G.A.R. civil War Veteran GAR Annual Encampment Medals/Watch Fobs 1896, 1904, 1905, 1906, 1914, 1915 Ohio. The 1896 is missing the pin from the back, the rest are in good condition. These are all from the same civil war veteran. I believe the last name was Wayland. The Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) was a fraternal organization composed of veterans of the Union Army (United States Army), Union Navy (U.S. Navy), Marines and the U.S. Revenue Cutter Servicewho served in the American Civil War. Founded in 1866 in Springfield, Illinois, and growing to include hundreds of posts (local community units) across the nation (predominately in the North, but also a few in the South and West), it was dissolved in 1956 at the death of its last member, Albert Woolson (1850–1956) of Duluth, Minnesota. Linking men through their experience of the war, the G.A.R. became among the first organized advocacy groups in American politics, supporting voting rights for black veterans, promoting patriotic education, helping to make Memorial Day a national holiday, lobbying the United States Congress to establish regular veterans' pensions, and supporting Republican political candidates. Its peak membership, at more than 490,000, was in 1890, a high point of various Civil War commemorative and monument dedication ceremonies. The 5.75" plate or saucer is signed with an early 19th<br>century derby mark, the cup and saucer matches but I think it may be Spode. The<br>other cup and saucer with birds is early 19th century but I didn't research the<br>maker. Only one piece has damage and that's the saucer with birds on it. It has<br>a tight very old stable hairline that can hardly be seen from the front. Selling<br>the lot.

Nice piece with clean paint with minimal wear shown in pics. Heavy for it's size as it's solid bronze, almost two pounds. 5' base x 3 1/8" tall. I couldn't find any markings but am certain it's turn of the century austrian bronze most likely bergman. Franz Bergman was an Austrian entrepreneur best known for his Viennese foundry which produced many patina- and cold-painted bronze sculptures of figures, animals, Orientalist scenes, and mythological creatures. Bergman is often misidentified as a sculptor, but he himself was not the original artist for the works—rather, he hired many anonymous sculptors to execute his ideas. He signed many of the works produced by his foundry with the pseudonym Nam Greb, so as to conceal his name from the authorities and avoid penalties for immorality. Born in 1861 in Vienna, Austria, he initially inherited a bronze factory from his father and later opened his own foundry. Bergman died in 1936 in Vienna, Austria

This is estate fresh, I don't believe<br>it's a married set. c1915 22" Bronze Sculpture of Salome with John the Baptist's Head by Philipp<br>Modrow<br><br>A rare work from a rather obscure sculptor, this example captures the famous<br>Biblical scene of Salome with John the Baptist's head. Herod's second wife,<br>Herodias, originally the wife of his brother Philip, had her daughter Salome<br>dance before Herod and his entire court in hopes of manipulating him against<br>John the Baptist. John was outspoken in his reproach of Herod for taking his<br>brother's wife and Herodias wanted him executed for this, though Herod would not<br>comply. However, greatly pleased by her dancing and drunk with his guests, Herod<br>promised to give Salome anything she asked for, up to half of his kingdom.<br>Salome asked to have the head of John the Baptist on a plate, as he was<br>presently held in the king's prisons. Placed in an awkward position in front of<br>his court, he was forced to grant her request despite his own personal<br>objections. The scene is moving in it's exceptional rendering of Salome's<br>careless and selfish nature. She clutches her prize with a certain grotesque<br>pleasure, an unsettling image of one so led astray for the vengeance of her<br>mother to an empty and ugly result. Modrow has sculpted her ingeniously to be<br>equal parts beautiful and repulsive. She stands before a naturalistic rock<br>backdrop. The sculpture is signed on the right and impressed by the foundry on<br>the left. Philipp Modrow (German, 1882-1925) is documented in the E. Benezit<br>Dictionary of Artists (Gründ, Vol. IX, p. 1080) as being the student of Emil<br>Cauer Jr. and that he is noted for his 1923 sculpture "Monument to Spengler" in<br>Davos, where he died in December of 1925.

Both<br>with ground Pontils, creamer marked #130, they glow under blacklight.<br><br>Burmese glass is a type of opaque colored art glass, shading from yellow to<br>pink. It is found in either the rare original "shiny" finish or the more common<br>"satin" finish. It is used for table glass and small, ornamental vases and<br>dressing table articles.<br><br>It was made in 1885 by the Mount Washington Glass Company of New Bedford,<br>Massachusetts, USA. Burmese glass found favor with Queen Victoria. From 1886,<br>the British company of Thomas Webb & Sons was licensed to produce the glass.<br>Their version, known as Queen's Burmeseware, which was used for tableware and<br>decorative glass, often with painted decoration. Burmese was also made after<br>1970 by the Fenton art glass company.<br><br>Burmese is a uranium glass. The formula to produce Burmese Glass contains<br>uranium oxide with tincture of gold added. The uranium oxide produced the<br>inherent soft yellow color of Burmese glass. Because of the added gold, the<br>characteristic pink blush of color of Burmese was fashioned by re-heating the<br>object in the furnace. Rose<br>was credited as the innovator of deep carved pottery around 1930 at San<br>Ildefonso. Rose Gonzales sometimes collaborated with her son, Tse-Pé, especially<br>in duotones. Rose signed her pottery, Rose Cata, Rose Cata Gonzales, and Rosa<br>Gonzales.

Antique Gambling Whist Set in Mother of Pearl Marquetry Box. Appears complete.<br>52 cards in each deck. Some wear to cards, but good condition for their age,<br>flap missing on one card box. I believe the box and pieces to be circa 1870's. I<br>don't know enough about cards to guarantee them that old, but they are very old.<br>Box measures 6 7/8" x 10 1/8" x 2.25". Large box is in good condition with thin<br>cracks in verneer. Small boxes that hold markers missing some of the top pieces<br>that hold lids on.
