers and three sisters). Allison lived in Albuquerque, New Mexico with his three sons, Wyatt, Kyle and Trent. He enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting, fishing, hiking, and camping with his family. When there was a boom in Indian Jewelry in the early seventies, Allisons mother and uncle started making Squash Blossoms. At the young age of 14, Allison was asked by his mother to make a silver ring with a Turquoise stone. He made the ring well and so began his interest in jewelry making. Allison graduated from Tohatchi High School, during the summers he worked at various silver shops in the Gallup area, where he perfected the methods of silversmithing from the top silversmiths in the shops. Allison began competing in juried art shows back in 1988 and continues this tradition of competition throughout his life. He received many top awards, such as: Best of Division at the Santa Fe Indian Market, the George C. West Memorial Award for Excellence in Silver Jewelry (which he has won three years in a row), and at Indian Market in Santa Fe, NM. Allison was asked to join in on making a piece for the millennium sampler concha belt along with twelve renowned Indian Market jewelers. He was very honored to be chosen to participate in this collaboration. The proceeds of this auction benefited the Southwestern Association for Indian Arts (SWAIA). Sadly, Allison passed away in June of 2022. He will be greatly missed, but his legacy will live on in his sons‘ beautiful jewelry. • Nelson Garcia - Kewa Sterling and high grade turquosie pendant

Nelson Garcia - Kewa Sterling and high grade turquosie pendant

    1 in magazzino

Nelson Garcia - Kewa Sterling and high grade turquosie pendant. No issues, weight and measurements in pics. Nelson Garcia is a very competent silversmith that uses the best materials and does extremely clean/high end work as is hopefully evident here.

Nelson Garcia was born October sixth, 1955 in the village of Santo Domingo Pueblo, New Mexico. He was raised in a large family made up of four brothers and four sisters. One of the eldest, he matured early and with a good heart, shared in the responsibilities of his youth. From working in the fields with his brothers or watching the trade of his father, the seeds of perfection were sown.

His father, Joe Jay Garcia, was a silversmith with talents in traditional designs and Heishi necklaces. From studying his fathers workmanship more than a talent was formed. Nelson learned that any job can be completed but if not done correctly, it is a pointless task. In his grade school years he created his first works. Buying silver from his uncle, he would make silver cones that are used as the ending tips to a Heishi necklace. Once completed, he would walk throughout the village selling his silver cones to the many artists. Who knew that these elements would lay foundations to greater achievements in the years to come.

After high school Nelson said farewell to the comforts of home and in 1974 moved to Phoenix, Arizona. In school and full of optimism, he would begin the next chapter to his life. He started working in a local jewelry store as a silversmith. Once again studying his surroundings, this experience would give him the momentum to go into business for himself. As time passed, like every man he would find his happiness. In 1975 he married his wife Helen, a Navajo from the Naakaii Dinee clan. A year later his first child was born, a daughter whom they would name Coreen. To any business the early years define character and will. In 1983 with a newborn son, AAron, he decided to go into business for himself. With his creations packed and loaded into his car he drove to Page, Arizona for his first Art show. That Saturday he would make his first sale as an independent artist. Sadly, that would be his only sale for that day. One ring, in which he had to debate the price, but was finally sold. With a fresh fourteen dollars in hand, one would think dread would set in. Showing resilience he drove the next day to the Coconino center in Flagstaff, Arizona. This bold step would define his business ethic. He would attend this next art show with high hopes and patient hands. Driving home later that night with four-hundred eighty dollars in his pocket, his American dream had become a reality.

