Selling the 8 pcs shown with<br>no damage or significant wear.<br><br><br><br>Steuben Glass is an American art glass manufacturer, founded in the summer of<br>1903 by Frederick Carder and Thomas G. Hawkes in Corning, New York, which is<br>in Steuben County, from which the company name was derived. Hawkes was the owner<br>of the largest cut glass firm then operating in Corning. Carder was an<br>Englishman (born September 18, 1863) who had many years' experience designing<br>glass for Stevens & Williams in England. Hawkes purchased the glass blanks for<br>his cutting shop from many sources and eventually wanted to start a factory to<br>make the blanks himself. Hawkes convinced Carder to come to Corning and manage<br>such a factory. Carder, who had been passed over for promotion at Stevens and<br>Williams, consented to do so. In 1918, Steuben was acquired by Corning Glass<br>Works and became the Steuben Division. In July 2008, Steuben was sold by Corning<br>Incorporated for an undisclosed price to Schottenstein Stores,[2] which also<br>owns 51% of Retail Ventures, a holding company for DSW, Filene's Basement, and<br>formerly Value City Department Stores; Value City Furniture, which changed its<br>name to American Signature Furniture; 15% of American Eagle Outfitters, retail<br>liquidator SB Capital Group, some 50 shopping centers, and 5 factories producing<br>its shoes, furniture and crystal. On September 15, 2011, Schottenstein announced<br>it was shutting down Steuben's Corning factory and Manhattan store, ending the<br>company's 108-year history. Soon after, Corning Incorporated repurchased the<br>Steuben brand. In early 2014, The Corning Museum of Glass announced that it<br>would work with independent contractors to reproduce Steuben using a new,<br>lead-free formula and their classic leaded crystal. Carder period<br>(1903-1932)[edit] Steuben Glass Works started operation in October 1903. Carder<br>produced blanks for Hawkes and also began producing cut glass himself. Carder's<br>great love was colored glass and had been instrumental in the reintroduction of<br>colored glass while at Stevens and Williams. When Steuben's success at producing<br>blanks for Hawkes became assured, Carder began to experiment with colored glass<br>and continued experiments that were started in England. He soon perfected Gold<br>Aurene which was similar to iridescent art glass that was being produced<br>by Tiffany and others. Gold Aurene was followed by a wide range of colored art<br>glass that eventually was produced in more than 7,000 shapes and 140 colors.<br>These are a pair of handblown Steuben gold Aurene glass candlesticks designed by<br>Frederick Carder for the Steuben Glass Works, ca. 1913. (From a private<br>collection in Manhattan, New York.)Steuben Glass Works continued to produce<br>glass of all sorts until World War I. At that time war time restrictions made it<br>impossible for Steuben to acquire the materials needed to continue manufacture.<br>The company was subsequently sold to Corning Glass Works and became the Steuben<br>Division. Carder continued as Division manager without any real change in the<br>company's operation except that he now had reporting responsibilities to Corning<br>Glass Works' management. Corning's management tried, mostly unsuccessfully, to<br>limit the articles that Steuben made to only the most popular. Production<br>continued until about 1932. In 1932, there was a major change in Steuben<br>management. The nationwide depression had limited the sale of Steuben and there<br>was a lessening of public interest in colored glass. In February 1932, John<br>MacKay was appointed to Carder's position. Carder became Art Director for<br>Corning Glass Works. Steuben then produced primarily colorless art glass.<br>Steuben still produced colored art glass, but mostly to fill special orders. A<br>few new colors were added after Carder transitioned into his new role with<br>Corning Glass Works, but the last known sale for colored art glass by Steuben<br>was in 1943. Houghton period (1933–2012) An example of Steuben Glass design<br>during the Houghton era is the Balustrade Candlestick set, which mimics a<br>classical balustrade. Of special note is the hallmark of the perfectly formed<br>tear drop air bubble suspended in the design.Corning Glass Works<br>appointed Arthur A. Houghton Jr. as President in 1933, and under his leadership<br>Steuben changed artistic direction toward more modern forms. Using a newly<br>formulated clear glass developed by Corning (referred to as 10M) which had a<br>very high refraction index, Steuben designers developed beautiful, fluid<br>designs. Pieces such as Gazelle Bowl, designed by Sidney Waugh incorporated Art<br>Deco and modernist themes into glass. The themes during this period included<br>"balustrade" designs for water goblets and candlesticks, footed bowls and<br>serving pieces. Decorative forms included wildlife pieces representing owls,<br>penguins and other birds in smooth stylistic forms. Some pieces, such as the<br>Ram's Head Candy Dish, playfully included clean lines crowned by an ornate<br>design (a ram's head, complete with a ruff) on the lid as an homage to its<br>classic earlier pieces. The company also entered into the field of larger show<br>and presentation pieces celebrating various scenes (such as its cut-away design<br>featuring an Eskimo ice fisherman above the ice, and the fish below, or the<br>Cathedral Window design) and elements that incorporated etchings. In some cases<br>sterling silver or gold plating were used on metal finish elements such as the<br>golden "fly" atop the nose of a rainbow trout. Each piece is signed simply with<br>"Steuben" on the underside of the object. Toward the 1990s, the company also<br>began production of small objects—"hand coolers"—in various animal shapes. Items<br>from this period were also noted for their careful and elegant packaging. Before<br>boxing, each Steuben piece was placed in a silver-gray flannel bag (stitched<br>with the Steuben name), and then placed in a presentation box.<br><br><br><br>tw274

