Eugene Laforet(1884-1955) American Horse Coach and Market Scene American Oil on Canvas. 9" x 12" in a 13.5" x 16.5" frame with no significant issues. Here is an article written about him in New Yorker Magazine on 10/28/1944: THE TALK OF THE TOWN ART FOR EVERYBODY BY EDITH HAMBURGER AND PHILIP HAMBURGER Talk story about Eugene La Foret, the only artist in town who paints in full view of the public in his own store, in which he sells his creations, usually hot off the easel. He owns and runs the Studio Store, on the west side of Lexington Avenue, just below 57th. At the time of our interview he was painting a country lane with a barn in the background, which, he said a man had ordered for Saturday. "One dollar down and nine on delivery," he said. A woman came in and asked if her still life was ready. It was and she paid two fifty for it. His oils range in price from two dollars for miniature still lifes to five hundred for more ambitious canvases. Mr. La Foret received his training in Europe: Berlin, Paris and Munich. Thanks

Eva Etstate Zuni Channel inlay sterling turtle pin. Considerably bigger than most you will find. 2" x 1.25" x 7.7 grams, no issues. All precious metals are tested and guaranteed. A Native American jewelry piece referred to as "silver" or "ingot" is guaranteed to be at least 90% silver. I rarely use the word "sterling" when referring to older Native American silver or really any older silver jewelry as silver contents vary and "sterling" is 92.5% silver. No older jewelry is going to be exactly 92.5% silver, some a little over, some a little under. It wasn't an exact thing with handmade jewelry. I've seen thousands of pieces xrf'd to prove this. Bracelets are photographed on a 6" women's wrist.

Federico Jimenez sterling turquoise discs necklace

    Out of stock

Federico Jimenez sterling turquoise discs necklace 20" long, weight and measurements in pics. No issues, solid sterling. Vintage, retired, if not one of a kind design. Federico Jimenez Federico comes from the tiny village of Tututepec, Mexico. When he was 12 years old he accidentally set fire to a nativity set in his village. His family was pressured into sending him to live in the city of Oaxaca. When he returned to Tututepec in his late teens, Federico and his father were repairing the foundation of their home and uncovered a big pot. Inside was a pre-Columbian Mixtec Indian pectoral (a chest ornament) with strands of gold, turquosie and shell that had been secretly buried by his family. Later when he worked for the Anthropological Museum he learned that the village had once been the kingdom of the Mixtecs and his great-grandfather had probably been their chief. During his years in Oaxaca he developed an appreciation for antiques. After finding the pectoral he became interested in collecting antiques and started going village-to-village searching for more. He started collecting jewelry and Indian costumes. A few years later he met his future wife who was with a group of American anthropologists. She said, "If you love me, you‘ll follow me". So he followed her to Los Angeles where he hit all the big swap meets, buying, selling, trading and building his inventory. He also built up a private collection of Mexican jewelry that he claims is now the world‘s largest as it incorporates pieces from contemporary, colonial and pre-Columbian periods. He organizes exhibitions and acquires items for UCLA‘s Museum of Cultural History and the National Folk Art Museum in Santa Fe. He displays many pieces of his jewelry in the Anthropological Museum in Mexico City. All precious metals are tested and guaranteed, any Native American jewelry
referred to as Silver or Sterling is guaranteed to be a minimum of 90% (coin)
silver and possibly higher content. Fidel Bahe Navajo for Rocking Horse Ranch Tufa Cast sterling belt buckle

