Huge 1970s Jerry Roan reversible spinner coral/turquoise sterling silver pendant. Solid sterling silver tested and guaranteed with weight and measurements in the pictures. No issues, circa third quarter of the 20th century. 60‘s to early 70‘s. Jerry Roan (1919-1977) Navajo tribal native Jerry Roan (1919-1977) had a productive life as a silversmith and jewelry maker. He began actively working at silversmithing around 1968. In 1969, a year after he began smithing, he on a 1st Award at the Navajo Tribal Fair in Arizona. Roan was included in the 2002 exhibit “Jewels of the Southwest” at the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture, Santa Fe. His work is included in the collections of the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian, Washington, and the Yellowhorse Museum in Paradise Valley, Arizona.

Cecil is well known for his quality of material and meticulous workmanship in his one-of-a-kind collectible designs. He is best known for his extraordinary lapidary skills, whose signature style is creating some of the best mosaic inlay work today. Cecil worked for the Brown family, Browns Trading Company in Safford, Arizona in the mid-80‘s and had access to top grade Morenci turquoise, which he used to create many beautiful jewelry pieces. There he honed his craft before venturing out on his own and establishing his own studio. Most of Cecils pieces have a variety of colorful, inlaid materials including spiny oyster, onyx, lapis, opal and the rare Dragon Skin or Brown Spider Web turquoise. These stones are most often inlaid in asymmetrical settings. His other silverwork is classic Navajo stamp work with classically set stones.

His Hopi name was Masaqueva (Wings of the sun). He was born in the second Mesa village of Shungopavi. Not only a master jeweler, but a respected storyteller and a man of great talents. He passed away in 2010. His work is displayed in Museums across the country and in many publications.

Jan Pomianowski Turquoise, baroque pearl, Butterscotch Amber sterling necklace. Jan Pomianowski was born in Gdynia, but he has lived and worked in Kashubia for over twenty years. He graduated in painting at the State College of Fine Arts, currently functioning as the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk. He has been associated with the jewelry industry for a quarter of a century, he has been constantly developing new collections in which he often modifies style, materials, concepts and distinctions. Therefore, each jewelry has new features, which makes Jan Pomianowski‘s collections so sought after for uniqueness. In designing and creating jewelry, the artist often draws inspiration from the world of fairy tales, fairy tales, as well as from his personal experiences. An example is the story of one of the rings in our collection with the image of an owl carved in amber sitting on a branch. Owls remembered from the earliest childhood, because living in a tree neighboring his family home. Probably the effect of such an approach to work are emotions, and these are positive emotions that you experience when interacting with this jewelry. In addition to the extraordinary imagination, the artist is also characterized by reliability, precision and the ability to choose the method of implementation to the assumed concept. Finished jewelry therefore consists of detailed elements, perfectly matched to the whole, creating a unique, hand-created product. All items are color and functional. This means that the artist‘s works, in addition to their artistic function, can and do have practical functions. A notable example is the shaving kit by Jan Pomianowski, consisting of a bowl, razor with replaceable blade and brush with natural badger hair (product available in our gallery). The artist‘s commitment to his work shows his active participation in many of the most important fairs and events of the jewelery world. Jan Pomianowski participates in domestic and foreign fairs, e.g. Amberif, Inhorgenta or Tucson. An interesting anecdote is the fact that during the visit of the Norwegian Royal Couple to Poland in 2012, the then presidential couple, the State of Komorowski, gave JKM Sonji a set by Jan Pomianowski. This set was named after the queen of Poland - Anna Jagiellon and comes from the series "Great Queens".

Tommy Singer, Diné Jeweler Diné of the Navajo Nation artist Tommy Singer grew up on the Navajo Reservation and was taught silversmithing by his father, beginning at the age of seven. In the 1960s he invented the "chip-inlay" technique of using turquoise or coral chips in the silverwork. This technique has become widespread in his community. He also used stamps and work in overlay. Thomas Singer (1938 - 2014) was active ca. 1960s until his death. He was known for his silver, chip inlay jewelry. Tommy was the husband of Rose Singer, brother of Charlie Singer, William Singer, and Jackie Singer.

This has an old 60‘s-70‘s mark on the back labeling it as Bisbee, the center and the right stones look like they could be Bisbee, the other with a tad of green looks more like some higher grade Royston. I didn‘t mine these of course and probably would not confidently call them Bisbee without Bisbee having been written on the back long ago. There are many grades and forms of Bisbee.

