Frank Yellowhorse(1933-2020) Navajo sterling silver Multi-stone intarsia inlay
bib necklace. This is an older c1970's Frank Yellowhorse hallmark that is
misidentified by some as Frank Yazzie which makes no sense, this is obviously
Frank Yellowhorse's work. The legitimate galleries have pieces with this
hallmark attributed to Frank Yellowhorse c1970's.
Side arms are 4" x 5/8" each, drop center is 2 1/8" x 1 3/8". Chain is approx
16", so 24" total length. 79.2 grams.

Frank Yellowhorse
NATIVE AMERICAN - DINÉ (NAVAJO), 1933 - 2020
Navajo artist and businessman Frank Yellowhorse (1933-2020). Yellowhorse was a
Korean War veteran, silversmith, and owner of the famed Chief Yellowhorse
Trading Post on Route 66 in Lupton, Arizona. Although the trading post started
in the 1950s, Frank and his brother learned to sell as kids, at their parents'
roadside stand offering Navajo rugs and petrified wood. Today if you google
"Frank Yellowhorse," chances are you will see a photo of him in traditional
Navajo attire, including headband and gray hair in a ponytail bun, and you might
even find a portrait of him painted by a fine artist who was smitten when
stopping in at the trading post. And most likely you will see his name
frequently mentioned in reference to having taught his award-winning son Alvin
how to make jewelry. Alvin is a multiple blue-ribbon winner at Santa Fe Indian
Market and is represented by major art galleries worldwide; Alvin's pieces
regularly sell for upwards of $9000! Indeed, Alvin had an amazing teacher in
father Frank, who was a renowned artist in his own right. While his jewelry
doesn't command quite at the same prices as son Alvin, the elder Yellowhorse's
works are highly collectible nonetheless.

sz6 Paul Livingston Navajo Sterling ber Turquoise Ring. 2" face x 36 grams, no
damage or significant wear.

Paul Livingston was born in 1954 and has spent his entire life on the Navajo
Church Rock Reservation, where he grew up watching with fascination as his
silversmith Uncle crafted raw metal and
stone into beautiful jewelry. Through trial and error and a great deal of help
from his Uncle, Paul became an accomplished young jewelry maker.

By the time he was twenty-two he was ready to launch himself full time into
silversmithing. Paul Livingstonis an acclaimed Navajo silversmith who favors
substance in his metal work and high-quality, natural stones in all his
settings.

Today, nearly forty years later, Paul is a nationally known and collected
jewelry artist. He is particularly known for a style of jewelry most
silversmiths shy away from a technique known as ‘cluster and row work’ where
multiple tiny stones are used together to form a delicate, colorful designs in
jewelry. Paul is happy to work with the little stones, even the tiny round
“snake eye” ones and is renowned for how exquisitely aligned the stone clusters
and rows of stones are on his pieces.

Even at his age Paul continues to experiment with new jewelry techniques and
design styles. He especially enjoys working unusual textures created on metals
and will often incorporate a new surface
finish or other design application to see if these changes might enhance the
jewelry’s appearance and appeal. Though his forte has always been more
traditional even vintage looking Navajo style jewelry, his
contemporary designs are also in high demand. Paul Livingston creates beautiful
jewelry using stones that aren’t often found in Native American jewelry. The
intricate ‘saw work designs’ of his pieces are especially difficult to achieve
but so very visually appealing in Paul’s finished work.

6.5" 1982 Bill Derrevere Southwestern sterling cuff bracelet

Bill Derrevere is a metalsmith, jeweler and Associate Professor of Art at Tulsa
Community College who works primarily in metal – pewter sculptural works as well
as silver jewelry. Of pewter, he states, “To work in pewter is to rediscover and
reshape traditional techniques for use in making artistic statements which are
contemporary and alive. This leads to the invention of new concepts and forms,
and to the use of unusual combinations of materials.” As for jewelry making, he
says, “I construct a large portion of my jewelry out of sheet or wire. I also
cast much jewelry using the lost wax method. I enjoy the manipulation of the
metal or the wax because this allows my personal attitude to project from the
jewelry. If the metal hasn’t gone beyond what it was when it was purchased from
the smelter, then it hasn’t received a new spirit. That spirit is what I hope my
abilities as a metalsmith allow my work to convey to anyone who sees it.”

All precious metals are tested and guaranteed, any Native American jewelry
referred to as Silver or Sterling is guaranteed to be a minimum of 90% (coin)
silver and possibly higher content.
