Vintage Gaumers Sterling Tiger's Eye belt buckle - Red Bluff CA artist
Vintage Gaumers Sterling Tiger‘s Eye belt buckle - Red Bluff CA artist. Solid sterling silver, Marked as shown. Weight and measurements in pics. Nice buckle circa last quarter of the 20th century. Gaumers Jewelry has been in business since 1967. Founded in partnership between Al and Mabel Gaumer and their son John and his wife Terry, the business has continued to grow with the addition of a third generation of jewelers and rockhounds through Bill Gaumer. Gaumers carries a great selection of fine gold and silver jewelry, original hand-crafted jewelry, semiprecious and precious stones, lapidary equipment and jewelry-making supplies. The giftware portion of the business offers books, coasters, vases, unique decorative items and beautiful hand-crafted jewelry boxes. The Gaumer family interest in gems and minerals has been actively pursued for four generations as John O. Gaumer was a gold miner in Northern California for 25 years. His son Al continued the tradition with formal education in the field of mining engineering before returning to gold mining with his father and a lifelong pursuit of prospecting and rockhounding throughout the western United States. The family passion for rocks turned a hobby into a full time business when John and Terry decided to open a store utilizing the familys extensive rock collection and Johns jewelry making skills. This combination served Tehama County until 1993, when Bill came on board and really shook things up. Four years later, the business remodeled, adding an 800 square foot mineral and mining museum and additional retail and manufacturing space. In 1999, Bill finished his course work with the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) and received the prestigious Graduate Gemologist diploma. Gaumers Mineral and Mining Museum showcases over fifty years and four generations of collecting. There are beautiful and rare gem and mineral specimens from around the world, stone carvings, fossils, Native American artifacts, a fluorescent mineral display, and a detailed replica of an old mine tunnel complete with ore car, tracks and mining equipment. The free museum is open to the public during normal business hours. Group tours are available for schools and special interest groups.

Sorry but my jewelry is stored in a secure location and cannot be accessed for more pictures, videos, or measurements until sold. If you look at pictures/description your
question should be answered. Thank you so much for your time and consideration! If you would like to chat, that would be great, but lets chat about something that isn‘t answered in this listing that we put so much effort into already :)

All precious metals are tested and guaranteed. A Native American jewelry piece referred to as "silver" or "ingot" is guaranteed to be at least 90% silver. I rarely use the word "sterling" when referring to older Native American silver or really any older silver jewelry as silver contents vary and "sterling" is 92.5% silver. No older jewelry is going to be exactly 92.5% silver, some a little over, some a little under. It wasn‘t an exact thing with handmade jewelry. I‘ve seen thousands of pieces xrf‘d to prove this. Bracelets are photographed on a 6" women‘s wrist.

Fidel Bahe Navajo for Rocking Horse Ranch Tufa Cast sterling belt buckle
Fidel Bahe Navajo for Rocking Horse Ranch Tufa Cast sterling belt buckle. Solid sterling silver, marked as shown. Weight and measurements in pics. Born in 1949 and raised in Seba Dalkai area, Fidel Bahe is the firstborn of eight children--two sisters and five brothers. Fidel began silversmithing at age 24, focussing on traditional Navajo designs with his own creative flair. In 1976, Preston Monongye took Fidel in as an apprentice and taught him the fundamentals and techniques to become a great jeweler. After ten months of apprenticeship, Fidel showed his jewelry at Santa Fe Indian Market, winning ribbons for all of the pieces he entered. The art of jewelry-making was originally just a hobby for Fidel Bahe. After learning the basics of his craft, he apprenticed with Victor Beck and learned contemporary styling. Charles Loloma was also an inspiration and critic of his work, giving Fidel advice to help lead his art in a new direction. While attending welding school Fidel met his close relative Wilson Jim who worked at Rocking Horse Ranch with Edison Smith. Jim and Smith taught Bahe the basics about traditional art and techniques including stamp work. During this time, Fidel was inspired to put traditional designs back into his pieces. Since then, Fidel has focussed on quality, consistency, uniqueness, and cultural and artistic values. Of the inspiration behind his imaginative work, he says “it hits you right between the eyes. Over the years, Fidel Bahe entered many pieces at Santa Fe Indian Market, winning ribbons every year until 1991 when he won three first-place and two second-place ribbons before deciding not to return to the competition. Fidel feels his pieces are seen as finished and refined traditional work in the first and second phases of Navajo jewelry. After an accident that injured his eye, Fidel learned the art of natural horsemanship and training foals. He now spends equal time between the arts of jewelry and horsemanship. For Fidel, his two passions come together as one, each embracing the six keys -- attitude, knowledge, tools, technique, time, and imagination. Fidel Bahe‘s grandson, Sage Nunez, has followed in Fidel‘s footsteps and makes beautiful jewelry as well.

