  • Palatial c1900 Art Nouveau Franz Mehlem Royal Bonn Raised gold Hand Painted Port - Estate Fresh Austin

Palatial c1900 Art Nouveau Franz Mehlem Royal Bonn Raised gold Hand Painted Port

    Out of stock

Palatial c1900 Art Nouveau Franz Mehlem Royal Bonn Hand Painted Portrait vase. 22" Tall, rare size. The portrait is hand painted and artist signed J. Duren. Raised gold flowers hand painted. The overall floral decoration appears to be hand painted over a transfer base. This piece is really over the top. I didn't notice until I was photographing this and it was on a mantle when I bought it, but there is a fairly clean break in the green area where the base tapers. It has been glued with epoxy and is strong. This is by far the best piece of Royal Bonn I've ever had or seen, I'm discounting heavily for this repair and the fact that it possibly once had a lid.Royal Bonn is the 19th and 20th Century Trade Name used by the renowned craftsman Franz Anton Mehlem, who produced pottery in Bonn, Germany from 1836 to 1931. Fine Porcelain and Earthenware were manufactured in the factory. In 1921, the firm was purchased by Villeroy & Boch and closed in 1931. TW228

  • Pat Areias Hammered Sterling belt buckle with cool monogram - Estate Fresh Austin

Pat Areias Hammered Sterling belt buckle with cool monogram

    1 in stock

Pat Areias Hammered Sterling belt buckle with cool monogram. Heavy extremely high quality buckle 2 3/8" x 1 5/8", fits a 1" belt. 53.7 grams Each piece of Pat Areias's artistry is hand rendered, one by one. As such, they may be similar, but they are not the same. “The essence of hand fabrication," Areias says, “is that every piece is made by an artisan as an original." Using a jewelry saw, buckles are cut by hand out of sheet silver and hand forged, then dapped and individually chased and soldered to produce her finished works. Pat Areias Sterling began in 1987 in Cuernavaca, Mexico, with the introduction of a three-piece buckle set which became the foundation of the designer's business. Two years later, she added silver jewelry to her collection. Reminiscent of the Art Deco era, her designs are marked by a contemporary style. Though she was born and raised in the San Joaquin Valley to third generation Portuguese dairy farmers, she pursued her interest in the traditions of her Latin descent by studying the Portuguese and Spanish cultures, arts and languages at the University of California at Santa Barbara. While subsequently serving in the Peace Corps throughout Central and South America, she had occasion to apprentice with both silver and leather craftsmen of Ecuador and Mexico. Something inside beckoned her to pursue the artistry on her own. Areias's designs are a true reflection of her love and appreciation for both Latin and Scandinavian aesthetics, dating back to an era of silver designers from the 1930s and 1940s which originated in Denmark. As silver became scarce during World War II, argent veins running through Mexico lured Danish designers to the area, where their pure designs and silversmithing finesse were shared with the native craftsmen. "The Danish designers," she says, "have both a sincere affinity for the arts and an eye for contemporary lines which brings out the best of the silver. I have a great love and respect for this style of silversmithing. It is the inspiration for my own creativity which, when forged with the Latin influence of my heritage, emerges in my signature designs." While in Mexico, Areias met and married her husband, Fred Sanchez, a mechanical engineer who has since abandoned his business to become fully involved in Pat Areias Sterling. After more 30 years in business, Pat Areias sterling is not only recognizable in itself, but the name has become synonymous with quality. The provision of fine sterling silver accessories and specialized customer service has proved a successful combination for the growing company. tw208

  • Paul Jean Marie Sain (1853-1908) 1901 French Portrait of Charles Chincho - Estate Fresh Austin