As a young man, he attended school in Santa Fe and served in the US Marines. Ramon began his silver working career in 1978 at Hopicrafts then located near the village of Hotevilla. His designs come from his experiences in life - clouds, thunderbolts and rain - important in an area with no irrigation for crops; and bear, spider, antelope, prayer feathers, kachinas, kokopelli, corn - the clan religious symbols, the basis of Hopi life. Ramon‘s work is characterized by the very heavy weight (thickness) silver he uses and his laser like precision in cutting out his designs and meticulous background stamping - nothing but the highest quality. He is a very fine man who we are proud to call our friend! Ramon uses his name stamped into the reverse of his pieces as his hallmark. Earlier examples of his work were marked with a composite RA. Ramon lives in Hotevilla. His son Cheston was honorably discharged from the Marine Corp and graduated from Arizona State University where he obtained his Master‘s Degree in Criminal Justice. At present, Cheston is living in Artesia, NM and working as an instructor at the Federal Police Academy. Mindful of his role in encouraging the next generation of Native American artisans, Fritz has returned as an instructor to the Poeh Arts Center in Pojoaque, NM, where he was once a student. His time as a teacher has helped to strengthen his own skills as a jewelry-maker and inspires him and his students to experiment with progressive designs. Early in his life, award-winning designer, Fritz Casuse, showed natural aptitude for the arts which his family encouraged. As a graduate of the Institute of American Indian Arts, where he studied sculpture, Fritz has adapted his experience in other artistic disciplines to his jewelry. He views his jewelry as "something you can walk through," highlighting an attention to dimension and texture that offers a sense of space and wonder. Boyd Tsosie Navajo 14k gold, diamond, opal, and coral beaded necklace. All of the metal on this necklace is tested and guaranteed solid 14k gold, weight and measurements in pictures. No issues, circa last quarter of the 20th century. Natural Opal and Mediterranean coral beads and inlay outside the pendant. My monitor is off, but these pics look really bad to me. It‘s gold, it‘s beautiful. Boyd Tsosie is a jeweler who draws inspiration from the rich heritage of his Navajo traditions. Born in 1954, he has been making jewelry since he was sixteen years of age. In 1979, Boyd Tsosie was only 23. He was already among the top echelon of Southwestern jewelers / silversmiths (both past and present). Boyd was featured in Arizona Highways along with other greats like Jesse Monongye, his brother Richard Tsosie, Gibson Nez, James Little, and Larry Golsch. These Navajo silversmiths all would go on to build fine reputations and set the standards you see today for Southwest jewelry. Kenneth Begaye, a teacher at the Navajo Community College on the Navajo Reservation, inspired Boyd at a young age. Boyd gives credit to Kenneth for teaching him his trade. Kenneth Begay has been deemed the father of modern Navajo jewelry. Before Kenneth Begay, Navajo Indian Jewelry was much like it had been for the past 100 years. Navajo jewelry had a strong Spanish influence. Which is entirely understandable since it was a Mexican silversmith (who learned from the Spanish) that taught the first Navajo to work silver. Boyd considers Kenneth Begay a major influence and carries on today the work of Kenneth Begay. Boyd Tsosie continues to move Navajo jewelry forward and he, like Kenneth Begay, generously shares his knowledge with other silversmiths. Boyd, working with his brother Richard, first gained widespread recognition for his soldered flower and leaf designs. Later, he moved his jewelry designs to a more complex, contemporary look. Over the years Boyd has developed a contemporary style of work primarily in 14K gold combined with turquoise, coral, lapis, and sugilite. Boyd feels that he is creating “tomorrows tradition in Navajo jewelry by being given the rights and prayers by his elders to create his special pieces. He is featured in Navajo Indian Jewelry and Enduring Traditions by Jerry and Lois Jacka and North American Indian Jewelry and Adornment by Lois Dubin. In recent years, Boyd and his son have given back to the Navajo Nation with a nonprofit to give counsel and help to those with substance challenges.