  • 1922 Royal Copenhagen Rundskuedagen Vase Upside down Day - Estate Fresh Austin

1922 Royal Copenhagen Rundskuedagen Vase Upside down Day

    1 in stock

No damage whatsoever 6" tall. Rundskuedag is a Danish folk holiday during which everyone does things backwards or upside down.  I have heard it translated as "Upside Down Day" but I often think of it as "Skewed 'Round Day" (a transliteration of Rund-skue-dag).  Typically, bosses join the workers and one of the workers becomes the boss, and everybody has a good time doing things differently for one day of the year.  Street entertainment is prevalent, and special events and sales are held to raise money for charity.  Royal Copenhagen issued this series of vases as souvenirs of the day, with the proceeds going to charity.  (Anyone with Danish ancestry who would like to expand or correct this description, please contact me!) The first Rundskuedagen vase was produced in 1910, and  they continued every year through at least 1942. They were made in many shapes and sizes, often with a scene of a Copenhagen landmark on the vase, and always with the inscription RUNDSKUEDAG  (or RUNDSKUEDAGEN) and the date.  The designs are first molded into vase, and then handpainted, mostly in cobalt blue, in the same manner as Christmas plates.  Some years are highlighted with additional colors.

    1 in stock

1929 Latvian Sterling silver 5 Laati Coin pin. Pin made from real 90+ year old silver coin, no issues. Buying the exact pin shown. Weight and measurements in pics. 5 lati coin minted in 1929, 1931 and 1932. It became a popular symbol of independence during the Soviet occupation. In February 1929, the Latvian Ministry of Finance decided to issue a ? 5 circulation coin depicting the head of a maiden, which would symbolize the Republic of Latvia and freedom. The coin was designed by Rihards Zariņš. The image of the maiden on the coin is colloquially known as Milda (a Latvian female name). The model was Zelma Brauere (1900-1977), a proofreader of the State Securities Printing House. She served as a model for other works of the artist, including the ? 10 and ? 20 banknotes and the 50s coin. In 1939, the Latvian government prepared to mint new ? 5 coins to be issued in 1941. The Latvian maiden was to be replaced by a portrait of the authoritarian leader of Latvia, Kārlis Ulmanis. Those coins were never minted as the Second World War broke out. Say the truth, it is one ot the most beautiful silver coin issued in 1920s. An the value for this coins goes high every year. You can find this coins in my store, but here you have a chance to get absolutely amazing item - Brooch from Silver Latvian Coin!

Buddha is 14.25" tall x 9.5<br>" wide. This set is fully functional, hinge is good, snaps shut and stays<br>shut...but it is pushing 100 years old and if I personally were to actually use<br>this which I think would be great as it's extremely fun.. Still I would put<br>something behind it for Buddha's head to rest on while it's open or put it close<br>to a wall as I had it for the pics just to not put too much stress on the 90 or<br>so year old hinge as the top is rather heavy.<br><br>These were also made in pink in green, this is the most rare and desirable<br>color.