As the years have passed, Nelson has won many distinguished awards at some of the nations largest art exhibits. From the Santa Fe Indian Market to Red Earth in Oklahoma city. His jewelry has traveled into the heart of Europe with shows in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. He has formed relationships of trust with his many customers in the western world. Assured perfection in his work is what should be expected. Only selecting the finest stones and designing the most careful expressions. He lives a life of success in Phoenix to this day with his wife and family. All precious metals are tested and guaranteed, any Native American jewelry referred to as Silver or Sterling is guaranteed to be a minimum of 90% (coin) silver and possibly higher content. Because of this innovation, Tommy is considered by many as one of the greatest contemporary Indian jewelry silversmiths of our time. Even though he was world renowned, he worked on the Navajo reservation in a small studio surrounded with his family and other tribal members. The Singer family has been involved in silversmithing, stone and beadwork for a very long time, handing the art down from one generation to another. Tommy was a silversmith for over 50 years. He learned the art of silversmithing from his father when he was just 7 years old. His Father Tsinnigine Hathali was a Navajo Medicine man. Tommy incorporates many traditional sandpainting and rug designs of the Navajo People into his jewelry. Tommy began creating jewelry full-time at the age of 21. His early works were done in the silver overlay technique. His work soon began to feature Turquoise stones. While working with scrap turquoise chips, Tommy pioneered the technique of Chip inlay used by thousands of artists to this day. For many years Tommy and his brothers created Jewelry using the Chip inlay style. Later in life, Tommy had returned to his roots by creating Exquisite Silver Overlaid Jewelry with intricate designs. His current work often includes 14 Karat Gold Overlaid on Silver. Tommy also carved storyteller scenes and silver bead necklaces with tremendous skill. When asked about his work, Singer said, "Every piece is made with the various meanings from my traditional ways - the Navajo way of living. My father was asilversmith, too. He taught me, and wanted me to continue this trade. It was my father‘s dream that I learn to silversmith so that I could continue his beliefs." His work is well known internationally and is featured in a number of Indian art publications. One can easily recognize Tommys work. He marks his finished pieces with “T. Singer or with “T and a crescent moon. Whether Tommy created a bolo tie, buckle, ring, necklace, pendant, or bracelet, he stated that, “All my jewelry is made to satisfy my customer. Each piece is unique and is made very different. I try hard to make different styles and designs of my jewelry. His legacy of work will continue to live on for many years. In fact, Rosita (Rose) and the family have continued Tommys legacy by creating jewelry with his designs. Tommy and his wife Rose came up with a new hallmark before his death which is “T&R Singer. Once all of the items he made are sold, the family will be signing the new jewelry with the T&R Singer hallmark. His legacy of work will continue to live on for many years. All precious metals are tested and guaranteed. A Native American jewelry piece referred to as "silver" or "ingot" is guaranteed to be at least 90% silver. I rarely use the word "sterling" when referring to older Native American silver or really any older silver jewelry as silver contents vary and "sterling" is 92.5% silver. No older jewelry is going to be exactly 92.5% silver, some a little over, some a little under. It wasn‘t an exact thing with handmade jewelry. I‘ve seen thousands of pieces xrf‘d to prove this. Geraldine Yazzie Navajo Silver and turquoise cluster concho belt. 59" total length with no holes in 1" leather belt. New old stock condition, never worn, purchased for 6500k about 20 years ago. High grade turquoise, very high quality workmanship. 3" x 2.5" buckle, (10) 2.5" x 2" conchos. 670 grams. Geraldine Yazzie started creating beautiful silver jewelry in the late 80‘s. Learning from her mother, she supports her own family with her well-crafted belts and other forms. She resides on the Navajo reservation in the area of Smith Lake, New Mexico near Crownpoint, New Mexico. Geraldine is a Navajo silversmith in her early 50‘s who has been smithing silver for over thirty years. She is known for her Traditional Revival style jewelry. Geraldine‘s work is sometimes misrepresented as vintage, old pawn because her detailing is so like the work common to the middle of the twentieth century. She is also particularly adept in her manner of oxidizing her silver so that the patina seems to be due simply to age of the piece. In addition, she pays particular attention to using stamps of a bygone era and sometimes adds small nicks to her pieces to make them look as though they‘ve been worn for decades. 6.75" c1930‘s Navajo silver twisted wire green turquoise cuff bracelet. Bracelets are photographed on a 6" women‘s wrist.