Paul Jean Marie Sain (1853-1908) 1901 French Portrait of Charles Chincho

    1 in stock

Paul Jean Marie Sain (1853-1908) 1901 French Portrait of Chincholle. Really great original oil on Canvas. The man in the portrait resembles a French author named Charles Chincholle who died of a stroke in 1902. Hopefully I'll have more info at a later date. 16" x 19" framed, 11" x 14" canvas. No restorations, clean frame, clean painting other than two small scuffs one to the left of the top of his head, another just above it to the right of the signature. Below are the Biographies of both the artist and Charles Chincholle. One thing they have in common is They were both at one point named knights of the Legion of Honor. Charles Chincholle was appointed the year this painted was done, a year before his death. I've found a few portraits of him online and it looks like him to me. Jean-Paul Marie Saïn (5 December 1853, Avignon - 6 March 1908, Avignon) was a French painter, known primarily for landscapes and portraits. Paul Jean Marie Sain studied under noted Academic painters Jean Leon Gerome and Charles Michel Guilbert d'Anelle. Sain made his debut at the Paris Salon in 1879. His paintings of marine scenes and lush romantic landscapes were well received and he was awarded honorable mention in 1883, a third place medal in 1886, a bronze medal in 1889 and in 1900 at the Paris Exposition Universelle. He was made a Knight of the Legion of Honor in 1895. His works are in the collection of the Musee du Louvre, Paris, Musee du Luxembourg, Paris, Musee de Perpignan and the Alencon Fine Art Museum. Charles Henri Hippolyte Chincholle , born on July 16, 1843 in Amiens 1 and died onAugust 26, 1902in Paris , is a French journalist and writer . He is considered to be the first major French reporter. Biography Son of Barthélémy Hyppolite Chincholle and Pélagie Victoire Aimée Quequet, Charles Chincholle was declared by his father under the first names of Henri Charles Hippolyte 4 , 5 . He began studying medicine, which he left quite quickly. Last secretary of Alexandre Dumas from 1865 to 1870 6 , Chincholle wrote in the newspapers founded by the latter such as Le Mousquetaire or Le D'Artagnan , as well as the Parlement , la Liberté , Paris-Journal , before entering, in 1872, at Villemessant 7 au Figaro where he became one of the main reporters, following all the important public events and signing some of his articles under the pseudonym of Henri Hamoise 8 or Georges Rip 7 . He thus follows the Boulangist campaignand let himself be seduced for a time by the personality of General Boulanger , of whom he became the unofficial memorialist. However, when the latter was installed in Jersey, Chincholle wanted to see him and was not received. Therefore, it burned down what he loved, and we could read, under his signature, the phrase: "I leave the Boulangism as it leaves a bad love 9 . " Founder of several newspapers such as Le Lucifer , which only saw a few issues 10 and L'Estampe, artistic journal (1884-?) 11 , being a great fan of engravings, he was also president of the Cercle de l'escrime. We owe him numerous interviews with celebrities such as Paul Verlaine and Auguste Rodin . In addition to his countless reportage and current affairs articles and despite his active life and his almost daily collaboration with Le Figaro , Chincholle has written a dozen novels, including La Juive du Château-Trompette published under the name of Ponson du Terrail , serialized in the Little Bordelais, in 1871 12 , eight plays, five or six volumes of contemporary history or biography, and a number of short stories, fantasies and varieties 7 . In 1870, he had a very cheerful little act performed at the Folies-Dramatiques , Uncle Margottin , which had more than three hundred performances. He then praised the theater's new order to give a drama of it, the husband of Joan , black drama that ended with the of the wife and the lover 10 . One fine day, passers-by stopped, bewildered, in front of his poster which read "Free entry for adulterous women." »The story does not say if there were many of them at the control.9 . Entered the Société des gens de lettres in 1885, he made eleven years on the Committee, and has successively served as secretary, Quaestor and Vice President 7 . He had also succeeded Aurélien Scholl as president of the Cercle de l'Escrime et des Arts 13 . In 1901, he was appointed knight of the Legion of Honor 14 . He succumbed to a stroke the following year 15 . He is buried in the cemetery of Cergy 7 : 175 .

