No issues, weight and measurements in pics. Solid sterling. Diné silversmith Ike Wilson worked for many years for the Kelsey Trading Company at Zuni. He did silverwork for many of the Zuni lapidary artists including Ida Vacit Poblano. He often collaborated with his wife, Katherine Wilson. Navajo Nation artist Ike Wilson (1900-1942) would sign his creations with his bow and arrow hallmark. There has been some confusion in the past about the hallmark of Ike Wilson (1901-1942). It seems that sometimes his work was attributed to Austin Wilson. Both men were born in the same year and in a similar area of the reservation and both men worked at times for trader C. G. Wallace and the Kelsey Trading Company. Ike Wilsons work is signed with a bow and arrow. After his death in 1942, his wife Katherine Wilson (1907-1985) continued to use his hallmark. The bow and arrow hallmark was initially attributed to Ikes contemporary, Austin Wilson, but the corrected attribution was published in Messier, 2014.

I believe the previous owner paid $9500 for this bracelet about 25-30 years ago. High grade Godber is expensive. History of Godber-Burnham Turquoise The Godber mine, discovered in 1932, is located east of Austin, Nevada. First claimed under the name “Last Chance, it was later sold to Frank Burnham and then in 1934 to Walter Godber. It is said that during his short time owning the mine, he pulled out over "100,000" worth of turquoise, before selling it to Godber. Godber turquoise has been featured in the movie "The 10 Commandments" in the 50s, and was sold in Tiffany stores. The Godber mine was mined underground for the majority of its early years. Due to the miners chasing veins underground, you never know when you will run into an underground working where the turquoise has already been mined. The turquoise ranges from medium to dark blue, usually with a beautiful spider webbing. It has also been know for a very dark or black mottling forming, blotches and veins running through the stone. This mottling forms blotches and veins running through the stone that creates a impressive spiderweb appearance. Oscar Branson in his book, “Turquoise has called Godber ‘so hard and ‘some of the finest turquoise in Nevada‘. Godber has always been considered a very high quality turquoise and very collectible.

Vidal Aragon Santo Domingo sterling turquoise and coral overlay pendant, weight and measurements in pics. Nice older piece circa mid 20th century. From Santo Domingo Pueblo, Vidal Aragon (1923-2015) translated pueblo life into intricate storyteller jewelry. He became internationally renown for his inventive silver and gold overlay designs. His representations of the elements of nature, animals and pueblo life are symbolic of the Indian way. One symbol refers to “everlasting happiness. Other common motifs are animals and the tracks they make and the blessing and nourishment of corn. An expert craftsman, Aragon drew each story strip with his saw blade and soldered it to a textured oxidized underlayer to illuminate the images. He often incorporated a trademark gold disk to represent the sun or moon. Vidal Aragon learned the overlay technique in the 1930s when he was a student at the Santa Fe Indian School. Before inventing the storyteller jewelry, he experimented with tufa casting and other metalworking techniques. He briefly lived in Scottsdale where he honed his skills as a shop smith. He has fond memories of the time he spent learning ballet as a young man in Phoenix. By the early 1940s, Vidal was already being recognized alongside such prominent smiths as Ambrose Roanhorse and Tom Burnsides for his innovative yet classical designs. Aragon found his true calling though when he began to translate his rich sense of the pueblo way of life into wearable stories, often full of his unique humor.

