This is
an older bracelet circa mid 20th century. There is not etching in the
background, which some of the early artist did not do.

Wallie Sekayumptewa (1917-2003) Reed Clan
Wallie produced jewelry from 1948 to 1967, when he ceased working due to
impaired eyesight, he was an early innovator in silver overlay technology at the
Hopi Guild in the late 1940s. The Hopi Arts & Crafts Co-op Guild was formed in
1947, after World War II, when returning Hopi servicemen were trained at a
silversmithing school founded under the G.I. bill. The late Paul Saufkie, Sr.
was the technical instructor and the late Fred Kabotie, noted Hopi artist and
designer, taught design. Although many techniques of silver work were used, the
overlay style gradually emerged as the dominate style. This simple, unique,
elegant jewelry is now considered essentially the Hopi style of jewelry.

Sekayumptewa originally made jewelry with turquoise but switched to the overlay
technique when the Hopi Arts & Crafts Co-op Guild was established (1947).

All precious metals are tested and guaranteed, any Native American jewelry
referred to as Silver or Sterling is guaranteed to be a minimum of 90% (coin)
silver and possibly higher content. Chavez
I began my journey as an artist learning to craft jewelry from my father,
Richard I Chavez, a renowned lapidary artist. I was not given exact direction as
to what to make but was only given the tools and instruction on how to use them.
Along the way my work would be critiqued by my father and I would continually
strive to evolve my designs and fabrication processes. He stressed the quality
of the design and construction making sure that every aspect of a piece looked
“finished” and no corners were cut.

Along with all that I learned in my father’s studio, I would receive a Bachelor
of Arts from Georgetown University in Studio Arts with a focus in Digital Art
and Printmaking. After I graduated, I would attend The Revere Academy of Jewelry
Arts’, Intensive Bench Jeweler Program in San Francisco. Each of these
educational experiences added a particular technical or visual aspect to my work
and would encourage me to continue to explore all the ways I could enhance my
designs.

My current work focuses on the reflective nature of polished silver. Though
fabrication, metal stamping, and some casting, I explore how light and
reflection interacts with the materials I utilize. I’ve found that polished
silver takes in the colors and the light of the world around, and through the
use of surface texture a dynamic play of light is created across the surface of
my designs. I further enhance my work thought the use of semi-precious stones
(agates, quartz, jades, etc.). However one of the most important qualities in my
selection of stones is often translucency. I’ve found that by allowing light to
shine though a stone an overall rich and warm effect is created in the overall
design.

Along with my yearly schedule of shows where I sell my designs, I’ve also made
it a point to educate the public about my work. Growing up in my father’s
studio, I always saw just how much of himself he put into his designs and how
sometimes he was met with disbelief as to how much work was put into his pieces.
I found this to be a similar case when I entered the business, as the general
public only sees the finished piece. For that reason, though in person
demonstrations and self-produced video mini-documentaries, we’ve made it a point
to show the skill, time, and passion that goes into every design. I continually
strive to evolve my work and hold every design to the exacting standards that my
father established when he created Chavez Studio 50 years ago.

All precious metals are tested and guaranteed, any Native American jewelry
referred to as Silver or Sterling is guaranteed to be a minimum of 90% (coin)
silver and possibly higher content. Dan Jackson Navajo rug tufa cast bracelet with Ajax turquoise Fits up to a 6
7/8" wrist including the 1" gap. 117.2 grams.

Dan Jackson (1944-2022) was an award winning Navajo silversmith who is best
known for his meticulous “rug pattern” etchings in silver and gold.

Living true to the culture and traditions of the Navajo way of life, Dan keeps
horses and sheep, but creates silver and gold jewelry that typically
incorporates rug patterns in brilliantly executed overlay designs. With a
variety of finishes – textured, polished, matte, darkened – and meticulous
workmanship, these intricate designs take on a very contemporary, urban allure.

Dan says, “I learned silverwork from my father, who worked with silver until he
was 95. The rug designs on my (jewelry)…come from my mother’s weavings….I
continue the heavy silverwork of my father.” His hallmark signature on his
jewelry is the Hogan, the traditional home of the Navajo—“a gift to the Dine by
First Man. This round structure of earth and wood embodies the framework of
Navajo life: the circular nature of life. All things are alive and composed of
two parts–it is the joining of these two parts which make the whole and thus
create balance and harmony.” Dan brings this notion of balance and tradition to
the meticulous silver of his jewelry.

Dan learned silversmithing from his father, John Nez Begay, who made jewelry for
over 80 years, and lived to be 106 years old. His mother, Bernice Charlie, was a
weaver and is the source of Dan’s inspirations. He tells of his mother visiting
him in a dream, where she stirred him to create his now famous triple overlay
rug design jewelry.

Dan’s formal education is in engineering. He worked for the Bureau of Indian
Affairs for 20 years. After being injured in 1985, Dan needed another way to
support his family (4 daughters). Being an accomplished silversmith, it only
made sense to him to devote his time to making jewelry.

Dan consistently collects awards and accolades at juried art shows, such as
Santa Fe Indian Market. He has won numerous awards and ribbons at Gallup
Inter-Tribal Ceremonial, Window Rock, Arizona Tribal Fair, the New Mexico and
Arizona State Fair and the Shiprock, NM Fair.

All precious metals are tested and guaranteed, any Native American jewelry
referred to as Silver or Sterling is guaranteed to be a minimum of 90% (coin)
silver and possibly higher content. Currently residing is Sanders, Arizona, Jay says that his true roots arise from Pine Springs, AZ, located on the Navajo reservation. Jay Livingston is part Navajo and part Zuni, and he feels that both of his cultures influence his work."I am an artist and my name is Jay Jacob Livingston, a third generation silversmith. I've been the understudy of master silversmith Jake Livingston from such a young age, nine years old to be exact, all the while finding and incorporating my own techniques and designs. I currently reside in Sanders, Arizona. However, my true roots arise from Pine Springs, Arizona which is located on the Navajo reservation. If I am not working on jewelry I am in Pine Springs tending the family ranch.I am Navajo and part Zuni. Both of my cultures influence my work, however as of late my motivation is derived from my beliefs in the Native American Church. I've also been trained in metal fabrication receiving certifications with high honors from Tulsa Welding School and San Juan Community College. This type of training has allowed me to create my own style of metal fabrication including heavy stamp work. My beliefs play an important role in my life and it's depicted in my work. I continue to blend my ideas with my techniques to innovate within my medium however one day I plan to expand my boundaries.I have won several ribbons for First Place titles in prestige art shows around the country including the Santa Fe Indian Market, Heard Museum Guild Indian Fair and Market, Southwest Indian Art Fair and the Navajo Nation Fair. Every form of art I create is truly one of a kind and is a part of me. I believe the Creator blessed me with this gift not only to show the beauty of my culture but share the blessing from the Creator to all his children. All precious metals are tested and guaranteed,