Pauline Claw Navajo Kings Manassa Turquoise Sterling silver belt buckle. Solid sterling silver with weight and measurements in pictures, some expected wear with no damage. All stones are very secure in their bezels and are not going anywhere. Fits up to a 1.25" belt. King‘s Manassa Turquoise Manassa Turquoise was mined at Manassa in south central Colorado. Manassa Turquoise is known for its blue-green to green color with a golden or brown, non-webbed matrix. It runs primarily in veins hosted by a beautiful golden brown hard rock. It takes a skilled stone cutter to get the Turquoise out of this hard rock. This stone is a favorite of gold and silversmiths in the southwest, when they can get it! The mining at the Manassa Turquoise mine at this time, is at a stand still. Most of the Colorado Turquoise mines are not operational at this time. The Manassa Turquoise mine was originally found by I.P. King and passed down to his son, and then to his grandson and current owner, Bill King. Bill has has spent his entire life in the Turquoise business and has mined Manassa turquoise, Pilot Mountain Turquoise mine, and many others. Bill King is a wealth of information about turquoise and one of the last old time miners. He is a wonderful stone cutter and a wonderful miner as well. These days Bill cuts his Manassa Turquoise and has it made into Native American Indian Jewelry.

Pizzichillo & Gordon Studio Art Glass Vase

    1 in stock

Pizzichillo & Gordon Studio Art Glass Vase 7.25" tall x 6.5" wide.<br>No cracks, chips, or restorations.<br><br>Bruce Pizzichillo and Dari Gordon are internationally known artists who create<br>large, colorful handblown glass vases, sculptural vessels and bowls as well as<br>intriguing glass and mixed media sculptures. Using glassmaking techniques that<br>are thousands of years old, along with many of their own invention, Bruce and<br>Dari melt glass in furnaces that are designed for work in multiple colors. They<br>achieve a palette of distinctive colors by mixing various metallic oxide<br>formulations containing gold, silver, cobalt and others, into the molten glass.<br>They heat the raw materials in large ceramic pots inside a glass furnace at<br>temperatures in excess of 2400 degrees Fahrenheit. As the molten liquid glass<br>achieves a working temperature, the artists gather the fluid substance onto the<br>end of a five foot long steel pipe or rod. They blow, manipulate and shape the<br>mass of molten glass, constantly spinning it and dipping it back into the pot<br>for additional gathers if the piece is exceptionally large. For decoration, they<br>apply shards, frit, bits and strings of colored glass that they have pre-made to<br>the hot surface of the glass, and then reheat the piece to fuse the elements to<br>the surface. When they complete the blowing and shaping process, they remove the<br>piece from the pipe and place it into an annealing oven, where it will cool<br>slowly over a specific period. In general, the larger and thicker the piece, the<br>longer the time required for it to anneal. If not properly annealed, the piece<br>will shatter when exposed to room temperature. Finally, the artists inspect each<br>piece to determine if it meets their standards for first quality. They then<br>proceed with the finishing work, which can include cutting, grinding and<br>polishing before signing the completed piece. Depending on the size and<br>complexity of the piece, the artists may reject half the pieces they make, or<br>more, for lacking the requisites of first quality. Bruce studied at the<br>University of New Mexico and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in glass from<br>the California College of Arts & Crafts, where he studied with world-renowned<br>glass artist Marvin Lipofsky. Bruce has worked with glass since 1976. <br><br>TW9

