ONDELACY, WARREN & DORIS (Zuni, active.1940-1960‘s). Specialized in large Zuni cluster work. Warren was considered a master silversmith along with his wife Doris. Recognizable techniques of silver repousse work often accompanied their designs along with the consistent use of high quality materials. Trader C. G. Wallace, retained many of the Ondelacy‘s pieces for his private collection. The Blue Gem Mine site is near Battle Mountain in Lander County, Nevada. Ernest Thomas Bilagody Navajo silversmith Ernest Thomas Bilagody (ETB) was born in Tuba City, Arizona to the Red House Big Water Clan and has been immersed in his trade for the better part of his life. His grandparents are from the Around the House Clan and the Bitter Water Clan. This craftsman was guided by his mother early on and continued those traditions into his adult years. He worked as a silversmith for over 35 years, since the mid 1970s, until his passing in 2014. His mother started him out with buffing the earrings she made. From there she gave him other duties, such as soldering things for her. With this beginning, Ernest started making his own jewelry, and he did not ever look back. He continued those traditions into his adult years. Ernest worked out of his own home, and worked for various traders. sz8 Benny Armijo Navajo Modernist silver Sugilite, Coral, turquoise ring. Has the artists CM hallmark, somehow the photographer missed it, I‘ll try to follow up with a pic of the mark. No issues, weight and measurements in pics Benny Armijo (1937-2022).   Benny was a renowned master Navajo silversmith who specialized in this complex inlay and "corn row" type cobblestone inlay using high quality stones.  His jewelry was featured on the Oprah Winfrey show and was collected by many high-profile artists from James Taylor, Charlie Daniels, to Hank Williams Jr. His pieces can be seen on many album covers of top music groups and are highly collectable today. His incredible sense of humor was as well-known as his jewelry. He was simply the most generous man that one could ever imagine, always helping complete strangers he encountered along the way. He was active from the early 70's until the late 20th century..   His older mark from the 1970's looks like a tadpole and has been misattributed to "Edward Zuni", but I'm 100% sure this is Benny Armijo's work and hallmark, it's been confirmed by his living relatives.   Benny was born in Santa Fe, New Mexico Benito M Armijo Jr  The older stamp he first used was to represent the letter C and letter M which stood for Chief Marcos. Many years later maybe around 1989 he stamped his jewelry with Benny Armijo. He lived in California for many years and returned to New Mexico and passed away January 2022. He was known for his stone inlay on what he called a Hopi wedding band in which all the stones were inlaid inside the ring or bracelet. Giving the thought that the beauty between the couple is in the eye of the beholder and the couple would choose the different color of stones and their meanings to be inlaid on their wedding bands.  Women's Size 8 Ring.

Alvin learned the silversmithing trade at an early age from his father, Frank Yellowhorse, and later mastered the techniques of cutting the small turquoise & other colorful stones into precise little pieces in which he assembles into intricate designs inspired by his Anasazi ancestors. This technique is called “Channel Inlay. A style of inlay where all the stones are cut & assembled together first & then ground flush before being highly polished. Alvin is credited for originating another style of inlay called “Corn Row Wave Inlay in which the stones are individually cut & rounded over before setting them into a silver or gold bracelet, pendant, ring, or link bracelet. Corn Row Wave Inlay is much more time consuming as he has to completely finish each stone one at a time before placing them into the gold or silver setting. Alvin creates each piece one at a time . There are no mass production techniques or assembly lines. His designs, although very contemporary, are enriched by the Zuni, Hopi, & Anasazi influences along with his own Navajo heritage. Alvin also receives inspiration from the ancient petroglyphs found along the canyon walls near his workshop. Alvin is forever amazing the jewelry & art galleries with new designs & techniques. Aside from being featured in several high-end galleries, Alvin was recognized by the Smithsonian Magazine in their August 1999 issue, along with Art Book Arizona Magazine doing a profile on his life. Kenneth Begay Navajo White Hogan Modernist Sterling salt spoons/ironwood bowl. Selling the three Kenneth Begay salt spoons and Ironwood salt bowl shown. No issues. Weight and measurements in pics. Kenneth Begay (1913-1977) was called the “Father of Contemporary Navajo jewelry for his clean, bold, modern designs. Begay began as a blacksmith, took his first course in silversmithing from Fred Peshlakai at the Fort Wingate Vocational School for the Native Americans in Fort Wingate, New Mexico in 1938. Fred Peshlakai had been taught by his father, Slender Maker of Silver, who was trained by Atsidi Chon, one of the earliest Navajo silversmiths. Begay in turn taught traditional techniques of silversmithing to his own students from 1968-1973 at Navajo Community College in Many Farms, Arizona. In 1946, Begay started working with John Bonnell at the White Hogan