12.75" Michael Wainwright/Sandra Baccus Amalfi Venice Service plate/charger. Selling one of these with another available by changing qty at the time of listing, also different sized plates listed separately. I'm not totally sure if this is the Turquoise Amalfi or a different color designed exclusively for Sandra Baccus whom was a very important collector of African American art among many other things, she donated her multi-million dollar collection after her death in 2012. These plates are like new with no wear or damage, selling the plate shown with one more available. All Michael Wainwright pieces are finished with real 24K gold and real platinum. These plates are heavy and beautiful. They measure 12.5" in diameter. Many of Wainwrights designs evolved out of studies in Italy, his love of nature, his appreciation of fine art. Because he comes from the Studio ceramic art world, he creates wabi-sabi (the art of imperfection)handmade details in every piece. Inspirations of late, include the Japanese technique of Kintsugi, (Mezza Collection) and artists such as Gustav Klimt, (Vienna Collection) among others. Wainwright created his first collection of tableware in 1991, the same year he founded his company. He initially sold his wares at street fairs and craft markets, but it wasn't long before he was discovered by high-end retailers. By 1995 Wainwright's collections were being sold in national and independent luxury goods stores across the country. Today, Michael Wainwright Inc. has evolved from a one-man operation to a well-established presence in the luxury goods marketplace. His designs can be found in such luxe stores as Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdales , as well as smaller fine home stores and boutiques. Wainwright is the sole designer of every piece in his collections. Regardless of material, almost all his work is finished with 24k gold or platinum, and all designed in his Great Barrington, MA studio.

12.75" Texas Studio Art Glass Vase Michael McDougal 7" wide
12.75" Texas Studio Art Glass Vase Michael McDougal 7" wide No cracks, chips, scratches, or restorations. Inspired by nature and known for his sense of color and elegant whimsy, Glass artist Michael McDougal lives and works in the Texas Hill Country. He was introduced to glass by Jane Duryea, protégé of Robert Willson and went on to study at the Corning Museum of Glass in New York, the prestigious Pilchuck Glass School in Washington State, under Jane Bruce, Claire Kelly & Antony Schafermeyer and Boyd Sugiki. McDougal has spent time in the "fornaces" of Murano, Italy, as well. Today, he works with his friend and mentor Jason Lawson in studios in Fischer, Texas, a small town north of San Antonio. "Glass is an astoundingly versatile medium," says McDougal."It has an inherent music in it. Working with it in molten form is rhythmic… more of a dance than a process.” Michael Monroe, former curator and director of the Smithsonian Institution's Renwick Gallery describes a pitcher from McDougal's collection as "…capturing the essence of molten glass in a moment of frozen elegance. The handle, with its dynamic but delicate pattern is beautifully integrated to give both a sense of motion and balance to the piece." "Whether appreciating it or creating it, I love art that elicits a sense of wonder, a sense of awe, makes me grin or laugh," says McDougal. "Whether an exploration of beauty, whimsy, or that huge realm of the unknown, it must remind me that all our human stresses and strains are insignificant.” McDougal's work is featured in galleries throughout Texas and California. He has been featured in shows in Dallas, Fort Worth, San Antonio, Houston and Galveston, among other cities.

1329 Gram Labradorite Specimen
1329 Gram Labradorite Specimen. 7 3/8" x 3.5" x 2", large polished specimen. There are few gemstones that display the 'play-of-color' phenomenon better than Labradorite, reds, blues, purples, yellows and more dance before your eyes as it turns in your hand but there is much more to discover about this rare beauty. The Schiller effect, labradorescence, light interference, lattice distortions are some of the scientific explanations for flashes of color in Labradorite gemstones which we can go into later but perhaps the Inuit people of Labrador in Canada explain it best by saying that the Northern Lights or Aurora Borealis were trapped within Labradorite rocks. The story goes that a mighty Eskimo warrior freed the colors that dazzle the Polar skies with blows from his spear but could not break all the rocks leaving a number of Labradorite gemstones for us to collect then carve, polish and admire to this very day. isshelf
