Vintage Santo Domingo turquoise and coral Jaclas
Vintage Santo Domingo turquoise and coral Jaclas. Great with natural
stones/shell from the third quarter of the 20th century, no damage or wear. 47.8
grams

A traditional Pueblo jewelry adornment, a jacla is two loops of heishi that were
originally earrings and sometimes fastened to the bottom of a stone necklace as
a pendant-like attachment.

Jacla is Navajo for “ear string”. The Navajo spelling is the most commonly used
version of the word. Jocla is also common but jackla is a phonetic mis-spelling.
Although jaclas are attributed to the Rio Grande Pueblo Indians, they were
traded with other tribes so have become associated with the Navajo as well. They
are seen in vintage photos being worn by members of all southwest tribes, both
men and women.

In the oldest style necklaces, the jacla is a pair of loop earrings tied onto
the necklace.

Darrin Livingston Navajo Sterling Fluorite pendant
Darrin Livingston Navajo Sterling Fluorite pendant. 2 7/8" tall x 7/8" wide x 18.8 grams with no issues, appears unworn.Darrin Livingston resides in Church Rock, New Mexico, where he has lived most of his life. He currently lives there with his family. Church Rock is where his father and grandfather are from also; this is where he learned his silversmith trade at the age of thirteen. He attended public high school, which he enjoyed, and after graduating he really got serious with the silversmith trade and earned a living from it. A hallmark of Darrin’s jewelry is how is how precisely each piece is constructed and finished. We call this how “clean” the workmanship is. The stones are evenly set into tight fine silver bezels. There are no sharp edges or other careless craftsmanship. His pieces are obviously the work of an artist who takes no shortcuts and whose care for quality of every piece that leaves his studio is professional and complete. From the simplest single stone pendant to the advance design and crafting of a mulit-stone dragonfly necklace, Darrin’s work reflect the best traditional of Navajo silver work and pride. All precious metals are tested and guaranteed,

MCM Sterling Pietra Dura Multistone Mosaic Inlay southwestern mountains pendant
MCM Sterling Pietra Dura Multistone Mosaic Inlay southwestern mountains pendant with Lapis, Coral, and other stones. A somewhat confusing piece made by an artist that seemed to be able to think for oneself and combine many styles but didn't care to sign such a work of art. A fantastic Mid century style to the silver mounting which I have no way of know is period or not, really good lapidiary work on a level that has never really been common in the US, but the scene sure reminds me of an Arizona mountain landscape. All hand done approaching micromosaic level. Tests sterling, completely unmarked. 29 grams 3.5" tall x 2.5" wide. This piece is really clean, there are some marks on the wings in the pics, they were residues of silver polish which I have removed.

Vintage Navajo Silver turquoise choker necklace
Vintage Navajo Silver turquoise choker necklace. This measures between 14.25" and 15.5" long with the extension cable. Center pendant with dangle is 2 5/8" tall x 7/8" wide, total weight 62.4 grams. I have no idea if it was originally for a child or a choker. I know it's really fantastic and old with great natural stones. When XRF tested the metal is 85.9% silver, 8.5% copper, 3.6% zinc, and .5% Iron, the other 1.5% is a mixture of gold and other minerals. I don't feel this was a piece made for commercial sale, this was an old piece that somebody likely made for someone important to them.
