Vintage Richard Begay Navajo sterling silver, lapis, coral inlay belt buckle. Functional with age appropriate wear, no significant issues. Richard Begay was born and raised in Navajoland, Arizona. Throughout his art classes in school, he always wanted to create the perfect shape. His first career, however, took him into the Forest Industry. He soon realized that he wanted to follow the yearnings of his heart and create beautiful jewelry. He borrowed jewelry tools from his father-in-law and set to work, learning the demanding craft of silversmithing. Richard was immediately drawn to the intricate inlay work, for which he is known for. As he perfected his craft, Richard explored different techniques of inlaying. He was always searching for the best way, the most beautiful setting, the perfect harmony of material and craft. He also developed an eye for choosing the best stones for his inlay. Turquoise and coral are his favorite, but Richard used a wide variety of stones and shells, including malachite, spiny oyster, and pacific coral. Not limited to the usual in anything he did, he also inlaid opals, sugilite, lapis and other exotic stones into his award-winning pieces. The importance of harmony in his work was echoed in his silverwork, especially his pendants. In these pieces, he incorporated important symbols from his culture. Corn was a significant gift to the People by the Creator--it represents life to the Navajo. The Yei-Be-Che is the personal link between the Navajo gods and mortal man. The Bear, one of the four animals given to the first people, embodies power and wisdom. It was provided for protection and guidance, and to ward off evil. Richard also used the Steppe Design found in the wedding baskets and recreates special times, such as the social dances he goes to. Encircling it all is his extraordinary inlay, adding color and life. The beautiful things Richard looked for exist in his creations. Richard passed away in 2013.

1970‘s Alvina Quam Zuni 14k gold bolo tie carved pyrite turquoise cluster. Tested and guaranteed solid 14k gold. Steel clip on the back. 40" long with weight and measurements in pictures, circa third quarter of the 20th century.  I was told by what I feel is a reputable source that when Alvina Quam first started she used her mothers hallmark before she made her own stamp. Known to sign her work "Alvina Q. Zuni", Alvina Quam began to make jewelry in the 1970's.  The granddaughter of Doris Ondelacy and Wayne Ondelacy; daughter of Alice Quam and Duane Quam, Alvina was taught to make jewelry by her mother.  She is listed in Gregory Schaaf's Jewelry III:M-Z book.The stones are quality American turquoise which would of course be sold by the carat even if they were not carved by Alice Quam or possibly her daughter working under her. Sherian Honhongva Hopi turquoise, coral, fossil sterling silver corn row pendant. Tested and guaranteed solid sterling silver with weight and measurements in pictures. No issues. Sherian Honhongva is a Hopi Indian of the Badger clan and lives near Hotevilla. She learned silversmithing from her uncle, the well-known Charles Loloma. Sherian began working with Charles and her older sister, Verma in 1976. She started by learning to cut stones to be inlaid into jewelry. When Charles retired, Sherian remained working with her sister under the name Sonwai. In 1993, they decided to begin working independently of each other. Sherian’s jewelry is now stamped with her own name. Her work definitely reflects years of working with Loloma in his studio. She credits both Charles and Verma with her success. She has since been the featured artist in shows at the Department of Interior, Indian Craft Shop in Washington DC, and at the Eiteljorge Museum in Indianapolis, Indiana. Her work is featured in Southwestern Indian Jewelry by Dexter Cirillo, Hopi Jewelry, and Art of the Hopi by Jerry and Lois Jacka. Sherian has also been featured in the magazine Arizona Highways.

7.25" Vintage Zuni sterling silver sunface/Chief inlay link bracelet turquoise. Tested and guaranteed solid sterling silver with weight and measurements in pictures. Circa third quarter of the 20th century with age appropriate wear.. Unmarked. Bracelets are shown in the photos with a tape measure inside the bracelet, other photos will typically show the gap size. The size at the beginning of the title includes the gap (with cuff bracelets). Almost all bracelets that don‘t have inlay work should be adjustable by at least .25", please refer to pictures for the gap size to see if it would work if slightly adjusted as the gap would change.

Roger Skeet Jr Navajo sterling silver hand stamped vintage concho belt. Fits up to a 38" waist but obviously could be worn shorter or more holes added. Tape measure shown in pics.. Weight and measurements in pictures. No damage or issues, tested and guaranteed solid sterling silver. 10 Conchos and 1 Buckle. All solid sterling silver, circa third quarter of the 20th century, hallmarked as shown. If you need holes in the belt I can put holes wherever you request. I don‘t see any holes, 40" total length. Roger Skeet Famed Navajo silversmith Roger Skeet Sr. made literally thousands of pieces for C.G. Wallace‘s trading post during his career. He is known for his excellent stamp work and innovative silversmithing. Roger Skeet Jr. ( b. 1932) succeeded his father as an excellent silversmith. He learned and worked with his father until his death in 1959. His work is hallmarked "R.S." while his father‘s work remains plain. Otherwise, their styles are extremely similar and nearly indistinguishable. Their concho belts remain as an example of their excellent work.