c1820 Chinese Export porcelain US American Market Patriotic Eagle serving pieces. Both pieces with some damage. Some slight expected wear to gold/enamel. Smaller bowl 8 5/8" x 6 5/8" with old restorations of several small chips around the rim/associated overpainting just on rim. Mitchell Sockyma Hopi overlay screw back earrings sterling. Solid sterling. Weight and measurements in pics. Mitchell Sockyma was born in Hopiland in 1942 and spent his childhood in the third Mesa village of Hotevilla. In 1973, he landed a job at the Hopi Crafts Shop, a workshop and studio new his home where his two older brothers were also silversmiths. Over the years, Mitchell has expanded his range of skills, including soldering 14k gold onto silver, which embellishes the traditional Hopi symbols he uses. As a member of the Corn Clan, his use of corn stalks is important, as is the Kokopelli, turtles, bear paws, and claws and wave designs. Unlike many other Hopi artists, he combines several of these design elements into one piece. He also incorporates brightly colored gemstones, natural turquoise, lapis and coral into the design. Considered one of the finest contemporary Hopi jewelers today, Mitchell has won numerous awards for his stunning pieces from the Northern Arizona Museum and Gallup, New Mexicos Annual Intertribal Ceremonial. MAT-MATILDE POULAT & RICARDO SALAS JEWELRY Matl is the mark that appears on some of the most beautiful and unique jewelry in Mexico. Matilde Eugenia Poulat introduced MATL in 1934 and, since her death in 1960, her designs and techniques have been carried on by her nephew, Ricardo Salas. For sr. Salas, who can recite poetry in the language of the Aztecs, the mark matl, has greater meaning in its reference to the Nahuatl or Aztec word for water, atl. As a young woman, Matilde Poulat studied painting at the prestigious San Carlos academy of fine arts in Mexico city, she went on to teach painting classes at an art school until her interest turned exclusively to silver. Matilde Poulat´s designs for jewelry and figures were part of the new cultural vision among Mexicos intellectuals after the revolution in 1920s, artists were searching for Mexican aesthetic, rejection European subjects in favor of the art of the pre-conquest Indians and of the Mexican pueblos. Sra. Poulat found inspiration in the mextec gold jewelry discovered in 1932 at Monte Alban. Her choice of motifs the dove, flowers, and tiny bells are reminiscent of the whimsical subjects of contemporary Mexican folk art. Matilde Poulat received international recognition for her jewelry when she was asked in 1941 to participate in an exhibit of Latin American silver at the pan American union in Washington, D.C. as a result of increasing demand for matl silver during world war ii , the number of silversmiths in the taller increased to thirty-three. In 1950, Srta. Poulat and her nephew opened a showroom on the first floor of her home, where she also had the workshop. Ricardo Salas recalls that they made three thousand types of silver jewelry and one hundred different pieces. Ricardo Salas worked closely with his aunt from the time he was eleven years of age. He says she recognized his artistic talent when she saw him do a play with puppets he had made himself. Sr. Salas was sent to the San Carlos academy, where he received the premio Diego Rivera. As a youth, he learned the techniques of the silversmith and perfected the carving of "Off White", coral, turquoise, and other stones used in the jewelry and figurines. From sr. Salas perspective, he and his aunt collaborated so closely as designers, that there really cannot be a comparison of their work. In 1955, William Spratling wrote of Matilde Poulat: “she has continued to produce some of the most charming native jewelry in Mexico, intensely her own. Her jewelry has the same charm and delightful surface and colorful quality of the old lacquer work of Uruapan. Spratling`s admiration for matl silver reflects his recognition of their shared appreciation for Mexican native art. This mutual inspiration led each of the two artists in different directions within the same medium. The exuberance of matl silver resembles the interiors of the churches in Puebla, like the chapel of Santa Maria Tonantzintla, where Indians covered the interior of the dome with polychromed and gilded angels. In matl silver, the introduction of color is accomplished with bits of coral, turquoise, and amethyst quartz. The surfaces are decorated with applied wire and elaborated with embossing and repousse of astounding complexity (pl.XXIII-1, XXIII-10). Matilde Poulat and Ricardo Salas have been successful in incorporating the artistic language of the Mixtecs into jewelry and silver figures with imagination, drama, and with a style that is completely personal. From) was born in 1908 and opened his first workshop in 1931 when he was still only twenty-three . Over the next forty years Niels Erik went on to become one one of the greats of Danish design, and created many works including floral-inspired designs often set with semi-precious gemstones. These pieces took inspiration from the Skønvirke style. This was a Scandinavian development that formed part of Denmarks Art Nouveau and Arts and Crafts movement .
