c1900 WMF Vaseline Opalescent Glass Art Nouveau Centerpiece. No cracks, chips,or restorations, some oxidation to metal stand which I'm assuming is silverplate. I will remove the bowl from the base for shipping. 10.75" tall 10 5/8" wide bowl.In 1853, Daniel Straub, a miller from Geislingen, joined forces with the Schweizer Brothers to form the "Metallwarenfabrik Straub & Schweizer" in Geislingen. This was the second company to be founded by Straub - previously in 1850, from the nucleus of a small repair workshop, which he had set up to work on the construction of Geislingen's famous railway incline, he had founded the Maschinenfabrik Geislingen. This company was involved mainly in manufacturing mill turbines and traded throughout Europe. As early as 1862, the young company distinguished itself by winning a gold medal at the World Exhibition in London. In 1866, following the departure of the brothers Louis and Friedrich Schweizer, the company was renamed Straub & Sohn" (Straub & Son). The company showroom, built in 1868 in Berlin, gradually evolved to become the company's first retail outlet. Three years later, the company was already employing 60 workers. By 1880, the number of employees had grown to approximately 200 and the company was already producing 960 different items. 1880 saw the merger between Straub & Sohn and "Ritter & Co.", Esslingen, to form a public limited company under the name of Wurttembergische Metallwarenfabrik. At the time of the merger, Ritter & Co.'s Esslingen factory was already using the electroplating method of silver plating and had the more modern production facilities at its disposal. Straub's company, on the other hand, was the more profitable of the two.

Vintage Moorcroft columbine vase, mid 20th century 4.25" tall x 3" wide. No cracks, chips, or restorations, expected crazing. <br><br>William Moorcroft was employed by Staffordshire pottery manufacturers James Macintyre & Co. Ltd. as a designer in 1897, and after a year he was responsible for the company’s art pottery studio.<br><br>William Moorcroft created designs for the Macintyre’s Aurelian Ware range of high-Victorian pottery, which had transfer-printed and enamelled decoration in bold red, blue and gold colours. He also developed the art nouveau-influenced Florian Ware which was decorated entirely by hand, with the design outlined in trailed slip using a technique known as tubelining. William Moorcroft’s designs won him a gold medal at the St. Louis International Exhibition in 1904.<br><br>Each piece of pottery produced was personalised with Moorcroft’s own signature or initials.<br><br>William Moorcroft and James Macintyre & Co. Ltd. split up in 1913 and Moorcroft founded his own factory nearby. Some finance came from the famous London store Liberty, and Liberty continued to exercise control over Moorcroft until 1962.<br><br>Moorcroft’s reputation was further enhanced with the appointment of the Moorcroft company as Potter to HM The Queen in 1928. On the death of William Moorcroft in 1945, his elder son, Walter, took over management and design and he continued in this position until his retirement in 1987, after which he continued contributing to Moorcroft designs.<br><br>During the tenure of Walter Moorcroft, the Liberty store’s interest in Moorcroft was purchased by Moorcroft in 1962.<br><br>In the 1980s Moorcroft got into financial difficulties as a result of rising wages and fuel, which were exacerbated by the labour intensive techniques employed by Moorcroft and the company went through several changes in ownership with the result that from 1993 the company was controlled by the Edwards family, which is still the case.<br><br>The young 24 year old designer Rachel Bishop joined Moorcroft in 1993, as only its fourth designer in almost a hundred years and her designs become immediately popular. In 1997 the Moorcroft Design Studio was formed with eight designers, and with Rachel Bishop as head designer.<br><br>Moorcroft celebrated its centenary in 1997, marking the year that William Moorcroft joined MacIntyre as its founding date, rather than the year the company was founded.<br><br>Moorcroft is still producing art pottery in it’s own distinctive design style, and with astute promotion and limited edition designs, is selling more than it did in the mid-1920’s, its previous heyday.<br>isshelf

Huge 1920's Futura North Carolina Art Pottery Vase. Very nice, large piece of pottery. I've seen a considerably smaller version of this with one less step due to being 50% smaller attributed to Duck Teague this one is 11.5" tall x 7" wide slight glaze wear on top rim and flat base. No large chips, no cracks, no restorations. This Item was collected in 1978 in North Carolina, a pottery loving couple whom I'm currently selling stuff for took a trip to NC in 1978 and filled the truck up with pottery old and new at the time.I believe this to be an extremely rare NC pottery vase from the shop of Bryan "Duck" Teague, circa late 1920's. Duck Teague, along with his brothers, Charlie and Jimmy, operated the old shop located in Hemp (now called Robbins) NC. Teague's, along with the Auman's, and Cole's were among the earliest NC shops producing what the called "Fancy Wares", or as we call it today, Art Pottery. Sometime in the mid to late 1920's, the Teague's came out with a group of vase shapes that have since been dubbed "Futura", for the resemblance in geometric forms that are quite similar to some of Roseville's Futura line of 1928. So far, only 6 to 8 different shapes from this line have been documented.