Blackinton & Co Founded North Attleboro, MA As the Civil War raged, Roswell Blackinton (Susanne Ross Blackinton-Juaires great-great-grandfather) co-founded R. Blackinton & Co with Walter Ballou; a full silver house that specialized in silver and goldsmithing, engraving, enameling, metal spinning, and more. The company stands as a significant chapter in the history of American silverware and jewelry manufacturing. Into the early 20th century, R. Blackinton & Company increased its lines to include, at various times, sterling silver jewelry, dresser ware, fancy table pieces, novelties, and 14 karat gold merchandise. In 1937, the company added an exclusive line of fine Sterling flatware and hollowware for retail jewelers. It remained for over 100 years under the management of its founding families until its sale in 1967. One of the companys notable achievements occurred in the mid-1960s when their Marie Louise flatware pattern was selected by the U.S. State Department. c1940 Santo Domingo Battery bird Necklace 22.5" long, no damage, weight and measurements in pictures. During the Great Depression of the 1930s, Native American artists often used scrap materials including 78 rpm phonograph records, car battery casings (hard rubber), and red plastic dinnerware such as Dairy Queen spoons. This collectible, museum-quality tab necklace is a great example of Depression Era jewelry.

Roie Jaque Navajo sterling larger turquoise pendant, no damage, weight and measurements in pictures. Solid sterling silver from the last quarter of the 20th century. Marked as shown. Having the bloodlines from 3 different Native American tribes, Roie‘s affiliation belongs to the Navajo, Acoma and Apache tribes. He was brought up Navajo and taught the Navajo culture. He speaks, writes and reads the Navajo language. Wearing a few different hats, Roie has not only been a master silversmith for nearly a 1/2 of century, but also wears the hat of a weaver, which he learned this particular art from his mother. Using the wool that‘s taken from his own sheep, Roie then shears the wool, washes and cleans the wool then cards and spins the wool into yarn.

Etsitty-Tsosie, Eskiesosie (Dine, c.1880-1937) attrib. Silver Squash Blossom Necklace. One nearly identical sold as part of the C.G. Wallace Collection of American Indian Art . (1975: lot 215) Sotheby‘s Park Bernet. Then again Sep 18, 2020 at Cowan‘s for $8750 including BP. That one had the same identical stamps at the bottom of the discs. To me they were obviously both made by the same hand and it‘s very subjective which one is better. 21" long, other measurements in pictures. This is basically the same size/weight as the one previously sold. Etsitty Tsosie was active from 1910-1937 and passed away in 1937. Best known for his beautiful stamp work and repousse pieces. He worked for trader C.G. Wallace for a period of time and was commissioned to produce stamps. He and Hosteen Goodluck worked closely together creating many of the early concho belts and other detailed pieces of jewelry. Several of his pieces were featured in the C.G. Wallace collection. Mentioned in the John Adair 1944 book, Eskiesose (C.G. Wallace‘s questionable spelling) preferred to work without strangers watching him, as he insisted his silver would not melt correctly.

24" Foree Hunsicker Sterling Luggage Tag/Medal Charm Necklace 24" total length. Weight and measurements in pictures. The whole necklace is sterling. I believe it was all made by Foree Hunsicker and has always been like this. Not every piece is marked. Foree Hunsicker (1932-2015) In 1954, she graduated from the University of Texas with a degree in art. At UT, she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. Later, she studied at Corcoran Gallery in Washington, DC and the Arts Students League in New York City. Foree always had an artistic bent. At various times, she was a painter, clothes designer, and interior decorator. Her greatest success, however, came as a jewelry manufacturer when she started a company in 1987 called Medalias by Foree Hunsicker. At one time employing nearly fifty people, Medalias specialized in luggage tag jewelry, reproducing in sterling silver a wide variety of Victorian-era luggage tags and fashioning them into earrings, necklaces, and other accessories. A fixture for many years in the North Texas design world and at the Apparel Mart, Foree was honored with a Dallas Fashion Award in 1995.

Solid sterling silver, hallmarked as shown with what appears to be 74 inside hallmark which is likely the date as this is obviously to me a piece from that era. Very substantial and great, very attractive turquoise looks like Royston/Nevada turquoise.

Vintage Saguaro Cactus sterling, turquoise, and coral squash blossom necklace. 29" total length, 340 grams, other measurements in pics. This appears to have been restrung some time ago and while 95% of the beads are solid sterling silver and Native American made, there are 9 which appear to be silver plated brass some with worn plating. They are close to the Naja, the round beads with no seams. Still and nice large, rare, if not one of a kind squash blossom.
