As a young man, he attended school in Santa Fe and served in the US Marines. Ramon began his silver working career in 1978 at Hopicrafts then located near the village of Hotevilla. His designs come from his experiences in life - clouds, thunderbolts and rain - important in an area with no irrigation for crops; and bear, spider, antelope, prayer feathers, kachinas, kokopelli, corn - the clan religious symbols, the basis of Hopi life.Ramon's work is characterized by the very heavy weight (thickness) silver he uses and his laser like precision in cutting out his designs and meticulous background stamping - nothing but the highest quality. He is a very fine man who we are proud to call our friend!Ramon uses his name stamped into the reverse of his pieces as his hallmark. Earlier examples of his work were marked with a composite RA.Ramon lives in Hotevilla. His son Cheston was honorably discharged from the Marine Corp and graduated from Arizona State University where he obtained his Master's Degree in Criminal Justice. At present, Cheston is living in Artesia, NM and working as an instructor at the Federal Police Academy. Shown in the picture above is Ramon and his grand daughter Tawavensie during Christmas, 2023. She has grown into a beautiful young lady, as you can see from the picture to the right taken at the Heard Museum show in 2018. Navajo silversmith Delbert Gordon was originally from Houck, Arizona, and grew up in Tohatchi, New Mexico.Delbert began silversmithing in high school at the age of 17. He was inspired by his uncle, T.K. Whitman. Although he considers himself an artist first, he quickly realized he had a talent for silversmithing as well. He draws and fabricates his own designs, and has established his reputation as one of the best traditional style artists. He does beautiful stamp work in plain silver, and often incorporates stones into his designs.“After high school my brother in-law and I started to make jewelry. I didn’t know anything about it and had to teach myself everything.”“I had been selling jewelry for about 10 years when one of the local shops in town asked me to work for them. So they would give me the stones and silver and I would work at home and in the shop. I did this for over 20 years, never doing any other work. At the time I really was making a lot of good jewelry for the business and wanted to go out on my own to make more money. Circa fourth quarter of the 20th century. 46" long. Frank Yellowhorse was an acclaimed Navajo artist known for his bold and colorful geometric inlay jewelry. Frank was born on February 14, 1933 in Holbrook, Arizona to parents Arthur and Anna Beasley. He was part of the Towering House People Clan. He served in the US Navy during the Korean War for four years.In addition to creating beautiful jewelry, Frank was the co-founder and operator of the famous Chief Yellowhorse Trading Post, which is located in Lupton, Arizona, on Interstate 40 at the New Mexico border. The Chief Yellowhorse Trading Post started in the 1950s as a roadside stand where the Yellowhorse family sold Navajo rugs and petrified wood to tourists passing by. In the 1960s, Frank and his brother Juan "Chief Yellowhorse" built out the trading post, which included jewelry, and added gas pumps for those adventuring on Route 66. Frank was a kind and generous man who enjoyed interacting with the wide variety of people he met at the trading post.Frank and his wife, Elsie had eight children. Two of their sons are talented and well-known jewelers, Alvin Yellowhorse and Bryon Yellowhorse. Frank taught Alvin and Bryon the art of silversmithing, and they both have excelled in advancing Frank’s legacy of inlay jewelry, each in their own unique way.Frank passed away on August 13, 2020 at the age of 87.

Dan Simplicio Zuni sterling silver snake belt buckle turquoise/branch coral. Tested and guaranteed solid sterling silver with weight and measurements in pictures. Fits up to a 1" belt, circa third quarter of the 20th century. Unmarked, attributed. Dan Simplicio (1917-1969) is best known for innovative turquoise and coral settings as well as his impeccable silver work. Dan worked at C.G. Wallace’s trading post and ultimately Wallace became one of the biggest Simplicio collectors. He used branch coral it its natural form, which was unheard of during this time period. He innovated the natural coral and turquoise style of jewelry while simultaneously excelling with his silver work. He was also a master of inlay, which he did only in his formative years of which we have few examples of today. Simplicio worked with silver in a very interesting way, a way that his son credits to his time overseas in WWII. He was influenced by the French, German and Italian use of leaf patterns. It is this leaf work that sets Simplicio’s pieces apart from traditional Zuni work.