I know it's absolutely amazing that the chain is all<br>agate links. I've seen agate chains before but they were always one link agate<br>then one link of gold or silver. It had to require amazing skill to make this<br>especially with the chain. It came from a really nice estate with all old stuff,<br>I think it's old, likely late qing to early Republic period. Pizzichillo & Gordon Studio Art Glass Vase 7.25" tall x 6.5" wide.No cracks, chips, or restorations.Bruce Pizzichillo and Dari Gordon are internationally known artists who create large, colorful handblown glass vases, sculptural vessels and bowls as well as intriguing glass and mixed media sculptures. Using glassmaking techniques that are thousands of years old, along with many of their own invention, Bruce and Dari melt glass in furnaces that are designed for work in multiple colors. They achieve a palette of distinctive colors by mixing various metallic oxide formulations containing gold, silver, cobalt and others, into the molten glass. They heat the raw materials in large ceramic pots inside a glass furnace at temperatures in excess of 2400 degrees Fahrenheit. As the molten liquid glass achieves a working temperature, the artists gather the fluid substance onto the end of a five foot long steel pipe or rod. They blow, manipulate and shape the mass of molten glass, constantly spinning it and dipping it back into the pot for additional gathers if the piece is exceptionally large. For decoration, they apply shards, frit, bits and strings of colored glass that they have pre-made to the hot surface of the glass, and then reheat the piece to fuse the elements to the surface. When they complete the blowing and shaping process, they remove the piece from the pipe and place it into an annealing oven, where it will cool slowly over a specific period. In general, the larger and thicker the piece, the longer the time required for it to anneal. If not properly annealed, the piece will shatter when exposed to room temperature. Finally, the artists inspect each piece to determine if it meets their standards for first quality. They then proceed with the finishing work, which can include cutting, grinding and polishing before signing the completed piece. Depending on the size and complexity of the piece, the artists may reject half the pieces they make, or more, for lacking the requisites of first quality. Bruce studied at the University of New Mexico and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in glass from the California College of Arts & Crafts, where he studied with world-renowned glass artist Marvin Lipofsky. It is found in either the rare original "shiny" finish or the more common<br>"satin" finish. It is used for table glass and small, ornamental vases and<br>dressing table articles.<br><br>It was made in 1885 by the Mount Washington Glass Company of New Bedford,<br>Massachusetts, USA. Burmese glass found favor with Queen Victoria. From 1886,<br>the British company of Thomas Webb & Sons was licensed to produce the glass.<br>Their version, known as Queen's Burmeseware, which was used for tableware and<br>decorative glass, often with painted decoration. Burmese was also made after<br>1970 by the Fenton art glass company.<br><br>Burmese is a uranium glass. The formula to produce Burmese Glass contains<br>uranium oxide with tincture of gold added. The uranium oxide produced the<br>inherent soft yellow color of Burmese glass. c1930 Huge Art Deco Signed Frosted Cut Glass Vase signed Helbert?. Strange and<br>wonderful piece of quality period art deco glass. I'm confdent this is 80-100<br>years old but I don't recognize the signature which is weird. It's a very large<br>piece 9.75" tall and wide. The decoration is hand cut, the flower centers are<br>applied glass, the signature appears to be hand engraved. This is a handmade<br>skillful work or art so I'm finding it very strange that I don't recognize the<br>signature or maker. No chips on the top, no cracks, minor wear to frosting on<br>base rim possibly during the making. It is high quality high lead crystal glass,<br>rings like a bell.<br>twshlf

This piece and two more I'm listing are from the Estate of Lael Cater Seagert UT Art Department and later Director of Laa Gloria Art Museum here in Austin so these were likely gifts from Soto as they had signed books from so many Texas Artists that were given to them as gifts.Piece measures 7 5/8" tall x 5.25" wide. No cracks, chips, restorations, or crazing. Below is an excerpt from the artists eulogy. Ishmael Soto, longtime Austin ceramicist and teacher, died Monday after a battle with cancer. He was 84.“Ishmael’s passing is a loss for us all in the community,” said Sylvia Orozco, director of Mexic-Arte Museum. “He was a great human being, teacher and artist. Ishmael was one of the first, if not the first Mexican-American Austinite to become a professional visual artist.”Artist and teacher Ishmael Soto died Feb. 27 at age 84. Contributed by Tahila MintzSoto won many prizes and was exhibited frequently in group and solo shows.A native Austinite, Soto earned his first degree from the University of Texas and his second from the famed Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan. His 57th Annual Potters Show and Sale took place in December 2016. He taught ceramics at UT for seven years — one of the first Hispanics to teach in the art department — then at St. Edward’s University and Austin Community College for a total of more than 30 years..“He was a modest, generous mentor and major inspiration to many artists,” said his widow, Cynthia Leigh. “He taught thousands of students over his lifetime. Many of his students decided to become artists from his encouragement and support. He did not try to mold his students to imitate his work; he encouraged them to follow their own artistic path and draw on their own talents.B26