Huge c1930‘s Navajo pearls/Fred Harvey thunderbird pendant. Both pendant and necklace from the second quarter of the 20th century. Beads have worn stampings if you look closely. Necklace 28" long, beaded part extends 7" up on each side. Pendant 4" x 4". previous owners initials on back of pendant. I feel stupid for having to say this, but all solid sterling/high content silver. Leather possibly not original, but old enough to look good, and young enough that it doesn‘t seem brittle. Below is the history of this pendant and I believe the beads.  It is rare with very interesting historical significance 1/5 or 1/55, something like that and the beads have significance also. Thunderbird History The Thunderbirds Lasting Legacy to the Valley of the Sun   Longevity has often been called the hallmark of success.  The silver pendant of The Thunderbirds is emblematic of continuous civic pride and unrivaled success in the promotion of the Phoenix area. Through 89 years, The Thunderbirds and the WM Phoenix Open have provided so much for so many. The spirit created has provided a lasting legacy for everyone. Synonymous with The Thunderbirds is the WM Phoenix Open, one of the most exciting sporting events in Arizona. Every January/February, the WM Phoenix Open attracts record crowds and is recognized as one of the most popular golf events on the PGA TOUR.  Scottie Scheffler took home the 2023 title and the host Thunderbirds raised millions of dollars from the 2023 event to hand out to 100’s of local charities. In recent years, PGA TOUR players voted the WM Phoenix Open as their favorite stop of the PGA TOUR and has been named Tournament of the Year by the PGA TOUR times. While The Thunderbirds’ association with professional athletes garners the most recognition and publicity, it is their work in the community that brings them the most satisfaction. Millions of dollars of Phoenix Open proceeds have been spent to benefit hundreds of organizations and individuals, most notably, the courageous athletes of the Special Olympics, youngsters of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Scottsdale, Phoenix and East Valley and the affiliated agencies of the Valley of the Sun United Way. As the premier sponsor of the Special Olympics Summer Games, The Thunderbirds are providing an outlet of athletic expression for these challenged competitors. Nowhere will you witness the absolute joy and enthusiasm of a runner as he or she crosses the finish line, not in first place, but in the arms of his or her greeter. This unbridled passion for competition speaks volumes of The Thunderbirds’ commitment to these determined individuals. From caring for the underprivileged to helping those striving to make the United States Olympic teams, The Thunderbirds are doing all they can to make a difference for those who call Phoenix their home. The Thunderbirds began in 1937, when the Phoenix Chamber of Commerce expanded its role as a convention and tourism bureau. There was a need for a special events committee to venture into new fields. Five young executives were selected to lead the committee. The Phoenix Chamber of Commerce suggested that the committee become an “official” group and expand its membership. Each of the five then selected ten additional members to make up a committee of 55. The Thunderbird name was chosen because the emblem of the Phoenix Chamber of Commerce was a Thunderbird derived from American Indian symbols. One of the early inductees was Bob Goldwater, an avid golfer. Goldwater thought it would be a great idea to sponsor a golf tournament. That first year, Goldwater sold the tickets, recruited volunteers and set up the golf course at the Phoenix Country Club. The Phoenix Open caught on, and is one of the leading stops on the PGA TOUR. Goldwater was Tournament Chairman from 1934 through 1951 and is affectionately called the “Father of The Phoenix Open.” Active Thunderbird membership is limited to 55 members. Each has demonstrated a sincere interest in sports and a dedication to community affairs. All Thunderbird activities and events are the prime responsibility of these Active Thunderbirds and are under the watchful eye of the Big Chief and Thunderbird Council. When a Thunderbird reaches the age of 45, their status changes from Active to that of Life Member. Although they are relieved of continuous duties, it is not unusual to see a Life Thunderbird lending a helping hand at The WM Phoenix Open or one of the many other Thunderbird-sponsored events. To date, there are nearly 350 members comprising The Thunderbirds organization. Thunderbirds wear large silver pendants suspended on leather thongs, and each year a Bead Committee awards silver beads to those members who have performed their respective duties with quality and efficiency. Thunderbird-sponsored athletes participate in the entire spectrum of sports; but it is in golf that The Thunderbirds have had the most impact. Each year, The Thunderbirds sponsor The Thunderbird Collegiate Invitational. Now in its 37th year, this tournament is considered by many as the “WM Phoenix Open of Collegiate Golf.” It is a proven springboard into the PGA TOUR. Players like Bobby Clampett, Corey Pavin, Dan Forsman, Howard Twitty, Jim Carter, Notah Begay, Phil Mickelson, Steve Jones, Tiger Woods, Tom Purtzer and a host of others have participated in this illustrious event. Proceeds from the tournament benefit the men’s and women¹s golf programs at Arizona State University. Every summer, The Thunderbirds sponsor the Thunderbird Junior and Senior Golf Classics, which form the nucleus of one of the most extensive junior golf programs in the United States. These tournaments have showcased the talents of current PGA TOUR and LPGA stars like Billy Mayfair and Danielle Ammaccapane. In 1999, The Thunderbirds, in conjunction with the American Junior Golf Association, held the inaugural Thunderbird International Junior at Grayhawk Golf Club. The first event of its kind in junior golf brought together a world-class field of Polo Golf All-Americans and U.S. and International champions of junior golf from throughout the world. This event will annually feature future champions of the golfing world. The Thunderbirds and The WM Phoenix Open form a winning combination whose success is matched only by its longevity.