    Out of stock

Fidel Bahe Navajo for Rocking Horse Ranch Tufa Cast sterling belt buckle. Solid sterling silver, marked as shown. Weight and measurements in pics. Born in 1949 and raised in Seba Dalkai area, Fidel Bahe is the firstborn of eight children--two sisters and five brothers. Fidel began silversmithing at age 24, focussing on traditional Navajo designs with his own creative flair. In 1976, Preston Monongye took Fidel in as an apprentice and taught him the fundamentals and techniques to become a great jeweler. After ten months of apprenticeship, Fidel showed his jewelry at Santa Fe Indian Market, winning ribbons for all of the pieces he entered. The art of jewelry-making was originally just a hobby for Fidel Bahe. After learning the basics of his craft, he apprenticed with Victor Beck and learned contemporary styling. Charles Loloma was also an inspiration and critic of his work, giving Fidel advice to help lead his art in a new direction. While attending welding school Fidel met his close relative Wilson Jim who worked at Rocking Horse Ranch with Edison Smith. Jim and Smith taught Bahe the basics about traditional art and techniques including stamp work. During this time, Fidel was inspired to put traditional designs back into his pieces. Since then, Fidel has focussed on quality, consistency, uniqueness, and cultural and artistic values. Of the inspiration behind his imaginative work, he says “it hits you right between the eyes. Over the years, Fidel Bahe entered many pieces at Santa Fe Indian Market, winning ribbons every year until 1991 when he won three first-place and two second-place ribbons before deciding not to return to the competition. Fidel feels his pieces are seen as finished and refined traditional work in the first and second phases of Navajo jewelry. After an accident that injured his eye, Fidel learned the art of natural horsemanship and training foals. He now spends equal time between the arts of jewelry and horsemanship. For Fidel, his two passions come together as one, each embracing the six keys -- attitude, knowledge, tools, technique, time, and imagination. Fidel Bahe‘s grandson, Sage Nunez, has followed in Fidel‘s footsteps and makes beautiful jewelry as well.

Frances Holmes Boothby (19192000) created unique modernist jewelry for nearly four decades, from the mid-1940s to the early 1980s. In addition to traditional modernist geometric and abstract designs, she made unique, whimsical pieces inspired by cartoons, including the Bird and Animal series. Working primarily in sterling silver, Frances sometimes used gold, brass, wood, resin, natural stones, pearls, and glass. She signed her pieces with the capital letters STERLING and the lowercase initials fhb. Undoubtedly, Frances Holmes Boothby made a significant contribution to the American wearable art movement through her exhibitions and teaching of jewelry making. For example, in 1948, she first presented her work at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis. As early as 1955, she opened a studio in New York where she created her jewelry and taught jewelry making. According to 1958 newspaper ad, Frances Holmes Boothby exhibited her jewelry at New York State Fair. Later, Frances handcrafted jewelry in her Silver Workshop in Weston, Vermont, where she was active until the early 1980s. Frances Holmes Boothby died at the age of 80 in Sedona, Arizona. Made in limited quantities, today the artists works can be found both in the collections of lovers of modernist and vintage jewelry, and in national art galleries.

1 in stock

Fred Davis (1880-1961) large sterling and amethyst tulip flower pin 39.8 grams, other measurements in pics.Frederick W. Davis is known among collectors for his work as a jewelry
designer and silversmith based in Mexico City, Mexico. He began designing and
crafting jewelry and decorative objects in the 1920s. The wares he produced
often reflected his affinity for pre-Columbian artifacts. He occasionally
collaborated with Valentín Vidaurreta, another respected Mexican silver
craftsman with roots in Mexico City. Davis is credited as an avid promoter of
other silver artists, including William Spratling, who worked in Mexico from the
1920s through the 1950s. Frederick Davis Jewelry - HistoryDavis moved from the
United States to Mexico in 1910. Working as an assistant manager for the Sonora
News Company, he toured the country on buying trips to stock railway station
shops with native folk art for his employer. He established relationships with
many artisans during his travels, and his knowledge of Mexican crafts grew
extensively. His ardent work resulted in a promotion to manager of Sonora’s arts
and crafts showroom in Mexico City. René d’Harnoncourt, who later served as the
director of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, was employed by Davis in 1927
as an assistant. Their work together led to the company’s distribution and
exhibition of works by Mexican painters who are now well known, such as Diego
Rivera, among many others. During this era, Davis and d’Harnoncourt left an
indelible footprint on the trade of Mexican handcrafts, including silver
jewelry, from that point on. Davis took a position managing antiques and fine
crafts for Sanborn’s department store in 1933 after d’Harnoncourt moved to the
United States. He remained with the store for 20 years, where he continued to
promote Mexican art and artisans while designing and producing silver wares.
Davis died in 1961.
