Great piece from the 1890's to about 1910 at the latest. 16" wide x 3.5" deep with no cracks, chips, or restorations, expected wear to gilding on rim. Exremely rare to find a piece like this with the original label as in the late 20th century many would have removed this label and presented this as a mid 19th century piece. Personally I don't think it matters whether this is 1860 or 1900, it's the same piece and definitely a handmade antique that would cost much more than I'm asking for it to make today with all this hand painted work involved. I think it's really old, 19th to early 20th century.<br>Nice estate fresh ceremonial mask covered in hide with some wear as shown.<br>15"high, 10"wide, 12.5"deep, crack in forehead, a few of the horns are a little<br>loose.<br><br>The Bete and Gere people reside in Ivore' Coast, just south of the Guro. ,<br>omnipresent in Bete life, aims to maintain a harmonious relationship between<br>nature and the ancestors, who are responsible for the welfare of the tribe.<br>Elaborate masquerades and ceremonies are performed by the men of the tribe who<br>belong to dance societies.According to the book, THE TRIBAL ARTS OF AFRICA<br>byBacquart: "Bete carvers are renowned for one particular type of face mask<br>which has exaggerated features- a large protruding mouth,an elongated nose,with<br>nostrils sometimes extending to each side of the face, and globular eyes set<br>beneath a high domed forehead carved with a medium ridge. Historically, this<br>type of mask was worn to prepare men for war; nowadays,it is worn for a variety<br>of ceremonies, including entertainment dances." These masks were influenced by<br>the tradition of their western neighbors, the "We". The Bete grew only what was<br>needed for a subsistence economy and placed more importance on the hunt. To<br>render the hostile forces of the forest material, they sculpted a type of mask<br>that would provoke terror: the "gre", with its grimacing face, distorted<br>features facial protuberances, bulging forehead. The Bete live in the<br>southwestern part of the country, between the Akan ethnic groups to the east and<br>the Guro tribe to the north. They number about 600,000 and are an agricultural<br>group. Patrilinear, the Bete live – under the ancestors’ authority – in small<br>“headless” villages. Historically they were hunters, but nowadays they also<br>farm. They grow what is needed for a subsistence economy. They also have linked<br>to the market economy and much of their effort is devoted to the cultivation of<br>cacao and coffee. , omnipresent in Bete life, aims to maintain a harmonious<br>relationship between nature and the ancestors who are responsible for the<br>welfare of the tribe. Black directed ceramic<br>installation in a San Antonio reconstruction project sponsored by the National<br>Youth Administration and the Works Progress Administration art program. Retired Jeep Collins Sterling and Brass Shadowbox angel Pendant2.25" wide x 2" tall no damage or detectable wear. In 1972 Jeep Collins, the son of Enid Collins Handbag designer started making jewelry from glass African trade beads that my sister gave me. She told me, "Why don't you put these together with brass wire and I will see if I can sell them in my store." I had just been discharged from the Marine Corps in July and was planning to go back to college in the fall. I needed to earn a little money while I waited to begin school so I took her up on the offer. By September she was selling all the jewelry I could make. I was so encouraged by the sales that I decided to put off college and make jewelry for awhile. Awhile turned into a lifetime career. In time I learned the art of lost wax casting and direct metal fabrication at the Southwest Craft Center in San Antonio. These new skills enabled me to turn sketches into pieces that reflect my interest; wildlife and nature. In 1974 after my redemption through Jesus Christ many of my designs reflected my new found faith. In the early years Dana and I traveled on weekends to arts and craft shows all over Texas to sell what I made during the week. Later we sold to resellers, and in the early 1990’s we opened our own stores in major Texas cities. This was an exciting time; we had over a hundred craftsmen making jewelry in our Fredericksburg workshop; our lives were at a fast pace. Today life is simple, the stores are all closed and we make jewelry in the old tin house on the ranch, very much like the log cabin of my mother’s where I started. We sell from our website and by phone. The downsizing has been a blessing for us. In addition to making jewelry, Dana and I are involved in several Christian ministries, taking care of grandchildren, raising cattle, and growing vegetables.

Unsigned but distinctive Elzac pin measures approx 1 7/8" x 2.75" inches. This unique 1940s ethnic mask brooch has a green ceramic face and stylized green lucite turban. It reflects the history of the time in that rhinestones and metals were scarce during WWII, so many jewelry designers became more creative with their use of plastics and other non-traditional materials. Elzac was one of the more innovative designers of the 1940s. Clasp holds well and works smoothly. Very good condition.

From) was born in 1908 and opened his first workshop in 1931 when he was still only twenty-three .Over the next forty years Niels Erik went on to become one one of the greats of Danish design, and created many works including floral-inspired designs often set with semi-precious gemstones. These pieces took inspiration from the Skønvirke style. This was a Scandinavian development that formed part of Denmark’s Art Nouveau and Arts and Crafts movement . Amazing set here probably somewhat assembled and larger than what actually came in the box originally as there are different scales, It's estate fresh and this is how I got it. The cutlery is amazing some styled after mid 19th century pieces and possibly older than the original set, I'm not sure but I do know that 95% of the things in here if not 100% are over 100 years old. The stoneware pot is great, does have a small chip on the back side, the Iron enamel muffin pan is really great, there is some damage to enamel as shown. Box measures 12.5" x 9.5". c1750's Battersea box Frog and Deer. Two English 18th century boxes one in the form of a frog, the other a deer. I can't be 100% sure it was made at the Battersea factory, it could be a Bilston box from 20-30 years later. It's 18th century and guaranteed so, both rare boxes. The frog is 1.5" tall x 1.5" wide with some crazing inside and out mainly on the base and bottom of the frog, one chip to the enamel shown in last two pics. The deer 2.25" wide x 1 3/8" tall crazing on top interior and inside and outside of bottom, , small restoration just below the figure on the base and on opposing side of interior. Selling both boxes, if you are interested in only one please have an offer in mind. Battersea boxes developed in the mid 18th century as tiny decorative containers covered with enamel or porcelain and decorated with pleasing designs. Originally the boxes were made of copper covered with white enamel, decorated with classical or scenes or portraits. They evolved over time to become more sentimental. The Battersea box got its name from a firm under the tutelage of Sir Stephen Theodore Janssen, Once Lord Mayor of London at York House in Battersea. The boxes were decorated by transfer printing, which took an impression from an engraved plate painted with enamel and printed on to the box which was then hand painted and fired. The firm existed only from 1753 to 1756 however other firms producing similar boxes, especially those in the village of Bilston, took up this technique. Battersea became the collective name for all such boxes. With advancements in the pottery industry due to the Industrial Revolution, Battersea boxes gradually fell from favour. Allowing small boxes to be produced at less cost than the enameled competitors made Battersea boxes decline significantly by the mid 19th century. They became popular again in the second half of the 20th century with the development of commemorative boxes produced for such well known firms as Tiffany & Co. tw239