shop in Flagstaff, Arizona, beginning an 18 year relationship. In collaboration with Bonnell, Begay moved Indian jewelry beyond personal adornment and into the arena of pure metalsmithing making, amongst other things, flatware sets, plates, boxes, and vessels of various kinds. Although highly unusual at this time among silversmiths, 1951-1952, he also began signing his jewelry using KB. When working for the White Hogan he additionally stamped his pieces with a small hogan. A master metalsmith, Kenneth Begay was very creative and strongly influenced by his traditional background. In his jewelry this translated to a balance between silver, stone and bold but unpretentious designs. He created clean, elegant designs based on streamlined shapes that were repeated to form balanced and harmonious patterns, a style that has been compared to Navajo weaving. The son of a Zuni jeweler, Jacob Haloo, and a Navajo mother, Lolap Haloo, Jake Livingston was born in Pinehaven, NM in 1946. After returning from Vietnam in the early 1970s, where he received three *Purple Heart medals, Livingston first worked as a Navajo tribal policeman. He studied the Zuni style of mosaic inlay with master craftsman Dennis Edaakie and soon began working full time as a jeweler. He has been creating prize winning works of wearable art ever since. Frequently working with his wife Irene, he is the recipient of First Place and Best of Division awards at the Santa Fe Indian Market multiple times and his work is found in Lois Jackas book Navajo Jewelry: A Legacy of Silver and Stone. The exquisite work on this classic reversible pendant features a coral cardinal on one side and a gorgeous red headed bird on the other. Livingston used the stones as a painter would use paint to fashion his images. c1960‘s Pal Kepenyes Bronze turquoise statement necklace. Totally over the top necklace with no issues. Nice quality turquoise. It‘s all hinged and articulating. Some measurements and weight in pics. Approximately 20" circumference necklace. Between 1945 and 1949 Pal spent two years at the Budapest School of Applied Arts as a decorative sculptor, and then for another two years at the College of Fine<br>Arts at Bénin Ferenczi . He was then fired as a class stranger. In 1950, he was sentenced to ten years in prison for concealing weapons on fabricated charges. He began to serve his sentence in Szeged , after two and a half years of forced labor he was sent to Tatabánya , and then to the mine in Várpalota , from where he was taken to Márianosztra . 1933 Boy Scout Silver Beaver Award With Certificate Frank Griffin Saginaw<br>Michigan. Exremely rare identified example with full sized 11" x 13 5/8"<br>certificate. The medal itself is solid sterling marked so weighing about 48<br>grams. This was awarded 2 years after the award was created so it is extremely<br>rare to find one this early especially named with the certificate.<br><br>I have a fairly large lot of Frank Griffin‘s Scouting items going back to the<br>20‘s. This listing is for this medal and certificate which I know to be<br>extremely important, I‘m still trying to decide how to do the rest of the lot as<br>I know it might be irresponsible to split it up. It ranges from the 20‘s to the<br>60‘s with photographs from the first quarter of the 20th century, scoutmaster<br>paperwork from the 20‘s and 30‘s, merit badges with paperwork, etc.<br><br>ABOUT THE AWARD<br><br>The Silver Beaver Award is the council-level distinguished service award of the<br>Boy Scouts of America. Upon nomination by their local Scout council and with the<br>approval of the National Court of Honor, recipients of this award are registered<br>adult leaders who have made an impact on the lives of youth through service<br>given to the council.[1] The Silver Beaver is an award given to those who<br>implement the Scouting program and perform community service through hard work,<br>self-sacrifice, dedication, and many years of service. It is given to those who<br>do not seek it.<br><br>Award<br>The medal consists of a silver beaver pendant suspended from a blue and white<br>ribbon worn around the neck. Recipients may wear the corresponding square knot,<br>with a white strand over a blue strand, on the BSA uniform. There is also a<br>lapel pin authorized and available for civilian wear.<br><br>Using the United States Military as the model, silver awards are the highest<br>awards in the BSA.<br><br>History<br>The Silver Beaver was introduced in 1931 as a pin-on medal, but due to the heavy<br>weight of the medallion it was switched over to a neck ribbon in mid-1932. A<br>blue-white-blue ribbon bar was introduced in 1934 for informal uniform wear. In<br>1946, ribbon bars were replaced by the current knot insignia.<br><br>The Silver Beaver was initially awarded only to men. The Silver Fawn Award, an<br>equivalent for women, was awarded starting in 1971. It used the same knot<br>insignia, but on a blue background, as women were mostly involved in Cub<br>Scouting during this period. The Silver Fawn was discontinued and the Silver<br>Beaver began to be awarded to women in 1974. A total of 2,455 Silver Fawns were<br>awarded to outstanding women for support of Cub Scouting before the award was<br>discontinued in 1974.<br><br>As this is a council BSA award, it is conceivably possible for a person to<br>receive this award multiple times from different councils.
