sz7.5 Leo Yazzie Black Jade and coral channel inlay sterling ring. Overall good condition with minor wear.LEO YAZZIE Leo Yazzie has been designing and creating fine jewelry for more than 30 years. Born and raised at Black Mesa on the Navajo Reservation in northeastern Arizona, the influence of the land and his culture is a part of each piece of his contemporary and sophisticated jewelry.Leo uses both gold and silver to create jewelry with a unique combination of traditional and contemporary designs. “The inspiration for many of my designs came from watching my grandmother, mother and other women in the family weaving rugs. They told me their designs came from Spider. Now, I make designs inspired by the patterns they wove.”Leo’s patterns vary, from a delicate cutout border with intricate detail to bold geometrics. It might be a gold panel with a geometric motif overlaid on a silver pendant; a cut-out stepped pattern encircling a stone; or a lightning shaped band on a ring. Whatever the pattern, the effect is sophisticated and elegant. The classic use of turquoise and coral is a favorite combination of Leo’s. The coral may range from pale pink to a very deep red. Leo uses turquoise of the highest quality, sometimes rare pieces from famous mines that have been closed for years. “I love working with quality stones,” says Leo. To guarantee he’d always have the best materials to work with, Leo has collected high quality stones from gem shows and traders over the years. In addition to turquoise and coral, Leo uses other semi-precious stones from around the world like sugilite, lapis, gaspeite, white opals and more. Sugilite has gained in popularity since its introduction in the 1980s. Found in the Kalahari Desert of South Africa, this stone with its deep rich purple to soft lavender color works beautifully with turquoise, or on its own. Leo enjoys pairing it with the fire in white opals.Leo’s settings are all handmade, often built up layer-by-layer. Designs are sawed out and appliquéd. Rich multi-colored side inlay will often be added to highlight a larger stone or add accent colors to the design. He uses channel inlay on some pieces, with the stones precisely cut flush with each other, so that they almost appear to be one stone. Some pieces will have a sculptural inlay, where each stone is cut and shaped, then fitted together.Leo’s avant-garde work is fitting for today’s contemporary fashions. His attention to detail and craftsmanship is evident in each piece and reflects his willingness to take the time to let a design emerge.“I enjoy what I do and I like to take my time with each piece,” says Leo. He usually works on several pieces at a time, working with one and then setting it aside to work on another, or taking one of his long walks. “I usually work for three hours each morning and then leave the pieces alone,” says Leo. His long walks are important; they reconnect him with the land and life surrounding him.The care and time that Leo takes fabricating each of his pieces has resulted in his winning enough awards and ribbons to fill two large boxes. Today, Leo has stopped entering contests. “I wanted to make room for the younger artists,” says Leo. He may have stopped competing, but he has not stopped creating. This quiet man and gifted artist continues to innovate and dazzle us with his eye for color and attention to detail. sz7.5 Steve Wikviya LaRance Hopi Tufa cast ring. No issues.Master Hopi silversmith Steve Wikviya LaRance was born 1958 in Phoenix, Arizona but spent part of his childhood with his grandparents in the Hopi village of Moencopi. At Hopi he learned the traditional Hopi arts and those ceremonial designs are a part of his distinctive tufa cast jewelry today. Steve says "When we create art, we share a piece of ourselves with the world."Steve’s distinctive, tufa-cast jewelry uses traditional Native symbols, like petroglyphs, dragonflies, kachina figures and water signs, in creative contemporary ways. His designs are inspired by historical cast jewelry and other old techniques. After becoming a painter, then a sculptor, he now does jewelry that is beautifully designed and impeccably executed. He gathers the semi-hard volcanic tufa from the Hopi Reservation. "I was able to find the site where Charles Loloma used to get his tufa," he says, happily. It is finer-grained than that found elsewhere. Constantly seeking the best is a signature concept of Steve LaRance and his jewelry. sz7.75 Felicita Eustace (1927-2016) Cochiti pueblo sterling carved turquoise and coral ring 8 grams. Felicita Eustace Felicita was born in 1927 and raised at Cochiti Pueblo. She learned to make traditional pottery and storytellers from her parents. After her marriage during the World War II years, she moved to her husband Ben’s home in Zuni. Ben taught her some basics of jewelry-making. She sold her first ring to legendary Zuni trader C.G. Wallace. Over the years she become and accomplished jeweler in her own right, while developing a large following for her pottery and storytellers. “There are always more orders for my claywork than there’s time to do them,” she said. The Eustaces show strong respect for the materials and time-honored processes of their art. Felicita still makes her storytellers the traditional way. Her jewelry features an old family design copyrighted in the early 1960s: a domed, natural leave motif in sterling silver alongside a carved, bezeled and polished turquoise stone. Felicita and Ben have passed their respect for quality on to their 13 children, many of whom create their own pottery and jewelry.Daughter Bernadette Eustace says, “My parents told us that if we were going to do jewelry at all, we would have to do it their way, the right way. It wasn’t the designs they were talking about, it was the technical aspects of our work: setting stones, welds, engravings and so on. They were the ones who would be selling these items for us, so they would make sure that a certain standard of quality was being met.”All precious metals are tested and guaranteed,

sz8 Art Tafoya Yaqui Reverse Carved Amber Ring, Earrings, and scarf slide/pendant Sterling. Absolutely Amazing, reverse carved set in natural amber, great one of kind works of wearable art. Ring is size 8, everything is large and great. Tape measure and penny for scale.

