sz8 Art Tafoya Yaqui Carved Amber Ring, Earrings/scarf slide/pendant sterling
sz8 Art Tafoya Yaqui Reverse Carved Amber Ring, Earrings, and scarf slide/pendant Sterling. Absolutely Amazing, reverse carved set in natural amber, great one of kind works of wearable art. Ring is size 8, everything is large and great. Tape measure and penny for scale.

Few silversmiths match the power and artistry of Art Tafoya. He specializes in silver. Hammered silver. The old way. Art Tafoya carries on that tradition of the early masters, for he makes his own stamps and dies. Art’s clear and crisp stamp work speaks of skill and talent born of that tradition. Thick silver, hammered like leather, only deeper, brisk, clear and lovely.

Art Tafoya, silversmith and artist, learned the basics of silversmithing at the age to twelve from a blacksmith at a riding stable near his home. Later he learned the art of making handmade stamps and dies from Carlos White Eagle, a former student of the legendary Navajo silversmith Fred Peshlakai. Art has made an exhaustive study of Fred Peshlakai’s stamps and is an expert at identifying even unsigned work by this master. All of Art’s stamps and dies are his own creations. He specializes in hand stamped old-style jewelry reminiscent of Peshlakai’s, but definitely all of his own.

His original jewelry is highly sought after by collectors worldwide. He was a silversmith in residence at The Turquoise Shop at Knotts Berry Farm in California for twenty-five years before relocating to New Mexico. His work may be found in the permanent collection of the Albuquerque Museum, the Grove Encyclopedia of American Art and his work is included in the book Navajo Silversmith Fred Peshlakai, His Life and Art.

Marked or unmarked as shown in pics, weight and other measurements in pics. Sorry but my
jewelry is stored in a secure location and cannot be accessed for more pictures,
videos, or measurements until sold. If you look at pictures/description your
question should be answered. Thank you so much for your time and consideration!

Felicita was born in 1927 and raised at Cochiti Pueblo. She learned to make
traditional pottery and storytellers from her parents. After her marriage during
the World War II years, she moved to her husband Ben’s home in Zuni. Ben taught
her some basics of jewelry-making. She sold her first ring to legendary Zuni
trader C.G. Wallace. Over the years she become and accomplished jeweler in her
own right, while developing a large following for her pottery and storytellers.
“There are always more orders for my claywork than there’s time to do them,” she
said.

The Eustaces show strong respect for the materials and time-honored processes of
their art. Felicita still makes her storytellers the traditional way. Her
jewelry features an old family design copyrighted in the early 1960s: a domed,
natural leave motif in sterling silver alongside a carved, bezeled and polished
turquoise stone. Felicita and Ben have passed their respect for quality on to
their 13 children, many of whom create their own pottery and jewelry.

Daughter Bernadette Eustace says, “My parents told us that if we were going to
do jewelry at all, we would have to do it their way, the right way. It wasn’t
the designs they were talking about, it was the technical aspects of our work:
setting stones, welds, engravings and so on. They were the ones who would be
selling these items for us, so they would make sure that a certain standard of
quality was being met.”

All precious metals are tested and guaranteed, any Native American jewelry
referred to as Silver or Sterling is guaranteed to be a minimum of 90% (coin)
silver and possibly higher content. Vintage Santo Domingo turquoise and shell Jaclas heishi necklace
Vintage Santo Domingo turquoise and shell Jaclas. Great with natural stones/shell from the third quarter of the 20th century, no damage or wear. 23 grams. Approx 5.5" long as shown in the pics. A traditional Pueblo jewelry adornment, a jacla is two loops of heishi that were originally earrings and sometimes fastened to the bottom of a stone necklace as a pendant-like attachment. Jacla is Navajo for “ear string”. The Navajo spelling is the most commonly used version of the word. Jocla is also common but jackla is a phonetic mis-spelling. Although jaclas are attributed to the Rio Grande Pueblo Indians, they were traded with other tribes so have become associated with the Navajo as well. They are seen in vintage photos being worn by members of all southwest tribes, both men and women. In the oldest style necklaces, the jacla is a pair of loop earrings tied onto the necklace.