Julian Lovato (1922-2018) Kewa Sterling Mediterranean coral concho belt
Julian Lovato (1922-2018) Kewa Sterling Mediterranean coral concho belt 2.75" x 2" buckle, (9) 2.5" x 1 5/8" conchos. No isssues, I‘ll follow up with length and weight. Since 1948, the Southwest has offered the world distinctive and unusual jewelry of Julian Lovato. His work has the individual stamp of a creative craftsman, yet the tradition of the Native American Southwest is evident. Lovato express his own sophisticated modern designs in handmade sterling silver and gold jewelry and objects of art. Coral and turquoise are the traditional gemstones of the Southwestern Indian, "the most valuable thing to possess, something to treasure, the way people want to have a diamond no matter what price," Lovato explains. He designs each piece of jewelry around the stone, selecting the finest turquoise and coral available. Lovato‘s love of turquoise goes back to his childhood: Santo Domingo Pueblo is renown for turquoise bead making and silversmithing. His father and grandfather both worked with turquoise. Upon his father‘s death, Lovato got a job at age thirteen cutting stones at Maisels in Albuquerque. Later, he spent several years with a similar operation in Kansas City. Then in 1948 he had the great fortune of becoming apprentice to the internationally distinguished Italian silversmith, Frank Patania. Patania came to Santa Fe in 1924. He brought with his a new sense of design elegance to Southwestern jewelry. During his years at Patinia‘s Thunderbird Shop in Santa Fe, Lovato was responsible for the silver monogram that became the Thunderbird specialty: contemporary buckles, cufflinks, brooches and rings. Patania and Lovato also made sterling silver pitchers, bowls, teapots and trays. Whereas most traditional Native American jewelry is flatwork, either stamped or overlay, Lovato has adopted the techniques and design elements learned from Patania into what he calls a raised or dimensional jewelry design. Lovato‘s bracelets curve not only along it‘s length, but also softly across the width. The bezels hold the stones elevated from the surface, so that the turquoise or coral stones appear to float above the surface. The effect of suspension contrasts with the second characteristic of Lovato‘s style- a deliberate look of weight in the metalwork. Lovato uses substantial sheets of sterling silver and gold, giving an importance to the metal work. However, the exquisite balance and craftsmanship belie the weight of the metal. Julian Lovato combines tradition and innovation, and the permanence of metal and stone with the elusive grace and beauty of design in works of art which will endure. "I have strong feelings about the things I do. I‘d like to leave something behind someday when I am gone. Something that people can remember me by, something that is worthwhile. I‘d like somebody to think of me as a silversmith whose work can be treasured. I think my work can speak for itself." All precious metals are tested and guaranteed, any Native American jewelry referred to as Silver or Sterling is guaranteed to be a minimum of 90% (coin) silver and possibly higher content. Anything marked is guaranteed to be what it‘s marked, most bracelets are photographed on a 6" wrist (non hairy), rings photographed on the appropriate sized finger when possible. With bracelets if the measurement is not given in the description then inside circumference is shown where the metal meets the number on the the cloth tape measure.