Porfirio Salinas (1910–1973) Big Bend Texas/Mexico Landscape Oil on Canvas

    1 in stock

Porfirio Salinas (1910–1973) Big Bend Texas/Mexico Landscape South of El Paso.100% guaranteed Original Oil on canvas painted by Porfirio Salinas in the 1960's<br>with no damage or restorations of any kind. Overall: 32 3/4 by 38 3/4 inches<br>24" x 30" painting. Salinas is not as well known for his west Texas/Northern<br>Mexico desert landscaped but he did do some. I'm sure it was more pleasant<br>sitting in a bluebonnet field close to home in the spring then it was sweating<br>in the desert, but a trained eye should be able to see this master's skill and<br>respect his diversity.<br><br>On Oct 18, 2008 a much smaller Porfirio Salinas landscape with a similar terrain<br>was offered for auction by David Dike Fine Art at a $15,000 starting price, I'm<br>unsure if it sold or what it sold for. It was titled "75 Miles South of El<br>Paso", 1953 oil on canvas 16 x 20. So less than half of the size of this<br>painting, it had the same cacti and Red Yucca. In 2019 prickly pear Cacti<br>Landscape by Salinas brough $125,000 with the buyers premium at the same David<br>Dike Fine Art.<br><br>The paper on this frame possibly covers the title of this painting, I'm tempted<br>to remove it but I'm going to try my best not to as the old brittle paper does<br>help date the painting and I really like to leave things as I found them. No<br>damage or restorations whatsoever to the painting, thoroughly examined under<br>both natural and UV light.<br><br>Porfirio Salinas (November 6, 1910 – April 18, 1973) was an early Texas<br>landscape painter who is recognized for his depictions of the Texas Hill Country<br>in the springtime. He was one of the first Mexican American artists to become<br>nationally recognized for his paintings. He was described by The New York Times<br>as being United States President Lyndon B. Johnson's favorite painter. Works by<br>Salinas are displayed in the Texas State Capitol, the Texas Governor's Mansion<br>and in a number of museums including the Witte Museum in San Antonio, Texas and<br>the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum.<br><br>Early history<br>Salinas was born on November 6, 1910, near Bastrop, Texas. He came from a family<br>of Mexican American tenant farmers, his father Porfirio G. Salinas and his<br>mother Clara G. Chavez Salinas leaving the farm for San Antonio when Porfirio<br>was a child. Salinas was a precocious talent who drew and painted from the time<br>he was a small boy and received encouragement from his teachers. He had little<br>formal education and left school when he was young in order to work in an art<br>supply store. When he was fifteen he met the English-born landscape artist<br>Robert William Wood (1889–1979) at the store.<br><br>Salinas went to work in Wood's studio in 1925, where he learned the basics of<br>being a professional painter. He stretched Wood's canvasses, and learned to<br>frame paintings, how to mix paints and how to prepare canvas under Wood's<br>supervision. Wood was a very capable businessman, and Salinas learned how to<br>sell and market his art from the English painter. Salinas accompanied Wood and<br>the Spanish-born artist and teacher José Arpa (1858–1952) on sketching trips to<br>the hills and valleys surrounding San Antonio where they painted blooming<br>wildflowers in the spring and the Texas Red Oak in the fall. With his talent and<br>hard work he was soon capable of professional work.<br><br>Professional career<br>Salinas began painting professionally in 1930, when he was twenty years old.[4]<br>His early work was influenced by his mentor Robert Wood's paintings.[5] He<br>painted many scenes of Texas bluebonnets, the state flower, which were sold to<br>tourists by the artists and galleries in San Antonio, Texas. In 1939 he began<br>working with the art dealer Dewey Bradford (1896–1985), who sold paintings,<br>frames and art supplies in the state capital of Austin.<br><br>National recognition<br>While Salinas sold his work steadily, by 1960 he was known primarily to Texas<br>collectors and tourists who visited San Antonio. In 1961, this changed rapidly<br>with the election of his collector Lyndon B. Johnson (1908–1973) to the Vice<br>Presidency of the United States. With his ascension from the United States<br>Senate to being Vice President, Johnson and his wife Lady Bird Johnson<br>(1912–2007) purchased a large French-style chateau from the socialite and<br>heiress Perle Mesta (1889–1975). They decorated the house with French antiques<br>and tapestries that were already in the home, but the foyer was hung with Texas<br>wildflower paintings by Salinas. Lady Bird Johnson was quoted as saying, "I want<br>to see them when I open the door, to remind me of where I come from." At the<br>time of the President Kennedy's assassination, Salinas had completed a scene of<br>a horse drinking titled "Rocky Creek" that was meant to be presented to Kennedy<br>during his ill-fated visit to Dallas. Lyndon Johnson told the Washington press<br>that Porfirio Salinas was "his favorite artist." President Johnson also<br>presented a Salinas painting to President Gustavo Diaz Ordaz of Mexico as an<br>official gift from the United States. The patronage of the President was a<br>tremendous boost to the artist's career and during the 1960s, his work sold<br>briskly for ever higher prices. The Johnsons' Salinas paintings remain in the<br>collection of the LBJ Ranch today. President and Lady Bird Johnson were both<br>advocates and admirers of wildflowers. Lady Bird Johnson will always remain<br>linked to the subject of wildflowers because of her "Beautify America" campaign<br>and the Highway Beautification Act, which was passed by the United States<br>Congress in 1965. As part of that effort, many miles of Texas roadsides were<br>seeded with Texas bluebonnets, Lupinus texensis, the flowers that Salinas is<br>known for painting.<br><br>Death and posthumous reputation<br>Salinas was recognized by the city of his birth, Bastrop, Texas in 1960, when he<br>was fifty years old. He had a solo exhibition at the Witte Museum in San Antonio<br>in 1962. His work was widely published by the New York Graphic Society, which<br>added to his national reputation. In 1967 his work illustrated a book titled<br>Bluebonnets and Cactus that was published in Austin.<br><br>Salinas died on April 18, 1973, after a brief illness. He was memorialized in<br>the City of Austin with Porfirio Salinas Day in 1973. Ruth Goddard wrote a book<br>titled Porfirio Salinas that was published two years after his death. There is a<br>Youth Art Exhibition showcasing work by K-12 students, named after the artist,<br>held each year in Bastrop. In celebration of the centennial of Salinas' birth,<br>the Witte Museum mounted an exhibition titled Porfirio Salinas: Painting South<br>Texas that opened on October 16, 2010, and ran to March 20, 2011.<br><br>Artistic production<br>The professional career of Porfirio Salinas stretched to more than forty years.<br>According to the art historian Jeffrey Morseburg, he is estimated to have<br>painted between two and three thousand works. His work is divided among a number<br>of subjects, but Hill Country landscapes of the Texas bluebonnets predominate.<br>The bluebonnet landscape has remained eternally popular with both collectors of<br>historic Texas paintings and contemporary artists. Salinas also painted many<br>scenes of Texas red oak trees in the autumn and prickly pear cactus. There were<br>also scenes of the Texas desert in the Texas Panhandle and of arid West Texas.<br>Salinas made trips to Mexico and painted rural Mexican villages and the<br>volcanoes that are south of Mexico City. For Mexican American audiences, Salinas<br>painted small scenes of bullfights, cockfights and Mexican fandangos.<br><br>Personal life<br>Salinas married Maria Bonillas, a Mexican woman who worked for the Mexican<br>National Railways, in San Antonio in 1943. They had a single child, Christina<br>Maria Salinas, who was born in 1945. Maria Bonillas Salinas helped manage her<br>husband's career. The Salinas home and studio was located at 2723 Buena Vista<br>Street in San Antonio. It consists of a small stone home with a detached studio.

