Coming from a family of silversmiths, Jonhathan is the younger brother of the renowned jewelry artist, Leonard Nez, who was a mentor to Jonhathan for many years. An accomplished designer now in his own right, Jonhathan specializes in making bracelets and works with heavy-gauge sterling silver, adding deep-set stamping to create his distinctive pieces. Combining both the traditional Navajo stamp work in his pieces along with horizontal or vertical lines, Jonathan jewelry line is a is both classic and modern. He was the President of the Navajo Nation.

6.75" c1940‘s UITA22 Dean Kirk Trading Post Navajo silver cuff bracelet. No issues, solid sterling, weight and measurements in pictures. Navajo trader Dean Kirk opened his trading post at Manuelito, New Mexico (between Gallup and the Arizona border) around January 1941. The silver work made in Deans shop was typically Navajo tourist type designs and hallmarked UITA22 (under the auspices of the United Indian Traders Association) until about 1951. The UITA‘s stated goals were: 1) to promote improved business practices among Indian traders, arts and crafts dealers, Indians, and all related agencies; 2) to promote, encourage, and protect the manufacture and sale of genuine Indian handmade arts and crafts; and 3) to promote the general welfare of those engaged in the business of Indian trading, as well as the welfare of the Navajo Indians and all other Indians of North America.

Morgan, Harry Biography Harry Morgan is known for his classic revival style jewelry with its smooth, soft, antique finishes and classic design. He is a fifth-generation silversmith. Born and raised on the Navajo Reservation in Arizona, Harry Morgan began casting jewelry at age seven. His mother Louise inspired him to make jewelry in the old style. The Navajo Tribe offered him a four-year scholarship in engineering, but being a rodeo cowboy was his dream, at the time. He ultimately returned to his passion for silversmithing, and became a silversmith in 1965. He spent most of his life in the Gallup, NM area, and at one point opened a jewelry supply store in Crownpoint, NM. He also operated a smithing studio, and employed many smiths who would also emulate the classic revival style. One of those employed was well-known silversmith Kirk Smith. Many of Harry Morgans stamps were inherited from his parents and uncle, or made by him. Harry Morgan was married to Navajo silversmith Betty Joe, and is the nephew of accomplished silversmiths Charlie Bitsue and Ike Wilson. Brother Henry Morgan is known for his exceptional sandcast pieces. Linda Marble, his sister, was also known for her sandcast pieces. She passed away in 2004. Of his five children, three have taken up silversmithing. Harry Morgan won awards at every major Indian art show, and had an exhibit of his creations at the Heard Museum in 2007, a year before he passed way.

VICTORIA MASSE STOLL After a fifteen-year career as a painter and sculptor, Victorias interest in mineral specimens led her to take a few basic lessons at the Santa Fe School of Metalsmithing. Enchanted with the Southwest, she stayed on, teaching herself to refine her jewelry-making techniques. Victoria eventually opened a gallery on Canyon Road, exhibiting her painting and jewelry, as well as the work of other contemporary artists. Contemporary certainly defines the style of Victorias jewelryit is large dramatic. It makes a statement! Using mixed metals and a variety of semi-precious stones and rare fossils, the unique shapes of her pieces are embellished with cut outs and swirls for a modern, one-of-a-kind look. Victorias life style is also unique. While in Santa Fe, she lived in the mountains east of town in a rustic cabin with no plumbing and no central heatingwood was the only source of heat. Now she lives on Cape Cod in an old colonial house built in 1796. Odd choices for this very contemporary artist. Or perhaps just evidence of her creative and unique take on life--as well as art.

Paul has been working independently for several years and has retained Harry‘s stylistic element of applying an "old pawn" patina to his pieces, while developing his own style based on traditional Navajo designs. His work is signed “PJ Begay.

Collected about 45 or so years ago worn little if any. Hopi artist Beauford (Beuford) Dawahoya (1938-1998) is the brother of Bernard Dawahoya. He was considered by all to be a master silversmith. His beautiful clean designs along with the precise texturing he worked into the negative areas of his pieces, made his work easily recognizable and very collectable. He lived and worked on the Hopi reservation. His work is displayed in Museums across the country and in many publications.