RJ Scott Navajo sterling high grade spiderweb turquoise belt buckle
RJ Scott Navajo sterling high grade spiderweb turquoise belt buckle. Fully functional with no issues. Solid sterling silver, weight and measurements in pics. Navajo artist, Raynard J. Taaitsohii Scott, was born on September 3, 1965 in Los Angeles, California. He is of the kin Yaaaanii (Towering House People) Clan, and born for the Dzil tlahnii (Mountain Recess People) Clan. He is the eldest of four boys and two girls. Although raised primarily in urban areas, it was important for Ray and his siblings to be taught traditional Dine (Navajo) values and beliefs. “One of the most important [beliefs] is that of reciprocity. In this sense I take great care and have the utmost respect for my creations, or my ‘children, as they also take care of my family and me. I talk to my ‘children and pray as I work with them. Each of these creations has a part of myself in it, and as a result of breathing life into each one, it has a character and soul all its own, said Ray. Rays parents initiated his jewelry-making training at the early age of seven. Ray also acknowledges artists Raymond Yazzie, Boyd Tsosie, and Charles Supplee as prominent figures and inspiration in his life as he learned the ways of jewelry making. “It is difficult to label a ‘style of work that I do. I can only describe it as contemporary, layered sculptures. I like building up layers of contrasting textures and designs. The more intricate design or the further from the norm I get, the more enthusiastic I am about working. I also enjoy researching and reading about ancient arts and civilizations. Among my favorites are those of Ancient Egypt, Greek, and classical periods, such as the Renaissance and Victorian eras. Rays pieces have won many awards at several shows, including the Santa Fe Indian Market, the Heard Museum Guild Fair, Red Earth, Eight Northern Pueblos Show, and the Gallup Ceremonial. His work is also included in museums and private collections both nationally and internationally. “It is my wish that each of my creations find a good home: that the person who acquires it will appreciate and have as much happiness wearing it as I did creating it.

Thomas Curtis Navajo Large sterling high grade turquoise belt buckle
Thomas Curtis Navajo Large sterling high grade turquoise belt buckle. Clean condition with no issues. Weight and measurements in pics. The classic Navajo jewelry designs of Thomas (Tom) Curtis reflect his upbringing in a family of talented silversmiths. Both of his grandfathers were silversmiths, and with their encouragement, Thomas Curtis began crafting traditional Navajo jewelry at only 12 years old. Today, his heavy-gauge silver jewelry has become highly prized to collectors who value skillful silverwork with precise hand-tooled details. His deep-rooted respect for his craft earned Thomas Curtis many awards for his Navajo jewelry and impeccable sterling silver boxes. Since his first year at Santa Fe Indian Market in 1984, he won countless ribbons including Best of Division, First, Second, and Third Place awards. Thomas Curtis remembered his grandmother once telling him, “You can make it with your vision, your mind, and your 10 fingers. Everything is right here in your hands." Her inspiration was proven true, as he created all his own die sets (stamping tools) his entire life, which made the patterns on his jewelry uniquely his. Despite his reputation as one of the industrys premier silversmiths, Thomas Curtis lived a traditional life on the Navajo reservation, where he found inspiration for his jewelry by “looking at the ground, the sky, the plants, and the four seasons." He was proud of his days as a champion rodeo rider and felt blessed to have shared his craft with his children and grandchildren. Today, the traditions he learned from his grandparents live strong in Thomas Curtis family. His daughter, Jennifer Curtis, has a following for her exquisite Navajo jewelry and boxes, with skillful silversmithing techniques that have been passed on through generations. He said, "When my kids picked up my work, that was real encouraging to me because it means the traditions are going to go on." Thomas Curtis passed away on June 29, 2013, but his legacy lives on through his timeless handcrafted jewelry.