  • Pre-Columbian Aztec Jaguar Warrior figures and head shard - Estate Fresh Austin

Pre-Columbian Aztec Jaguar Warrior figures and head shard

    1 in stock

Pre-Columbian Aztec Jaguar Warrior figures and head shard. Selling both out of<br>an important collection of world artifacts all purchased through major auction<br>houses/reputable galleries. The receipts I did find showed price was no object.<br>I feel really fortunate to be able own these items even if just for a short time<br>and to be able to offer them at a fraction of what they last sold for. The<br>collector collected for himself and was low key as are his heirs, so as much as<br>I would love to acquire more provenance on each item it's just not possible at<br>this point without being intrusive, then possibly still not possible.<br><br>The head shard is great and all, measures 4.75" wide x 4.25" tall with loss<br>shown, likely broken at the neck and part of a large figure. This Jaguar warrior<br>is absolutely amazing, polychrome decorated, has an amazing "no brainer" to me<br>patina overall. Very realistic figure made by a skilled potter at the time. 6"<br>tall with old restorations to clean break at head, base of sword, and one leg.<br>Even though this is not incredibly large it is incredibly nice and my guess is<br>the previous owner paid thousands of dollars for this figure. Selling both<br>pieces shown. Guaranteed over 500 years old.

Very special piece. This is part of a large collection of artifacts I'm helping liquidate, all purchased from reputable sources over the last quarter of the 20th century, money was no object.
