sz8 Ben Nighthorse Campbell (Cheyenne, b. 1933) Sterling and turquoise ring<br><br>Ben Nighthorse Campbell was born to a poor family in Auburn, California in 1933.<br>He grew up to be a Northern Cheyenne chief, Korean War veteran, judo wrestler,<br>U.S. Olympian, jewelry designer and the first Native American serving in the<br>U.S. Senate.<br><br>Campbell dropped out of high school and joined the air force, serving in the<br>Korean War. While serving in the military he received his GED high school<br>diploma. He studied the martial arts and became a judo wrestler. He captained<br>the judo team in the 1964 Olympics in Tokyo. After returning to the States he<br>graduated from San Diego State University with a degree in physical education<br>and fine arts. He also attended Meiji University in Tokyo and received more than<br>200 awards for his jewelry designs.<br><br>Campbell began his political career in 1982 becoming a state legislator in the<br>state of Colorado. In 1987 he moved to the U.S. House of Representatives and<br>then in 1992 became a senator from Colorado. He was reelected in 1998.<br><br>Senator Campbell serves as a member of the Appropriations Committee, Energy and<br>Natural Resources Committee, Veteran’s Affairs Committee and the Indian Affairs<br>Committee. He also chairs the Helsinki Commission. He was the first Native<br>American ever to chair the Indian Affairs Committee. He has worked to pass<br>legislation settling Native American water rights and protecting Colorado’s<br>wilderness areas. sz8 Benny Armijo Navajo Modernist silver Sugilite, Coral, turquoise ring. Has the artists CM hallmark, somehow the photographer missed it, I‘ll try to follow up with a pic of the mark. No issues, weight and measurements in pics Benny Armijo (1937-2022).   Benny was a renowned master Navajo silversmith who specialized in this complex inlay and "corn row" type cobblestone inlay using high quality stones.  His jewelry was featured on the Oprah Winfrey show and was collected by many high-profile artists from James Taylor, Charlie Daniels, to Hank Williams Jr. His pieces can be seen on many album covers of top music groups and are highly collectable today. His incredible sense of humor was as well-known as his jewelry. He was simply the most generous man that one could ever imagine, always helping complete strangers he encountered along the way. He was active from the early 70's until the late 20th century..   His older mark from the 1970's looks like a tadpole and has been misattributed to "Edward Zuni", but I'm 100% sure this is Benny Armijo's work and hallmark, it's been confirmed by his living relatives.   Benny was born in Santa Fe, New Mexico Benito M Armijo Jr  The older stamp he first used was to represent the letter C and letter M which stood for Chief Marcos. Many years later maybe around 1989 he stamped his jewelry with Benny Armijo. He lived in California for many years and returned to New Mexico and passed away January 2022. He was known for his stone inlay on what he called a Hopi wedding band in which all the stones were inlaid inside the ring or bracelet. Giving the thought that the beauty between the couple is in the eye of the beholder and the couple would choose the different color of stones and their meanings to be inlaid on their wedding bands.  Women's Size 8 Ring.

Zuni silversmith, Dan Simplicio (1917-1969) learned the art of jewelry making from his uncle, Juan DeDios, one of the earliest Zuni silversmiths. Although this World War II veteran only had about 30 short years of jewelry making, his talent and techniques are still recognized. Simplicio is one of the first known artists to begin incorporating natural red coral branches and rough-cut coral nuggets into his jewelry. As early as 1931, it is also said that he is possibly one of the first Zuni artists to begin using gold. Simplicio worked at C.G. Wallace’s trading post and collaborated with amazing Zuni artists including Leekya Deyuse, Teddie Weahkee, Leo Poblano, Bernard Homer and Lee Edakkie. Throughout his time, he developed an inapt ability to create stunning leaf motifs with intricate stamps and carved details, beginning his signature balance of delicate leaf work and heavy turquoise and coral designs. sz8.5 Benny Armijo (1937-2022) Navajo silver modernist corn row ring. No significant issues, measurements in pics. The marks on the rim are part of the casting, it was made to look "weathered". Benny Armijo (1937-2022).   Benny was a renowned master Navajo silversmith who specialized in this complex inlay and "corn row" type cobblestone inlay using high quality stones.  His jewelry was featured on the Oprah Winfrey show and was collected by many high-profile artists from James Taylor, Charlie Daniels, to Hank Williams Jr. His pieces can be seen on many album covers of top music groups and are highly collectable today. His incredible sense of humor was as well-known as his jewelry. He was simply the most generous man that one could ever imagine, always helping complete strangers he encountered along the way. He was active from the early 70's until the late 20th century..   His older mark from the 1970's looks like a tadpole and has been misattributed to "Edward Zuni", but I'm 100% sure this is Benny Armijo's work and hallmark, it's been confirmed by his living relatives.   Benny was born in Santa Fe, New Mexico Benito M Armijo Jr  The older stamp he first used was to represent the letter C and letter M which stood for Chief Marcos. Many years later maybe around 1989 he stamped his jewelry with Benny Armijo. He lived in California for many years and returned to New Mexico and passed away January 2022. He was known for his stone inlay on what he called a Hopi wedding band in which all the stones were inlaid inside the ring or bracelet. Giving the thought that the beauty between the couple is in the eye of the beholder and the couple would choose the different color of stones and their meanings to be inlaid on their wedding bands.