Few silversmiths match the power and artistry of Art Tafoya. He specializes in silver. Hammered silver. The old way. Art Tafoya carries on that tradition of the early masters, for he makes his own stamps and dies. Art’s clear and crisp stamp work speaks of skill and talent born of that tradition. Thick silver, hammered like leather, only deeper, brisk, clear and lovely.

Art Tafoya, silversmith and artist, learned the basics of silversmithing at the age to twelve from a blacksmith at a riding stable near his home. sz8 Benny Armijo Navajo Modernist silver Sugilite, Coral, turquoise ring. Has the artists CM hallmark, somehow the photographer missed it, I‘ll try to follow up with a pic of the mark. No issues, weight and measurements in pics Benny Armijo (1937-2022). Benny was a renowned master Navajo silversmith who specialized in this complex inlay and "corn row" type cobblestone inlay using high quality stones. His jewelry was featured on the Oprah Winfrey show and was collected by many high-profile artists from James Taylor, Charlie Daniels, to Hank Williams Jr. His pieces can be seen on many album covers of top music groups and are highly collectable today. His incredible sense of humor was as well-known as his jewelry. He was simply the most generous man that one could ever imagine, always helping complete strangers he encountered along the way. He was active from the early 70's until the late 20th century.. His older mark from the 1970's looks like a tadpole and has been misattributed to "Edward Zuni", but I'm 100% sure this is Benny Armijo's work and hallmark, it's been confirmed by his living relatives. Benny was born in Santa Fe, New Mexico Benito M Armijo Jr The older stamp he first used was to represent the letter C and letter M which stood for Chief Marcos. Many years later maybe around 1989 he stamped his jewelry with Benny Armijo. He lived in California for many years and returned to New Mexico and passed away January 2022. He was known for his stone inlay on what he called a Hopi wedding band in which all the stones were inlaid inside the ring or bracelet. Giving the thought that the beauty between the couple is in the eye of the beholder and the couple would choose the different color of stones and their meanings to be inlaid on their wedding bands. Women's Size 8 Ring.

Begay Sr. was born and raised in Kayenta - Chilchinbeto,
AZ. In 1975-76, Ernest took a silversmithing class at Monument Valley High
School. “We used copper in the class, but that’s where I got my start. I took
the class because it looked like something fun and easy to do. I used to watch
my brother-in-law, and his father make jewelry, they used to give me scrap
silver to work with,” recalls Ernest.

Ernest’s career in jewelry making didn’t really take off until he entered some
rather distinguished pieces into the Navajo Nation Fair and the Gallup
Intertribal Indian Ceremonial. Here, he received many awards and ribbons, which
helped him begin his career as jewelry artist.

Over the years, Ernest has slowly built a reputation for coral and turquoise
cluster work on heavy gauge silver with deep custom-designed stamp work. Ernest
gets much inspiration from traditional and old jewelry styles. “Concho belts,
squash blossoms, bracelets, necklaces, rings, earrings, and belt buckles, I do
them all in my own signature old style series. This old style jewelry always
caught my eye. I used to go to the Trading Posts just to look at some of the old
pawn on display. The ones that caught my attention were always the pieces that
used the thick silver, and the stamp work on them,” says Ernest. sz8 Harry Morgan Navajo sterling silver long ring w/ nice turquoiser. Great looking ring. Tested and guaranteed solid sterling silver with no issues unless some are already stated previously in the description. Some expected wear. Size 8 ring Harry Morgan is known for his classic revival style jewelry with its smooth, soft, antique finishes and classic design. He is a fifth-generation silversmith. Born and raised on the Navajo Reservation in Arizona, Harry Morgan began casting jewelry at age seven. His mother Louise inspired him to make jewelry in the old style. The Navajo Tribe offered him a four-year scholarship in engineering, but being a rodeo cowboy was his dream, at the time. He ultimately returned to his passion for silversmithing, and became a silversmith in 1965. He spent most of his life in the Gallup, NM area, and at one point opened a jewelry supply store in Crownpoint, NM. He also operated a smithing studio, and employed many smiths who would also emulate the classic revival style. One of those employed was well-known silversmith Kirk Smith. Many of Harry Morgans stamps were inherited from his parents and uncle, or made by him. Harry Morgan was married to Navajo silversmith Betty Joe, and is the nephew of accomplished silversmiths Charlie Bitsue and Ike Wilson. Brother Henry Morgan is known for his exceptional sandcast pieces. Linda Marble, his sister, was also known for her sandcast pieces. She passed away in 2004. Of his five children, three have taken up silversmithing. Harry Morgan won awards at every major Indian art show, and had an exhibit of his creations at the Heard Museum in 2007, a year before he passed way.