14.25" Georg Jensen Art Deco Sterling and moonstone Choker necklace
14.25" Georg Jensen Art Deco Sterling and moonstone Choker necklace. 14.25" long
closed x 5/8" wide x 48.4 grams. No issues whatsoever, pictured on a 12" neck.

Georg Jensen, (born August 31, 1866, Raadvad, Denmark—died October 2, 1935,
Copenhagen), Danish silversmith and designer who achieved international
prominence for his commercial application of modern metal design. The simple
elegance of his works and their emphasis on fine craftsmanship, hallmarks of
Jensen’s products, are recognized around the world.

Jensen was apprenticed to a goldsmith at age 14. His artistic talents were
briefly focused on sculpture, but he returned to metalwork, primarily jewelry
and silver pieces, produced in the workshop he opened in Copenhagen in 1904.
Jensen exhibited his works at several major foreign exhibitions (winning a gold
medal at the Brussels Exhibition of 1910) and quickly built a reputation as an
outstanding and highly original silversmith. He moved to a larger workshop in
1912 and acquired his first factory building in 1919.

Jensen’s silverware achieved immediate popularity and commercial success. He
was, in fact, the first silver maker to realize a profit from the manufacture of
modern silver. Until Jensen’s time virtually all successful silverware producers
had relied on a standard repertory of popular traditional designs. Jensen,
however, found that the market for his sleek, simple pieces was larger than
anyone had predicted. His firm grew rapidly, expanding throughout Europe and
opening branches in London and New York City. On both continents Jensen’s work
set trends for contemporary tableware. He was among the first designers to
fashion steel—formerly considered fit only for low-quality, inexpensive
flatware—into handsome, serviceable cutlery.

Through trial and error and a great deal of help
from his Uncle, Paul became an accomplished young jewelry maker.

By the time he was twenty-two he was ready to launch himself full time into
silversmithing. Paul Livingstonis an acclaimed Navajo silversmith who favors
substance in his metal work and high-quality, natural stones in all his
settings.

Today, nearly forty years later, Paul is a nationally known and collected
jewelry artist. He is particularly known for a style of jewelry most
silversmiths shy away from a technique known as ‘cluster and row work’ where
multiple tiny stones are used together to form a delicate, colorful designs in
jewelry. Paul is happy to work with the little stones, even the tiny round
“snake eye” ones and is renowned for how exquisitely aligned the stone clusters
and rows of stones are on his pieces.

Even at his age Paul continues to experiment with new jewelry techniques and
design styles. He especially enjoys working unusual textures created on metals
and will often incorporate a new surface
finish or other design application to see if these changes might enhance the
jewelry’s appearance and appeal. Though his forte has always been more
traditional even vintage looking Navajo style jewelry, his
contemporary designs are also in high demand. Paul Livingston creates beautiful
jewelry using stones that aren’t often found in Native American jewelry. The
intricate ‘saw work designs’ of his pieces are especially difficult to achieve
but so very visually appealing in Paul’s finished work.

I believe the necklace was made by Richard Tsosie also. 37.8 grams total
weight. Both necklace and pendant tested sterling, both amazing quality.

Richard is perhaps best known for his distinctive textured silver designs. His trademark techniqie of granulation was discovered by accident when he noticed silver filings were fusing onto a ring he was soldering. He calls the process which produces this granulated surface texture “reticulation,” and he has been perfecting the technique throughout his career.

Born in 1956, Richard has been a jeweler since the mid 1970s. He learned jewelry making from his brother Boyd and from Kenneth Begay at Navajo Community College in Arizona. He quickly progressed from basic tasks of cutting and polishing stones to the more complex process of inlay.

Richard’s contemporary silver and hold work features the use of fabrication, overlay, and granulation. He is also known for colorful inlay work with a variety of natural stones and for his fine degree of control and attention to detail. His designs are motivated by images of the natural world, particularly the Wide Ruins area of the reservation where he spent a large part of his youth. Richard says of his work, “I am inspired by the colors of the mountains at sunset, the patterns of shadow and light that emerge at dawn, and the pinpoints of starlight against the black night sky.”

His pieces typically contain the symbol for lighting and an arrow pattern. The lightning stands for natural causes, while the arrowhead symbolizes man-made elements. Richard says the design represents the ups and downs of life. “Some things we can’t do anything about and you should try to enjoy life to the fullest.”