1930's Ronson Art Metal Works English Bulldog Table Lighter

    1 in stock

1930's Ronson Art Metal Works English Bulldog Table Lighter. 4.5" tall x 5.25" long. rare and unusual.Along with the Touch Tip, the Striker lighters are probably the most desirable Ronson Lighters for collectors. It is evident the craftsmanship that the Art Metal Works put into these well made lighters. To use striker lighters, one pulls out the wand, which is resting in lighter fluid, from the top of the dog’s head. Then sliding the wand down the flint on the dog’s snout will cause a spark and ignite the tip of the wand. Ronson offered a variety of animal striker lighters. Some of the other animals include an elephant, a very Art Deco pelican and a bear. The Ronson lighter company started as The Art Metal Works in 1897 and was incorporated on July 20, 1898, by Max Hecht, Louis Vincent Aronson and Leopold Herzig, in Newark, New Jersey.Louis V. Aronson was a huge creative driving force for the company; and, with a few business adjustments, including the addition of Alexander Harris (1910-11)[4][5] as Business Manager, the company soon became World Famous. All accounts state that Louis Aronson was a gifted man, who at 16 years old set up a money-making shop in his parents' home - before receiving a U.S. patent for a commercially valuable metal-plating process he developed when he was 24 years old, and he sold half the rights while retaining the Right to Use. "His experiments, which he has been conducting since his early youth, resulted in 1893 in the discovery of a process for electrically producing tinplate. Much money was expended upon improving the process... and has been of great practical value to the whole industry.[7] Retaining its rights, he sold half the patent rights, and later used part of the proceeds to open the Art Metal Works in Newark, N.J.[8] Soon the company was producing a variety of high-quality Lamps, Book ends, Art Statues and other decorative items, prized today for their detail in the collector marketplace.tw154

1933 University of Texas 50 year Anniversary Magic Lantern Slides George Littlefield Brackenridge Hall. Ok, the newest these can be is the thirties, they may be older. I'm assuming they are the same age. The one that just say's University had some writing on the outside that I didn't realize was on the outside when I cleaned them. I know I remember the word fifty. These are actual slides of course and nothing is going to clean off of them, I was very careful I just didn't see that was on the outside. I wouldn't mention it but I think it might help date them as I think they are one of a kind slides from the University. I think these were custom ordered by the University and likely shown at an important event there. I have no idea, but these are the only three I have. The one with the writing that came off has a crack in the corner, no other cracks or chips on the others. 4" x 3.5".  They are backlit in the pictures.   isshelf

1930's Yale Town Padlock From Mount Royal Hotel Baltimore MD with Room key and Tag. This is a cool set I'm certain it's been together since it's beginning. The lock works with the key inside it. This was likely Hotel property as. The Mount Royal Hotel and Apartments were designed in 1899 by the well-respected Baltimore architect, Edward H. Glidden. The Neo-Italian Renaissance style buildings were constructed in early 1900; the 103 East Mount Royal Avenue building served as an upscale hotel and the 101 East Mount Royal Avenue building contained all upscale apartments. Centered in the rich artistic and cultural life concentrated in the then city’s center, Mount Vernon, Baltimore, The Mount Royal Hotel and Apartments were a very desirable place to visit as a hotel guest, or to live in as a resident of the apartments. Once the Pennsylvania Train Station was completed in 1911, The Mount Royal’s appeal only increased, as the property’s location attracted daily commuters to and from Washington, DC. Even in 1911, the train ride from Penn Station to Union Station was just 40 minutes. b12

