Extremely high quality with no<br>issues. 2.25" x 3/8" x 8.9 grams.<br><br>Theodor Fahrner (4 August 1859 – 22 July 1919) was a trained steel engraver and<br>jewelry designer from Pforzheim, Germany. He was known for his Art Nouveau and<br>Jugendstil pieces, produced at affordable prices. After his death, his firm<br>became one of the best known Art Deco designers.<br><br>Biography<br>Theodor Fahrner was born to Theodor Fahrner, Sr., and Pauline Fahrner (née<br>Schweikert). He had six sisters: Emma, Julie, Lina, Paulina Emilie, Luise Emilie<br>and Bertha. Little is known about his school days; he learned to be a steel<br>engraver and received his artistic training at the Pforzheim Kunstgewerbeschule.<br><br>Theodor Fahrner, Sr., owned a ring factory, and on his death in 1883, the<br>younger Theodor Fahrner took the reins. By 1895, he was the sole proprietor. In<br>the time of the upheaval before the turn of the century, Fahrner registered<br>numerous patents and utility models. The breakthrough finally succeeded with the<br>presentation of the jewelry designed by Max J. Gradl at the Paris World<br>Exposition in 1900, where he was awarded a silver medal.<br>Fahrner did most of his own design work from 1899 to 1906. Fahrner's later<br>designers included Maria Obrich, Patriz Huber, and Ludwig Knupper. The firm came<br>to specialize in affordable Art Deco jewelry and achieved an international<br>reputation.<br><br>Fahrner died in Pforzheim on July 22, 1919, leaving behind two daughters, Vera<br>and Yella. He was buried at Pforzheim's main cemetery. The jewelry maker Theodor<br>Fahrner was bought by the jeweler Gustav Braendle from Essling and passed on<br>under the name Bijouteriewarenfabrik Gustav Braendle. The brand name<br>"Fahrnerschmuck" was also used.<br><br>BRIEF HISTORY OF THEODOR FAHRNER JEWELRY<br>Theodor Fahrner was born in 1859 in Pforzheim, Germany. His father, Theodor,<br>Sr., manufactured and sold rings that memorialized historical events. Young<br>Theodor trained as a metal engraver at the Pforzheim Art Academy where he honed<br>his natural artistic talent and developed a lifelong love of art.<br><br>When his father died in 1883, Theodor took control of the company and expanded<br>its production beyond rings to necklaces, bracelets, brooches and earrings. He<br>also pioneered designer jewelry and the use of well-known and respected artists<br>of various disciplines to design jewelry made partly or entirely by machine.<br>Each artist had a distinctive style, and the little ring factory became was one<br>of the most prosperous jewelry houses in Europe and remained so until the 1950s.<br>Theodor Fahrner jewelry gained international attention when designer Max J.<br>Gradl received a silver medal at the 1900 Paris World Exhibition. Soon Theodor<br>was exporting large quantities of his jewelry around the world, most notably to<br>London and New York City.

Niels Erik From Sterling Denmark MCM Atomoic Brooch m pin
Niels Erik From Sterling Denmark MCM Atomoic Brooch. 1 5/8" wide 6.5 grams, no issues.Danish jeweller and silversmith Niels Erik From ( N.E. From) was born in 1908 and opened his first workshop in 1931 when he was still only twenty-three .Over the next forty years Niels Erik went on to become one one of the greats of Danish design, and created many works including floral-inspired designs often set with semi-precious gemstones. These pieces took inspiration from the Skønvirke style. This was a Scandinavian development that formed part of Denmark’s Art Nouveau and Arts and Crafts movement . This movement ususally took inspiration from nature with designs incorporating flowers and floral motifs as well as featuring natural creatures such as fish.N.E. FROM JEWELLRY STYLES - EARLY FLORAL DESIGNS AND LATER ABSTRACT MODERNIST PIECES N.E. From’s output generally displays one of two distinct styles. In the early years of production he produced wiry, thin, foliage and floral pieces .However, beginning in the 1950's the work produced by From (which were often the designs of other designers) had a very different look. No longer does the jewellery feature romantic, detailed designs from nature. The later pieces have modernist, clean lines with geometric and abstract shapes. Occasionally the modern designs show nature as inspiration with abstract blossom and leaf and blossom shapes. In generally though, they follow the trend of the 1950s of , spare, minimalist design.production .

Antique Norwegian Solje 830 silver mirrors wedding brooch pin
Antique Norwegian 830 silver mirrors wedding brooch. Late 19th to early 20th century. 3" tall, 15.6 grams with no issues. Really nice pin. Catches the light as you move around.Traditional wedding pin Norway. Great coat lapel or hat pin here. From the Web: The Power of Silver In rural Norway in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, women, men and children wore some kind of silver jewelry every day. Often that silver was in the form of a brooch or slje. Some styles of slje were specific to a region, others were used across the country. Simple pins were worn daily as the only fastener on a shirt or blouse. On special occasions, Norwegians wore more silver with their bunader, festive folk costumes, such as large brooches, buttons and shoe buckles, and finger rings.Silver showed the wealth and prosperity of a family, and Norwegians also believed it cured sickness in humans and animals, improved crops, and protected against storms and evil spirits. Huldrefolk were perhaps thep rimary reason for wearing silver jewelry. Also known as underworld creatures, huldrefolk tried to strengthen their gene pool by marrying humans and stealing children. Rural Norwegians never knew when or where they would encounter a huldrefolk, so they felt it was important to wear silver jewelry daily. The metal itself was strong, and dangling ornaments added protection by reflecting evil away from the wearer. Each time jewelry was worn in churc hor was handed down to the next generation, it became even more powerful.Rites of passage, especially baptism and marriage, were common times of huldrefolk attack, because humans were vulnerable as they changed status. The time between birth and baptism was particularly dangerous for infants because they were in constant danger of being swapped with huldrefolk babies. Parents often pinned a tiny slje on the baby's clothes until baptism provided more permanent protection. Girls might get their first full-sized slje to protec tthem at confirmation. At the precise moment a woman went from being single to married, she risked being taken to the mountain by huldrefolk. Brides wore the most and the finest jewelry, including several large broches, finger rings and bridal necklaces. Women throughout Norway wore special headdresses. Brides in central Norway wore headdresses decorated with beads and dangles. In western and northern Norway, brides wore metal crowns with hanging decorations shaped ike circles, crosses, leaves and birds. the few crowns that existed in a church parish were often available for rent from the owner, usually a minister or wealthy farmer. The Norwegian immigrants often took their bunader with them to their new homes but rarely used them. The did, however, continue to use their sljer.Norwegian women quickly adopted American clothing but proudly wore a slje at the neck to show their Norwegian heritage. Sljer are no longer used for protection; in fact, most wearers today are not even aware of that function which was so important in the past. Silver is still powerful as a symbol of ethnic ancestry. anderas
