26" Helen Beckerhoff modernist sterling necklace with 1900 US silver dollar pendant. Nice solid sterling period mid century US made necklace just signed Beckerhoff, tested sterling. Born on the Acoma Reservation, Wolf Robe was the son of Chief Day Break (Edward Proctor Hunt), Chief of the Delight Makers -- a man instrumental in the improvement of relations between the Acomas and whites. His mother, Morning Star, whose own father was Governor of Acoma seven times, was a potter and weaver. Wolf Robe learned silver-smithing from his older brother on the reservation. Wolf Robe achieved recovnition and fame for his jewelry and art work, winning the prestigious Philbrook Art Center's Grand Award in 1967. In addition, he was a businessman, with his own arts and crafts store in Tulsa, a lecturer, international traveller, author, and translator for the Bureau of American Ethnology. He assited L. A. White in his extensive studies of the Acoma Indians and made recordings for the National Anthropological Archives. Wolf Robe was particularly interested in the preservation of tribal customs, language and culture, and devoted his own time to this and the encouragement of others in similar efforts. Born on the Acoma Reservation, Wolf Robe was the son of Chief Day Break (Edward Proctor Hunt), Chief of the Delight Makers -- a man instrumental in the improvement of relations between the Acomas and whites. His mother, Morning Star, whose own father was Governor of Acoma seven times, was a potter and weaver. Wolf Robe learned silver-smithing from his older brother on the reservation. Wolf Robe achieved recovnition and fame for his jewelry and art work, winning the prestigious Philbrook Art Center's Grand Award in 1967. In addition, he was a businessman, with his own arts and crafts store in Tulsa, a lecturer, international traveller, author, and translator for the Bureau of American Ethnology. He assited L. A. White in his extensive studies of the Acoma Indians and made recordings for the National Anthropological Archives. Wolf Robe was particularly interested in the preservation of tribal customs, language and culture, and devoted his own time to this and the encouragement of others in similar efforts. Historic Battle Mtn. Blue Gem Turquoise The Blue Gem Turquoise Mine was located in the Copper Basin area southwest of Battle Mountain, Nevada, USA. Production of this turquoise mine started about 1934 and continued until the 1970's. Blue Gem Turquoise is still some of the finest turquoise ever found, and unlike most turquoise mines, (in which the majority mined is chalky and only usable if stabilized) most of the turquoise found there was of gem-quality. There is a distinctive aqua color that some people associate with Blue Gem turquoise, although it produced a great variety of colors, especially when intense blue was combined with deep green in one stone.The mine no longer exists due to the extensive copper (and gold) mining operations of the Copper Canyon Mining Company (all of the copper was extracted by 1968). Doc Wilson, one of the previous owners of the Lone Mountain Turquoise Mine, owned the Blue Gem Turquoise Mine from 1938 - 1981 when he leased it to Lee Hand. Lee Hand owned and operated the mine until 1970 when he sold his interest to the Elquist family of Battle Mountain, Nevada.Lee Hand knew the Patania Family in Arizona and C.G.Wallace in Zuni and regularly supplied those traders with turquoise for Navajo and Zuni carvings and jewelry. While the Blue Gem Turquoise mine was very prolific at one time, today it is considered extremely rare, valuable and collectible turquoise. Sugilite, a few types of turquoise, a few petrified things, Lapis. No damage or issues. Benny Armijo (1937-2022).   Benny was a renowned master Navajo silversmith who specialized in this complex inlay and "corn row" type cobblestone inlay using high quality stones.  His jewelry was featured on the Oprah Winfrey show and was collected by many high-profile artists from James Taylor, Charlie Daniels, to Hank Williams Jr. His pieces can be seen on many album covers of top music groups and are highly collectable today. His incredible sense of humor was as well-known as his jewelry. He was simply the most generous man that one could ever imagine, always helping complete strangers he encountered along the way. He was active from the early 70's until the late 20th century..   His older mark from the 1970's looks like a tadpole and has been misattributed to "Edward Zuni", but I'm 100% sure this is Benny Armijo's work and hallmark, it's been confirmed by his living relatives.   Benny was born in Santa Fe, New Mexico Benito M Armijo Jr  The older stamp he first used was to represent the letter C and letter M which stood for Chief Marcos. Many years later maybe around 1989 he stamped his jewelry with Benny Armijo. He lived in California for many years and returned to New Mexico and passed away January 2022. He was known for his stone inlay on what he called a Hopi wedding band in which all the stones were inlaid inside the ring or bracelet. Giving the thought that the beauty between the couple is in the eye of the beholder and the couple would choose the different color of stones and their meanings to be inlaid on their wedding bands.

He is best known for his extraordinary lapidary skills, whose signature style is creating some of the best mosaic inlay work today.Cecil worked for the Brown family, Brown’s Trading Company in Safford, Arizona in the mid-80's and had access to top grade Morenci turquoise, which he used to create many beautiful jewelry pieces. There he honed his craft before venturing out on his own and establishing his own studio. Most of Cecil’s pieces have a variety of colorful, inlaid materials including spiny oyster, onyx, lapis, opal and the rare Dragon Skin or Brown Spider Web turquoise. 1709 French Land Grant Texas? The acrylic case measures 17" tall x 20" wide. I haven't had a chance to figure out what territory is being discussed here as I don't speak French. I did acquire it with some early Texas documents/land grants with presidential signatures but none quite this old. sz8.5 Benny Armijo (1937-2022) Navajo silver modernist corn row ring. No significant issues, measurements in pics. The marks on the rim are part of the casting, it was made to look "weathered". Benny Armijo (1937-2022).   Benny was a renowned master Navajo silversmith who specialized in this complex inlay and "corn row" type cobblestone inlay using high quality stones.  His jewelry was featured on the Oprah Winfrey show and was collected by many high-profile artists from James Taylor, Charlie Daniels, to Hank Williams Jr. His pieces can be seen on many album covers of top music groups and are highly collectable today. His incredible sense of humor was as well-known as his jewelry. He was simply the most generous man that one could ever imagine, always helping complete strangers he encountered along the way. He was active from the early 70's until the late 20th century..   His older mark from the 1970's looks like a tadpole and has been misattributed to "Edward Zuni", but I'm 100% sure this is Benny Armijo's work and hallmark, it's been confirmed by his living relatives.   Benny was born in Santa Fe, New Mexico Benito M Armijo Jr  The older stamp he first used was to represent the letter C and letter M which stood for Chief Marcos. Many years later maybe around 1989 he stamped his jewelry with Benny Armijo. He lived in California for many years and returned to New Mexico and passed away January 2022. He was known for his stone inlay on what he called a Hopi wedding band in which all the stones were inlaid inside the ring or bracelet. Giving the thought that the beauty between the couple is in the eye of the beholder and the couple would choose the different color of stones and their meanings to be inlaid on their wedding bands.