    1 in stock

1933 Boy Scout Silver Beaver Award With Certificate Frank Griffin Saginaw<br>Michigan. Exremely rare identified example with full sized 11" x 13 5/8"<br>certificate. The medal itself is solid sterling marked so weighing about 48<br>grams. This was awarded 2 years after the award was created so it is extremely<br>rare to find one this early especially named with the certificate.<br><br>I have a fairly large lot of Frank Griffin‘s Scouting items going back to the<br>20‘s. This listing is for this medal and certificate which I know to be<br>extremely important, I‘m still trying to decide how to do the rest of the lot as<br>I know it might be irresponsible to split it up. It ranges from the 20‘s to the<br>60‘s with photographs from the first quarter of the 20th century, scoutmaster<br>paperwork from the 20‘s and 30‘s, merit badges with paperwork, etc.<br><br>ABOUT THE AWARD<br><br>The Silver Beaver Award is the council-level distinguished service award of the<br>Boy Scouts of America. Upon nomination by their local Scout council and with the<br>approval of the National Court of Honor, recipients of this award are registered<br>adult leaders who have made an impact on the lives of youth through service<br>given to the council.[1] The Silver Beaver is an award given to those who<br>implement the Scouting program and perform community service through hard work,<br>self-sacrifice, dedication, and many years of service. It is given to those who<br>do not seek it.<br><br>Award<br>The medal consists of a silver beaver pendant suspended from a blue and white<br>ribbon worn around the neck. Recipients may wear the corresponding square knot,<br>with a white strand over a blue strand, on the BSA uniform. There is also a<br>lapel pin authorized and available for civilian wear.<br><br>Using the United States Military as the model, silver awards are the highest<br>awards in the BSA.<br><br>History<br>The Silver Beaver was introduced in 1931 as a pin-on medal, but due to the heavy<br>weight of the medallion it was switched over to a neck ribbon in mid-1932. A<br>blue-white-blue ribbon bar was introduced in 1934 for informal uniform wear. In<br>1946, ribbon bars were replaced by the current knot insignia.<br><br>The Silver Beaver was initially awarded only to men. The Silver Fawn Award, an<br>equivalent for women, was awarded starting in 1971. It used the same knot<br>insignia, but on a blue background, as women were mostly involved in Cub<br>Scouting during this period. The Silver Fawn was discontinued and the Silver<br>Beaver began to be awarded to women in 1974. A total of 2,455 Silver Fawns were<br>awarded to outstanding women for support of Cub Scouting before the award was<br>discontinued in 1974.<br><br>As this is a council BSA award, it is conceivably possible for a person to<br>receive this award multiple times from different councils. It is believed that<br>12-16 people are double-recipients of the Silver Beaver in this manner. There is<br>no record of a triple-recipient.<br>b3

1935 Ft Worth Texas Folk Art Order of the Eastern Star LFATA OES Campaign<br>Miniature chair pin cushion. In many ways this is one of the coolest items I've<br>ever had. It appears to be a hand carved campaign item from depression era Ft<br>worth Texas. I believe Thelma Smith was campaigning for the Position of Electa<br>in the Ft Worth chapter 820 of the Order of the Eastern star. Not sure if she<br>won, if she did maybe this was a presentation item. Also interestingly 1936 was<br>Texas centennial so that's cool also. Stable cracks in wood as shown. 6.75" tall<br>x 3 1/8" wide.<br><br>The Order of the Eastern Star (or Eastern Star, or OES), is the world’s largest<br>fraternal organization that can be joined by both men and women. It is a member<br>of the Masonic family, but joining does not make a member a mason. It’s more of<br>an axillary group, that supports masonic lodges, masonic youth organizations, as<br>well as their own agenda. Like all Masonic organizations, they support<br>membership when in need, both financially and emotionally.
